Fishing with Dynamite is our favorite downtown restaurant.
Great ambiance, excellent service, and incredible food/drinks. Our go to items are the Peruvian scallops, the hamachi sashimi, Mexican white shrimp ceviche, the crab cake, squash rolls, steamed mussels, and the halibut. You really can't go wrong!
Be the first to ReplyFishing With Dynamite has been celebrated for serving only
Fishing With Dynamite has been celebrated for serving only the most pristine seafood with accolades that include "Best Oyster Bar" and is among Chef Lefevre's diverse family of restaurants. The restaurant is located off of Manhattan Avenue, a short distance away from the Manhattan Beach pier. Parking is difficult to come by as it always is in this area, so I recommend allocating time to find parking before your reservation. I started my meal with the Burn Bey-Bee Burn described as a "gold rush w/Elijah Craig bourbon, lemon, burnt honey" which was surprisingly refreshing for a bourbon based cocktail. Apps included Wild New Caledonian Prawns, Wild Spanish Octopus and a platter of assorted dozen Oysters. We also enjoyed Steamed Manila Clams, the Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass, and we finished off our meal with a Key Lime Pie. Every dish was a masterpiece and I savored every single bite. We sat outdoors and although it was breezy, we were able to enjoy our food and beverages with an ocean view. Hats off to the chef, kitchen staff and servers!

The background was so beautiful. It was a little chilly so we ordered the New England Clam Chowder was delish. Afterwards we had the Savage Harbor Blonde Oyster and the taste was so good I don't know to describe it.The Fish tacos were amazing but needs more sauce and fish. the fries were great except that the guacamole was salty but the fries were salty too, overall it was amazing just a cople of comments

I could eat the Peruvian scallops every day. All staff know the dishes and can explain the complexities.

First time here and I'm ready to go back! I've heard about this restaurant but for some reason never ate here until today. Started with the onolicious cocktail. As a native of Hawaii, I had to try it. It was a delicious mai tai with a li hing flavor and it was strong. I loved everything about it. Scallops on the half shell as an appetizer were enjoyed by everyone. My entree was the seared Maine diver scallops. I ordered it after seeing pictures on Yelp and the dish was delicious. I asked for my scallops to be well done, and they were perfectly prepared. The steamed Manila clams were a hit and came with a baguette for dipping up the buttery wine sauce. Someone ordered the halibut and it looked good. The portion seemed small though. Fish and chips were pretty good. Since there was no kids menu, they made this one instead of a fish sandwich. The restaurant is pretty small so reservations are recommended. Great service. Parking on the street or in the nearby metered lot.

Aleks was a great server. We really liked the food! It would be good to get appetizers out of the way before dinner is brought over. All And all a great place. It is very small. Make a reservation!

Come , you wont regret this . Our server was excellent, thank you elijah! You made this a ever better experience
Be the first to ReplyWe had a great experience at Fishing with Dynamite.
The restaurant is small but has a bustling atmosphere. The staff was very accommodating to our questions and went the extra mile with their service. But the food was the highlight--the oysters here reigned supreme with unique flavor profiles and creative garnishes. The flavors and varieties were enhanced by our server educating us on what we were tasting, bringing knowledge into our experience.

this place is EVERYTHING!! we randomly stumbled on it because there valentine's day menu looked better than the place we had originally made reservations at, but didn't have to wait an extra half hour for (since they were over booked) and got sat right at the bar! Our server was the bar tender and he was amazing!! Everything on the coursed menu was immaculate and we will definitely be coming back!

A true MB gem! Amazing staff, high quality food and always fresh - whether it be cooked vs raw bar, they even knock simple salads out of the park. Chef Alice is great too!
Be the first to ReplyHands down best shellfish spot in south bay.
Quality too. I wish they had better white wines but still decent options. Really tiny place but really good vibe and great food. Service usually spot on and fast.

Stopped by here the other week for a Saturday funday and had a great time! We sat at the bar just for drinks and dessert since we just had lunch elsewhere. The bartender (I think his name was David) was awesome! We had a few of the specialty drinks from the menu: Jamaican me crazy, skip wright, oh my tai. All were delicious! We even asked David to make a a drink of his own that had gin and egg white. I think it was a gin fizz he ended up making but it was also really good. This guy knows what he's doing. The pretzel bread pudding was dangerously good. A decent amount to share between two people. We devoured it even though we were full lol. The indoor seating area is pretty small (outdoor seemed like a good amount of seats but we prefer the indoor vibe) but we can't wait to come back to try some of the other food and get more drinks from David. The couple sitting next to us were also very friendly and chatted with us. Overall great atmosphere and fun vibe!

A friend recently said that it's not about the meal, it's about the person sitting across from you, and I couldn't agree more.. Buuuut a Michelins star doesn't hurt making it exponentially more phenomenal! "Fishing with Dynamite" is a spot on name because every dish in this little gem was an explosion of flavor in my mouth and blew me out of the water. With gratitude to the chef, we started with complimentary Peruvian Scallops that were pure perfection with tiny forks! This followed by the Parisian Tuna Tartare and I SWEAR to you there was a simultaneous "mmmmm" when biting into a morsel of this dish. Does that qualify as a jinx?! The Spanish Wild Octopus had great texture and the smallest potatoes I've ever seen. The Wild Black Sea Bass tender flaky and the apple, raisin, cashew chutney base was not to be missed! The Koshihikari Rice with shrimp, uni, blue crab has made me reconsider my perspective on uni, definitely the winner of the most delicious and unique dish of the night. Pair that with great service with solid recommendations and attentive service despite how completely packed the place was. We closed out the restaurant and the kind souls working there let us continue to enjoy our evening without complaint. Looking forward to checking out the other restaurants crafted by Chef David!

Outstanding seafood! Lobster, chowder, you name it, everything was great. Quite busy and service took a bit of time but it was worth the wait. Outside on the beach we even got to see someone setting up for a romantic beach proposal. So sweet. Just a great experience.

Been there now twice- once mid-week during lunchtime and once on a Saturday evening for dinner. Both times service was attentive and great! For lunch we sat outside, which was surprisingly nice and lush. For dinner we sat inside at the oyster bar. Food and presentation was great both times. Our drinks were really amazing when we were there during lunch, however on said Saturday night for dinner, both our drinks tasted severely watered down and tasted nothing like they did during our lunch outing just a couple months prior. It was a busy night and towards the end of the evening, so I'm hoping this was just a one-off mishap as otherwise we liked this little place..

Pro-tip: get the SAFFRON AIOLI for your shrimp, crab cake or whatever, it's a GAMECHANGER.Found my new favorite seafood spot and it's a cute little restaurant right by the beach! Make reservations because this place has very little seating and is popular (will be sad when they lose their outdoor seating). Super friendly and fast service, excellent seafood options on the menu, and the dessert is just *chef's kiss* I tried all their oysters and my favorite was the Princess Delight (only a little briney), followed by the Sea Cup (medium briney) and Silver Fox (medium briney). The Peruvian scallops were deliciously tangy with a citrus bite. The crab cake was chock full of crab and so yummy with the dill sauce (and I don't even like dill!). The hamachi sashimi was so incredible with the jalapeรฑo and guacamole adding to the fresh taste. The uni rice risotto like dish was excellent flavor with the egg yolk. The star for me was the Chocolate Pretzel Bread pudding. That caramel sauce with the mascarpone ice cream was AWESOME. And if you like key lime pie even a little bit, this one is the best I've had in a restaurant.

Can you say pretentious!!!Nice neighborhood/area (Manhattan Ave). Decent to mediocre food but very small portions. Terrible seating. Nothing to justify super high prices except pretension. No one in our group (who are used to splurging once in a while for a good meal) was impressed. We've spent more than $250 per couple and would've been happy to do it, but were all sadly disappointed at this place.

Best meal of my life, fantastic meal and service, they have a personal diver to get the fish fresh
Be the first to ReplyThe food, amazing.
The service, incredible. The waiter broke down the menu, gave recommendations, and the recommendations didn't fail us. I'm not a huge drinker but what my friends got, they seemed to enjoy. The koshihikari rice and lobster roll was beyond what I could have hoped for. If I could eat it again right now, I would. The restaurant is at a cute corner in Manhattan beach with shops surrounding it. Cute atmosphere inside.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant is one of my true loves.
Amazing staff, wine list and food menu. They never fail to excite my food passion and give them 10 out of 10. I've dined at the best of the best and this restaurant is such an understatement.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and extremely lovely staff.
I don't necessarily think I was blown away by anything but the ingredients were fresh and well prepared. Overall a very enjoyable lil brunch. Music inside was a smidge too loud, but the staff kindly turned it down for us because our baby was sitting right under a speaker.

By no means am I a seafood expert, so I can't go in depth with the flavors and I don't have much to compare to. What I CAN speak on is the service. Excellent service! My girlfriend and I were simply discussing the fact that I had never had a keylime pie, and they gave us a keylime pie on the house. This is the type of service that separates high-quality institutions with average ones--the willingness to go above and beyond to satisfy your customers. As for the food, it was great. Scallops were delicious, although maybe there was a little too much salt on some of them. I enjoyed tasting the different types of oysters as well. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyFirst, I would remove the Michelin reference in the window.
It invites a level of expectation. The space is quaint and the ambiance is attractive. Waitstaff is friendly and attentive. The menu is simple and seafood centric. Assorted Cold water oysters, upscale bar bites and quality ingredients.Grilled rockfish tacos were ruined with the addition of what I can only assume was pre-cut, old red cabbage. Sliced cabbage, when it sits, can obtain an unpleasant bitterness. No bueno on the fish tacosThe DIY (Devein it yourself) shrimp at $24 for a half a pound killed this place for me. This was not what I expect from any restaurant with even a whisper of Michelin standards. El siete mares meets Michelin prices. yelp.com/biz_photos/fishโฆThe fish sandwich, which we did not order, but they gave to us anyway, was a nod to the Filet o'fish, right down to the melted cheese. It was a derivation and a good one, but fried haddock with a side french fries isn't exactly raising the bar.The ceviche was delicious and I have zero complaints. I would order it again, if I was so inclined to return. I'm not. There are way too many fish in the sea.The way you do one thing . . .

..WOW. The service and the food quality are incredible. My only gripe would be the price. For a big lunch for two with no cocktails it was around $180. I would put this place in "special occasion" territory just because of the cost, so save up and it'll be worth it. Those oysters, the halibut, so fresh.
