I have yet to see the Fotografiska museum NYC but had the privilege to visit beautiful Stockholm. Beautiful building with a good collection of photography exhibits. Very powerful well curated work. A beautiful building is the setting for a visually stunning experience in modern and historic photography. The top floor is really cool with brick, skylights and exposed beams. Elevator was really slow, but you could also take the stairs. You can grab a drink from the cafe at the entrance and enjoy throughout your visit or at the lounge in the first floor, they have a DJ playing in the evening. Absolutely gorgeous restaurant and bar attached with reservations recommend. The food was superb and the service was exceptional.

This is a wonderful museum and I loved their current exhibit on photojournalism! Just beware that it's currently very hard to get to, as of November 2022. Please don't follow Google maps directions -- it will send you on a long, unnecessary walk. Also no busses seem to go here.Instead look out for 1. the Slussen Metro Station stairs that let you down to the cliff to where the museum is or 2. take an Uber, but be advised that you can't pick it up near the busses. I learned these things the hard way!Even so, the museum is definitely worth a visit.

Gayle and I took a Viking Cruise earlier this year, and during our stay in Stockholm, Fotografiska Stockholm was just a short walk down the pier from the ship. Judging by the construction going on in the neighborhood, the nearby cliff, and the tight roads, it appears that this place might be hard to reach from the land side. The attractive Fotografiska complex includes the museum, indoor/outdoor dining opportunities, and an extensive gift shop, all wrapped up in a cool historical brick building. I found the museum to be very interesting, with photos nicely displayed, and visually stunning in spots. My only regret is that we rushed our visit a bit, and really didn't spend the time in this museum to do it full justice. We also spent some time in the gift shop, which complemented the museum offerings well. Unfortunately, the restaurant experience will need to wait until next time.
Be the first to ReplyA must see in Stockholm specially if you are in photography.
Their exhibits changes every now and then. When we went there it was 1 floor dedicated to the most striking photos of the last century, which was very interesting and captivating. You will be surprised at how much you can see and know about just a photo. When you go upstairs, there are 2 more exhibits and both are also breath taking. You will need a minimum 1 hour to go around this museum. It's also very near the central of Stockholm.

Due to construction, do not use Yelp's directions and try to take the stairs which are blocked. For the most efficient way, plan your route to take Folkungagatan and then turn left on 222, pass the cruise ships, and the museum is on your right. On the day we visited, there were two exhibits: British Terry O'Neill who is famous for celebrities of the 60's, 70's, and 80s and the many photographs of Elton John, Frank Sinatra, and David Bowie. If these names do not seem familiar to you, you may not be old enough to appreciate the exhibit. The other exhibit is by Swedish Hans Gedda whose unique portraits included Nelson Mandella and Andy Warhol. Both photographers had anecdotes for their pieces which made looking at the photographs interesting. After enjoying the exhibits, we went upstairs for lunch where there was a limited menu with well done food and an amazing view. I highly recommend this restaurant. For my entree, I had bouillabaisse which had lots of mussels and saffron and a side of rouille. To be different, my partner ordered the chicken in yogurt sauce which included roasted cherry tomatoes, olives, and fennel. Both were yum. If you trek to the basement, there is a hydroponic garden growing different kinds of greens like lettuce and bok choy which the restaurant hopes will fully sustain its restaurant in the future. If you're younger than 50 and you do not have an interest in photography, you may want to consider a different museum. To get a few bucks off your admission fee, book online before going.
Be the first to ReplyFotografiska, located right alongside the river, is a bit
Fotografiska, located right alongside the river, is a bit of a trek to get to, as it's down at the bottom of a cliff. However, they have regular ferries that allow for one to get there from other islands, though not so easily if you're already on that one. The museum itself was very lovely; they had a couple of interesting exhibits on display that day, such as an Andy Warhol portrait exhibit, a space for NFT's as art, and one featuring works from Terry O'Neil, as well as others. On the top floor, the museum has a cafe that overlooks the canal; we had a "red" pizza, which consisted of a cheese pizza with a tomato sauce and cabbage that the museum grows as topping. Usually I don't feel that salad pizzas go well with tomato sauce, but I was pleasantly surprised by how refreshing the cabbage was, and the pizza was lighter on tomato sauce than a fully sauced pie.TLDR; the exhibits were interesting, and rotate, it seems, quarterly, and the food and drink was good. The location itself was scenic, but a bit hard to travel to if not taking the ferry.

3.5 stars for food, 1.5 star for "museum," rounding down.I usually use Yelp for restaurants, so let's start there. The Veranda's food is perfectly adequate and pretty tasty. Fun that it's all a wood-fired oven, though the zucchini could have been much more caramelized. Couldn't taste the smokiness in the yogurt. The cabbage on the pizza was nice and crunchy. But the pizza itself wasn't stand-out exceptional. The museum is a disgrace to the notion of museums. Some of the exhibits do have interesting photographs, albeit without really enough context. But the museum is just like "look, aren't these pictures interesting?", rather than providing any info about the technical details of photography. They don't even tell you how they print them, let alone what sorts of film are in the pictorial displays. There's no permanent collection, just whatever exhibits happen to be "hot" at the moment.
Be the first to ReplyThis is the second time I come here.
The first time, there were really amazing exhibitions that left me totally shaken. This time around, I didn't love any of them (such cliches) but the way the works are displayed was just truly fantastic and left me deeply inspired. I think it's a wonderful skill to make of something otherwise unspectacular something truly remarkable. Give your curator a raise.THE RESTAURANT THOUGH WAS SUPER FANTASTIC AND I'M STILL DREAMING ABOUT IT.
Be the first to ReplyAwesomely great photography museum.
They do a fantastic job of choosing interesting artists and then showcasing the work in excellent ways. Normally, photography isn't my first choice, but when I'm in Stockholm it becomes my first choice. Don't miss this beautiful museum.
Be the first to ReplyThis is an absolute must! The museum is amazing.
The restaurant is an experience and not for the faint of heart. We loved the freshness and newness of the flavors. An incredible adventurous chef, for sure! Truest excellent!
Be the first to ReplyI really enjoyed this museum.
There were some great exhibits with amazing photos and then some that were not my thing but still interesting to see and experience. I do wish we had made time to dine in the cafe. It's a beautiful space with great views and some good looking food and drink. Maybe next time. There is a coat rack and lockers (all full when we were there) downstairs. Then multiple floors of exhibits. Descriptions in Swedish and English (thank you). And exhibit in one area had VR if you downloaded and app. Quite cool. The museum was kind of crowded but didn't feel it most of the time (good flow). I like that they are open quite late on Friday and Saturday nights.
Be the first to ReplyGreat museum.
Whether you're a photography enthusiast or not, there's a lot of cool stuff that everyone can enjoy. Spent a few hours here. The exhibits change frequently from my understanding and on my visit, they had a horses theme. Artists from all over the world had photos of random pictures of horses. It's along the river bank so you can go for a stroll after visiting the museum.
Be the first to ReplyIf I could rate this place 10 stars I would.
Hands down one of the best showcases of photography I have seen and I was thankful to experience it during my trip to Stockholm. Plus their gift shop was filled with great items I brought home with me. And the cafe has really great views of the water with the city in the background. While I was there they were showcasing the work of Jesper Waldersten and I immediately fell in love with his work. There was also a showing of Scarlett Hooft Graafland's work as I loved this also because she works with analog/film photography. Also, bonus points for being open so late compared to average American museums.
Be the first to ReplyThe museum is probably three stars but the cafe is
The museum is probably three stars but the cafe is extremely cute with great views and bumps this up to four stars, imo. Admission is 165 SEK for adults and 135 SEK for students. They are cash-free so credit card only. The museum when we went had three exhibits only: Jesper Waldersten (very Stranger Things; whole first floor), Vincent Peters (portraits; half of second floor), Scarlett Hooft Graafland (staged art; half of second floor). The fourth was still "in construction". The cafe is on the third floor and has incredible views of Stockholm. The restaurant is also pretty famous but we didn't try it.
Be the first to ReplyThis was one of my favourite things to do in Stockholm.
I've always been interested in photography and this was definitely a must visit if you're into photography in any way.The hours are really long here. They open pretty early in the day and close really late, like 1 or 2 am! So you don't have to rush to go during the day because it's usually busy and you can go at night, we went at like 6 or 7 pm!It's a small place but I think it's enough, they have 4 collections here and it took us a couple hours to go through all of it! And each one was unique and special in their own way. Three of them were general collections, while there was one that was purely about Stockholm and how it's changed from the early 20th century to the modern age. I posted a some of my favourite pictures here! It's two floors with the third floor being a cafe with a beautiful view of the water and the city. They also have a beautiful gift store near the entrance with a ton of photography books, gifts, etc.
Be the first to ReplyThe view was really what made this great.
Even on a drizzly day, there was a warm ambience and stunning view of the water. We got a couple of sandwiches that were good but a bit salty.

Really nice and interesting museum, had a great and informative guide. We were on a school trip so we were about a group of 20 people and we had our excursion at 16 on a thursday and the museum was quite empty at that time.
Be the first to ReplyA cool and quick set of exhibits, the museum won't take you
A cool and quick set of exhibits, the museum won't take you more than 1.5hrs to see to see to completion. It's worth visiting if you like photography and they rotate the exhibits frequently. Right now it's right before the Swedish elections and they had a great set of photos from each political party offering a unique way to understand the political parties priorities (photos were submitted by the parties themselves).Aside from that there were a few other interesting exhibits and one that was opening one day later which I would have liked to see had I realized it was opening. It's probably worth checking ahead to ensure you see any temporary exhibits you want. There's a restaurant and a cafe on the top floor with beautiful views of old Stockholm and the waterway. We sat up there and had a cava and champagne before heading out to a dinner reservation. One of the fascinating things about this museum is that it's open really late (till 1am) and appears to offer a drink + ticket deal after 17:30 or 18:30, so be on the lookout for that!
