Interesting Historic Space, Excellent Cocktails/Mocktails, Food So-So
A group of three went for dinner - the location is unusual - down an alleyway - and the building is quite old and interesting. We truly enjoyed the cocktails and the offering of creative non-alcoholic cocktails as well. The food was just ok. However, it is worth a visit just to see the place so maybe just go for a drink? We didn't try the desserts.....

I struggled with three or four stars with this spot, but based on other reviews, I feel justified my service and experience rates three stars. The staff is nice enough, but probably overworked. The brunch menu was out when I came, which had the typical brunch fare of egg dishes, bacon, etc. I had the burger, which was cooked medium to medium rare (I asked for medium, and it was definitely ok and not too much). But it comes with sautéed onions, which they put on the bottom, which made the bun fall apart. Fries were actually light, airy, and thick cut. They were quite good. I had a couple cocktails, which were pretty good. If I had just gone here to sit at the bar, I probably would have gone 4-5 stars. But the mood in this place is just so apathetic and flat. The decor is pretty cool and instagrammable. I also settled on three stars because I wouldn’t come back here again. Service is so-so, menu uninspired, and cocktails and decor are good, but I can get that anywhere in NYC.

Visited this place a few years back. Clearly now resting on previous laurels, food was expensive, service mediocre and all in all not what it used to be.
Be the first to ReplyNot Typical...Which Is Half The Fun!
I discovered Freeman's through recommendations on tripadvisor. Having found TripAdvisor suggestions good in the past, a friend and I tried it. We found our way to the Lower East Side found our way down the street found our way down the graffiti covered Alleyway and into this wonderful little restaurant. The food was delicious and plentiful, the drinks were good the wine was good. Overall it was an excellent choice. Thanks Tripp advisor for another good suggestion.

LOVED IT I got the black angus plate which if I remember correctly was $48 and I completely loved it. I stayed at the untitled so this restaurant apart from being great was also a few steps away from my hotel. Highly recommend
Be the first to ReplyWorth your time to find
In an old stable/carraige house, it's in an unusual location that takes a little doing to find, but work your effort. They also set aside a portion of tables each evening for walk-ins, so if you can't score a reservation, try that or a seat at the bar. The steamed mussels were *extraordinary* and set the bar for all the other dishes. I'm going to rate that dish as the best I've ever had; chorizo in the broth was exquisite. The non-alcoholic spritzer was delightful. The only weak dish we had was a tomato and strawberry salad -- the strawberries just weren't up to the vinaigrette. Dining companion rated his steak the best he's had in the last two years. A bit noisy in the bar if crowded.

Delicious food and great service in a really cool space. We got 3 apps and 1 entree to share and it was perfect, the serving sizes are generous. Our waiter was a gem and really looked after us.
Be the first to ReplyGood Food, Small Portions
If you aren’t a big eater, this is the place for you. We started with the Devils on Horseback, which are bacon wrapped dates. They were surprisingly good. The Chopped Spinach Salad was colorful and good. Three of us then shared the Bone-In Tomahawk Ribeye for three. Sadly, there was a lot more cauliflower on the plate than steak. While it was very tasty, we were so hungry when we finished that we actually stopped for pizza on the way home from dinner. For dessert we had the Bananas Foster and a Chocolate Brownie. While both were okay, nether one was worth writing home about. The two best things about the restaurant are the cool location (in Freeman’s Alley) and the talented bartender. The Cranberry Crush was nice and refreshing, and the Ocean Front View was good as well. Maybe if we had had more of the excellent drinks, we would have forgotten how small dinner actually was.
Be the first to ReplyBanzarbar: Eryn & Lauren top notch
I had read about this place. It EXCEEDS what you've read. Attentive staff (Eryn, Lauren) and tasty cocktails. FUN ambience. LOVED it!!
Be the first to ReplyBartender almost made me leave
Went here with a friend on a Saturday night - early for 6 o'clock reservation - went to the bar - ordered bloody mary and was dismissively barked at that "we don't do bloody mary's (you know who you are)". was going to order a single malt but decided the bartender was too rude to deal with - so sat outside and waited - dinner started the same way with the waitress - BUT - she saw we weren't having her attitude so she mellowed and we proceeded to enjoy really good food - was told new owners so maybe the staff is on the war path? great decoration, location and ;overall vibe -staff needs attitude adjusting.....
Be the first to ReplyAwesome hidden gem in the Lower East Side
Located down Freeman's Alley on Rivington Street between Bowery and Chrystie St. We stumbled onto it as we were walking by and I noticed tables and chairs far down the painted alleyway. It was a Sunday and we sat down for lunch (they had outdoor seating as well as indoor). We had the Pisco Alley cocktail , pancakes (an inch thick!) and the English breakfast: sausage, bacon, roasted potatoes, mushrooms, beans and scrambled eggs). Delicious! Super friendly and helpful staff made the experience one we have to come back for more of! Loved, loved, loved it!
Be the first to ReplyQuirky little restaurant in the Bowery
Quirky restaurants in the Bowery. Kind of an Addams Family vibe. Obviously catering to the young upwardly mobile clientele. The staff were less than interested but the food was excellent.
Be the first to ReplyWarm and cozy spot with tasty brunch menu
This restaurant used to be a hidden, kind of a secret spot that wasn’t really known to many people. The words have gotten out since then, and it is now a super popular spot.
We didn’t have a reservation, so we decided to get there early. We didn’t have any issue getting a table with just a handful of people at that time. The inside was very cozy. Feeling of an old tavern or a log cabin, filled with animals and antlers on the walls.
They had brunch menu and lunch menu, and you can order from both menu during brunch. We ordered Five Cheese Macaroni and Skillet Eggs. They both came in a small iron skillet. It was smaller than expected, but I always say quality over quantity. They were packed with flavor, comforting, and made really well.
We had a nice, relaxing, tasty brunch here. The service was polite and nice, we were well taken care of. The menu is a bit on pricey side, but the quality is super high. I have been wanting to try Freemans for quite a long time, I am glad we finally got to dine here! I would like to go back for more, and try some of their cocktails as well in a near future!
Wonderful Experience
The food is hearty and diverse. Both the happytizers and entrees were delicious! A varied wine selection with outstanding choices enhanced the meal. The eclectic housing only added to the experience.
Be the first to ReplyGreat comfort food
Great, somewhat off the beaten trail restaurant with delicious comfort food in a quirky space. Lots of interesting taxidermy and rustic furniture to see while waiting for your food.
Great Mac and cheese and burgers
Excellent Find Off the Beaten Path
If it wasn’t 10am, I would have been creeped out by the walk down the alley. Lol. It ended up being a cool backdrop for photos. The restaurant itself was a really unique atmosphere, but most importantly, the food was incredible! It was pricey, but so worth it! The wait staff was also very friendly and totally on their game. I would highly recommend this place for a unique meal experience.
