We were able to visit this restaurant twice this weekend.
It was the only restaurant we knew would be open for Easter. So we invited my daughter to join us and we made an afternoon of it. We were greeted and seated promptly. The restaurant was in an old renovated building--which added to its charm. The walls echoed a very French theme with dozens of French vintage movie posters. We started with a glass of Champagne and my daughter had a latte. Our entrees consisted of the croque madam which my husband ordered, scallop and seafood vol-au-vent with wine cream, cblt which my daughter had. Each one of us clean our plates. No boxes! Does that tell you anything? Now yesterday, we had light meals. I tried the quiche with Gruyere, leeks and ham, which was substantial. However, I was a bit disappointed when I tasted it. The ingredients floated to the top of the quiche and left a very gelatinous egg mixture on the bottom. The crust was very dark --almost burned looking. If that is the way a French quiche is executed--I think I will pass on it next time. All-in-all, I still love the place. It's a wonderful little luxury that isn't overly expensive and has close proximity to my other favorite place--Findlay Market!

I had been craving a Croque madame so I stopped in here with one of my buddies. I thought the service was slow and both of our orders were underwhelming.

Didn't ask if we needed more water, didn't ask if we needed anything, and didn't offer anything/ recommend anything. Couple next to me showed up 15 mins after me and received cold food and was told they had to make the food. Great food terrible service.

We had dinner at French Crust Cafe last evening and the four of us were very pleased with our delicious entrees. We had chicken cordon bleu wih a perfectly prepared sauce, shrimp and scallops and the mahi mahi and tumeric cauliflower puree special. Our dinners were all filled with flavor. Topped off with a creme brulee for dessert. The food choices are different than many other restaurants in the city, so its a refreshing change. We always look forward to going here for dinner as the restaurant atmoshpere is very European and the time spent there is like a quick vacation. Madison took very good care of us as did the rest of the staff. They all work together as a team and we did not wait for anything. Entrees arrived piping hot. Already looking forward to the next visit!

One of the best in Cincinnati. Try the desserts and they have a good wine selection.
Be the first to ReplyWe tried about one of everything.
I don't like to regret not getting something lol. The snails were very tasty, flavorful. I did not enjoy chomping on a piece of shell though :) The macaroni is not like macaroni we are used to. Not the right noodles and it has mushrooms and something else in it. It was alright, big bowl of noodles. French onion soup was a bit sweeter than I like but very tasty. Burger was nothing special. Just a normal burger. The chicken was good but all the salt was sprinkled on top.
Be the first to ReplyAnother perfect lunch at French Crust.
Charcuterie, lettuce, and tomato sandwich with a cup of chicken soup. $14. France in OTR. That's value.

Lovely cafe in the heart of OTR and across the street from Findlay Market. I have been here a few times and have always ordered the same thing because it HAD always been fantastic. While the establishment looked mostly the same and the wait staff was still friendly since my last visit two years ago, I noticed a decline in the quality of my food. The bowl of "Creamy Chicken Soup" was completely off the usual mark. It was very watery as if someone had added more chicken broth or water to make the pot go further. I thought that perhaps this was a new recipe and so disappointedly continued to eat the soup. The flavor was still good, it just lacked the consistency of any type of "creamy" soup as the menu name states. After paying the bill I asked the waitresses if there was a new recipe or chef since the soup seemed to be so off point from years ago. She said that she also noticed that it was watery and actually thought it was a different soup that day, but in fact, it was just a watery day. If she had noticed that the soup seemed off from the normal consistency, then she should have warned us of the change or suggested the French Onion soup instead. The Quiche seemed to be a bit overcooked. While the egg portion seemed fine, the crust was very brown indicating a pinch too long in the oven. Portion size was very big however. I just avoided the crust altogether. This was a special pre-Christmas brunch with a family member, so it was bit disappointing to have the food quality diminished from previous visits,
Be the first to ReplyOne of my favorite food emporiums in Cincinnati.
Located at Findlay Market. I was sorry to hear of Chef Jean-Robert's passing. What a major impact he had on the local food scene. Nice bistro menu, excellent environment , and ably served by Madisyn. I come here every Cincinnati visit. You should too.

We just went to French Crust for the first time during a Sunday brunch to celebrate a birthday and we had a great time. We got the flat croissant with chicken, apple, and Swiss and a side soup of pork belly split pea soup, duo of salmon croissant with egg mimosa, avocado, tomatoes and a side of fruit, and a chocolate mousse. The food was delicate, purposeful, and wonderful, the closest to authentic French cuisine we've found in Cincinnati. The location and ambiance were very nice, and our server Javier was above and beyond. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for high quality French dining in the city.

The atmosphere and ambience is overshadowed by how long it takes to get your lunch order. Literally waiting for 50min for quiche and soup order. Would recommend bringing a book next time.
Be the first to ReplyWhat an excellent meal.
The food was incredible as was the ambience. We felt like we were on the Left Bank in Paris. We will definitely be back for dinner and a bottle of wine.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place to grab brunch while at the market.
Delicious food, friendly staff and a buzzing atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyWe enjoyed our spontaneous little lunch here.
We sat at the bar. We each had a cocktail. I'm not sure how they did it but their ham and gruyere quiche is one of the most amazing things I've ever eaten. It's simple. It's scrumptious. It's a small place. It is really crowded. It's an eclectic and chic feel. The wait staff isn't overly friendly. But it was fine. I'm glad we went. And I think I stop in again
Be the first to ReplyGET THE PANCAKE.
It's giant and the best I've ever had. The egg croissant sandwich was also excellent. Big portions for a reasonable price. Will be back again soon!

If you want outstanding French breakfast food in Cincinnati you have to go to French Crust Cafe and Bistro. I couldn't make a reservation so we went there anyway just to try with our son and his boyfriend. No seating was available so the hostess asked if we'd like to sit in the cafe - of Course! It's all the same food and staff. We started with the Bethany, Audrey, an espresso and a latte. Such a great beginning!! Our server was wonderful!!We enjoyed the buttermilk pancakes, omelette, bacon on the side, scrambled egg sandwich, side salads, side fruits, etc. And we had to get croissants to go!! Outstanding!

Excited about bringing family since I loved it when I went with friends a few months ago. Seated promptly but waited a while before meeting our server and getting water. The wait was a bit frustrating but we didn't let that ruin a birthday brunch. In all, it was the general surlyish tone of the server that just ruined the meal for me - have never had that happen before. With many different restaurants in town, I won't be rushing back. Must say the salad I got with the quiche was really good. Could be this guy was having a terrible day. Just really disappointed.

I had been wanting to visit French Crust for breakfast for a while now. It was fine. I had a reservation for two and all of the groups of two were sat at tables in a line against a wall very close to each other. Just felt strange to have a reservation only to feel like you're sitting on top of the people in the tables on each side. I ordered the chicken, apple, mushroom, and Swiss flat croissant sandwich. It had endive and balsamic on it. The croissant was great and super buttery. The flavors were excellent, EXCEPT it needed a lot more salt. It came in sweet, rich, and with a lot of bite, but just didn't have enough salt to balance out entirely. The French press coffee was not my favorite. I would recommend just getting a drip coffee. People around us had some pretty yummy looking mimosas, too. They were out of a good amount of menu items, which was disappointing. We got there half an hour after they opened and they were out of at least 4-5 menu items, and it was brought up that one item on the menu literally had never been in stock. Odd. Probably would not go back for breakfast or lunch based on my experience, but I have a feeling their pastries and desserts could be a better route based on how good the croissants are.

Delicious brunch--splurge and get a pastry and French press coffee. Ask about the specials--they are usually delicious.
Be the first to ReplyCute, comfortable venue.
Not noisy. Wonderful menu with usually daily specials. Really fresh tasty food. Huge salads. Superb bread...crunchy outside, soft inside. Full bar. Good wine and beer selection. Great service...casual, attentive, knowledgeable. On street parking. Closes pretty early. Try the escargot and any fish dish.
Be the first to ReplyWent on a rainy Veterans Day and the place was fairly full.
Service was great. Very cute place. Unfortunately most of our egg dishes were somewhat flavorless. Quiche of the day was huge, though. Too bad they were out of Lorraine quiche. I'd go there again and hope they've added more spices, onion, whatever.

I've been here a few times- it's my favorite John Robert restaurant in town. The food is decadent and delicious. Great spot for brunch especially because it's a French restaurant and they know their mimosas! The service wasn't up to par this time... I suppose this is the era we are living in because it seems to be everywhere right now.
