3 blocks away from the Courthouse, expected it to be crowded but it wasn't. Friendly service. I got the twice baked pistachio croissant - it was delicious. I wish it was lighter / more soft and airy on the inside. But the flavor made up for the texture. I would go back.
Be the first to ReplyNice creative use of space.
Mediocre coffee, the cannelle was rock hard and borderline burnt. What a disappointment.
Be the first to ReplyPistachio croissant was delicious.
It was flaky and they did not skimp on the pistachios. The lemon curd croustillant was also very flaky and good but it was a bit too sour for me. Overall, I'm not sure if I would go back again (it was a bit pricey but that seems to be the new normal these days) but it was definitely worth a try. Plus it's in a unique location so that was pretty cool!

This lovely bakery is tucked away in a building with fantastic detailing. I went on a Saturday mid-morning, and the line was relatively long; however, it moved fast and efficiently. Sadly they had already run out of some items, including the kouign-amann which I wanted to try. That's okay - I got a feuilleté with latte instead which was really good. I'll be back to try the kouign-amann someday!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing breakfast options while you are in NYC.
On the same block as the Marriott Time Square. We went their every day for breakfast and everything was amazing. Service was fast. Seating is limited, ambiance is nice. Had the cinnamon roll, almond croissant, avocado toast and a coffee or latte each day. When we are back in NYC we will be stopping in for breakfast again.

Unfortunately I was never able to try Arcade Bakery, but Frenchette which took over the space in 2020 has been absolutely delightful. It's a small space hidden inside an office building on Church St but there is enough seating and always a steady stream of patrons. I absolutely love their viennoiserie-- everything is flaky, buttery sheer perfection. I always come for their pain au chocolat ($6.50) and egg savories ($9) but they have a variety of breads and pizzettes available as well. Their pain au chocolat is made with manjari crème which makes the chocolate oddly acidic and fruity. It's interesting and keeps the pastry from being overly heavy as it is PERFUMED with quality French butter. Get a few things to-go and enjoy for the rest of the week (or day, no judgement here)!

It's a little bit of a strange and hidden location for a bakery at first as it's inside of a corporate building. It's more of a grab and go place with some seating. I found their croissant to be light and flaky and their canalé to be crusty on the outside but soft inside (as should be expected) - both were some of the best I had in the US. Definitely would return to try out their other offerings!

A hidden gem in Tribeca and hands down one of the top bakeries in NYC!We tried sicilian pistachio ($7.5) and Kouign-Amann (caramelized croissant, $5.5). Pistachio croissant was the best one I have ever had in the city. It was so buttery and flaky. It is true that they are slightly more expensive than other bakeries, but I highly recommend trying their pistachio croissant. you won't regret

2 savory egg pastries and a pistachio croissant (and I pictured was a latte). Everything was rather good, but honestly it was very expensive for it. Like, I wasn't mind blown. I don't think I'd come again

Loved the Pain au Chocolat, washed down with some green tea. The bakery is take-away only on the ground floor of a commercial building, but there are plenty of benches and pull-out tables built into the walls next to it (it sounds weird, but you'll see what I mean when you go). The one thing I couldn't find anywhere was a trash can, so I took my trash to a can outside.

Weird location but delicious, authentic French breads and pastries. Got the Jambon Beurre and a couple pastries. The coffee was great too.
Be the first to ReplyOne of my favorite bakery in NYC - yep I said it.
Their pistachio croissant is probably one of the BEST things I ate in my life and that's why I rate this place so high. Don't knock on the other pastries either! They're all high quality and taste amazing. Definitely coming back to try more goodies. The only gripe for me about this is the location - kind of far for me and not really a spot to sit, drink coffee and chill. That said, get there early because they go quick!

I wanted to check this place out because of its unique location. It's on Church St and inside an office building, and is more of a pastry stand with cute and generous seating along the hallway. The building is very old NY and even though it was nice and empty when I visited, I'd say this feels more like a grab and go spot to me. I tried their chocolate croissant which had lovely flaky layers and a more bitter chocolate which I enjoyed. The dough was on the more dense side though, and also slightly sour so maybe it was a sourdough. The feuillete I got had a delicious poached pear on custard and was glazed with honey. Definitely a bit more decadent but super yummy and unique. The pastry was again dense but also flaked with something I couldn't identify. What I thought was unique about this spot is how much variety they have on their menu, across sweet and savory goods. It also looked like they make pizza. I can't wait to try more of their menu!

I think Frenchette currently has the best baguette in the city especially since Maison Keyser hasn't reopened during the pandemic. This place is easy to miss since it's hidden on the first floor of an office building. I always make an effort to stop by if I'm in the area. Other notable standouts are their viennoiserie. Their twice baked pistachio croissant shouldn't be missed.

High quality and tasty bakery with yummy variety of viennoiseries. We arrived at around 12:45 on a Sunday so no more pistachio croissant. I had the plain croissant, egg savory with greens, pear feuilleté (flavored with ginger, tumeric and honey) for breakfast (kinda felt guilty to have so much but it's much higher quality and less sweet than most bakery). The croissant is one of the best I've had in NYC; it has rich butter and flakey pastry tastes without tasting like sugar which happens to many bakeries that just make sweet croissant. My husband had the ham baguette sandwich and he liked the texture of the baguette. We bought the winter harvest loaf to have with our soup for dinner and it's great! The oat milk latte was nice too since they use oatly. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is a hidden gem on Church St.
We stumbled upon it onThanksgiving day and it was a great surprise! The server lady was a breath of fresh air with her attention and passion for the products. I had those little cheese balls(they come in 3s). It's light and very cheese. And also the canele which is a sweet pastry also very light and flavorful. Their sitting arrangements is far from ideal, but there are a couple of "tables" on the sides. Just some advice, Family decided to go with the egg mortadela. It is delicious, but it has an egg inside, so when you bite it be ready for running yolk.
Be the first to ReplyUs stupid Americans are not worthy of you, Frenchette.
You make our French lunch time dreams come true. I love the seating. I love the set up. I love the escape of coming here. I love the intentionality and spécificity of your offerings. I love coming here to sit and eat and enjoy quiet me Time. Please continue to thrive and not compromise. Because we can all taste the difference in your GORGEOUS offerings. I have loved everything I've ever had here because it's such good quality ingredients and thoughtful methods. It's a REAL french bakery; not trashy crap that Americans make us all settle on. Thank God for you.
Be the first to ReplyBeen waiting to try Frenchette since it's opening.
I'm happy that a stellar bakery was able to replace Arcade Bakery. I can still get my tasty croissants and coffee to start my day. One of the notable differences is different offering of baked goods which I must come back to try more of, and an espresso machine. This place can be hard to miss and possibly intimidating if you don't know what you're looking for. You're transported to what seems like a corridor where the service and seating is along the walls. Definitely not your usual bakery interior.

In these days of Covid, the absence of office workers is deafening, as I walked to this bakery, located in Tribeca, mere steps away from the Foley Square courthouses and City Government buildings. What is truly gratifying is that Frenchette Bakery continues to exist. Located in the lobby of an office building next to Worth Street, Frenchette marches on in the tradition of Arch Bakery that preceded it. The baked goods are not only of a very high quality, but the offerings are very innovative. If you are looking for something different, this is the right place. I had the savory egg and market green, (only a vague idea of what I was getting). It was a tiny egg with a deep rich orange yolk. It was salty, but not crumbly as a a hard boiled chicken egg would be. It had almost a creamy velvety texture. I could hardly spot much egg white. It sat on a bed of what I would guess is kale leaves in a flake pastry. Nice. What took me off guard was the Canelle. It looked like chocolate, but did not taste like it. It was hard and brittle, cracking when I bit into it. It had a custardy, like a bread pudding, filling inside. Interesting. What is good to know, they now have weekend hours too.

Absolutely do not pass up a chance to try one (or, better yet, many) of the pastries available here...even if it takes you 30 minutes to figure out that it's located inside a random building downtown. The savory pastries with eggs are especially exceptional. I don't know how they get the eggs to stay so perfect and fresh but it truly is a feat of accomplishment that deserves much applause. Go go go!!
Be the first to ReplyIt's all about the ambiance.
Probably the coolest alleyway of a coffeeshop I've stumbled upon in the city. They have super appealing, but pricey, pastries. There seems to be specials each day. The coffee is strong and pricey. But the vibe is everything, so I came back to study. To my dismay there are no outlets :(. So, this is more of a book or chat place, not a study spot if you have an ole battery-dependent Mac like me. Still a nice stop, tho! Will be back.
