My wife and I were staying at the Corinthia Hotel for the final two nights of our Viking Eastern European Danube River cruise. We were both pretty tired by that point, and were interested in finding some local-type cuisine nearby and at reasonable cost. I noted that Frickska 2.0 seemed like a viable choice (two half blocks away), but was a bit concerned since there had not been any reviews posted here since 2020! I noted that their web page is under construction, and it leads to their Facebook page which lists the daily menus. I used Messenger at 4:30 pm to ask if we could make reservations, got an immediate approval, and we ended up eating dinners here on two consecutive nights -- to great satisfaction. The restaurant opens at 6:30. There is a heavy door and steep set of stairs leading down to the dining area. The photograph shown on the TA page accurately depicts this, very cozy. We were warmly greeted and seated. The wine list contains a host of options reflecting their access to a number of local vineyards. My wife opted for a rose which she greatly enjoyed. The menu options are spelled out in detail on a sign on the call. My wife loves foie gras, and the appetizer version here was large and delicious. On the second night she tried the shrimp crisps, which also were fantastic. I had their Fricska Gulya's (by the way, everything is described in both English and Hungarian), which was great. Delicious chewy fresh baked bread slices were provided. For mains, I had the forest mushroom risotto which contained a great variety of mushrooms and was great. My wife had the monkfish which was, in her view, excellent. The staff here is young, engaging, and fortunately for those of us who cannot pronounce any given word in Hungarian other than goulash, speak excellent English. We did not try the desserts, too full by then! We so enjoyed the meal, we made a reservation for the second night at the time we departed the restaurant on the first night. Ironically, it was only after we had eaten here that we noted that the restaurant was included on a list of restaurants recommended by Viking. The recommendation is well deserved. I was curious as to the restaurant's name...evidently in Hungarian it translates into something like a "trick". And...the "2.0" reflects the fact that the "1.0" version had closed with COVID, and this probably explains why so much time had elapsed since the last posted review. Clearly, we would wholeheartedly recommend dining here. The service is on the slow side, but we did not mind, it's nice not to be rushed through a meal. Reservations might be a good idea, the restaurant was 100% full on our first night, but only 75% on the second night.
