Funke Beverly Hills Reviews from The Last Year
Very good food and service.
But, very different from Madeo and Drago brothers restaurants. Nice crowd , and overall pretty good restaurant. I recommend it.
Five stars.
All dishes were absolutely excellent. All pastas and pizza were fantastic. Ambiance is cool, something different, but not too different. Upstairs is different than downstairs. Service is absolutely top notch. Staff is great and super attentive. Love that sparkling water is on the house. Such an easy way to make guests happy. One suggestion to the host desk: Don't tell me my party needs to be complete before we can get seated when two out of three are there, and we say the third person will be there in two minutes. And at the same time: You seat three out of a party of four and their fourth person doesn't show up until half an hour later. Makes no sense. Either way, a small thing, but would've made it even better. Overall, definitely going back, love the place!
My husband and I didn't eat Italian before our experience
My husband and I didn't eat Italian before our experience at Funke, but since we visited for his birthday in May, we haven't been able to stop thinking about this place. Everything we ate was AMAZING, but the top 3 things we think you should order are: gnocchi (light, fluffy and delicious, the prime rib cap (perfectly cooked), and the shrimp appetizer with the plain focaccia were the some of the best foods we've ever had.
I was honestly extremely underwhelmed.
. While the service and ambiance are great, the food left something to be desired. Since this is a sister restaurant to Mother Wolf (same chef, and whose food I really enjoyed), I expected everything to be on par.. but to be frank, the only thing I personally actually enjoyed would be the stuffed banana blossoms. I would recommend the stuffed banana blossoms and skip the focaccia bread. While the focaccia was fluffy, it was too salty for my own personal tastes. We then ordered 4 pastas, with one being off-menu and the price shocked us at the end when it wasn't properly disclosed that the pappardelle didn't already come with truffle. -Pappardelle w/ porcini mushrooms and black truffle: pasta seemed overcooked as it was really soft and had no bite. Extremely mild flavor, and was not worth the whopping $105+ it came out to be. -Tagliatelle bolognese: same soft overcooked pasta as the pappardelle, just sliced thinner. Sauce was more flavorful and one of the better pastas of the night. -Rigatoni pomodoro: nice al dente texture and another best of the night. -Cacio e pepe: great pasta texture, most al dente of the night, but just not a fan of the flavor profile. Very one dimensional. We ordered the recommended panna cotta and peach & almond tarte for dessert.. While they weren't bad, I personally wouldn't order them again. Both were on the tart end and didn't seem to have enough base/filling. At almost $500 for food I didn't absolutely love, I wouldn't come back again.
Service was amazing.
Everyone is so friendly and attentive. They really went above and beyond to make me feel special on my birthday. These really are Funke's greatest hits. Haven't had his fluffy focaccia bread in awhile but it lives up to the hype from my memory. It melts in your mouth! The pasta is unbelievable. We parked at the BH lot on Beverly and then walked to save some money on the valet. Can't wait to go back!
Excellent dining experience with great food.
The ambiance definitely has Beverly Hills vibes, from the first floor entrance bar and pasta station, to the second floor secluded dining area and bar, to the roof top. The food was amazing, from the handmade pasta to the pizzas, and crafted cocktails. Definitely recommend this spot for date night or special occasions. The service was spectacular and the staff really made you feel like you were welcomed there.

Ridiculous that you get charged a 4% Wellness charge for the staff on you're bill! That is the owners sole responsibility to provide wellness benefits/support upon the employees not the guests job.... Ridiculous, honestly just taking advantage of inflation.

Funke has such a great rooftop bar/lounge area that you can get a cocktail while you wait for a table! This is a great spot but make sure you have a reservation because they are almost always booked out. It is such a fun vibe, epitome of Beverly Hills glam. The food is good, but not many gf options available.

Chef Funke has done it again! Bravo! Dining at Funke in Beverly Hills is an extraordinary culinary experience that exceeds all expectations. From the moment you step in, the chic yet cozy ambiance and the welcoming staff set the tone for a memorable evening. The meal began with their fresh and light focaccia. This dish was a revelation - perfectly baked with a crisp exterior and a soft, airy interior. It was lightly seasoned, allowing the natural flavors of the high-quality ingredients to shine through. A simple yet utterly satisfying start to the meal. Next up were the zucchini blossoms, which were nothing short of perfection. These delicate flowers were stuffed with a creamy, flavorful filling and fried to golden perfection. Each bite was a delightful mix of crispness and smooth, rich filling, making it an irresistible appetizer. The Pizza Diavola was a standout. The thin, crispy crust was topped with a generous layer of spicy salami, mozzarella. The balance of heat and savory flavors was spot on, making it a must-try for pizza lovers. The slight kick enhanced the overall taste without overwhelming it. But the highlight of the meal was undoubtedly their fresh pasta, made daily. We opted for the lemon and asparagus combination, and it was simply divine. The pasta itself was perfectly al dente. The lemon added a refreshing zest that paired beautifully with the earthy asparagus. It was clear that this pasta was crafted with care and expertise. The fresh ingredients, impeccable preparation, and thoughtful presentation make it a top dining destination. Whether you're a local or just visiting Beverly Hills, Funke is an absolute must-visit. Highly recommend!

I visited this place for the first time around 6pm with my friends and we opted for the rooftop seating. The ambiance was stunning, especially during sunset, making it an ideal spot for post-work drinks and yummy meals. We started with the Gamberi in salsa verde, which were exceptional - a perfect 10/10. Pairing them with their homemade focaccia was a brilliant choice; it was crispy, flavorful, and wonderfully light. Moving on to the squash blossoms, they were fried impeccably, though they didn't quite match my personal taste. However, my friend absolutely adored them. The Burrata E pesche was a delightful and refreshing dish, particularly recommended for peach enthusiasts. The margarita pizza was a standout with its thin, crispy crust bursting with flavor. And the Arincini were undeniably one of my favorites from the evening. Our only regret was not ordering any pasta; a mistake we won't repeat next time. Securing a rooftop seat is on a first-come, first-served basis, so arriving early is advisable. They open at 5pm, giving you a good chance if you're there promptly. The second floor dining area was stunning, with its seductive and softly lit ambiance. I'm already planning my return visit to sample their pasta and desserts, and perhaps experience the different ambiance of the second floor.
Had a great birthday dinner here with my girl.
We were taken care of so well and the food was super good. They even gave me a mini chocolate cake at the end to celebrate. Reservations are hard for a reason! Pizza and pasta are a must (obviously)

I came here for my birthday celebration and managed to get a reservation a week beforehand. It was a weekday around 5:30pm. My party ordered a carciofi alla giudea, busiate, and rigatoni all'amatriciana. The carciofi alla giudea was the best artichokes I've ever had. There was no bitterness and I loved the crispy fried ends. The busiate was very rich and cheesy. I was unable to eat most of it because the dish already incorporated cheese and I am unable to eat cheese. The rigatoni all'amatriciana was incredible. It is one of the best pastas I've eaten. I loved the thick large rigatoni pastas with nice chewiness. The guanciale gave saltiness and flavor to the dish. Overall, this place has now become my favorite pasta restaurant. I was kind of sad after finding out the clam pasta was removed off the menu, but the rigatoni made me forget about it. Service was incredible as our server took time to go over the menu and adjust our order.

Delicious food and ambiance, very Beverly Hills back in the day. Modern Italian deliciousness, great drinks and service. The best part was trying the pizzas and pastas and specials. The SAZON is amazing.

Love the food here, the energy, the service, everything! My favorite of all the Evan Funke restaurants for sure. Must get the fried artichokes!
Five stars all the way around.
Definitely would book a rsvp in advance but if its not possible, waiting for a bar seat at the mezzanine over drinks on the rooftop was such a vibe. Everyone who works there is so nice and the conversation with the bar staff as well as other guests was incredible. The food put my boyfriend and I into a trance. In the best way. Left feeling happy, full, and ready for our next visit. I could not recommend this place more.
The hot new place in LA, it was hard to get a reservation
The hot new place in LA, it was hard to get a reservation at Funke, but in the end, well worth it, even though things were a bit uneven along the way. The pastas are great, the pizzas are very very good, but unfortuntely the drinks are a bit sad. That said, it's still a wonderful place, the ambiance is beautiful, and don't forget to visit the rooftop bar, you'll be glad you did, but only to look around; the drinks themselves are disappointing at best, more on that in a moment. So the Oricheetti was my favorite, although any of the pastas here are simply fantastic, served al dente, bursting with flavor and most have a nice kick to them. They are pricey, but this is the best place to get pasta in this town, or almost any other town, save possibly Rome. The Daviola pizza is the star here, but honestly, the mushroom pizza was pretty darned good, and I'm not much of a mushroom fan. The one downer here are the cocktails, and I have to tell you my Sicilia, while tasty, had about 1/4 the liquid that it should have had. Partly the ice cubes, while big and impressive, take up far too much space in the glass, and the cocktail itself was barely up to the halfway mark in what was already a too-small glass. Clearly whoever was mixing these did not have the end user in mind, it was literally a couple of sips and we're done, and that's just not what I expected, not just for a whopping $25 drink but also after the waiter declared this to be the equivalent of the perfect margarita. Also note they only carry one brand of beer, which, for a place like this is completely inadequate. The wines are mediocre, and they are served in these enormous goblets that may have come from the set of a Harry Potter movie. The service was a little strange, it seemed as if we had multiple servers, and it took a bit longer than normal to place and receive our orders. But all this can be aside, because if you come for the food you will not be disappointed, it is heavenly, as good an Italian meal you'll find on this side of the pond, and well worth the price.
This restaurant is huge, multiple floors and rooftop dining.
This is where the review gets bad! We were a party of 4 and were seated a table for 2 Our waiter Carmine absolutely ruined our evening and dinner. The first thing he did was try to sell us on a glass of cabernet that came from a very large bottle...the table agreed that it was horrible, so we order drinks. I was looking for a glass of French wine, but they only service Italian wines..ok So I explained what I was looking for, and he brought the complete opposite. I asked for the sommelier, and explained to Eric that I was looking for something comparable to a French burgundy , he brought 2 glasses of very fruity absolutely awful wine..and he's a sommelier??? Immediately after we got our drinks, he TOLD us we had to put in our order..we told him that we were going to take some time to visit with our out of town guests. He came back multiple times about 5 minutes apart. We finally broke down and ordered. We were served our salad, they took away our plates and immediately people were queuing up with food plates and they were still trying to replace used silverware. Of course we couldn't get all the food on the table because....it was a table for 2 You could tell that Carmine was hoping to turn our table ASAP Food was good..We've been to Chef Evan Funke's other restaurants, so I'm amazed that he would have such people working for him. Would I go back....Hell NO!!!
Nothing but goodness.
The ricotta-stuffed zucchini blossoms and Neapolitan-style pizzas are just unforgettable. It's a real a temple to the chef, but he was actually working in the kitchen when we went. be prepared to pay up but know it will be worth it.
We came here the other night for my best friends birthday
We came here the other night for my best friends birthday and I am thoroughly impressed. We were originally a party of 3 but they were able to accommodate us as a table of 2. One of the two young ladies in the front was truly so kind and the other one wanted to give us a hard time about the third person not being there. Eventually, one of the other team members, Ford took us upstairs to be seated. Ford was absolutely amazing, so kind and courteous. The food was very unique but also phenomenal. We loved how the servers worked so collaboratively, what an amazing team. Our main server was Nick A. who might be one of the best servers I have ever had. He had such a great attitude and gave us such a comprehensive overview of the menu. Nick was training Giovanni who was also very sweet. Our other server was Rene who was so sweet and kind! One of the most outstanding ones was Jessica as we observed how attentive she was to all the tables. Funke also had a really cool rooftop bar, which had a lovely ambience along with dj. Overall, I would definitely come back and would highly recommend to come with friends!
My feelings about my experience here are decidedly mixed.
I dined here with a friend on a Tuesday night and we had a 8:30 PM reservation. We showed up a bit early, so we were told by the hostess to head upstairs for a drink and to come back down around our reservation time because our table wasn't ready yet. This wasn't a problem and we were happy to wait at the bar while our table was prepared. The rooftop bar was crowded, but this was in line with other reviews that mention how packed the restaurant can be, even on weeknights. When I got to the bar, the bartender just stared at me, so safe to say it felt a bit awkward saying "uhhh can I place an order". He then asked, "well are you 21?" I said yes and but said that he was welcome to check. When he saw that I was of age, he tried to turn it in to a "you look young" joke. I understand that people would like those of us who appear younger than our stated age to take this as a compliment, but I have yet to encounter another 30 year old woman who enjoys being taken for a delinquent teenager. My advice to the bartenders would be either ask to see ID or don't, but refrain from commenting on a person's appearance. When we went back downstairs to check in with the hostess, we were told that the party occupying our table had paid, but they were slow to rise. It took more than half an hour after our reservation time for us to be seated. They did offer us a complementary glass of champagne for our wait and checked in with us regularly. The staff is professional, and I appreciated that, but the long wait certainly dampened the experience. We were seated at the table directly in front of the kitchen, which we were told was the "best seat in the house." We did get to see Evan Funke working that night, so that was a pleasant surprise. Our server arrived quickly to tell us about the menu, offer to translate, provide recommendations, and inform us of the items that were unavailable. He did well to give us space when we needed it, and arrived promptly when we were ready to order. We ordered the dressed lettuce, short rib meatballs, Orecchiette, and the Busiate pasta. All were pleasant, and tasted exactly how I would expect those dishes to taste. The hand made pastas were beautiful and cooked to perfect texture. I have to say, I expected to be "wowed" in flavor and/or presentation, and I was not. Sometimes "as expected" is just fine from a restaurant, but it's always delightful to leave a new place surprised by the chef's interpretation of a menu and excited for what you will discover on the next visit. I left feeling like the whole experience was "fine". The space is beautiful and I could certainly see myself returning in the future, but probably after a visit to Mozza or Chi Spacca first.
