White Picket Fence, Perfect HOA's & Best Poodle Haircut of the Year !Every time I enter the gold lined doors of Gelson's I'm in for a surreal experience. Yes, I am fantasizing about all of these things but don't we all when we are envisioning what a perfect grocery store would look like?I never really thought about grocery stores until I moved to the Coachella Valley area. They were just a routine part of life. But now that every type of grocery store known to man plus farmer's markets exist around every corner in this area... I can now do massive research on this topic. Time on my hands..? Maybe ;-It's remarkable, to me, that a customer, little ol' me, can enter a grocery store and get swept up into the beauty of the way the aisles are stocked, the way the vegetables are stacked, the varieties of soups, herbs, condiments, pastas, yogurts, milks...Just standing in the aisle, staring at the shelves... what can seem like hours... trying to absorb all the variations, ingredients, exotics and non-exotics It is truly a learning experience and for someone who read the ingredients on EVERY package of food before buying it can be quite the process to vet what is good or not good for you before placing in the cart ..The OTHER customers that are also taking their time reading labels and just moving a nice slow pace will actually look UP... from reading the labels to acknowledge that you are there and maybe even smile... which is a rare activity and one that is thoroughly enjoyed between two people.I don't remember what kind of music is playing at Gelson's when I am there but for me it is classical music, symphony, opera (when I find something extremely special to buy) and then beautiful symphony again that plays in my mind while I'm shopping.Even the employees at Gelson's are SO nice and they will really try to help you and they will SMILE at you which is also a rarity in this world. When I leave Gelson's I always have to pinch myself to make sure that this shopping experience I just had wasn't just a dream.

Lovely store. Top quality products. Great deli. Loved the wine bar. Thank you Jack for your friendly service. Only complaint was the guy (A...n) who packed our groceries in bags that we brought. He had attitude & did a bad packing job with everything just thrown in. No thought to things like bread getting crushed or deli salad on its side leaking. Will definitely go back.

Made three trips from 15 minutes away after no response on phone call.Never any Wolfgang Pick pizza available. Missing ingredients? Yesterday no regular dough available? Why advertise the products or even list the products on your website and have signage at the counter or on your menu? This has been going on for months.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced and still not very good service.
They charge double for branded products you can get anywhere. It's a shame that they take advantage of people.

I ordered a gift basket through the Gelsons corporate website that somehow didn't arrive. The corporate office wasn't much help but after contacting the store manager, John, he personally went and delivered this in a matter of a couple of hours. He went above and beyond to make this right. Excellent service!

What the heck happened?? Have been buying fresh Diestel Thanksgiving Turkeys from Gelson for a few years now, but decided on Gelson's own label this year mainly due to the smallest size of Diestel vs Gelson's. Picked up the turkey on the Wed morning, only to get home and find ice inside the cavity and on the underside. Had to double check their ad/website to make sure that the Gelson branded turkeys I ordered were not sold as frozen or previously frozen. Not much I could do at that point. Used cold water to get the innards to thaw/loosen, left it submerged to fully thaw. The worst of it was the turkey, once cooked, was tough (ie: old). What a waste of time and money....never again Gelson's. PS. I wrote to Gelson's in hopes of getting some explanation before I posted this review, to give them a chance to change my mind about warning others. No response whatsoever. Won't be shopping there again.
Be the first to ReplyGelson's has the best produce and baked goods.
Their meat selection is very good quality.

Gouged! Prices are absurd and the cashier agreed with me when I brought it up at checkout. $7.99 for a 4 pack of fever tree ginger beer? Really? Jensens has it for $4.99. And $5 single avocados!!!! Holy moly NO guacamole for me. Not at that price. I'll shop somewhere else before paying these prices again. What a joke. Stop gouging your customers, do better.
Be the first to Replythis is a wonderful market.
all gelson's are great but this one is particularly superior. thanks to misty, richard, john, for great help when i need something special. all product highest quality, great selection. very very grateful the desert has such a quality market with good prices and such terrific service.
Be the first to ReplyThis is our favorite market in the valley.
The extensive items will amaze you. The entire staff is friendly and very helpful. While the prices are a bit higher than the other markets, if you shop on Tuesday and are a member of the shopping club ( free ) it's about the same. The hot food take out selections are the best.

The customer service in the deli department was sub par didn't acknowledged that I was next customer while there was only one person in the counter and one customer beside myself . The third customer came on the other side of the counter . The deli counter women told me that I had to get a ticket to be be served next. One other comment your deli prices are outrageously overpriced.

The bakery is great, the produce is really good and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Also, it is extremely pleasant and very spacious -- it's my fave supermarket in the desert (except possibly for Trader's)

Only sometimes a customer here, but wanted to leave a review as I was very impressed by Patrick and Karina, apparently both new hires at the cafe counter. Both are super friendly. Patrick's calling me and his other customers "friend" is really refreshing. Karina too was friendly and funny. Felt great to get such positive customer service.

I use to be strictly a Whole Foods shopper but the only WF in Palm Desert is awful. I have found greater variety and quality consistently at this Gelson's. And it is my experience that the staff at This Gelson's is always engaged in providing great service .

Worth the drive from anywhere in the Palm Springs Coachella Valley area! They have everything, high quality produce and meat and if they don't have it, they can get it! So lucky to have a GELSON'S in my area!!
Be the first to ReplyDecember 2021 Update: Gelson's Rancho Mirage has one
December 2021 Update: Gelson's Rancho Mirage has one thing that none of the other Gelson's stores can claim: its very own bakery on site - with bakery delights rivaling any of the indulgences of the "big city." (I have heard people bemoan the lack of a "good bakery" in the desert - and when I moved here this summer from Studio City/the L.A. area, I felt the same way - until I discovered the hidden gem inside of Gelson's.). At first, I discovered the cookies - baked on site and divine - my favorite: pecan chocolate chip. But there are many varieties - take your pick. Then there are the individual slices/portions of some of the best desserts I have found anywhere: chocolate cake, New York cheesecake (it's the real deal), chocolate lava cake, carrot cake (not usually a fan - but this one is good), on and on - too many to list here. And only recently, I discovered the hidden gem: peach pudding muffins - they are huge, and they are unique to Gelson's, so good it's hard to describe! This is a full bakery. I hadn't quite understood that when I began to sample first the cookies, then the cake slices. Apparently when the store manager joined Gelson's in around 2005 (moving from another store where she had the bakery), she brought the entire bakery staff with her and set up shop at Gelson's.And of course, it's not just individual portions of all these delights. There are cakes and pies and just about anything you might want. The bakery items mostly are located by the Wolfgang Puck kitchen to the right of the store as you walk through the doors.(I am almost afraid to share this hidden gem - don't want all my favorite items to sell out before I can grab them. And trust me: I am picky with desserts - I do not want to waste my calories: this stuff is exceptional!)

Every time we stay in PS we shop at Gelson's for all our grocery needs. We also enjoy Trader Joe's, but Gelson's is our main stay and super fresh.

I ran out of sea salt on Thanksgiving Day and ended up in Gelson's for the first time. What a beautiful store! So clean and well organized. I ended up buying a bunch of stuff I didn't know I needed (always a sign of a good grocer in my mind!). Quality produce, meats and baked goods. Nice clientele and friendly staff - what more could you ask for? Perhaps my first time, but certainly not my last.
Be the first to ReplyAs someone who has been a customer of Gelsons for the past
As someone who has been a customer of Gelsons for the past 40 years-- Century City, Tarzana, Westlake Village and now Rancho Mirage, I am sorry to say that it is most definitely NOT the same Gelsons that I've known and loved and I will NOT be returning! I learned yesterday that they were bought out this year by Pan Pacific International Holdings, which explains yesterday's very disappointing shopping experience. I first encountered a very unpleasant stock person in the refrigerated section (their employees are usually top-notch in customer service) who told me that they've never carried the Don Hermann pickles I was looking for (guess I am crazy) and that she's worked there for two years and has never seen that brand! Maybe if she'd gotten her bad attitude in check and inquired with management to look up the brand, she would have learned that they DID carry them, but no longer do; unfortunately, like several other items they've discontinued. The most pathetic (practically non-existent) Hanukkah display I've ever seen! Being the first night, I was expecting to see the usual great selection to choose from. Nope. Only a couple small shelves at the end of an aisle with none of the traditional items. Brisket was dry and tasteless, as was the salmon. The latkes--$18 for six of them--tasted like they were defrosted from last year! Could barely swallow them. For the customer who walks in the store not knowing the former Gelsons, you will probably be impressed with their neat shelves and nice selection of produce, but for us former "Gelsonites" I'm sorry to say it will be the end of a long relationship. :-(
Be the first to ReplyWant to compliment the staff at Gelsons.
We ordered a take out thanksgiving dinner. Got a well prepared boxed meal . A 13 pound turkey which had to be warmed for 2 hours before serving . It was excellent. Mashed potatoes, gravy , green bean casserole, stuffing, cranberry sauce and some excellent dinner rolls made of phillo dough. All we had to buy extra was the pumpkin pie and whipped cream. May do this again next year . The staff was attentive, well mannered and prompt . Pick up was actually a pleasant experience at the store . Gelsons staff are the best in town .
Be the first to ReplyShame on Gelsons.
First and LAST time ever to order a pre cooked Turkey for Thanksgiving. There's a line that goes on forever to pickup food stuffs. They should close a register and add extra staff to temporarily assist customers. Service is essential to keep patrons returning. Bad business!!! Not thankful for Gelsons.YvonneI apologize for causing you and your staff stress. . My issue was with the CALABASAS Store. I as well as others were kept waiting over an hour in very windy weather. The store sent people out to offer cookies and water but instead should have had them assisting to distribute the Thanksgiving goods. The manager was informed of the situation by my sister in law from Anchorage but did nothing other than offer an excuse about having only one computer. At the very least he should have made an appearance and apology. I am older but there were others quite elderly. I was very disappointed.

Gelson's is my closest market and I've shopped there since they opened. They did a good job at the height of the pandemic, but their standards are extremely low now. Many employees, if not most, are NOT wearing masks or gloves. Clearly they've forgotten that covid is still here - and, in some places, getting a lot worse. I have 5 grandchildren who are too young for the vaccine. Gelson's doesn't seem to care enough about the community to keep us safe. When I mentioned it, they looked the other way. Management better start showing they care about their customers - and the staff that are wearing masks and being safe. I'm really repelled. I'm not going back.
