Enjoyable meal in a lovely setting
We shared a mushroom pizza, pasta, salad and fabulous eggplant appetizer amongst three people which gave us a nice variety of bites. The ambience was quite pleasant and the servers were friendly and attentive. The pizza crust was thin and delicious and everything was fresh. Would definitely try this place again.
Be the first to ReplyGemma is great, don’t confuse it with the adjacent hotel lobby
Several reviews are confusing this restaurant with the lobby and bar of the Bowery Hotel. The restaurant is separate from the hotel and is great. Was at the hotel for 2 days and nights and was at Gemma 4 time with groups of 4-6 over 2 days. Really friendly and attentive staff with really good food. Seems to be best in area. Large with cool decor and was never crowded. They were genuinely happy to have us there. And didn’t mind when we hung out for hours. The hotel lobby and bar is popular and can get crowded, I understand, but was not at all when we stayed there. I do understand that when crowded they do reserve most tables for hotel guests, but fair enough when paying $800+/night for a rooms as it IS the hotel lobby and bar. Highly recommend the Gemma and the Bowery Hotel.

Empty at noon on Sunday. Lovely setting. Professional service. Quite expensive. A few brunch dishes. $29 cheeseburger (fries were yucky). I liked my salad with beets and avocado. Frosty glass was nice.
Be the first to ReplyItalian fine dining on the Bowery
Gemma is an Italian fine dining restaurant located on the Bowery inside the Bowery Hotel. This hotel tends to be a favorite of high wattage celebrities. Paul McCartney had a birthday party here. The menu is traditional with a series of pasta , pizzas, and entrees. I had the burrata to start and a tagliolini pasta as an entree. Food was decent. Service was OK. Tip: If you sit outside, which we did not, you will see the cross section of New Yorkers strolling by from young "frat bros, to hipsters, to drunks, and to drug users. Quite a scene.
Be the first to ReplyQuiet Saturday brunch
A lovely restaurant we popped into during a Saturday stroll. Waited a little while to be seated but then ordered straight away. The waiter made me a wonderful sweet cocktail and both my daughter and I loved our meals. It was quiet that day but with a great chilled vibe. Reasonably priced but the wait staff weren’t really chatty or friendly.

I met a friend in the Bowery Hotel for a drink in the lobby lounge at 3pm. We were both dressed in business attire. The lobby lounge is very big and appeared to have 25-30 empty chairs. There was one waiter and as soon as we asked if we could sit down, he shared that if we don’t have a room we can’t sit down. We were meeting to discuss a corporate retreat at the hotel but based on this experience we can check Bowery hotel off the list.
Be the first to ReplyExquisite Italian food with various options for seafood lovers
Great experience for Italian food lovers! The servers are friendly, attentive, and not overbearing. The ambiance is very romantic. The food is spectacular. I had a bietole primi lunch salad and my partner had oysters. Both plates were delicious and fresh. The chefs are accommodating if you want to add or remove anything to your meal. For dessert, I had tiramisu and chocolate cake. The tiramisu comes in a big portion that is sharable between 2-4 people, in my opinion. I preferred the chocolate cake. It was to die for! Very moist, and succulent, and will satisfy your sweet tooth (maybe a little too much). It was not overbearingly sweet and the taste of dark chocolate was very well retained in the cake.
Be the first to ReplyPairs rustic Italian cuisine in an ambient setting
Located in the Bowery Hotel, this warm setting was a great reprieve from winter in NYC. My tasty lunch was prepared just right. Portion was generous and I am grateful to have stumbled upon this restaurant. Wait staff was attentive and efficient.

We at there on several occasions and found the food to be good. Also, attended an Bridal Brunch and they did a good job with that as well.
Be the first to ReplyWatch your employees
I went today (07/15/22) at 6:30PM to have a drink with my husband to the bar, most of the staff was pretty attentive, the barman was super nice and two other waiters, we had zero proof cocktails and payed our bill, and on our way out, as I always tend to be courteous and mannered, I grabbed our empty glasses from the table and put them on the bar, to which an employee, not sure if a waiter or someone from the bar staff, I know who he was regardless because he was carrying a cart with two whit and baby blue boxes proceeded to say loudly in Spanish (my native language) “Le voy a decir que haga mi trabajo” (I’m going to tell him to do my work) - I was furious as I left and certainly will never come back to this bar with staff like this - Currently staying at a luxury hotel in South Central Park and I’m almost positive that would never happen here - Watch your staff.
Be the first to ReplyDon’t bother!!!
It is really horrible to meet friends for drinks at the Bowery hotel! The establishment is not interested in serving you or being hospitable! We were celebrating a milestone birthday and at every turn the maître d’ comes over with new rules, more rules!!!! For instance If you move a chair the Maître d’ comes over and moves it back. REALLY???? What are you guys trying to accomplish with that type of behavior??? Terrible experience-don’t bother go somewhere else, anywhere else!!!

Birthday celebration with wonderful friends last night at the Bowery Hotel. What wasn’t wonderful: the inhospitable & unwelcoming attitude. The maitre d, Mario was really special. Prison guard is more appropriate term for his behavior. Tip for the hotel: look up the definition of hospitality or perhaps tell people you have severe rules for anyone entering the premises. My review: never go back.
Be the first to ReplyPrivate Dinner Party - beautiful room, ambiance and service
I attended a private dinner party at Gemma. The ambiance was wonderful, the private dining room was gorgeous and the service was great. The food, unfortunately, was hit or miss. Some items were delicious, others just ok. The fish entre and the salad were excellent. The pasta was bland and the chocolate dessert was so rich that most couldn't eat much of it. Overall though, the experience was great and I would highly recommend for any private dinner parties.
Be the first to ReplyBad service and average food
I’ve walked by this place many times over the years and it always looked so cute. I was excited when a friend suggested it for lunch last week. That quickly changed.
We sat down and we’re ignored for the first 10 to 15 minutes, were we invisible?
When a waiter finally came near everyone in our section was vying for his attention trying to get a refill or pay their check. Once our waiter came to the table he barely said a word and just gestured at the menu to indicate he was ready to take our order.
This level of service continued throughout the meal. The strangest thing was the manager was present and just sitting at the bar. Seems like his team could have used some serious help, or at least guidance.
The food was average, not worth the high prices.
Go down the block to Bar Primi instead.
This is fast food Italian
This is fast food Italian with the quality to match. The food was over-salted to the extreme - I couldn’t eat it. The waiter did ask how the food was, I replied too salty, but it turns out this was simply a passing question not a call to action - he did nothing. The desert was a pre-prepared “thing”. With a choice of wonderful Italian restaurants in the city don’t choose Gemma.
Be the first to ReplyCome inside and get lost.
The best part of this dining experience was the decor along with the team approach to service. The staff moved about in a team approach to making sure the diners felt like they were VIPs in an authentic italian restaurant. Visually the place and food are stunning and the wine list is perfect. The menu could use a few more items but overall a good dining experience in the Village for date night.
