gertrude’s Brooklyn Reviews from The Last Year
Really really good food and really good old fashions.
Got the chopped salad, latkes, and burger all of which were exceptional and would 100% go back for these! Chopped salad might've even been my favorite. Will definitely go back for the food! Inside is super nice and dimly lit. A bit jam packed as per usual with any NY restaurant. Only knock is that I made a reservation for the main dining room and the hostess said there's no more room and said she could place us at the bar and she'd give us a couple drinks as compensation. Unfortunately, we didn't get any free drinks...

When I went to Gertrude's, the food was impeccable the service was amazing and the restaurant was great. I would 100% recommend going here. The Restaurant was also very clean and looks very nice.
Gertrude's is the defiantly quirky Jewish ethos that's so
Gertrude's is the defiantly quirky Jewish ethos that's so central to NYC - the zany Upper West Side bubbe this goyishe boy never had - made into a restaurant. A brunch double date after a Botanic Garden romp brought us here. The winsome, personable service compensated for a long wait and seating in their dark outdoor street shed. Any Jewish restaurant had better nail its latkes, and Gertrude's absolutely did, substituting classy roasted apples for the traditional, more pedestrian apple sauce. The "simple child", a sort of beets-and-avocados number on a bialy, was appropriately off-beat and brunchy all at once. The Borscht Bloody Mary cocktail was earthy and sour, kind of strange, but isn't that what a Bloody Mary should be? Maybe it's more weird than good, but definitely fun. Come to think of it, the meal's predominant taste was sour: sour bialy toppings complemented by sour pickles and sour cream and a sour cocktail. Nothing wrong with that, but there are more flavors to explore in the Yiddish vocabulary. Couldn't we add the sweet option? Minus one star for the indulgent "gentle parenting" of the Park Slope clientele you'll have to put up with, along with the small menu. But even so, Gertrude's is a great comfy time. The bartender put parsley in a margarita and my husband still ordered a second one. So quirky, but so lovable.

Another check off my bucket list, and this one was a great one!! Here's some in-dining notes I took: Dirty Gertie (pickle martini): light for a martini, refreshing, not overly-dill Burger- the challah bun is light, fluffy but also crunchy, cooked medium-rare, the combination of fresh and pickled items on this burger perfectly represents what one would want from a Jewish influenced burger Latkes- so good and different from other latkes I've had before. These remind me of hashbrown patty's. As you eat them they combust to reveal deliciously crispy but soft strings of potato. Well seasoned and a better side than fried IMO Beets and horseradish sauce- the beets were a tad more raw than what I prefer. Added a bit more crunch than what I was looking for. Very tart and sour, more like a pickle salad and feels like it would be a good addition to a bowl or salad as opposed to a side on its own Loved the intimate, cozy minimalistic neighborhood vibe. Service was great and friendly.
One of the best brunches I've had in a long time! This spot
One of the best brunches I've had in a long time! This spot is absolutely adorable inside and we will be sitting inside next time we visit! We sat in the heated patio which was plenty warm and spacious! The Big Nosh had a little bit of everything you could want in a savory brunch! 2 eggs, latkes, a fresh bialy, and don't even get me started about the pastrami lox!!!! My boyfriend got the Babka French Toast and it was sugar overload but AMAZING! We got the best of both worlds! Next time I want to try the pickle plate! Such an iconic NYC menu with , as they say all the best "Jew-ish" eats!
I came here for brunch on a Saturday with a friend.
The space inside is very tight, which normally is whatever but it had been raining all day, so it made things a little uncomfortable. I ordered the Best Bialy, but had them put it on an everything bagel. I also ordered the House Salad. My friend had the burger. The food was fantastic. The bagel is served open faced and it's a huge portion. The vinaigrette on the salad was super tasty; it made the dish taste very bright and fresh. I had some of my friend's fries, which were also good. They are the thin and crispy type, which I love. I also had a glass of the Muscadet, which was good and my friend had a glass of the orange wine. Total bill was well under $100, which I thought was very reasonable for two meals that included wine. I will be back!

Omg Gertrude's--you have a place in my latke loving heart
Omg Gertrude's--you have a place in my latke loving heart let me tell you! It's a really adorable place with super cute decor and very cozy atmosphere. Absolutely perfect with a cute date night or a fun brunch with the girls! My only recommendation? Get there EARLY or get a reservation because this place fills up very fast and there's not a LOT of seating. That said once you get there, make sure you order the Latkes--they are absolutely delish and I was savoring every bite! I especially liked the fresh flavor of the roe and the break in the strong flavors with the cream. This was a textural delight. I also loved the bacon egg and cheese with the beef salami--the beef salami is an extra (and I now know NECESSARY) charge. All the food was awesome! I did have to split everything with my husband though because the portions are really generous, which is great because things here are not exactly cheap. The service was also wonderful and the staff was very nice, attentive, and generally well balanced in the number of times they came to check in. Overall I really enjoyed brunch here! I can't wait to come back and try it for dinner another time too!

Came for the latkes and was dazzled by the cake! A cozy and bustling neighborhood restaurant for a Friday night in prospect heights! Staff was super kind. Got the half chicken, latkes, and their duck spatzle and it was perfect for two people to share. Those pickles that come with their chicken are real tart, but in a good way. Loved the latkes, should have ordered more. Instagrammable and perfect amount of crunch. The seven layer chocolate cake floored me, though. I'm not normally a cake person but it was perfectly creamy and the right amount of dense. First bite tasted like a rich butter cookie converted into cake form. That whipped cream really hit as well. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a cozy, lively date spot. Would definitely make a reservation as they were pretty busy. Patio is heated and covered! Will have to come back for brunch.
This Place Takes The Cake.
Gertrude's is a Brooklyn (Prospect Heights ) neighborhood Jewish bistro. The decor is minimalist with flowery wallpaper and tightly knit tables. Jewish touches dot the menu with selections like Pickle Brined Roast Chicken (with fries or latkes) or the Grand Gertrude: a tower of seafood consisting of Oysters, Sable, Trout Row and Hot Smoked Salmon Pate. I went for the Matzo Ball soup, the Gertrude Burger ( Reuben style) and a Sedar Plate Margarita to wash everything deliciously down. The piece de resistance; however, was the black and white 7 layer cake.....this was the bomb.....I ate the whole thing....I'd go back just for dessert. This place takes the cake.
Amazing addition to the Neighborhood!
Wow!! Our table of 4 had a great dinning experience at Gertrude’s! Small restaurant but atmosphere inside was buzzing on a Thursday! Service from Walker was fantastic and the food even better! Every dish was delicious and carefully constructed. Wine list and cocktails were also excellent! Seasonal vegetables and Latkes were to die for! Everyone loved their entrees as well! Save room for dessert!!

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
