Ghorowa restaurant Pinelands Reviews from The Last Year
Enzo's Masterpieces: Authentic Italian Delights at Magica Roma
Magica Roma is exactly what the name suggests: authentic, delicious Italian food. We simply can't get enough of this gem. Enzo’s special dishes are the best; I never look at the menu because each time, he masters a new dish that makes my taste buds dance with delight.
Overpriced and mediocre
lunched with friends at Magica Roma last Thursday. MR has a great reputation which quite frankly is ill-deserved. I ordered calamari The portion was small, unexceptional in taste, and served with chips. At R235.00 for what amounted to little more than a starter portion, although the chips made it more filling, was certainly not value. My wife ordered the Veal Marsala. Two thin slices of veal were dry and overcooked. A small serving of overcooked tasteless spinach was brought the table as a seasonal vegetable. we feel we wasted money on indifferent and overpriced food. My wife called the next day but there has been no response from a clearly arrogant management. Never again.
Declining value for money
We visited Magica Roma a few days ago and, I'm sorry to say, were disappointed. My wife ordered the baby calamari tubes as a main dish and when it arrived we thought it was a starter. The portion as a whole was very small. The rice that accompanied the calamari tasted like ordinary Tastic rice. A restaurant which has a fine dining classification (which MR doesn't have) could perhaps get away with charging a pricy R235 for this dish. I ordered the veal Marsala and the souce was nice but the veal was tough. We realize that the input costs for restaurants have been climbing steeply but is just sad to see how the value for money at MR has been declining over the years. It's perhaps better to stick to the cheaper dishes such as pizzas and pasta when visiting this restaurant.
Always a winner!
After having sampled several high end on trend Cape Town restaurants and finding ourselves underwhelmed, my friends and I decided to return to an old favourite and we were not disappointed. Delicious food selected by our genial host, served by friendly and knowledgable staff in a cosy, warm environment. There is a reason it is still going strong after so many years… we will definitely return again & again

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
