Excellent food!
Excellent restaurant. The lamb was melt in your mouth tender and very tasty. The house salad dressing is probably the best I've ever tasted- perfectly balanced, rich, complex, and yet not overpowering or overly vinegar tasting. The fish was cooked perfectly, and the cocktails were delightful. Service was perfect, and since our table had a view of the open kitchen, we got to enjoy watching the chef as well. We enjoyed our dinner very much!

If you happen to be in San Francisco looking for a great meal, this is the place! American style with a special professional touch. The help was friendly and attentive. The decor is modern with a soft touch.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food, great service!
We came here on a theatre night and the staff was very accommodating. Once seated, they asked if we had time restrictions. We started with beautiful cocktails at the bar and great conversation with the bar tender. The cocktails are thoughtful and garnishes beautiful, there were also many special syrups and infusions waiting to be mixed! For dinner we were treated to a nice table with a view of the open kitchen (my daughter is a culinary student). We ordered the pull apart rolls and chopped salad to share. The salad was super fresh and the vineagrette dressing was light but flavorful - a notable salad. For dinner we had the salmon, bacon wrapped chicken and manilla clams. All very thoughtfully prepared and presented. The chicken was special - a roll of white and dark meat, wrapped in bacon served with a roasted red pepper puree. Fresh produce was a part of each dish. If you are near the theatre district/Union Square, chevk out Gibson, you won't be disappointed!
Be the first to ReplyI Can't Recommend Gibson Highly Enough
My wife and I recently visited San Francisco and had the great pleasure of dining at Gibson. We were hosted by and guided through our meal by Adam, the establishment's beverage director. We started with a plate of beautifully fresh oysters...being an East Coaster, this was my first experience with West Coast oysters and they were outstanding. We also enjoyed the grilled sweet and spicy prawns, white sturgeon caviar with bomba rice, scallops with smoked trout roe, hot and cold salmon, and smoked duck that was amazing. I'm sure I'm forgetting something from the meal as the dishes just kept coming out of the kitchen beautifully presented. Throughout the meal, Adam chose the perfect craft cocktail or refreshing beverage to go with every course. By the way, we toured the kitchen prior to our meal, and I'm not sure I've ever seen a cleaner or more organized kitchen. We will be back to San Francisco, and we will certainly be back to Gibson.
Be the first to ReplyRoast Duck Dinner for Two
Seated quickly with last minute online reservations on a recent Friday evening. Everything is a la carte, unless the tasting menu is ordered. We chose a glass of merlot over the pinot to complement the heartiness of the duck. Duck liver mousse was light and airy, with halved cherries/jalapeno. Bread boule served with mousse was fresh but a bit over baked rendering a too chewy crust and not quite moist enough interior. Smoked half duck was very good, served with a delicious plum/cherry sauce. The sweet potato discs arrived warm and nestled in a cloth napkin, but were over done, a touch charred, too densely firm and unpleasant to chew. We did not finish them. The texture of the sweet potato discs needs aeration and some lightening to complement the duck. Excellent and attentive, professional service.

Cocktails and food chef's table experience. The manager called us prior to service to learn our food and drinks preferences, making each tasting menu unique to the guests.
Our dishes looked very different from the next table!
The experience was very enjoyable.
A notable dish is the "hot and cold salmon", with salmon tartare bathed in ochazuke broth made with salmon bone dashi and gyukuro green tea leaves.
Paired with a warm sake infused with the same gyukuro tea leaves.
We also really enjoyed the pea and legume salad.
There was also this extremely delicious michelada made with aged black garlic shoyo, sakura shoyu, tomato ponzu, whiskey barrel aged fish sauce and black pepper oil. I will go back to Gibson just for that drink.
Overall very strong performance! Would recommend.
Very good food, just quite expensive!
We came here the night before valentines at about 6:30, it was very busy but we were seated quickly and the service was quick and helpful! The food was delicious, we had the bread to start which was gorgeous, followed by the steak and a dessert. The food was brilliant and although the portions seemed small we left feeling very full! Definitely a must try if you’re a foodie who doesn’t mind spending a fair bit!
Be the first to ReplyFriendly and well appointed bar and restaurant in the heart of SF theatre district
We stopped in here between dinner and the theatre for a drink. We will be back for a dinner! The space is open and welcoming, within easy walking distances of many theatres.
The menu is eclectic with many tasty sounding options, and we were regretting not doing dinner and drinks.
However, we stepped in for a drink. The bar is superb, with easy, friendly attention. Well appointed and stocked, with some very interesting cocktails and a nice selection of wines. They make many of their "tasting points" - little dollops added to a cocktail to put a spin on a classic drink, or add an undertone. We had a tasting of a reduced tomato essence that was really special. Our bar man was very well informed about both the liquors they had available and the wines.
We'll be back!
Cool vibe - great drinks
Very cool bar near Union Square - effortlessly combine cement tiles with mid century modern light fixtures and baroque ceiling frescoes. Drink menu is classic with a twist, tasting menu is creative and appetizing. Refreshing and inspired place! I will be back !
