I don’t get the hype?
I know this is controversial in light of all the reviews and hype we heard before our visit… but we thought Golden Steer was just “ok”. Not terrible, but not special either. Our visit came with a price tag of nearly $1000 in total for 3 couples, and that just simply isn’t justified. We arrived on time for our reservation which I’d made 6 months in advance. We’re from England and I explained that this was a surprise trip for my husband’s 50th birthday and so I requested a booth if that was possible to make the experience extra special. We were greeted by chaotic scenes at the front desk where the staff seemed under pressure and very flustered. We were told that, sorry a booth wasn’t possible because someone had just sat down in it and wouldn’t be moved. Weird. Quite an unprofessional first impression. We were then told that our table was being prepared and we stood at the desk for about 10 minutes with no communication. Very disappointing start to our highly anticipated visit. We were eventually sat in a back (side?) room with 3 other tables already seated. The place had no buzz and we felt that we weren’t in the actual restaurant. There was a door beside us which waiters constantly used and cold air blew on to our table every time it was opened. It felt like we were in a walkway to somewhere else! The food was good. Nothing special. We ordered the Caesar salad, 2 couples had the longhorn and lobster tail (at $255!), a filet and prime rib with various sides. The waiter kindly brought out a birthday slice of cheesecake for my husband which was sweet. We had a couple of drinks each and the bill at the end came to almost $1000. There’s just no way it was worth that. It was such a shame we’d waited for so long and been so excited to experience an amazing evening when what we actually received was a mediocre experience and all wished we’d saved our money and gone elsewhere. I wonder if there’s a little bit of trading on reputation and past glory going on here?

I had the good fortune to attend a private event (only 10 of us) in one of their dining rooms on a Saturday night. The owner spoke to us about the history of the restaurant, and validated what we had guessed, that this was a special place! Some of the staff have been there forever. But that didn't mean they weren't nimble and competent. The experience was amazing. We had terrific food (amazing apps, excellent shellfish, perfect temp steaks, etc.), excellent wines from a really good wine list, and just incredible service. It's a throwback in so many ways, but has a really modern take on high-end service. The meal prep/timing/technique was flawless, which made it worth the expense. If you have the budget and want a true Las Vegas experience for a business meal in a private dining setting, I'd recommend Golden Steer wholeheartedly.

This place is phenomenal! Amazing staff and food. The experience of the service was top notch. Salads made table side, had a tomahawk steak that we shared between 4 people w pieces to spare. Cooked too perfection. Sides def shareable. We had a party of 14 and they were able to make us all feel comfortable and get what we needed and wanted. Dessert flambeed tableside was fun to watch. A great place for days night or friends gathering. It is a bit pricey so look up the menu before going so there's no sticker shock.

We had a very nice evening here. Our reservation was for 9:00 and we were seated by 9:15. The sommelier was a super pro and the team that worked our table was great. Our server was a little green but he was nice and working on his technique. The lobster tail was an 8/10. A little dry, but still very flavorful. At $109 a tail, I did expect a little more precision in the cooking; someone came out while we were halfway through our salads to ask if we were ready for our lobster. When we said no, perhaps they went under a heat lamp? The macaroni and cheese was tasty and the wedge salad was just okay. When our server asked if we’d like regular ice or a big cube in our bourbon, we were a little surprised that the “big cube” was a $2 up charge. Still, a very good dinner, very nice staff, and a very lovely experience. I would go back and give it another chance.

Incredible restaurant. The steaks were some of the best we have ever had. Amazing desserts with many to choose from. You can’t beat the nostalgia of this place.

Impossible to get reservations unless you book months in advance. But you can go and sit at the bar or be put on wait list and still eat here. We saw this place on the news, so we were so excited to try it. It is OK, but not that great. The steak was OK quality and cooked at correct temperature. The lobster was overcooked. The French fries were suppose to be gluten free but they fry the calamari in the same fryer. Luckily the waiter came out and left me know before I ate any. Not many GF options for appetizers. It is expensive for the quality they give you.

Had a terrible time at the Golden Steer. My girlfriend is a local of Las Vegas and had told me of how historic and charming this place was. We tried to drop in for a casual drink at the bar (which she had done many times in the past). We had nobody to greet us at the door, so we worked our way towards the bar. It was full, so we waited our turn for a nice couple to finish up and offer us their bar stools. As we sat down we were confronted by a rather curt bar tender telling us that we were not entitled to seat ourselves and that we needed to join a waiting list to even sit at the bar. Something neither of us had encountered in the past at any bar. When we asked if we could join the wait list to even sit at the bar he told us not to bother. So we left. It’s sad that we had to leave with such a sour impression of what is reputed to be a LV icon.

We had an 8pm reservation. We weren’t seated until around 8:45 but that was explained when we checked in. Apparently a power outage from the night before so they were trying to squeeze in some reservations from the night before. For as long as it takes to get a reservation here, I completely understood. If ours was cancelled and moved to the next night under those circumstances I’d be plenty happy so we were very understanding. Now, they did make this up to us by bringing us a few complementary items. We started with a table side Caesar salad. It was perfection as always. It never lets down and I get it to start every time. One person in our party of four got the French onion soup. She said it was great. Next they brought out the butchers cut meatballs. Good size and so flavorful. These were a complementary item brought to us for our long wait. I’d order these next time I visit as an appetizer for sure. My wife ordered the eggplant parm and she was also given a side of the toasted ravioli. She loved the eggplant parm and said the raviolis were pretty good. One of my friends ordered the chicken parm and said it was one of the best he’s ever had. Myself and one other friend ordered the ribeye. Both had it cooked medium rare and it was perfectly medium rare. Tons of flavor! I’ve ordered the ribeye every time I’ve come here and it’s always a great choice. We had the whipped potatoes as a side and also the garlic Parmesan broccoli. The potatoes were so creamy and full of flavor. The broccoli was pretty good. I don’t think I’d order the broccoli again but it wasn’t bad, just not worth getting again. I’d go back to the asparagus like I normally get. We capped it off with a table side bananas foster and a Spumoni Bomba. Both were amazing desserts. Service, as always was a 200/10. Very attentive. My wine glass never reached empty until I refused a refill. These servers were working their tales off all over the room and were absolutely killing it. We will be back again!

A little pricey, but for a special occasion we splurged. Staff was great. Twice baked potatoes were delicious as were the meatballs.

Went here with the guys, about 12 of us ages 45 to 60. I think Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Junior were there that night too. But seriously if you want the feel of old Las Vegas when you were treated like a king, this is the place. The food, service and atmosphere are fantastic.
Be the first to ReplyBest Steakhouse we have ever been to!!
I will say that my son made the reservation too late for us to make a show after dinner, they were extremely accommodating getting us in earlier even though they were fully booked so we could make the show. These people are sooooo nice and pleasant. The food was outstanding, we all had Caesar salad done at our table (The best we all have ever had) and steaks and lobsters that were outstanding. Service was incredible!! We sat in the booth where Elvis always sat after each of his shows. We all will definitely be back, soooo good!!!
Be the first to ReplyTook a step back into some wonderful Las Vegas history.
We took a step back into a Las Vegas of yesteryear by dining at the Golden Steer. We were wowed by the attention to detail and the level of staff to ensure a great experience. We both had filet entrees and the Caesar salad. Steaks were cooked to perfection and their tableside prepared salad was also excellent. The history in the building oozes in every nook and booth. In reading about the restaurant's history I learned that Frank Sinatra used to dine with Sammy Davis Jr at the Golden Steer. It was apparently one of the few restaurants that allowed for integrated dining at the time. We also learned that the Steer was opened by a former St. Louis native. To this day they still feature 'toasted ravioli' as an appetizer, a St. Louis tradition.
Be the first to ReplyYou want the best here it is
Well if you want the best steaks and seafood this is the place. We had the French onion soup and wedge salad along with steak and lobster with a side order of Alaskan King Crab, oh yah we also had for sides a baked potato and mushrooms…. To say I was stuffed was an understatement… it was the wife’s birthday in a week so they gave her a slice of cheesecake…. All I can say is WOW, great service great food great experience.
Be the first to ReplyCaesar salad was great
Had the tableside Caesar salad and it was great. The tableside presentation is quite good and boy is that dressing garlicy. Ordered the fillet minion and it was very tender and cooked to perfection. No room for dessert. Had a booth and that made the ambiance extra special
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Anniversary Dinner
As we arrived, we were greeted with a great smile and a hearty hello. They knew who we were from our reservation. We were here to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary and had requested the Elvis Booth but were told that it is reserved for larger parties which is completely understandable. Walking through the dining room you could feel the history. We were seated in the Holly Madison booth which was very spacious, comfortable and had a wonderful view of the beautiful room. As our server Bryant came to the table, he brought two complimentary glasses of champagne to celebrate our anniversary. He introduced himself and gave us a brief history on the restaurant. If those walls could talk! He took our drink orders and promptly returned with the Perfect Manhattan and a GG tonic with lime. Both were so tasty. The Perfect Manhattan, with large cube, was perfect. We ordered the Large Seafood Stuffed Mushroom Caps to start. The seafood stock should be served in a cup as I would like to drink it. ;) The fresh tableside prepared Caesar Salad was crisp and light. I had the Petite Filet Mignon medium rare and my wife had the Jumbo Western Australian Lobster Tail. The steak was excellent and prepared perfectly. The lobster was so thick and delectable! The timing of the meal was nice and not rushed at all. We skipped the sides for a second round of drinks instead. :} We had no room for desert but would love to try the Bananas Foster next time. And there will be a next time! Throughout the meal Bryant was on point. We also had several other servers making sure all our needs were met, the table was clean between courses. Such a fantastic experience and we look forward to celebrating our 20th Anniversary with the Golden Steer this year!!!

We flew into Vegas from Seattle to dine here for my 43rd birthday. Our dinner reservation was at 7:15pm and we were running behind, however I did call to inform the staff of this. Upon arrival, everyone was so kind, courteous and accommodating. We were still able to get a table with very minimal wait time. Our waiter, Bryon, was so friendly and informative, as this was our first visit. I tried the Oysters on the half shell for my first time and was instantly hooked. The table side Cesar Salad was one of the best I’ve ever had and it was a pleasure to witness it being prepared so precisely. For our entree, we ordered the Tomahawk for 2 with mac and cheese, twice baked potato and the jumbo Australian lobster. Everything was deliciously seasoned to perfection and flavorful. Lastly, the complimentary slice of cheesecake for my birthday was a sweet and creamy unexpected gesture. Thank You to all the staff at Golden Steer Las Vegas. This one night in town was definitely worth it. Your hospitality was welcomed and very much appreciated. We felt like “regulars” from start to finish. And an honorable mention to the lovely bartender for recommending the il Fauno di Arcanum wine.

We went here for my wife's birthday. We each had a cocktail, Salad( prepared tableside, was very good}, shrimp cocktail(large& crisp) ,escargots(delicious) ,petite filet( fantastic and cooked to perfection), and large baked potato. The restaurant was very attractive, and the service was top notch. While not a cheap experience, this is the best steakhouse I've experienced. I cannot rate anyplace above this!
Be the first to ReplyDisappointment with dinner
We've been to golden steer several times before, but this time well, it wasn't that great. Had to send my steak back to get it cooked correctly. I was gonna send it back twice but was already so disappointed in the cooking. I didn't want to push it. And I'm sorry, for $70, I expected perfection, silly me. Then, we saw the bill. I didn't realize the Caesar salad was $20/person. That's on me. But for two of us, steak, salad, and 1 side a piece, almost $300 with the tip. And we only had iced tea!! Next time, we will skip the salad, split a side, have water, and hopefully, the steak will be cooked right!

If you you are a fan of vintage Las Vegas then this is the restaurant for you. I have been going to the Golden Steer for many, many years and they have NEVER disappointed me with their service and food.

We went here for our 29th anniversary. It was a Monday night and was still very busy, which is generally a good sign. we started off at the bar and waited about 30 minutes until our table opened up. We did have reservations. Still not too bad. We ordered oysters for an appetizer and a tomahawk steak for two for the main course. We each had a couple of mixed drinks as well. The drinks were really good. The oysters were extremely small and the soup was excellent. Staff were accessible and pleasant. The biggest beef I had was that the tomahawk steak was tough, cold, and inconsistently cooked. Not sure how a medium rare steak was rare on one end and medium on the other. I put a piece in my mouth but had to spit it into my napkin after a while because I couldn't chew and swallow it. I then cut the precut pieces into much smaller pieces. After paying for the meal, we left. I had taken a picture of the bill because I send pictures of our trips to a friend who can't travel. When I sent it to her she was curious why we had eaten four caesar salads. We had been presented with the wrong bill but I hadn't paid attention. I tried calling the next day after they opened but they don't answer their phone or respond timely to messages. So I drove back to the restaurant in vegas traffic. I went in and spoke to the host and told him about my bill. He was very nice and we figured out that they had presented the wrong bill but had charged me correctly in the end. I just felt that after dropping $400 and change on dinner/drinks that it would have been better. Maybe it was just a one off because many people seem to like it.
Be the first to ReplyA must visit
My wife and I visited for our second time in January of 2023 and we were not disappointed. We ordered the steak and lobster for two with a Ceasar salad prepared tableside and a could of side dishes that come with that deal. I believe our servers name was Carlos and he was just great, taking time to explain the specials on the menu and just being all around friendly. Our food was all spectacular just as it was the first time that we visited back in January 2022. I'm sure that we will make the Golden Steer a must every time that we visit Las Vegas. It isn't the cheapest date, the bill was just under 300 dollars for the two of us, but for a special occasion I see no problem spending that amount of money for the experience. It's just a wonderful place, with the supper club vibe, and the dedicated booths just adding to the charm.

Fantastic atmosphere and you can feel the history of the place as well as see it on all of the walls where there is a who’s who of autographed photographs. As for the food, it was the best steak I have ever eaten and the sides complimented the meat perfectly. Cheap it ain’t, but you only live once and the whole experience is well worth the money. And just remember, if this place was on the strip, it would cost at least double.

I heard great things about this restaurant and was not disappointed. We had made reservations and arrived on time. We were taken immediately to our table. Bread and butter were served immediately. Our server, David, greeted us and asked for our drink order, and provided us with the drink order. We were given our drinks and had the specials described. My wife chose a filet mingon, I had the Prime rib, my Father the Lamb chops, and our daughter the chicken fingers. My wife also had the onion soup which was superb. The meat was tender, and plentiful. My fathers chops were so big he only had one ( the rest we took home). The wait staff and busboys were very attentive. The ambience was very manly with lots of woods and dark surfaces. The place is much bigger than it looks like from the outside. There is a dress code so read the code on the web site. The cost was not excessive but not cheap either. I recommend this for a good steak.
