Gracias to Gracias Madre
As a vegetarian, how amazing it is to look at a menu and know I could order anything offered without giving it a second thought! There were so many choices! We started with chips, guacamole and salsa. The chips were amazing! Each of our entrees were delicious with many ingredients. This meant there were so many flavors and textures. The portions were filling. Service was great; the staff were quick and responsive. For a Thursday evening, the place was bustling! I recommend this restaurant highly.

Very approachable restaurant, with attentive service good food and drinks. Comfortable sitting, with a nice decor inside and out.

Casual, very good vegan cafe, with nice atmosphere, good mexican dishes. It seems to be trendy and i noticed a lot of friends gatherings.

Picked this place for our last lunch in LA . I obviously have a physical problem . I walk with a cane and struggle sitting in certain seats . I asked if I could use a cushion from another chair to help me. The young lady said NO you canโt . At first I thought it was a joke . The restaurant was not busy . My husband repeated request followed by the same answer. The waiter took our order then when he came back he got it wrong then spilled my drink. Didnโt clean it up . I had to take a napkin from other table to dry it up myself. I was very disappointed in our whole experience. Especially the cushion , It made me feel very uncomfortable and self conscious . I havenโt felt like this anywhere Iโve been in California this trip . Most places ive visited have been very helpful and made me feel very comfortable.

I loved Gracias Madre when it first opened. The menu is amazing and the ambience is great. Love the outdoors space at night too! Service is great but food just isn't the same. Today I went for lunch and ordered a salad with Taco/Walnut meat. It came out with a table spoon of that mix over green leaves. Such a shame.
Be the first to ReplyBarely mediocre
Overall unimpressed. The food was mediocre at best. My $9 bowl of chips and salsa included at least 50% crushed fragments of chips. For $9 I expect every chip to be perfectly triangular. Then when I ran out of salsa, served in a tiny little bowl. I asked for some more cells up. I was brought out a $3.25 2 oz small salsa, as the receipt says. Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of money, and I'm willing to spend any amount if the meal is top notch. But this restaurant is overrated and underperforms. The dining room, indoor and outdoor, is relatively nice. The bathroom is clean. The servers and post staff were friendly. I'd give service a 4 out of five.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Atmosphere, Food and Service!
Who knew vegan Mexican food would be so good! Loved the atmosphere. We sat outside on the patio; loved it! Our waitress was exceptional; very friendly and happy! My only regret is I forgot to purchase a cookbook! I will be back on our next trip to this area!

I CONFESS I am a meat eater. And I have no natural inclinations toward vegetarian food. HOWEVER i still really enjoyed my experience here. Love the al fresco dining, great cocktails, chips and guac were ON POINT. And amazing enchiladas. Wouldnโt mind coming here to eat a little cleaner once in a while ๐

A wonderful place to dine and drink in West Hollywood. Very LA with a mixed crowd of young types and older Hollywood couples. Bar area was for drinks and small bites, but you could still grab a seat at this popular place. We booked ahead but just had to wait a few minutes for our table to be free. The food was all vegetarian, and was incredible prepared and cooked. Black tortillas were novel, and the enchilades verde were lovely. Wine selection was large. The staff were very attentive and friendly.

Overpriced and under seasoned. Vegan food does not need to be this bland. Potato flautas had no flavor at all. Chips and salsa are no better/no worse than any generic mexican restaurant. Mixed drinks will double your bill.
Be the first to Replygood vegetarian jackfruit tacos, but most of menu ridiculously overpriced
Ridiculously overpriced chips with 3 types of salsas: $20 for a little guacamole, mole and pineapple salsa with a basket of ordinary salty chips. $22 for 3 vegetarian tacos with guacamole. $7 for lemonade. Slow service despite very few people there.

Anniversary brunch at Gracias Madre was a hit! As vegetarians (and one of us gluten-free) it's always a delight to go to a restaurant where just about anything on the many can be eaten. We were the first in the door when they opened on the morning we went and opted to sit inside...as lovely and expansive as the outdoor patio is, we're fans of indoor temperatures and not wind in our food. :) Both spaces are nice. I had the French Toast...you'd never know this was vegan... coconut-based whipped cream, maple syrup, and, well, just super yum and indulgent. This dish alone is worth making the trip from anywhere. (And as a salute to their other restaurant, I ordered it as "I am French Toast.") The coffee (Groundwork) was also great...just as strong as I wanted it to be. It was a 2 cup morning. My wife enjoyed her Madre bowl a lot, as well as the Hibiscus Ginger Kefir Soda she got...Neither of us ever get sodas of any kind but this was refreshing, great-tasting, and not sickly sweet as many soft drinks can be. There is A LOT to try here (and this was just the brunch menu!) If we lived closer we'd undoubtedly be there all the time. Thanks for a great anniversary brunch Gracias Madre!

Beautiful setting & good drinks canโt make up the mediocre, over priced food. Phyish tacos are dry and tortillas bland. You have to have good tortillas!! Chips and guacamole good

Rarely do I leave a place fantasizing about dynamiting it. I was so furious when we left. My feelings were hurt, my time was wasted. Ok. Where do I begin, my girlfriend K and I were in Los Angeles. She is vegan and wanted to try this place, a posh Mexican joint in West Hollywood, what could go wrong, right? From the moment we walked in I had my misgivings. The place was too posh, the hostess was a Gwyneth Paltrow lookalike, I felt ugly and out of place...but I was still trying to maintain an open mind. Our server Steve or Steven was very kind - I want to get this out of the way first; there was nothing wrong with the service - I'm talking about the food vs price and atmosphere. We asked for iced coffees and were brought what I'm almost positive were hot coffee that someone had added ice to( I really would have preferred if they had said, "Sorry, we don't have iced coffee or we're out", etc..). It was of course water down and lousy. She ordered tacos, the tacos were jackfruit. They came arranged on those little metal accordions that gringos insist on serving tacos on, because Mexicans have been apparently serving tacos incorrectly for 500 years. I ordered the potato flautas. I should explain here why I ordered those. You see, my mother is Mexican and she is also. My mom's food tastes like she learned to cook in Alcatraz, however, there was one thing that she made fairly well, potato flautas, so, I figured that they must be really hard to screw up and, I was feeling nostalgic. When we got the flautas they were under seasoned and dull. In fact to my amazement I even thought as I was chewing, "My mom makes this better". I have never thought that about any food - mind you. I tried a bite of my partner's tacos, the jackfruit was briny and off-putting. We didn't have the heart to tell Steven or Steve or Stephen that the food and coffee were terrible so we merely grunted when he asked us how it was. Then we asked for the check. The place is expensive, which of course we knew, but the reality of it really hit us when we had to pay. I felt like hiring a witch to put a hex on the owner. I felt like dynamiting the joint(hyperbole), I felt like standing outside all day and warning people about what a fraud the place was. It was pretty bad, but not like they attempted something special and failed bad, more like they just don't give a damn and they have the gall to charge you and act like their doing you a big favor by allowing you into their pretentious upscale dump bad. I'm usually not this apoplectic about restaurants but not only will I not be going back, I hope the place gets hit by an asteroid to make room for a vegan restaurant run by people who actually care. A couple of days later we went to an inexpensive hole in the wall in Lincoln Heights (lots of Mexicans) and ordered vegan enchiladas. They were flavorful, robust and hearty, not to mention, reasonably priced. It can be done folks. You can absolutely get good vegan Mexican cuisine. ..Just not here.

Food was excellent. Service was great. Nachos were huge. Margaritas were strong. We sat outside on the sidewalk section, which wasnโt as nice as the terraced but still Managed to have a good ambience to it.

Great all vegan food, cool interior and bustling for a Sunday. Reccomend the nachos as a sharer for a starter
Be the first to ReplyOk, but not great
I had the eggplant sandwich and my friend had the taco trio. While the bread was good for the sandwich, it completely overwhelmed the reason to eat it, which is the thin, nearly non-existent eggplant. He claimed his tacos were good, but were heavy on the chili. The guacamole was good and I'm glad they didn't stir salsa into or a stray jalapeno. We sat outdoors, which was nice, but I don't think I'll be back.
