Large group - good service, good food, $$$$
We had 12 or 13 people at a long table for an after-work gathering. Someone else was picking up the check or else I likely would have opted out. A pricey French-style Bistro is not in my comfort zone, but I'm glad I stayed. Many of the offerings were served to our table either as individual orders or for group sharing. Starters: Chevre & Fava Tartine, Maine Mussels, Tarte Flambee, and a couple of the Charcuterie Plateau. Main Courses: Sea Bass (my choice, and it was very good), Confit Chicken, Duck Breast (several had it, I got to try it and it was very good), Lamb shank, and Steak Frites (several had this). The food was uniformly very good. There was a team of servers/bussers who visited our table. The lead server did a great job. Very professional and very attentive.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent chef but service doesnโt match
Iโve been here 3 times now and each time the food has been wonderful and the service has declined. Last week 4 of us went for my birthday and only one personโs food was hot. Two of us had the wonderful sea bass but it was lukewarm. We told the waiter when we saw him later and his only response was he would tell the kitchen. We were seated upstairs which I think was part of the issue in terms of being able to get attention. Then when the bill came, it seemed unusually high and I saw that they build in a tip which I hadnโt realized the first two times so had ended up tipping nearly 40%. It does say you can add an additional tip - which none of us did this time- but if you are checking carefully you could miss this. And they charge $50 for no-shows on reservations which is not customary in the city for other restaurants of the same caliber for small groups (4 people). Iโll go back again sometime, but not soon.

We ate outdoors at Grand Tour. The setting was pleasant and pretty quiet. Our food was terrific. We ordered several small plates as appetizers for the table. They were all vegetarian options, and really good. The menu, though fairly small, offers entrees for those seeking fish, meat or vegetarian. All were terrific. The chocolate dessert is a nice way to end the meal. Service was prompt, friendly and quite good. We will happily return.

authentic french food! love the location right on Newbury. recently got take out, and cannot wait for them to be open so I can go back!
Be the first to ReplyOur dinner was very good,
Our dinner was very good, distinctly fresh and flavorful. We had a large group and ordered lots of different dishes. The location on Newbury also couldnโt be better. Loved the ambiance, super cozy and comfortable. I strongly recommend this restaurant. I would suggest reservations in advance!

A big disappointment and we would definitely not go back. The restaurant is very pricey and mediocre at best. We each had the steak frites. The steak was tough and the French fries were soggy. The seating is very crammed. Barstools have no back and are so tight, you are sitting with your elbows tucked in. Not comfortable. The bartender listened to our conversation and then laughed at some of our comments. Very rude. We received the bill and a 20% tip is automatically added. We will not go back or recommend it!
Be the first to ReplyLunch on day three was seamless...like Grand Tour had always been there
As a fan of Select Oyster, I had to try Grand Tour, their new French Bistro on Newbury Street. Happened to go on a Friday, after they opened on Wednesday! Service was smooth and gracious...nothing like you would expect on the third day of a restaurant being opened. The space is beautiful and bright. Great art and tributes to cycling around the space. Food? Good! French with a twist for sure (other than the steak frites, which were totally traditional). My friend and I went veggie heavy for lunch - the butternut squash crudo was fantastic; imagine butternut squash presented like a seafood crudo. Speaking of crudo, the ocean trout crudo was so, so good. We could have ordered the cauliflower again for dessert. Leeks were not our favorite, but that was the only dish that didn't jump off the plate. Interestingly, all American wines on the by-the-glass list. Apparently in their experience from Select, lots of foreign tourists want to sample American wines. Bottle list filled with French wine. Will I be back - absolutely. Good job Grand Tour!
