We have come to greens many times for celebrations.
We came here first to celebrate my nephew's birth: we had a reservation at the restaurant for a part of 3. I dropped of my mother and sister at the point closest to the restaurant since my mother has terrible arthritis and cannot walk. My sister asked to be seated before I parked the car and came explaining that the my mother had an arthritis. The manager of the front desk refused to seat us even though I was barely a minute away and my mother has a disability. We had such an excellent server. But the meeting at first is such an shame. This has tarnished for me what were very fond memories.

An utter disappointment - We were looking forward to
An utter disappointment - We were looking forward to celebrate in one of the few upscale plant-based restaurant that SF has to offer. Sad, but true there is really nothing in this place that would measure up to expectations of fine dining. For a &100 pp experience one would expect some sort of style, but this place simply has none. From start to finish we did not feel welcome. Once seated we were rushed through our dishes and presented with the bill while still chewing. Quality of the food mediocre at best, cocktails an uninspired disaster (at least they should nail this one, we are in SF after all). Wine pairings absent. Overall, this is a Fort Mason Tourist trap - Stay away
It was my first time on a first date. The Polenta Mushroom was amazing. The this post is from November 25,2022. The ambience was perfect with a view of the bay and Golden Gate Bridge.
🙂
Great place for vegetarian/vegan food.
Visited on a Saturday afternoon for brunch. My order:- mimosa - yum!- smoked cheddar and chive biscuits - very good- coconut curry spinach soup - good- pear and goat cheese tartine - yum!- sweet potato papusas - yum!- orange chocolate ganache tart - goodOverall, the place deserves 5/5 for food. Every dish was very flavorful and thoughtfully crafted. However, the service was average as the servers were not too attentive. Having said that, the food was so good that I would visit again to try out the dinner options. :)

Prix Fixe Dinner on Saturday
To celebrate Loretta’s 65th Birthday, we went to Greens Restaurant in San Francisco’s Fort Mason. We happened to make dinner reservations for a Saturday, which happened to be when Greens offers a 7-course Prix Fixe dinner. It was quite a delightful surprise.

I came here with some family who wanted vegetarian food
I came here with some family who wanted vegetarian food with fun ambience. Greens did not disappoint!Greens is a popular spot for good reason. There are great views of the Golden Gate Bridge, and the restaurant was buzzing with energy. We started with the crispy polenta cake. This dish was a standout for me - the polenta was nicely cooked and had a crispy exterior that gave way to a creamy, flavorful interior. The accompanying tomato sauce was bright and tangy, with just the right amount of acidity to cut through the richness of the polenta. The addition of fresh herbs and grated parmesan cheese brought the dish together well. For my main I had the chickpea and artichoke stew. This hearty dish was full of complex flavors and textures. The chickpeas were cooked to perfection, with a tender yet firm bite, and the artichokes added a delightful earthiness to the stew. The broth was rich and savory, with just a hint of spice that lingered on the palate. This dish was the perfect comfort food on a chilly day.I also decided to try the hibiscus iced tea. This refreshing beverage was the perfect complement to my meal - it was slightly tart, with just a hint of sweetness, and had a beautiful deep pink color. I appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet, and the hibiscus flavor was distinct without being overpowering. Finally, for dessert, we ordered the Meyer lemon tart. The filling was creamy and smooth, with a bright, zesty lemon flavor that wasn't too sweet. The crust was buttery and flaky, with just the right amount of crunch. The tart was topped with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkling of candied lemon peel, which added just the right amount of sweetness and texture to the dish.Overall, Greens Restaurant was a fantastic dining experience. The food was inventive, flavorful, and beautifully presented, and the atmosphere was lively and inviting.

The cuisine at Greens continues to be outstanding! CHEF
The cuisine at Greens continues to be outstanding! CHEF KATIE, YOU ROCK! The menu is creative, very well thought-out, and ever-changing based on the seasons. True vegetarian comfort food with an inventive flair! That's why Greens is our go-to restaurant every time we are in town. There's always something new and exciting to try--it's hard to decide--so we order a few dishes to share. The service is friendly and attentive, the sunset over the bay is breathtaking. Our entire family will be visiting San Francisco in May, and we will definitely be dining at Greens several times while we are there. Can't wait!
Current "executive chef" is a girl who got promoted out of their kitchen to help pivot them to takeout during lockdown, and it REALLY shows. Last night we ordered the "Escarole & Fagioli Pasta", and got served shell pasta with bland boiled beans, no sauce, and pre-grated parmesan. As in the starch-covered little parmesan sticks like you buy in a tub at Costco. It was so bland that I ended up asking for more (pre-grated, tub) parmesan. In the past they'd be serving thoughtfully considered house-made ravioli with farm-to-table local cheese. This however is the sort of dish you'd get from a food delivery subscription on an off-night. If I tried cooking dinner and my pasta came out like this, I'd honestly be embarassed. We also ordered the Paprikash Stew and while it wasn't as demoralizing as the pasta, it was super basic and unelevated. Like exactly the kind of canned tomatoes + stock + chopped vege stew I'd chuck into my Instapot during the pandemic, with a giant scoop of basmati rice and too much pickled kale on the side. Like the kind of dish you find at the bottom of a meat menu as the "Vegetarian option" for the sake of having an option.Views are still amazing--the best in the city, a great way to impress out-of-towners, and probably the only reason to eat here. Service is ok, but not attentive like fine dining or even regular neighborhood restaurants. SF is one of the food capitols of the world and the baseline level of creativity quality at most ordinary restaurants out here is fantastic. It's particularly disappointing to encounter this level of cafeteria food mediocrity at a spot that used to be so special.

2 of 3 of our guests emailed and called ahead to ask for a low salt diet for one guest and were well-assured both via email and by phone that that would be no problem, but once there, it was suddenly impossible. They may have been shocked but we just up and left. It was a good restaurant a long time ago but I can't say that now since we were forced to leave so we didn't even eat there. No recommendation for the false info they gave us!

The food is amazing but the ambience of the whole
The food is amazing but the ambience of the whole restaurant and waterside view makes it that much better. Love their pasta and shakshouka best. Good quality food and portions are decent. Even non vegetarians love it!

We had our wedding in the Bay Room at Greens last week.
The team at Greens could not have been more helpful in organizing all parts of the event from table configuration and choice of napkins and tablecloths through to menu options. Greens' in-house sommelier helped with wine and welcome cocktail selections and their pastry chef created two spectacular looking and delicious tasting cakes. The food and location were amazing as expected. Sierra the event coordinator was very flexible, giving us space to make our own decisions but stepping in when she saw we needed help. While all the other venues we spoke started every off every conversation by telling us what they couldn't do, Greens accommodated all our needs without fuss or drama. The staff at Greens made our day very special and I would recommend Greens for any event.
Amazing food, so good and gluten free. A lovely place to celebrate a special occasion and indulge in a very fancy dessert.

I have been to greens a few times before and the food is always exceptional. I really enjoyed the view from the restaurant both in the morning and at night. The service was absolutely wonderful as well - our waitress was so kind and funny and really helpful when it came to picking what we wanted to eat. The pasta was delicious and the vada was also very good with the chutney.
😍
It's our Go To place in the City.
The service is always on point as well as the food. Just make sure to make reservations ahead of time if you want to sit inside. Outside seating is nice as well however, the views are better inside.
🙂
Still Great Vegetarian Cuisine
We had not been to Greens in many years, and I am happy to report that the quality is still outstanding. The interior is not all that special, but the views out the big windows of the Golden Gate Bridge are terrific. Very attentive service. Interesting inventive dishes. Nice evening with friends.

If you have friends or family who are vegetarian or you
If you have friends or family who are vegetarian or you feel like celebrating with some delicious veggies, this restaurant is going to be a new hot spot for you! However, for those who have lived in SF for a minute or are locals, this restaurant fafor putting veggies on the map BEFORE it was a trend. In 1979 Greens changed the way vegetarian food was appreciated and eaten in America, that's right, not just in San Francisco. How did this journey begin? Well the origin story of this culinary destination started as the San Francisco Zen Center. It allowed Buddhist students to extend their practice into a workplace setting and the practice of compassion is still at the heart of Greens today. On top of leading the vegetarian movement, this restaurant has also paved a way for female chefs in the industry, such as Annie Somerville, Denise st. Ong, and Katie Reicher. So while you're visiting Fort Mason, wall through the doors of Greens and transport yourself to a place of wonder and excitement. Create food memories,Isabelle Pinard

Disappointing experience
Went here straight after my son had proposed to his girlfriend. Out of the 9 members of our group she is the only vegetarian. I didn’t enjoy the food at all, very bland and expensive for the dishes we received. Disappointed that the waitress cleared everyone’s plates away while I was still eating. She brought out tea and coffee without milk and sugar so we had to ask for some. Thought it would have been better because of previous reviews.

Great Atmosphere and Service
This is a pure vegetarian restaurant. Sommelier is outstanding. Friendly, knowledgeable, excellent wine selection. Highlight of evening. Food is excellent.
We were so happy to get a last minute reservation here. We sat outside (I think the view is better from the other side) but the area was well lit and heated. The food was really excellent - highlights were the carrot hummus and the grill d cabbage shawarma. Should have passed on dessert.
😍
Good vegetarian food and friendly service
Had a really lovely dinner here- nice service and great vegetarian food. The room was a little too warm for my liking but apart from that no other criticisms!

Delicious and Unique Lunch
It has been several years since we have had lunch at Greens. The lunch menu has a number of new to us dishes and some of the old favorites. We tried the mushroom rice soup and it was terrific. A new to us dish was the Kimchi Pancake - the pancake contained corn and scallions. It was served with a somewhat spicy and very tasty aioli. I wanted to order a second one but resisted. Next we tried the eggplant caponata which is served on garlic whipped ricotta cheese and with an excellent roll. Our final dish was Hodo Tofu Bruschettes served with israeli couscous, pomegranate, garbanzos, sweet potato and eggplant. The dessert menu read like a dream but we were way too full. Every dish was delicious. The chef does a great job of combining various spices, etc.
😍
Great meal, great view, great service
We came here on recommendation from a local and it didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed a lovely relaxed meal as the sun went down behind the Golden Gate Bridge. The food was very tasty, the server friendly and knowledgable and the in house bread was a particular treat.

Yummy Vegetarian Lunch - carnivores will not miss the meat!
A thoroughly wonderful experience. The food was outstanding and the service impeccable. My husband had the spicy eggplant tofu and I had the pappardelle. We shared a dessert. All were terrific and the view amazing.

Came here to celebrate my friend's birthday.
Great experience! Service was good! Everything we had was yummy!

This restaurant was phenomenal! We tried it for the first
This restaurant was phenomenal! We tried it for the first time last night and wish we lived closer, so we could be regulars! We had the grilled peaches and yuba noodle salad to start, which were both very good. I had a bowl of the Dal as my main and my husband had a bowl of the soup of the day, a corn and coconut soup. Both were really yummy. For dessert we shared their gluten free chocolate hazelnut cake. So good! We also had two of their hot ginger whisky (I think it was whisky), which were very good too. My husband actually said this was his favorite vegetarian restaurant he's been to, which is saying a lot. I've dragged him to so many over the years and he usually just thinks they're ok. In other words, even meat eaters will love this spot!
😍
My favorite brunch on the water.
Even though I'm not vegetarian I love it and we enjoy taking omnivore guests here both for the view and for the delicious food. Definitely worth a visit even if you usually eat meat.
😍
Our favorite place for special occasions.
It's relatively pricey but the food is so perfectly farm to table, innovative, highest organic quality; seasonally rotated menus. We're meat eaters but never miss the meat when eating here as cheese (great polenta and cheese gratin-casserole) and mushroom dishes are hearty enough. Beautiful location on the water with view of Mt Tam- try to schedule your dinner for sunset hour and try to get a window seat! Window seating is by availability as you arrive, if you request that; you wait a bit until the next available one but they can't really estimate how long until folks leave (they do know when parties were seated- 20 minutes ago, half hour ago; but can't predict when they might leave). The downside is that it is a bit noisy and crowded if you're are in the middle of the floor- narrow aisles, tables rather close together, people knocking into you as they pass. They're very reluctant to re-seat you if your table is not working out. Really try to get seated along the windows or the edges of the room.

Vegetarian menu with really interesting entree's, soups, etc. Sometimes a vegetarian meal leaves you hungry but not here. The meals were filling and delicious. We ordered a bunch of small plates and shared and it was really fun trying the different dishes. The restaurant is in a building in Fort Mason with a nice view of the bay, high ceilings and a cool decor. Great vibe, our server was super friendly and fun. The kind of person who walks up, acts like she is your best friend and can pull it off. We were worried about driving and parking in SF, but there is a convenient paid parking lot and it was no problem. I could imagine having a business lunch or dinner here - and I think many patrons were doing just that. But it is within walking distance to the tourist areas and close to Crissy Field. This would be a really nice alternative while sightseeing if you want to rest in a comfortable environment and get a great meal.
😍
Excellent restaurant and great service all vegetarian
Excellent restaurant and great service all vegetarian delights from appetizers to desert. Good list of French wines as well and nice view of the marina and on a clear day you can see the Golden Gate Bridge. Business or pleasure it's a nice place.

A visit to Greens has been on my list for years.
I honed my skill cooking fine vegetarian food from their cookbook. Sadly, our visit was a disappointment. The American courses seem to be what they do best, and some are quite good, but none were exceptional. Our service was passable, if a bit slow. The worst part, however, was that another sever who kept walking past (and we were outside) absolutely reeked of perfume, so that for some of my courses that was what I tasted. Don't bother splurging on a nice bottle of wine with dinner. I cannot fathom why a restaurant that set the standard in fine dining for vegetarian food does not address this. Heavy scents have no place in restaurants, and I would have expected to be safe from having my enjoyment of the food ruined by a server wearing perfume. I understand they might not be able to control guests, but they can and should ask their servers avoid perfume, cologne, and other strong scents. When I said something to our server she sent the manager over, who suggested it was likely "cultural differences." Sadly, I'm not sure I'll go back, though the dining room is gorgeous. We had a much better experience at Bouchon and Chez Panisse, even with fewer menu options. And it's quite expensive. Bouchon and Chez Panisse aren't inexpensive, but at least I didn't walk out feeling like I'd overpaid for those meals.

Really want to give this 5 stars! Food was sooo yum and the ambiance was great. But service wasn't great. We went to brunch at 12 on Sunday with a reservation. Loved all the unique wooden tables and we were seated by the water. Such a nice view! We ordered an app of hummus which was yummy but the coffee we order before didn't turn up till after it? Then for my main I got the potato griddle cakes vegan with tofu and my father tried the tacos. I LOVED the griddle cakes and the sauces were delicious. But they first messed up my order and brought a different hash. My dad didn't love the tacos as much and thought it needed more hot sauce/texture but the griddle cakes were 11/10. Getting the check, service was super slow. But on our way out we got a vegan crinkle cookie which was also 11/10 gooey and delicious.

Very disappointing experience
Having made a reservation at Greens through Open Table, at reception we were informed that only tables outside were available. Apparently our reservation request was processed this way. It was to cold to eat ourside, so we had to return home. No effort was made to find a solution for us. We didn’t feel very welcome.
Most of the food was quite good. The service was discombobulated from the beginning. Waited way too long to get our first drink order taken, then after that it was a carousel of different wait staff.
For a restaurant that does not serve meat, the meal selection was good. I would have rated higher if they'd had a gluten-free dessert without chocolate. I would have expected this offering at this restaurant.
