Amazing experience.
Can't get enough. Food is fantastic, and love the band / music.
Be the first to ReplyThe service here is horrible.
We had a reservation and still had to wait 30 minutes to get seated. Once seated, it felt like we were totally ignored. Why we waited another 30 minutes to finally leave is beyond me. The staff is super smug and entitled. I felt bad for people who were clearly there before us. They seemed to be getting the same glacial service we were. If you feel like waiting hours to eat or even drink...then enjoy!

Finally got to check off the famous Guelaguetza off my list! I came for a Wednesday dinner, and if you arrive at 7, there's easy street parking along Olympic, otherwise there's a valet service on Irolo. We ordered the molotes de papa con chorizo, the Tlayuda Guelaguetza, and the Festival de Moles, which for 3 people, was probably too much food haha. I've never tried molotes before, but I would definitely, highly recommend! It's kind of like a corn dog? As in chorizo that's deep fried in a corn batter and then topped with refried black beans, guacamole, and queso fresco. Delicious! The Tlayuda was wayyy bigger than I expected, kind of like a giant pizza. Definitely had a porky taste, and I wasn't the biggest fan of the chorizo links. I'd probably recommend just getting the Tasajo or cecina tlayuda tradicional and save your money. Adding avocado was also an additional $4. The festival de moles was also great and it was fun trying the different mole flavors! I'd probably rank the moles in the order of coloradito, rojo, negro, and estofado. We weren't the biggest fan of estofado because it was on the sweeter side whereas the others are more savory, so it was a little off when you switch between them. We also ordered it with chicken breast (you could also choose pork), but be aware, some bones slipped in. Overall, the festival de moles and molotes were great, but I'd probably skip on the tlayuda next time. I also ordered the horchata, which they make special by adding a couple extra bits like walnuts, cantaloupe, and cactus syrup, but it was still very refreshing and tasty! Definitely recommend! On Wednesday night, they also had a live band, and the restaurant overall was cute and lovely. I'm glad I made it out to this LA institution and would definitely recommend if you haven't tried Oaxacan food before!

I ordered a big catering order from this restaurant for the first time, but the delivery was 1 hr late and food came COLD. So I don't have any recommendations. Who wants to eat cold food? The delivery service sucked and what's really annoying is that those guys always ask for a tip ahead of time. If you can't fulfill the order in time then you shouldn't be tipped. The restaurant is 20 min away from the place of delivery and there is no reason for being 1 hr late.

I used to frequent this restaurant fairly often with friends and family but this past Saturday was the worst experience my date and I have ever had. We were there to celebrate a special day. And of course valet was mandatory my date asked 3 times of they knew how to drive stick and the second guy said yes twice. He proceeds to let go of the brake and not stop, hitting the car behind us. My date ran to turn the brake and of course we were pissed because he said he was experienced with stick. Instead of of apologizing the valet guy tried to walk away from the car to take another car. Meanwhile we're telling the valet guy that he is in the wrong and that we need to exchange insurances. The valet guy then told us he doesn't have his license and that it's in his car. So we said we can wait. As soon as we say that he now says he has it at home. He proceeds to curse at us in Spanish as if we can't understand him and start talking back in Spanish as well. No one from the restaurant came to see if we were ok or if we hurt. instead we get two valet guys with no way of identification or proof of license after they damaged the car. Of course we didn't feel like staying and this business clearly doesn't care about it's customers if it doesn't even bother having management come and see what the problem was and how to fix it never the less come and see who's going to pay for the damages. If you do want to come here I suggest looking for somewhere else to park and get ready for half decent food that you can get for cheaper and much better quality somewhere else

Delicious mole and other Mexican delicious food items with very fast and efficient service. We were initially told there was a 45m wait so we went to the bar. Turns out the table was ready in 5m! Don't be super discouraged by the wait time. The food comes out super fast and it's absolutely delicious. We tried the black and red mole, so good. Must try is their tortilla!! It was hands down the best tortilla I've ever had. We'll be back again.

If you want to dine in this restaurant and you have a baby in a stroller, they will not allow you to bring your stroller in. I went today with my family and the hostess told me I had to leave my stroller in the lobby because they don't have space. That's such an inconvenience when you have a 6 month old baby that's not yet ready to sit on a high chair. I suggested the patio , and she said it's not open until the afternoon. Apparently they did not want to bother accommodating us. We took our business elsewhere. Obviously not baby friendly.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing! Go! It was so terrific!Food was amazing.
The mole family style was delicious.
Be the first to ReplyThe mole is definitely the star of this restaurant.
The horchata (which comes with guava) is the best too. The chips with the Coloradito mole sauce was good. They make three moles, black, red and Coloradito. We tasted the red and the Coloradito (came with the chips). The mole sauce is definitely worth a visit. However, the pork and chicken that came with the two mole dishes were overcooked. It seems that they don't cook the meats in the mole sauces. They are cooked separately and added thereafter, so the meats are not marinating in the mole which is a pity. Nonetheless, the servers were kind and attentive.
Be the first to ReplyI have always enjoyed my times at Guelaguetza but this last
I have always enjoyed my times at Guelaguetza but this last visit was horrible. First off, the hostess forgot we had asked for a table and confused us. She thought we were part of this other party. She than said ooh you're a different party. When we got a seat it took over 20 minutes for a server to come to us. They usually come by first to take a drink order and then they come for your meal order, but nope no one did that. Mind you people who came AFTER us had their drinks order taken and had their drinks before us. As soon as she came to our table we ordered drinks and food, the food came out at a decent time. Second, our server was constantly checking in with other guests but not on our table. That was the most disappointing, seeing others get excellent customer service yet we weren't even acknowledged. She kept going back to the same tables multiple times to ask them about their food and if they needed more drinks, yet she didn't do this with us. We could hear because she was talking to the parties next to us. When she finally came she asked if we needed anything we just asked for the bill and containers to go. She took the cash and brought the change but not the containers. She went to the party next to us for what seem like the 8th time and was talking to them and brought them container and bags. After a while another server, a guy, brought some containers and he said "I brought you some because you look like you want to leave" which I was thankful for because who knows how much longer we would've needed to wait for our server to bring it. I have never received such terrible customer service it was beyond disappointing!
Be the first to ReplyA friend from Portland who makes yearly church mission
A friend from Portland who makes yearly church mission trips to Oaxaca highly recommended Guelaguetza, saying "Guelaguetza in L.A. is the best Oaxacan food outside of Oaxaca. Oaxacan food is the best food in Mexico."We also learned how Guelaguetza was a favorite of the late Los Angeles Times restaurant critic Jonathan Gold and quickly changed our lunch plans for a Friday lunch reservation for the outside patio at Guelaguetza.Kristy and I wanted to try the mole sampler, along with the Taco de Barbacoa de Chivo and the memela sampler. We knew it would be a lot of food, but we had four days in Southern California to enjoy it.We love the story of Fernando Lopez Mateos and how he brought his family to Los Angeles for a better life and opened a tiny restaurant to share the flavors of Oaxaca in a town better known for standard Mexican fare. And then showing how Los Angeles is truly a melting pot by opening in a larger space at the edge of Koreatown in a building that formerly housed one of the city's first Korean restaurants. It's heartening to see that Fernando's children have taken over the operation and take the same care and pride that their dad did in building the restaurant.Everything we ate was outstanding. We liked that we could get a taste of the four moles instead of having to choose just one. The memelas had a wonderful variety of toppings and the thick tortillas were flavorful. We didn't even touch the barbacoa goat tacos for lunch. They became our dinner that night, along with the other leftovers. They had a really great flavor.Service was wonderful. Our server was from Guatemala and was also following his dreams in coming to the U.S. All in all, it was a memorable experience. We also loved that while we had reservations, Guelaguetza encourages walk-ins and doesn't allow all the tables to be taken by those with reservations.
Be the first to ReplyReally awesome food.
Tasty on all levels! Get adventurous and try their chapulines which is super yummy and healthy as well. I also savored their horchata con tuna y nuez!
Be the first to ReplyGreat patio area.
Excellent food. Friendly staff. Just hope y'all get there before the hour long wait happens.

Reviews are legit! Does not disappoint! Start with the festival de mole to sample all the amazing moles. The taquitos were delicious and you could taste a hint of cinnamon in the meat. Wish I had an accessory stomach. I would have loved to try more!

With thousands of reviews and nearly an hour wait I had high expectations for this restaurant. Sadly, I was disappointed. The mole was overly sweet. The carne and chicken were both dry and tough. Only positives were the portion size and decor.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant is well known for the Mole.
Food is authentic and never disappoints. I really like the drinks too, they have a different horchata here. I love the menu. So good.
Be the first to ReplyComing from NYC, this is easily the best mole I've ever had.
Not too sweet, with perfect texture. I'm not even used to chips being served while we wait for our entrees! That was awesome since I was hungry long before we got seated. I also had a passion fruit margarita, which was delicious. I'm knocking down a star because the service was pretty slow, and I had to ask for water a few times before actually receiving it. That being said, I'll definitely be coming back for the food & vibes.
Be the first to ReplyBest Mole Coloradito you'll ever have.
Better food than in some places in actual Oaxaca or Mexico.
Be the first to ReplyThis place was good.
It wasn't the best mole I've had but it was good enough. I ordered the mole negro,, it came w white rice and a huge tortilla. The Molotes de Papa con Chorizo appetizer was very good! I'd get that again.Service was great! The mango margarita was okay.I'd definitely return try something else.

I can't believe I never wrote a review of Guelaguetza before, but we went 3 years ago , jut a bit before moving away .Fantastic food, cocktails and service ! The mole is really on point ; I had puerco mole negro . I also had a michelada and some superb mescal . I wish I could get back and I guarantee if I'm ever in LA again , I will , even if it's the only place I can go to.
Be the first to ReplyVentured off for breakfast and had some delicious Oaxacaña
Ventured off for breakfast and had some delicious Oaxacaña food at La Guelagetza Black Mole in Korea Town. Everything was delicious from the cafe de olla - a Black coffee, infused with cinnamon and piloncillo (dark brown sugar), if you know me you know I had to try the mole negro Amazing to say the least, it came with an enormous freshly handmade corn tortilla. Husband Black Molehad the huevos rancheros, the sauce had lots of flavor. I had to try their version of horchata, sooo good with bits of fruits and pecans. A must try if you are ready to be wowed! Happy Sunday Peeps!
Be the first to ReplySampled four delicious favors of mole.
We enjoyed the chicken in mole more than the pork, but loved the pork tacos. The chips they serve for free are also bomb. Will definitely be back. A mole lover's dream!!
Be the first to ReplyThis is the best black mole I have ever had.
The handmade tortilla is a must for dipping into the mole sauce. Every bite was perfection. The flavor explosion is nuts. Lucky I got to experience this place considering I drove over an hour to eat here. It was way worth it!! I LOVE BLACK MOLE.
Be the first to ReplyI've never had authentic Oaxacan food before.
So I was very curious. So I met some friends here. I love the fact that the cocktail menu was very mezcal friendly. I started with the Garra De Tigre. Claw of the tiger. It was delicious so I had to try another mezcal cocktail. Pasion De Oaxaca. After a few of those, feeling passion would be definitely an understatement. Instead of traditional chips and salsa you get corn chips with Coloradito mole. The mole was nice and a little sweet. I enjoyed it. My buddy ordered the Chapulines a la Mexicana. I looked at it and asked him, what the fuck is this?? Fried grasshoppers with jalapeno and garlic. They actually weren't bad. And my goat tacos were delicious. I really loved the stew that it came with. So full of flavor
