Mmmmmm good! Northern and southern Indian food.
Nice atmosphere, cozy, cute and wonderful service. Food is excellent - very tasty
Be the first to ReplyPhenomenal service and food.
Our eyes were opened to a whole new culture and cuisine and I cannot wait to try this again.
Be the first to ReplyWe had an outstanding meal at Gunpowder.
The presentation, flavors, and service were all outstanding. Cocktails - Kokum Martini and Bow Barracks Gimlet - were delicious. For food we had the softshell crab, the venison and vermicelli donut (!), Vindaloo pork chop and grilled pumpkin. Each one was very flavorful. For dessert, we had the Old Monk Rum Bread and Butter Pudding, a wonderful end to a memorable meal
Be the first to ReplyWhile I found a lot of the fine dining in London pretty
While I found a lot of the fine dining in London pretty subpar in comparison to NYC, Indian fare was the exception. Gunpowder is more of a modern take on Indian fare and it was one of our best meals in the UK. Located right in Tower Bridge, its in a newly developed area and the restaurant is swank, modern and clean. Reservations are a good idea and they'll require a deposit to hold the table so be prepared. The menu has a lot of familiar items dressed up for a more modern take (chicken tandoori, saag paneer, etc.) but the portions are more tapas size than a full entree. The flavors here are profound and really well done. Our meal spread didn't have any disappointments, it was all good. Service here is attentive and the staff here is excellent. If I'm going to gripe, the value isn't there since it's pretty pricey for the amount of food you get. If you want a good meal though, this place is a good bet to do right by you. Thumbs up.
Be the first to ReplyWe found this gem after sightseeing in London all morning.
What an oasis of calm. The atmosphere is mellow, the decor is beautiful and the service, especially from Denzel, was excellent. We ordered the beetroot courgettes which were beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious, then we had the saag paneer which is one of the best things I've ever tasted. We would have ordered more, but we were so perfectly satisfied we didn't need to. This is an outstanding find in a city of great restaurants. Highly recommended.

Simply delicious. No extra oil floating in dishes..... quick service. Staff was so respectful.
Be the first to ReplyGood lord this was amazing.
We had the 2 person 'feast' and added the venison donut and the lamb chops, which Gunpowder is famous for. Tremendous flavors and textures, all wonderfully presented and proportioned. This is a truly amazing Indian restaurant close to Tower Bridge. We finished with the toffee pudding and were not disappointed. Gunpowder is top end Indian cuisine, wonderfully prepared and served.
Be the first to ReplyYa, it's good.
Nouveau Indian style tapas. Don't ask for naan or anything here. For me, what makes this five stars is the following:- they accommodated our table of four on short notice- service was perfect- food was delicious- concept is great- inside is casual yet refinedWe ordered most of the menu, and every dish was incredible. The seabass, lamb chops and duck leg standout. Flavors on flavors on flavors!Menu changes I believe from what's on the website, but everything really is tasty.

The tandoori chicken and okra fries were spot on! Absolutely loved it. The hosts were excellent as well.
Be the first to ReplyI really liked the friendly and welcoming atmosphere given
I really liked the friendly and welcoming atmosphere given by servants and the interior! The restaurant is quite buzy, but with the interior arrangement the quantity of guests is somehow managed so that you feel comfortable! I loved the food, although i wouldn't say it's classic indian! Almost every dish i tried was somehow special! So if you are out for classic indian dishes this might be the wrong restaurant! Prices seem to be reasonable for the location and the quality of food! Its a nice place to go with friends!
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best things about visiting London is the Indian
One of the best things about visiting London is the Indian food. Found Gunpowder. Very hip and very good.. tried several dishes starting with aloo chaat, then the spicy venison doughnut and Maa's lamb chops. Portions are meant for sharing. Not small but not huge either. The flavors were well balanced as the aloo chaat helped cool the heat from the sauce from the venison and the pork. All were good but the balance made it great. I took a recommendation for desert and ordered the bread and butter pudding which was a perfect finish. The service was outstanding and considering the location (in the south bank shadow of Tower Bridge) the prices were very reasonable. As I sat and took it all in, it was amazing to watch the staff welcome in what I can only assume are regulars as if they were old friends they hadn't seen in years.I will absolutely be back.
Be the first to ReplyI think if you're going to do a "modern" take on Indian
I think if you're going to do a "modern" take on Indian food, you really have to hit it out of the park, otherwise people get upset that their favorite hearty cuisine is being done a disservice. Positives: It's in a great location, amazing walkable alley. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and the service was great. Immediately greeted and seated. Now for the meat of the review. I found the food to be a bit disappointing, not bad, per se, but I was not wowed. The aloo Chaat was a bit too sweet and I thought a little scant. The chicken was okay and I would say that the paneer was the highlight of the meal. Overall the portions are very small and I left feeling hungry. The dishes are served tapas style so they are small but still quite pricey! Also I was underwhelmed by the rice with the gunpowder. It was an interesting experience to try but I'm not sure it would be my first stop if I visit again.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious! Great ambiance, service and food.
I've eaten at Gunpowder a couple times and haven't been disappointed once. The Kale salad is amazing. Spicy mango margarita is yum too.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect end to our day at the Tower.
The best and most interesting and exciting Indian food that we've had in ages. Great ambiance, the tamarind margarita is to die for. Desserts are delicious.
Be the first to ReplyGunpowder serves up delicious Indian food in a refined
Gunpowder serves up delicious Indian food in a refined ambiance. We ordered from the fixed price multi-course menu for a large group. They brought us a variety of authentic and high-quality dishes, yet with a slightly modern take. For example, all our dishes were served without rice or bread, supposedly to let the meat or veggies themselves be the main attraction. Some of the chaats were also a bit fancier versus what one would really find in India. My primary complaint is that the dessert of a brownie a la mode was about as inauthentic as could be... But everything still tasted amazing. On the whole, the food was great, the service was friendly, and the overall experience was lovely.
Be the first to Replythis was a delicious upscale Indian restaurant.
We got the okra fries, chaat, and chicken tikka. Everything was delicious the only complaint is that it wasn't super spicy and they only spicy sauce they had was a mint chutney
