The best meal of my trip! Go here for flavorful down home food. The inside needs care and they didn't have enough staff for good service, but I highly recommend the food.
Be the first to Replynot too sure what the hype is about .
.. here are my reasons why. first off, i am from out of town and was expecting to have an amazing experience , especially since there have been a great deal of celebrities, politicians, etc. that have come to this establishment. it is clear that they must only have great food, service , and overall experience when "important people" come around. my family and i waited for more than an hour to receive our meals. although the waiter was kind, the wait and the food trumped his kindness. the food was inconsistently distasteful . we had a table of 9 people , so i understand that it will take some time to prepare all of the orders, but we shouldn't have received our food at different times. some people had fully cooked meat some didn't. the sides like the cabbage were extremely oily. the collard greens were not seasoned and didn't seem to be fully cleaned. the rice tasted like something out of an uncle bens packet. in that entire hour we only received refills on the water. i can only assume that was because there was one waiter waiting on everyone in the restaurant. after waiting more than an hour for your food, you would think that everything would be in perfect ... o and i forgot to mention that the bathrooms were absolutely atrocious ..you cannot mask a dirty bathroom smell with cheap scents ... it seems as if their focus was mainly on their to-go or online orders....this was an absolutely terrible experience ...
Be the first to ReplyI wanted old fashioned excellent soul food.
Boy did I get it. The service was hospitable and top notch by my waitress, Shalita. The ambiance was cozy. It was not warm enough to sit outside but the interior was fine. The music of Frankie Beverly and Maze played throughout my meal that added to the atmosphere. I ordered a whole sautéd flounder, okra soup, collard greens and cornbread. I was not disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyCrab fried rice!! substitute white rice with the red rice.
You will not be sorry. Also the corn bread is amazing.Very nice and attentive staff. Highly recommend if you're looking for really good soul food.

Wow! This place takes soul food to the next level!! Make sure to order the crab rice with shrimp and the famous okra stew. They do run out of things at the end of the night. But the portions are very generous and the staff is friendly. Hannibal's Kitchen has nice booths to sit inside, but take out is fast and just as delicious.

I should have read some reviews before going! Might have given 3 stars, but not right now. I want my money back!! I thought I was gonna have a good experience based on my chat with my server. (Didnt catch her name) Basically, i waited a good hour for ok food. I watched several people come and go. After about 30 mins of waiting, the server brought complimentary cornbread. I should walked out but I hungry and wanted to see what the hype was about... It wasnt worth the wait. My crab rice with shrimp taste like burnt crab and dried shrimp on top of Uncle Ben's rice. I had better shrimp at Toast!!! The greens were good at first, but the more i ate, the more burnt flavor i tasted in them too. The mac was ok. It was a bit watery and more like mac and cheese (two separate items) than mac & cheese. Feelin like maybe I shoulda got a pork chop or turkey wings. That was a waste of time AND money. $1 per shrimp.. smh. Irritated!
Be the first to ReplyJust felt like chicken & fish and ordered both.
They were both fried fresh & served hot. It wasn't seasoned as well as I expected but still satisfied the craving. I'm good.

One of the best fried chicken I've had since being in Charleston. Price was great. Service was great my favorite soul food spot in Charleston

Went for dinner last night and I'm so glad I did! The food, service, EVERYTHING was wonderful. I can't wait to go back. See y'all on Saturday. If you have not tried this place, you are missing out!!!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was just ok.
The collards were cooked too long. Soft with no flavor. The cornbread was jiffy. I saw the boxes when i parked next to the trash. The crab rice was average to me. Nothing special. The shrimp didn't make it better either. My daughter had the fried chicken quarter. Freshly fried. Seasoned well. The Mac and cheese was good and the yams sweet. Her meal was definitely better than mine.

After a long day of my mom's MUSC appointments, my family and I decided to have dinner at Hannibal's. It was just what the doctor ordered! First of all the ambiance, warmth (temperature), hospitality of the staff, and soulful music made it so inviting!! There was such a home feeling! Mom really has a southern palate so she ordered collards and rice with pigtails. it was right on time for her. I had the crab rice with shrimp and it was delicious. My daughter's fish and the Mac and cheese was delicious! We enjoyed everything about it! Our waitress was soooooo friendly and so accommodating. We definitely plan to return and have been telling everyone about our wonderful dining experience!
Be the first to ReplyHannibal's kitchen did not disappoint! I had their side
Hannibal's kitchen did not disappoint! I had their side dishes and cornbread all of which were delicious. My boyfriend had the pork chop with gravy, which he throughly enjoyed. Our waitress was very sweet and answered all our questions about the menu. The restaurant was super clean and comfortable. We will definitely be going back.

Always a great meal! Our waitress was so nice, I hate that I forgot to get her name. All staff was friendly! The atmosphere was nice and calm. They were busy, but I didn't feel as though anything was rushed. Crab rice is really good too! 10/10 recommend

The food is AMAZING! This is the simple, layered flavor, seasoned, soulful food of our ancestors and it does not disappoint. I love the original art on the walls. The staff is welcoming and very friendly. The facility is clean. I will visit this establishment as often as I visit the city of Charleston.

Heard about this location waited 15 min and still no drinks or customer service but saw my lighter hue brothers and sisters get great customer service do better Hannibal we wanna support black businesses but my experience was terrible
Be the first to ReplyGood food.
Better than average. Only had two people working so service is slow. Had the Turkey Wing, red rice and collards. No cornbread comes with meal. 18.50 so it's not exactly cheap.
Be the first to ReplyI learned about Gullah cuisine watching the excellent food
I learned about Gullah cuisine watching the excellent food series High on the Hog. I got take-out from here, they have online ordering. I got the crab rice and oxtails which were both delicious with a side of greens. There's such depth of flavor with amazing spices and flavor profile. Support black owned businesses!

Yum! My partner, visiting cousin, and I decided to try this place out after hearing good things about it! Parking is a challenge, but that's typical for downtown. Just something to keep in mind. You will get towed or get a ticket if you are parked where you aren't supposed to be. My cousin and I ordered the same meal lol. Fried leg quarters. Collards (the only veggie side item without pork) and the Mac and cheese. My partner ordered the fried whiting with red rice, Mac and cheese, and an additional side of green beans. We all really enjoyed our food! We didn't love the cornbread but this was truly based on a personal bias. Would go again and hoping to try the Turkey wings next time.
Be the first to ReplyFood was not worth the hype or price.
Wings were terribly dry. The crab fried rice was not tasty and presentation was even worse. Service was ok, but the wait was super long. Ambiance was not assessed because they don't have dine in seats.
Be the first to ReplyThe food might be amazing.
Unfortunately I have no idea...we walked in and were sat at a table relatively quickly, and then we sat there for the next 30 minutes waiting for someone to take our order. After finally reaching the point where I felt like I needed to flag someone down, I was promptly told that "they have other tables"5 minutes later we got up and left...didn't even have our drink order taken.
Be the first to ReplyFood is great.
...service and staff even better. Went there twice over a wknd stay in Charleston.
Be the first to ReplyIn Charleston for the day, and decided to visit Hannibal's
In Charleston for the day, and decided to visit Hannibal's for dinner. Well a note is pasted on the door saying "we're closing at 6 pm today reopening Jan 3". The door is ajar and we're yelling "hello". In comes Darryl. He was friendly and explained they're not open today, the note is a mistake. He then proceeds to ask the owner to make us some food. She made us some crab rice with grilled shrimp on the side. Needless to say the food was delicious. The company was friendly and very accommodating. Stop by, you won't regret it.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is definitely a local spot.
But, if you are not a local, you should go. The servers are very welcoming and attentive, the food is fabulous, the sweet tea is over the top.You will find home-cooked Southern comfort food here. For lunch you will eati out of Styrofoam containers, but you will lick your container clean. My husband had the smothered pork chop, With okra soup, and lima beans. The pork chop was tender, the gravy was lick your lips smacking good.I had the shrimp and rice, which did not disappoint. We went hungry, we left stuffed. We will definitely visit again.
Be the first to ReplyI have to be very careful.
This amazing place is around the corner from my house. I would eat here every day if I could. I mean I could but that would mean an entirely new wardrobe. Extra large clothes and such. My daughter and I visited this place the first day I arrived in my new city. I felt assured that I made the right decision to move here because this restaurant made me feel like I was finally HOME. Ok now for the food... I had the fried flounder. I had no idea it would be a WHOLE fish (minus the head for you cowards). I absolutely LOVE a whole fried fish if it's done well. And LAWD! It was done well. The signature crab rice cannot be described. Just get it. Ok what else. The collard greens!! Just like my mom's and aunties'. What else. OMG! The cornbread!! I could rave on for days!I loved that there was no salt or pepper on the table. That's what you call confidence. I heard some people ask for salt before they even tasted anything. UGH. I didn't even need hot sauce. Everything was perfectly seasoned to...well perfection. I'm bringing every single one of my guests here. Phenomenal.
