KOMI, COME BACK !!!
This was BY FAR the best DC restaurant for years and years. It has been operating as a carry out place for the the last 3 years or so and it is amazing still. But those of us who knew KOMI and appreciated the high quality of food and service, we are all waiting for its return as a full service restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyI’ve give less, but I can’t.
I’ve give less, but I can’t. We dined here a while back and for the price we paid we should have went elsewhere. Food was mediocre and our Server was no where to be found and when we asked what happened, they mentioned that they thought we wanted to be left alone...during a tasting menu?! What a cop out. Should have gone back to The Inn at Little Washington or Pineapples and Pearls!

For several years this has been our go-to restaurant to celebrate a once a year event, usually a birthday. The menu consists of a number ( maybe 20 ) of courses. Initially they are tiny bites growing in size and often shared with others at the table. The restaurant is often classified as “Greek” or “Mediterranean”, maybe because of chef Jonny Monis’ origins. But I have always found the food to be outstanding but difficult to nail down a type or origin. Two of us had the wine pairing while a third had a non alcohol pairing. Both were wonderfully paired to the dish served. And speaking of service, it was smooth and efficient, befitting a Michelin one star. The staff described each course and drink pairing as served. We never felt rushed nor did we feel neglected. Komi was outstanding long before Michelin discovered it and has not let fame alter its performance.

I haven’t been to Komi in years but it is still as impeccable as ever with the cuisine and service. The sommelier went above and beyond to help me find a wine closest to my preference and would occasionally bring a wine for me to taste with a specific dish (I was drinking red so he brought me a white with the seafood pasta).
I appreciate that the tasting portions were appropriate...the lamb entree was the largest and you weren’t too full for dessert. I can’t list a favorite dish because truly everything was delicious. Will remember to return more often now.
Please forgive the quality of photos...the lighting made it difficult.
Happy Gyro is Komi's vegetarian pop-up and it is equally terrific!
Our last visit to Komi was several years ago, but we do remember having a wonderful dinner experience. When we heard that they were doing a vegetarian tasting menu for the month of October called Happy Gyro we had to try it. I'm about 90% vegetarian, but my husband is not. This is a place everyone can eat wonderfully and leave satisfied.
This is a tasting menu with the first 6 or 7 courses served family style. Each one a flavorful explosion in your mouth. The last course is a choice between a "Gyro" or a filet o "fish". We both opted for the Gyro and it was amazing! It tasted even better than a meat filled Gyro!
The last course was a perfectly size ice cream sundae. You will not leave hungry despite the smaller sized portions at the beginning.
You must have a reservation. Highly recommend!
Interesting take on Mediterranean Cuisine
Komi’s chef focuses on taking standard Mediterranean cuisine and delivering fresh, unique, and flavorful morsels to your table. The staff was superb. The standout for me was the sommelier’s expert selection of wine that brought the food to life—well done.

The answer must be KOMI.
The food, the wine, the synchronicity of the service.
Is there a more enjoyable night out and about?
No.

My Mouth is So Happy!
My daughter is moving to Tanzania, Africa. Her foodie heart wanted an unforgettable Michelin experience. Komi did not disappoint!
The menu and the wine were absolutely amazing!
Komi Continues to Impress
My friend and I have been to Komi many times over the years, but had not been there in about two years. We made it back on Saturday. The meal was delicious. Each progressive taste and course was sublime. Highlights included a grilled amberjack collar which was succulent and tasty, a delicious pork ragu, and the most perfectly cooked goat. The goat's roasted golden color was as close to visual perfection as anything I have ever eaten. The taste even better-moist and flavorful. KUDOS across the board, since the front staff was uniformily superb without being overbearing. They were not only excellent with but very knowledgeable and friendly.

A relaxing dinner where we could put up our feet - food were all taken care of and we ordered wine pairing which offered a vast range of lesser known and exotic varieties of wine.
Chef prepared 5 to 6 small bites before our meaty mains. All dishes tasted good and were generous in portions. Dessert was great too but we were too full then. A good dining experience. Worthy to check it out if one have time to get off the beaten track.
