Great for a special occasion
We had an absolutely amazing evening at Hawksworth!! It was my husbands birthday and we did the Chefs Tasting Menu. Each dish was better than the last - and they have an extensive mocktail menu as well which we enjoyed. The service was by far the best Iāve seen, they did not feel overbearing but no need was met unmet at any point (as soon as you get up to use the bathroom for example your napkin is re-folded neatly on the table). Could not have been a better spot to celebrate our special occasion :)
Be the first to ReplyFun spot with great food and cocktails
Really nice vibe, feels like you are somewhere here. The service was good and the cocktails were fun. We had the lamb shank which through some wizardry had zero gamey taste and was fall off the bone perfectly cooked. The beef carpaccio is a must have as well. There was one pasta dish that was a bit of a fail, tasted like Mr. Noodles with a dollop of caviar on top. Their corkage fee is also quite high. Those two things aside this is still a strong 5/5 and we highly recommend and will be back.
Be the first to ReplyImpressed, delicious.
My long time friend and I were in town for a concert and wanted to fancy up our dinner. We made reservations about three weeks in advance for this beautiful restaurant. Upon arrival our coats were checked, and we were seated in a beautiful and warm dining room. We decided to do the tasting menu with the wine pairing, I believe the tasting menu changes either monthly or bi monthly. The portions were generous for a tasting menu, the wine was paired perfectly. We commented on every glass we were served because of how well it complimented the food. Service was impeccable, the staff took time to ensure you were enjoying the meal. I will be returning to Hawksworth on my next trip to Vancouver for sure. This is a restaurant worth visiting again and again.
Be the first to ReplyDefinite Contender for Amazing Bar
Letās be blunt; we came here for the astonishing happy hour deal and experienced a delightful team, a pleasant space, great drinks and delicious food options. Most of the write ups on this space focus upon the delightful dining room, which did have a lovely overall feel. Since we were there pre dinner on both occasions we visited, the dining room was quiet and the bar was full and busy. Even so, we were able to hold a conversation at normal voice levels and got great attention and charming bar tenders still focused upon crafting lovely drinks albeit at a great value. I did not try the gorgeous looking burger but did sample other delights including those cocktail friendly oysters! Def put this one on your list as a great option for early drinks and either retire to the full dining room or try another great restaurant in the area. You wont be disappointed. And then there is that lovely Damien Hirst to keep your eyes busy.

Every once in a while you come across a āgemā and this place fits the bill - on all accounts. They have found the absolute sweet spot when it comes to modern, classy, fine dining without the pretentious, stuffy, formal atmosphere you find in some other top end restaurants. Our waiter Vinny and the sommelier Cameron could not have been better. If you want an outstanding experience with a modern west coast twist then this is your place.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing experience for the price.
DISAPPOINTED. The main dining area was far too loud to be considered "fine dining" (beside a bar and TV airing football). Food tasted mediocre at best and portions were woefully small, especially for the price! The staff were lukewarm and their service could be improved upon. Never again, would not recommend.
Be the first to ReplyReally? Top-rated fine dining? Oh Vancouver!!!
It is hard to fathom that this is still considered one of Vancouver's finest dining spots. We ordered drinks to start and 2 of 3 arrived, called the maitre d' over after 10 minutes and could see just behind her the 3rd drink being brought out. Why would the waiter not wait until the full order was ready to bring the drinks??? Our server was pleasant though not particularly "trained" for fine dining, asking by interruption too often "how is everything?" but ultimately not seeing some MAJOR problems at the table. The food: lovely fresh salad served on seriously too small a plate so pieces were falling off every time a mouthful was ventured. Quality was good though. Next, 1 person's main course arrived and the sauce was served at the table and then nothing, no one, at least 10 minutes with nothing and no one coming to the table to explain why only 1 of 3 entrees was being served, finally server came and we asked to speak to the maitre d'. Server apologized saying they would take the 1 entree back and make all 3 anew (you think??). Maitre d' never arrived to handle the situation, waiter offered a round of drinks on her only we were having a bottle of not inexpensive wine... After a while all 3 entrees arrived together, only the one which had been whisked away was obviously re-served and it was cold, mine was SO SALTY and really kind of pathetic few scallops with charred cauliflower and a SALTY, SALTY bedding of who knows what but SALT. The 3rd entry was okay. Fearful of another debacle if dessert was ordered we skipped dessert. They comped the wine, which was as it should be, fine, but seriously we won't be back...
Be the first to ReplyA SPECIAL PLACE!!
This is a wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion! We went to celebrate a major milestone birthday and had an amazing meal and experience! The courses were all works of art! Every course was beautifully plated and needed to be photographed! Eating each of them was just as amazing! And the wine pairings matched perfectly and topped off a very special meal and celebration! We would definitely go again and highly recommend Hawksworth!

It had been a few years since Iād visited this restaurant. Our group started the evening off upstairs at reflections rooftop - a fun, inviting spot! At Hawksworth, we were greeted warmly and checked out coats. Service thought out the evening was perfection - Bertrand is engaging, knowledgeable and the epitome of professional. The room is sleek and elegant. I started with the passion cocktail - delicious! My challenges with this dinner started and ended with the food itself. My starter was the squash and apple plate - a study in contrast - crisp and soft, tart and sweet, etc. it reminded me of a one bite amouse bouche that was stretched to a starter course (see photo). My main? Steak - great quality meat - perfectly cooked and rested. Just so small. Maybe 3 ounces? All six of us - including some smaller eaters, left hungry. While I appreciate the innovation, great service, attention to detail and high quality ingredients - just canāt get behind dropping that much cash and leaving essentially hungrier than when I stepped through the doors.
Be the first to ReplyA must place to have lunch or dinner
This is my favourite restaurant in Vancouver because of the always terrific service and the great food. The location is great and easily accessible. I like the environment, cosey but not crowded. Noise is not an issue so you can have conversations. We had the three course lunch which was fantastic and so reasonable. Looking forward to my next visit there!
Be the first to ReplyVery Nice..... except for the Noise Level
Despite an excellent meal, interesting wines, very good service, and a lovely interior, only three stars. Why? The noise level. There is no reason that people need to effectively shout in order to have a conversation with either the staff or their dining partner. We will be very happy to return when we can carry on a conversation at a reasonable level.
Be the first to ReplyThanks for the great service Tom and Joshua!
Excellent service in the bar from Joshua and Tom! They took such good care of us and make excellent wine suggestions. Thank you both!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Service - Overrated Food
Drinks and service were definitely the star of the show. Our waiter and the entire team made our experience great. The drinks were amazing. The menu was not that inviting for mains and everything came out room temperature which was very disappointing. I have eaten all of the world and at many 5* restaurants, second time here and 2nd time disappointed. I would skip Hawksworth for dinner and maybe have a appy and drink. Nightingale would be a better choice.
Be the first to ReplyGreat time, amazing staff!!
We went here to surprise a friend for her birthday. The staff are incredible. We arrived early and all staff were made aware of the surprise, they disgusted it at the front desk by telling my friend and her husband it was a booking for 2, and they made sure we knew when they arrived-just fantastic. For the price I was slightly disappointed with my meal, the venison, I found the spice crust too over powering and I didnāt love it as much as I wanted to. However, the cocktails were very unique and the whole table enjoyed trying a bunch! I would definitely return and try other dishes!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing staff, food and atmosphere
Walking distance to many of the best hotels in Vancouver, upscale shopping and great nightlife. Sophisticated entrance and staff, good sized bar and large dining area. Great lighting, really sets the tone for the entire meal. Very well trained staff, nice menu and an excellent wine cellar. The service is crisp and polite, nothing but praise for the work ethic and knowledge they have. Our meals were delivered in good time, enough to have our conversations at the table. Everything was delicious, in fact larger portions than we had expected. Truly a great evening, great food and great wine.
Be the first to ReplyNo, no Michelin star
They didn't get their star and they're unhappy, but two points: (1) On our half-dozen visits over the last several years, we have consistently noticed that the quality of the wait staff just doesn't measure up to the ambitions of the restaurant. Careless, peremptory, not that well turned out. (2) At their prix-fixe Christmas Day dinner, we would have been happier if we hadn't had to send the main courses, after a long wait for them, back to the kitchen to be reheated.
Be the first to ReplyTerrific food, phenomenal staff!!
The food was really delicious. But the staff took our dining experience to the next level. They were amazing, and the whole atmosphere was just lovely. We will be back!
Be the first to ReplyNot at all as we remembered.
After having some wonderful meals in past years, we invited friends out for dinner and drove into Vancouver. Incredibly slow service and no one seemed too concerned. We were told a lot of people came at once. No effort to keep us placated with a bread basket or kind word. It was very loud so we couldnāt even chat to pass the time. Very hungry and frustrated, we enjoyed the food other than a dreadful rapini but couldnāt wait to leave. So sorry to see this once top notch institution has gone downhill.

Excellent food , great wine list and incredible staff. Vancouver is a great this and this dinner was icing on the cake, just wonderful
Be the first to ReplyGreat Meal - a little pretentious for me
We ate at this restaurant during our stay in Vancouver at the Hotel in which its located. Tough reservation to get into, even staying at the hotel. I'm not looking to rush a great meal, but service was slow as it seemed they had a hard time keeping up. It took quite some time to get a glass of wine. Food was amazing - we had the Halibut and Sablefish - very worth the wait. Desserts were even better - we had the Tangerine Cake and the Praline Bar - I would say the best dessert we had on our 9 day trip. I give it 5 stars for food, but I found the atmosphere and staff a bit snobby. I'm not a fan of feeling like I should be lucky to eat at somewhere - that's the vibe it gave to me. Also not cheap with the Sablefish entre at nearly 60 CAD.
Be the first to ReplyA highlight
Excellent all around. We considered this dinner a highlight of our Vancouver visit. Great service and delicious food. The cocktails were excellent. We spoke about how much we enjoy this dinner our entire two week visit to western Canada.
Be the first to ReplySuperb Dinner
Have not been able to visit for three years because of COVID and eagerly awaited our return. We were delighted. Decor is unchanged and perfect for fine dining. Sound level is peaceful. General manager Amber has been there for many years, having started as a busser 11 years ago. Her warmth and knowledge were excellent. Our server Birgitta quickly took care of all of our requests. Wine specialists Chen and Cameron were affable and helpful. Chen really put great thought into her pairings and it showed.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious lunch experience
We enjoyed a delicious lunch at Hawksworth restaurant after a morning of sightseeing. Recommend to make a reservation in advance. Sampled the highly TripAdvisor-recommended KFC (Korean fried cauliflowerā¦light, savoury, neat!) and lunch prix fixe - confit duck taco (tasty), braised beef with lobster and scallop add-ons (so incredibly tender, recommend the add-ons!) and tres leches (perfect way to cap the meal). Service was prompt, detail-oriented and courteous; we felt well taken care of with a nicely paced meal and were in/out in 75 mins. (with a toddler!). We enjoyed our dining experience and would recommend it.
Be the first to ReplyGood food but service not to great
The experience was terrible. One of the servers ( his name is Erick) wasnāt interest it in our table, splash all the table with water, didnāt care for our questions so the only thing that was good enough was the food, but even if you have an awesome food at the end of the night a poor and lame service can make the whole evening terrible.
Be the first to ReplyNot for me, but David is a passionate chef and a gentleman
I returned to Hawkworth for the 3rd (and probably last) time today. To their credit, the staff recognized me as the author of a very critical review written after my last visit, which I've since deleted. EC David Hawksworth came out to introduce himself and discuss my prior review. He said he and his staff felt insulted by my prior review, but he was a perfect gentleman about it and acknowledged that some of my criticism were not without legitimate basis. I'm quite passionate about food but admittedly a bit eccentric in that I take great offense when chefs compromise taste for the sake of presentation. A Michelin star is actually a red flag for me, so my taste is clearly not typical. David and his staff are doing a fabulous job of giving most fine dining patrons exactly what they want. Every dish is visually enticing and almost anyone would have an "Oh, wow!" reaction. The food is not to my taste at all, but like I said, I have a pet peeve about undue emphasis on presentation at the expense of taste, and it's still my opinion that this restaurant is guilty of that. Most people will love it.
