Amazing service and great food! Highly recommend!
We ended up eating here twice during our stay because the food was so good! The traditional salad may be the best salad I have ever had. All the food is high quality and the match stick fries are addictive! A little pricey but worth every penny because of the quality service and fresh food. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyGreat experience !
My coworker and I decided to try this location because we weren’t happy with service at the Park ave site. We were able to use the wait list online for this location and were seated quickly. Lizzy, our server was amazing and attentive! We will be back!! Happy holidays
Be the first to ReplyMost unwelcoming and unpleasant experience
My mother and I were in town for the day and saw there was a Hillstone near by. We have dined at Houston’s in Boca Raton, Florida (for over 15 years), Hillstone in Coral Gables, Florida, and Woodmont Grille in Bethesda, Maryland. We love the Hillstone group. Safe to say we are huge Hillstone group fans. Unfortunately, the experience we had today when we came in for lunch around 2:30pm was far worse than unpleasant. Upon approaching the hostess stand (as walk-ins), we were told by the hostess, who had blonde hair - younger lady - that the wait would be 30-35 minutes. Understandable wait time given it was still still lunch time. It should be noted that about half the dining room had empty tables. Of course, we assumed those were reserved for customers with reservations. At the time of our arrival, there were about three parties ahead of us. Those parties were all sat before us. When all those parties were sat, it was just my mother and I waiting for a table, and we were next on the list to be sat. While we were waiting, 3 or 4 more parties came in after my mother and I (as walk ins). three of those walk-ins were sat within 15 minutes - BEFORE my mother and I. As I stated above, my mother and I were the only ones waiting for a table after the parties ahead of us were sat. After about 30 minutes, my mother asked for an update on how much longer it would be until we were seated, to which she received a response, “about 10-15 minutes.“ After 45 minutes total of waiting, I approached the hostess stand and asked for an update on when we’d be seated. I was told by the hostess that there were two other walk-ins in front of us, and that it would be “about 10-15 minutes.” After a full hour of waiting to be seated, after being told there was a wait time of 30-35 minutes, I stated, “you said 10-15 minutes 15 minutes ago?” The hostess smirked and said that one of the staff left their shift early so they are unexpectedly down a person. I understand being short-handed on staff, however, this was simply not the case here. 3 walk-ins (who came in well after my mother and I did) were sat before us. On top of that, we were being given the same song and dance for an hour and lied to by the hostess - specifically, that there were still two walk ins ahead of us, when we were the only people waiting at the time! I asked to be removed from the list and the hostess smirked at me, did not apologize, did not try and make things right. Extremely disappointing and does not meet the standards a customer expects when dining at a Hillstone restaurant. This experience left such a horrible taste in my other and I’s mouth (loyal Hillstone group customers), and we will not be returning any time soon due to this terrible experience.
Be the first to ReplyThe worst restaurant experience of our lives
My husband and I had a reservation for 4 on Monday, November 14. Our friends arrived after we had been seated with a fifth guest. They had tried to call to change the reservation to 5 earlier in the day but were on hold two times, once for half an hour, and no one came back. We were already at the booth, big enough for at least 6, when they arrived. A waitress came to take drink orders, at which time the General Manager appeared at our table and ordered us to leave immediately because we had 5 people. We tried reasoning with him, even offering to get a second table to split up, and he told us we would have to wait an hour. My husband explained we recommended the restaurant since we had been coming to Houston's and Hillstone's across the country in various locations for 40 years! At this point we heard a commotion and realized they had they had called the police. We were left on the cold street with no reservation. Forty years of great food and experiences destroyed by an overly rigid and uncaring management.
Be the first to ReplyWouldn’t Accept a Family of (Five)
So I booked for 4 people and came as 5 because the online booking wouldn’t accept a reservation for more than 4. (3 of our group were young children). We were turned away as they said they don’t accept parties over 4 people (even though the restaurant was 1/2 empty). My wife and me had been going to Hillstone for over 10 years and couldn’t believe how little flexibility they made for a family. We went on a Saturday also which is why it was quiet and didn’t think it would be a problem. After over a decade of loyalty - I wouldn’t go back and would warn families in advance of how family unfriendly this restaurant is. If we were a group of (4) 300Lb men looking to drink cocktails and eat they would have been more than happy to accompany. But even with a reservation made well in advance they couldn’t accommodate 3 children under 12 with their mom and dad. Horrible Management (Sam)
Be the first to ReplyAmazing service
As a big fan of the chain, their location in midtown was no exception. The staff was absolutely great specially Kate our waitress, she took great care of us !
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed
My partner and I have book Hillstone whenever we’re in NY , but over the last few visits I’ve noticed standards are slipping, we have always loved the food and the atmosphere and the overall experience, but for the last couple of visits it didn’t quite match up , We were told to dress smartly only to find people were wearing baseball hats and shorts, service was slow , at the next table a four year old was jumping on the seat and screaming, much to its parents delight , They got our food order wrong , and without apology, they charged us the full amount. The menu is good, and the sushi is excellent, But as we left the restaurant we said this would be our last time. This restaurant could be so much more, with the right management. P
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely recommend the ribs!
Fabulous atmosphere from the outset, very friendly staff, good wines, excellent ribs (we both had them!) and an overall truly pleasurable evening.
Be the first to ReplyOne of my rare excellent ratings
My husband I were staying at the Fitzpatrick Hotel on Lexington and were looking for a restaurant within an easy walk from the hotel to have dinner. My search led me to the Hillstone Midtown. From the minute we walked in we were made to feel welcome. The service and attention of the entire staff was amazing. We both enjoyed our meals so much, that we decided to return one more time - we were only in the city for one week. Our second experience was just as good as the first.
Be the first to ReplyWe’ll definitely be back!
I called at around 5:30 PM for a 6:30 Friday night reservation but the hostess said she could not confirm a reservation at that time, but if we walked in a bit earlier we could possibly be seated. We arrived at 6:10 and got a table immediately. The decor of the restaurant is striking and elegant. Every server and staff member we encountered were welcoming and very efficient. Every single dish was wonderful. We started with deviled eggs ($9 for three), then had the daily fish special of blackened Arctic char topped with crumbed and fried shrimp and served with delicious cole slaw ($34), a Caesar salad ($18), rotisserie chicken ($34), and a prime filet mignon cooked perfectly medium rare served with mashed potatoes and broccoli ($59). Our drinks were a glass of New Zealand Clos Henri Sauvignon Blanc ($14) and a bottle of Marietta Zinfandel ($45). There was only one Zinfandel on the wine list but it was not the Marietta. I pointed this out to our server and it would have been nice if our server had noticed that and pointed it out to us, but it’s likely the bartender didn’t mention the substitution to her. It didn’t really matter because we enjoyed the Marietta. We will definitely return here on our next visit to Manhattan.
Be the first to ReplyGreat lunch
Dark, wood panelled clubby, sophisticated atmosphere - and that was at lunchtime. Loved the menu and had great sushi and tuna salads. Attentive, professional service. Had a great lunch.
Be the first to ReplyLOVE LOVE LOVED IT
How did I not know about Hillstone before? I feel like I've been missing out. I visited on Sunday January 9th for a 430 dinner. It was incredible. The hostess was welcoming. Our waitress, Amanda, was delightful, was able to answer questions about the menu, and was very accommodating.
For drinks we had
Modern, trendy restaurant in central Manhattan
The menu is centred around mainly sushi for starters and then a variety of western and Asian fusion mains, from ribs and burgers to tuna tataki salads. Food was delicious, we ordered two sushi dishes to share to start and then each had the tuna tataki salads. Portions are generous and flavours are delicious. We stopped here for a late lunch and the restaurant was busy with customers sitting down from our arrival until we left around 4. Recommend for a trendy restaurant with modern, Asian-fusion cuisine.
Be the first to ReplyNICE VIBE GOOD SUSHI
Came to Hillstone after visiting the dentist (chris)
We also went to see the tree
The sushi was excellent as we had rainbow and tuna.
the spinach appetizer was very good. Kathy's burger was not that good and not cooked fully. The ribs were the highlight. excellent fall of the bone.
fries were cold. Lauren the server was good.
Amazing service and excellent food
Hillstone remains to be one of my favorite restaurants. The service is unparalleled. The attention to details and attentiveness is difficult to find these days. From the moment you get seated till you leave, you are pampered. Food is served and removed without delays. The waitress materialize every time you feel you need some attention as if they predict or watch the table without you noticing it. Can’t talk enough about the service. Even during Covid, service remains to be at the same level.
As for the food, it is just perfect. I love every dish I ordered since I started going to hillstone. Sushi and fish is so fresh. Steaks and burgers are cooked to perfection and the salads/appetizers are all wonderful.
I'm officially over this place
I've been enjoying Houston's (now Hillstone) for decades. After my last visit over the weekend, I'm in no hurry to go back. Yeah, the prices have never stopped ticking up, but I justified it with their really good food. But ya know what? The dip is good, but what's with purposely giving too few chips every single time? They got rid of the chicken fingers. They got rid of the honey mustard that I loved. There used to always be a solid wait at Houstons - on Saturday, there were plenty of empty tables. I'm clearly not the only one who thinks they've lost their edge.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing End
Tasty food, generous prices, competitive pricing, and attentive service. The only challenge we had in our meal was when it came to dessert. While we realize that restaurants have had to reduce offerings, they have not. They had a regular offering of specials. But, back to dessert. Hillstone had two offerings: one magnificently rich hot fudge sundae and another key lime pie. No mindfulness of those who are concerned with sugar intake. Further, will Hillstone ever bring back decaffeinated coffee? Is decaf coffee that expensive to purchase and the customer appeal low? They did not even have decaf cappuccino. We had to settle for tasteless decaf tea. A disappointing end to a great meal.
Be the first to ReplyOur favourite place in Manhattan !
This place is the best ! The food is great as well as the service. The Spinach & Artichoke Dip, the barbecue ribs and the cheeseburger are a must !
Love the atmosphere - prior to covid there was live music every night. Cocktails are very good as well. We just keep coming back...
Awsome lunch in cosy jazz atmosphere
Awsome lunch in cosy jazz atmosphere. Great lunch with lots of options. Great service. Nice hide away in busy Manhattan.
Be the first to ReplyYour plate will be gone before your meal is....
Let me give you a truth of the universe ... not everyone eats a meal at the same rate. So check with your party - make sure everyone is going to finish their order at the same time - or else their the plates of the faster eaters will vanish while the slower eater - or eaters - are trying to hold down their "tents" while the winds blow everything off the table. This is ridiculous, rude, unnecessary and clearly designed to turn tables. This sucks. So tonight, I couldn't finish my meal - every plate on the table was cleared, intimidated, I gave my dinner up and respectfully complained. A big "sorry" this is company policy ... but a "free sunday dessert". Guess what? I don't eat dessert. I don't want a sunday. I completely reject the gesture. You know what I wanted? My dinner. Reserved for. Expensive. And uninterrupted by your company policy.
