Hiyakawa is a truly amazing experience from beginning to end. Highly elevated in all aspects: service, food and ambiance. Definitely the best sushi in Miami as each piece melts in your mouth! Obviously rice is the most important and the rice here is perfection. My boyfriend and I feel so welcomed here! Luis, both Miguels, Chef Royce and Chef Masayuki are amazing and are at the door to say good night as we leave. It's unlike any other restaurant I've ever been to.
Be the first to ReplyAn omakase EXPERIENCE.
My friends took me out for a birthday dinner and we came on a Sunday evening. Not much can make me come out to Miami but this sushi sure can. From the service to the quality of fish, everything was five stars. I came with three friends and we ended up getting a sake bottle compliment our courses for dinner. We just ordered a bottle recommended by the chef and it did not disappoint, although it did hurt our wallets. The courses were all great and the chef was super personable and walked us through each course. The interior of the restaurant itself was a thing of beauty! Overall a five star experience and great for special occasions.

Went for The omakase dinner, everything was incredible, the quality of the fish was 10/10
Be the first to ReplyCame in on a Thursday for the omakase experience.
Overall for the price point, they are lacking in service and attention. The fish fresh and delicious, but nothing out of this world. I would probably come back but not for the omakase experience. The ambiance was nice and lively for a Thursday.
Be the first to ReplyBest sushi in Miami! We loved everything.
Food is amazing. We ordered sake and went with the full experience so ordered the set menu and it was phenomenal! Service was fast, friendly but professional. Ambience is cosy, cute, and homie. Def going back tohiyakawa!
Be the first to ReplyThis was an incredible experience.
Food was delicious and service was 10/10. I have severe food allergies and Miguel the manager was incredibly accommodating. He was knowledgeable and ensured I was able to dine safely without feeling conspicuous. Definitely go here if you are looking for good food, good service and great atmosphere!
Be the first to ReplyTOP-TOP-TOP!!! The best sushi I've ever had in Miami.
Hidden gem in Winwood , no sign , no fancy-fake atmosfere , few tables , you can enjoy a really superb sushi , and an ex-ce-llent! service. (don't miss the scallop)
Be the first to ReplyThis Japanese restaurant is truly in a league of its own
This Japanese restaurant is truly in a league of its own when it comes to authenticity and freshness. Their commitment to serving only the freshest fish is unparalleled - no frozen fish here! They source their ingredients daily and go to great lengths to ensure the utmost safety and quality. The service is nothing short of excellent, with a staff that's not only friendly but also incredibly attentive to your needs. The restaurant itself maintains a consistently neat, clean, and inviting ambiance. If you're seeking an authentic Japanese dining experience in Miami, look no further - this place is a true gem.

We came in not very hungry, after having had a large lunch, but after eating everything we ate we realized we could've kept eating just to try every flavor and texture. The ingredients were rich and it felt very authentic. We ordered the seasonal specials, the Ebi Tempura (shrimp tempura) and the steamed salmon. The dessert was a Yuzu Sorbet and a Black Sesame Sorbet. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Miami , but book in advance because it fills up!
Be the first to ReplyThis place was great.
My wife and I went for the Omakase tasting menu. The ingredients and fish tasted extremely fresh and filled with flavor. The Sardine Nigiri melted on your tongue. Uni was of perfect temperature and pure silky goodness. Chefs were friendly and professional. The place filled up nicely and ambiance remained chill. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyProfessional service beginning from entry to sushi counter.
If you enjoy quality and the freshest ingredients, I recommend. I read some dumbass comments targeting the 'brightness' of the restroom..yeah..I was unencumbered and didn't have that opinion at all. I'd like to highlight on the chefs and their intricate professional skills. Every dish refreshing, perfect portion and thoughtfully curated with the most palatable taste. Aside from Hiyawaka's food, every staff member was friendly and made you feel welcomed. I left satisfied
Be the first to ReplyI wanted to love it but I am disappointed after spending so
I wanted to love it but I am disappointed after spending so much money at Hiyakawa. As others have noted in their reviews, the food was good but not THAT $$$$ good. I have lived in Japan and had several Japanese dining experiences there and in the US, in several ranges of style and price. This place is trying to be and do a lot of things but in the end just felt overbearing, alienating and overpriced. Why the soy sauce brushes? Black sesame ice cream was chocolate ice cream (too hard) with a few black sesame seeds on top. I guess dessert is not the main attraction but at those prices shouldn't have been such a miss. Having Japanese named things on the menu without a written English (or Spanish lol) explanation is unnecessarily pretentious and does nothing in the way of "tradition". Bathrooms are too bright. I will continue my search for real Japanese food in Miami. I am thinking I'll try Azabu next?
Be the first to ReplyAs very avid sushi lovers, my wife and I were excited to
As very avid sushi lovers, my wife and I were excited to try Hiyakawa. We specifically like traditional sushi which is dressed and presented as nigiri. As the rating shows - we both thought that the food is just OK. The positive highlights would be the design of the space and the service. Both are excellent. Unfortunately, the food is outrageously priced and falls well short of expectations. Compared to other local sushi restaurants such as Uchi, Itamae, and Scratch - Hiyakawa is not worth a repeat visit. My wife and I ordered a lot of the nigiri on the menu (see photo). The server brings you soy sauce and a brush to season the fish as you like. I personally didn't care for this and wish that the sushi chefs would already dress the fish as they see fit. When you charge $25 for a single piece, I would expect the fish to be dressed and have a flavor profile. Unfortunately, no sushi piece really stood out and there's nothing original here. Yes, they import the fish directly from Japan but today that's table stakes for any high-end sushi restaurant. Overall - the food here is OK but definitely not worth the price. You have a lot better options.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the most traditional and delicate sushi and omakasa
One of the most traditional and delicate sushi and omakasa experiences. They focus on quality and the restaurant is spectacular. Chef Masa is a master and one of the original SushiDen Japan chefs.
Be the first to ReplyHands down the best authentic Japanese cuisine in Miami.
Miguel 1 and Miguel 2 were amazing servers and hosts as well as the chefs! No California rolls here so don't bother coming here if you want Americanized sushi. Beautiful ambiance and experience. Highly recommended!
Be the first to ReplyWe've been to many Omakase experiences in Miami, as well as
We've been to many Omakase experiences in Miami, as well as other major cities. Hiyakawa is the standard to beat for Japanese and Omakase in Miami. We've been 3 times now and it continues to knock it out of the park on each occasion. The food is phenomenal, with the highest quality fish and Wagyu you can find, and everything expertly platted. But as good as the food is the service is consistently the best I've ever seen in Miami. Every staff member is attentive and meticulous. They take their craft seriously and have a standard of excellence I've rarely seen outside of Japan itself. Every single time at Hiyakawa has been a fun and memorable experience in every aspect. Huge props to the team for 2 years of excellence now. As someone who has been to many of the new Michelin star restaurants in the city, there's no reason Hiyakawa doesn't deserve the same level of recognition. It's a perfect date night experience, and the energy and atmosphere is always fantastic. Looking forward to visit #4 as well as trying the new location and concept coming to Little River, Ogawa.
Be the first to ReplyAn exceptional, elegant omakase experience.
I caught a ride to the restaurant as parking in the area seemed limited to nonexistent. I would have appreciated some dedicated parking. Once inside you can sense a lot of care and effort went into the modern, intimately lit design. They have a small number wait / lounge area as we got there a few minutes early. After a few minutes they were ready for us at the main chef table bar. I'd frame it as semi-selective. You share the space with a few other diners (not too many) but are facing the chef preparation area. Other omakases I've visited have a more private area, which is something I think is a nice feel. Still, semiprivate worked in this design. Outside of that, the food was simply phenomenal. The chef was friendly and clearly loved what he did. Ingredients fresh and uniquish. They had great service and otherwise paid good attention and were as accommodating as possible for food allergies. If the opportunity arises, I would return in a heartbeat. My two favorites included the caviar scallop sushi as well as the hand roll. Wow the sushi is fresh. Two additional notes: I felt they gave enough food to be satisfied. I also don't think they cut corners with quality or quantity. For example, they had a high quality uni (sea urchin) and were generous with this delicacy not stingy. This was incredibly welcome as some other omakases leave you too hungry after, which is head scratching for such an expensive experience. Second, if you order sake, you're in for a nice surprise... they have such beautiful ceramics throughout and they bring out a selection of cups for you to choose. After factoring ambiance, service, food quality, food portions, plating, chef friendliness as well as staff attentiveness and some bonuses, I'd say this omakase is worth it if it's under your consideration.
Be the first to ReplyI would give more stars if we did lunch here, mostly
I would give more stars if we did lunch here, mostly because the atmosphere fits a lunch scene. The decor inside is beautiful, but for a nice dinner the lights were too bright and the music (if there was any) was overpowered by the conversations happening around us. It sounded like we were at a cafeteria at 9:30pm. The food was okay, I've had better sushi roles in different areas of miami. If you do wind up here, the lamb chops paired with a mushroom dish was very good. In addition to the rolls and lamb chops, we had a plate of raw fish, shrimp tempura, the scallop and tomato salad, edamame, and a dessert. The dessert was fruit that tasted like cantaloupe and then some fruit compote made of cantaloupe, it was interesting for lack of better words but I wouldn't order it again. It wasn't very filling for a group of four. They also only serve wine and sake. We finished two bottles of wine and had some sake, and even then we left feeling hungry. The service was absolutely spectacular! Miguel was very knowledgeable and such a fun vibe!I would go back for lunch if they served lunch, however don't see myself going back there for date night.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is one of the best sushi places that I have ever
This place is one of the best sushi places that I have ever tried! Honestly, I have tried a good amount of omakase in NYC and this is maybe my top 1 or 2 sushi restaurant. First of all, the quality of fish and how they create each dish (appetizers, sushi, soup, dessert) are on the point. Their appetizers were not something I could try at any Japanese restaurants. I could tell that the chef really took his time to study and created the menu by himself. Every sushi we had was so fresh and rice was not too vinegary or too moist. I hate when a chef uses too much rice for a sushi, but the chef at Hiyakawa gives the adequate amount of rice which doesn't make me too full. Appetizers awakened my taste buds and the dessert was so good; I am a big fan of matcha and their matcha pudding was so delicious. Staff were so friendly and their service was exceptional! They fulfilled customer's needs even before we ask for it. We really enjoyed our dinner and this omakase was a highlight of our trip in Miami. Thank you Chef and all staff! We will definitely revisit you!
Be the first to ReplyBest sushi experience in Miami.
Ambiance is amazing, service is top-notch, saki selection is superb and sushi is absolutely divine.
Be the first to ReplyThe tuna is good quality.
The atmosphere and decor is nice. The tea isn't a good flavor, was made way too strong. The service is mediocre considering the two servers assigned per table:1. They only offer warm towels to the Omakase customers2. They served us cold A5 Wagyu, and barely apologized for serving us an awful $20 bite.3. We had to ask a few times for more soy sauceFor a restaurant in this price range a much more attentive service is expected. Makoto in Bal Harbour has same quality ingredients for a much lesser charge and a much better service if you are looking for good quality sushi along with good service in the area...

In March 2020, I was supposed to go to Japan for cherry blossoms and sushi. Well, that didn't happen. But tonight, this 17-course omakase dinner made me look forward to the the day I actually get to go. Amazing matcha, sushi, sashimi, chawanmushi, and wagyu wonderfully plated and presented. Definitely give this place a try if you're ever in Miami! Book the chef's counter to talk to Royce (9 yrs a sushi chef) and Masa (20 yrs a sushi chef). Combined, their sushi knowledge is older than I am!Friendly staff, great service, delicious food, beautiful space. Can't ask for any more.
Be the first to ReplyThe omakase here is delicious.
Atmosphere is nice. My only problem is they don't accept reservations over 4 people, and they make absolutely no exceptions.Uni tastes like peanut butter *drool*
