I found a variety of oysters in each country.
It's clearly different and very fresh. The service was excellent. I was 2nd in line, didn't wait long, the weather was good. Can't wait to be back and hope I'll find some girl-sized swag to buy the next time.
Be the first to ReplyPricey, but delicious food.
Portion sizes seemed to have gone down, but they remain consistently delicious. Service is good. Chowder is one of my favorites. Fish had a nice, flavorful and crispy batter that didn't feel super heavy. Can't go wrong with old bay fries! Ask for bread and butter. It's so good! Something to note - they don't seat until the whole party is present.
Be the first to ReplyWell worth it.
Bought delicious oysters as my contribution to a New Year's Eve party and they were a crowd pleaser. So tasty and fresh.
Be the first to ReplyAlways a beautiful location for a date.
Been coming here yearly for Valentine's Day and we always sit outside

My friends were raving ab the bougie clam chowder. They give you actual clams haha

Possibly the worst customer service I've EVER had the misfortune of witnessing and experiencing . Rude doesn't begin to cover it. There were 12 open tables outside and not ONE was available for me to quietly sit for 30 Minutes and relax. When I indicated I didn't want to lounge but do a fly by, I was told I had to wait. Then they said it literally everyone after me or behind me and then I waited for another 10 minutes. I would not recommend this nor will I ever ever ever ever ever be coming back worst service ever.

Always enjoy coming here for lunch when I take the ferry into the city. This location always has great sunshine, great bear and great food! Their other locations are great as well. Always a good spot when the sun is out.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is best for touristy spot to eat.
The oyster is fresh and ready to go. The host will give you break down how to eat and what's best to eat with. We got the seafood soup and it was on point 100/10. I was in heaven! Good amount of sea food. It was filling but kept me wanting more.

I went to Hog Island for lunch with friends on a Saturday and it was very busy! We had to wait outside in line initially but it moved very quickly. We ended up sitting inside. The service was on the slower side but we eventually got all of our appetizers and entrees. I had the shrimp and chips which was good but the fries were a little salty. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meal.
Be the first to ReplyOne of my favorite clam chowders.
It had numerous clams and was very tasty. The service wasn't the best, but it was very nice to have a view of the Bay Bridge.
Be the first to ReplyThe oysters there did not disappoint.
It's a bit of await but the doorman is really kind and attentive. Outdoor seating has heaters but I got to sit inside at the bar. Really fun crowd. It was a nice St Patrick's day!

Best clam chowder hands down, and it's not your regular thick creamy chowder. This one is more on the soupy side but totally worth it. I love that it has real clams with it as well, def fun way to eat and pick at your food:) this one was in the ferry building so right off the pier and it was very nice. It does get windy so make sure you have a light jacket on :)

Is there a dress code? Apparently if you're dressed in casual street clothes you'll be least serviced and judged based on appearance. The gentleman seating folks was as as emotionless as speaking to a wall. Before we could even say the number of our party he immediately states, "You all have to be here to be seated." He walks away and continues organizing stuff. We come back altogether and are seated. 15 minutes go by and our server (tanned Asian man with a beanie-- ha, so professional!) finally takes our order. Amongst all 3 of us we decide to make it a small, quick bite. We order a shareable salad, clam chowder and a dozen fresh oysters. Tell me why this waiter has the audacity to roll his eyes and say, "That's it!?" Ouu the audacity.

If you're interested in fresh oysters and a nice ambience, AND are willing to spend a pretty dime, then this is the spot for you. This is not the place to go to get big portions and walk away filled to the brim. We ordered 24 bar mix of oysters. It hit the spot but the oysters did not stand out as particularly amazing. The oysters did pair well with the Hog Island White Wine which was recommended to us by our server. We also tried the steamers with pasta, clam chowder, and the seafood stew. They were all really delicious. The seafood stew stood out and seemed to be the best bang for buck. I would recommend any of these three items! If you come right around opening time on the weekend, you'll avoid a long wait.

I was looking for a place to have oysters, this place was on point. It was recommended by someone at the hotel. I took the trolley which is cool, it dropped us off right in front. It is in the Ferry building on the backside along the water. We arrived to a waiting line, they sat us down in less then 10 minutes. We sat at the oyster bar. I ordered a dozen of the "bar mix" which is two of each of the oysters they offer. At the end, I decided to order the "Hog Island Sweet-water" as they were the best tasting and bigger in my opinion. I also has the geoduck ceviche- it was so delicious. We had the steamed clams and mussels....also very tasty, the clams did have a spicy kick to them but mild. I seriously found the best place for Oysters in SF. The service is amazing......everyone is very friendly. I also took some of their cool t-shirts for my boys.
Be the first to ReplyI've had the pleasure of dining at this oyster restaurant
I've had the pleasure of dining at this oyster restaurant twice now, and each time has been a delightful experience. The oysters here are truly exceptional, and I highly recommend trying the 24-piece raw oyster platter for $88 - it's a favorite of mine and always leaves me satisfied. While the oysters steal the show, the other menu items are nothing to scoff at either. The oyster burger is absolutely delicious, and I was pleasantly surprised with complimentary fried oysters when there was a slight delay in bringing out my meal. Although some dishes, like the clam chowder and BBQ spare ribs, could use a bit of improvement, they're still enjoyable. However, the fries are consistently crispy and delicious, providing the perfect accompaniment to the main dishes. Overall, this restaurant is a great spot for oyster lovers, offering a variety of options to please every palate. The service is friendly, and while there may be some room for improvement in certain dishes, the quality of the oysters alone makes it worth a visit.

Food was mid, serving size was very small, overpriced for the food and service. I want my refund.

This is one of my favorite places to take people when they visit S.F. it started from oyster farmers. The oysters are always fresh. Expensive but delicious. Service is always friendly although there are long lines. I love the view of the water at this place.
Be the first to ReplyBest clam chowder and mussels ever.
This place is a great spot in the SF ferry building and is right by the water. Clam chowder- light and tasty. Great flavor and you can tell they use fresh ingredients! Mussels + Pasta- love the pesto sauce. So light yet creamy and just the perfect flavors. Mussels are big! Seafood Stew- filled with all sorts of seafood!! Super yummy and flavorful. Service is always great and love how it's right by the water.
Be the first to Replybest oysters, everything raw is good.
(grilled is gucci too.) clam chowder is a bit unconventional, thinner and more elegant rather than traditional and hearty. worth a try, but personally I prefer creamier. get the crudo!!

What trip to San Francisco is complete without a visit to Hog Island in the Ferry Building? We sat at the chef's counter and ordered Oyster Po-Boys. I don't think there is a better one, besides maybe New Orleans. Perfectly fried and seasoned served on an ACME roll with a side of the most insanely perfect, crispy fries. We were in heaven. It's such a fun, lively, sophisticated spot. Go here without hesitation!

It's become our tradition to end our SF Trips at Hog Island - usually enjoying the Bay Views but on this rainy day, we sat inside for the first time - either way, both are great !!Began with a dozen oysters with the always delicious Hog Wash Mignonette and their grilled oysters! Kids enjoyed their grilled cheese which make no mistake, is elevated and served with their signature pickle mix and we also tried the very food halibut crudo. As always this place has a great vibe, great service and fantastic food !

It's been awhile since we made an impromptu road trip up north. 5 years to be exact. We couldn't help it but to come back to our favorite eateries. Hog Island is one of them and it's always on our unplanned and unorganized itinerary. The food and service was just as good as we remembered it. Ambiance was nice and cozy. They have heat lamps for outdoor seating.

On the first day arriving in SF, we ordered a good old chowder. Their sour dough was really dried and stale. Asked our server and told me the dough came out a few hours, but it tasted like 2 days old. We lived in the Bay, and I know a good old chowder/dough combo. This sever was rude and treated us like we're from a different country. He served us days old old sour dough. Be sure to check the freshness of your order.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely superlative seafood available here.
The fresh oysters on offer are all exquisite, including the Hog Island Sweetwaters coming from their own farm. Everything else we've tried has been amazing too: baked oysters with bourbon and chipotle; cod sliders; steamers; roasted Dungeness crab... Well worth the wait. Excellent views to boot.
