I want to save everyone 1 hour of their time.
This is absolutely not worth the wait. The queso is the consistency of cold oatmeal, Mac and cheese is lacking flavor, the corn bread is as dry as a triscuit, and the brisket is a huge piece of fat. I'm still not clear on why there is a long line when the food is already made ? John Taffer would throw things. There are two people actually working to get the orders out. Very similar to a construction site. One person digging the hole, 10 people watching or on their phones in this case.
Be the first to ReplyGood spot.
Just want brisket slices on the brisket sandwich not brisket 'ends'. Too pricey for that.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for lunch.
Ordered the brisket sandwich and mac n cheese. Brisket was good for NYC, can't compare to southern BBQ. The mac and cheese was not bad. Their BBQ sauce was good.
Be the first to ReplyI guess it has a lot to do when you're there, perhaps.
I love BBQ and have been to a lot of joints in NYC. Won't be back to this one. Came in the afternoon on a weekday. No burnt ends. Bummer. Brisket served cold (but roll was toasted), with other condiments I could have done without. Same with the pulled pork, except way too much fat. Corn bread was great. Mac & cheese avoid. Nice manager with beard and mustache, rest of staff quiet no personality. I live in NY and am used to high prices and here is no exception, but $5 for a bottled soda, in here, in this atmosphere? Better places to get higher quality BBQ,

Why is no one talking about the quality decline?? The food used to be so delicious, the Mac and cheese creamy. Now, the Mac and cheese is dry, the proportions are smaller, and the food overall doesn't taste that great. As a loyal customer over the past 7 years, I can say that the food is seriously in trouble. I'm not sure if they changed chefs or what. But something needs to change.
Be the first to ReplyTried them and loved them.
Delicious, fresh and great service. The only thing you need is the ocean view! But the food is to die for.
Be the first to ReplyThe best barbeques were so good and taste really amazing.
The service was good too, and staff were very attentive and friendly.Worth to stop here and enjoyed the BBQ food. I love the Beef Rib and Pulled Pork which taste. So many great options. The meat was so good and very tender. Well-seasoned and the sauce is so good too. Great customer service!
Be the first to ReplyMaybe it's because I'm 8 1/2 months pregnant but.
..the Korean bbq ribs are the best ribs I've had in a long time! Do not sleep on them.

Food is great! Waiters are very attentive and make sure to check in periodically. Very busy but never felt crowded

Popped in here before a trip to IKEA ( due to proximity) and it was WORTH IT. Sunday afternoon had a 1900s band playing. Walked up to the food counter service was fast. It's a take your own food to the table type of service. Brisket sandwhich is a must. The brisket here is so good soft melt in your mouth and it comes with a sweet onion sauce and pickles. Cole slaw was good and Mac and cheese ( spicy tho).
Be the first to ReplyI really lucked out and did not have a line at all.
Came around 1pm on a Friday and the restaurant was almost empty. I definitely think it's worth trying if you're in the area. I took a day trip on the ferry to explore the Redhook neighborhood and glad I stopped by here. The restaurant is EXTREMELY casual - what you'd expect from a barbecue joint, but it definitely has a lot of character. You wait in line and order your food at the front. There are some outdoor picnic tables and the indoor seating is really big. I also will say that for being so casual and not having actual waiters, the service is great. The food was tasty - their bbq sauces that are in bottles on the table are key though! I ordered:-Potato Salad: wasn't expecting it to be puréed, but it was good and has more of a vinegary acidic taste -Coleslaw: not too soggy or drenched in mayo, which was good. Has a dijon mustard taste. -Pulled Pork: very tender. My favorite out of the meats we ordered. -Cornbread: very good. So buttery and dense like a cake and has a honey sweetness to it. -Ribs: decent. -Brisket Sandwich: probably the least exciting to me-Queso: this was a funny addition and I definitely could of done without. But who doesn't love a thing of velveeta!
Be the first to ReplyQuite tasty! But ordering could be a challenge, long lines.
Get there early to have more of a selection.
Be the first to Reply1 hour wait in line and I am not complaining.
Go to the bar, order an adult beverage in a to-go cup, and stand in line for some excellently done bbque.Picnic tables under umbrellas outside complete the meal.Weekends are busy, busy.Get there early evening, items go fast. You do get what you pay for.
Be the first to ReplyLoved the food here.
. The menu it's limited but serves the purpose of BBQ in the area. Showing up early is a must. The wait line was a big longer than expected. It does have a bar indoors that allows you to purchase drinks while you wait. Lots of outdoor seating for a summer day.

Be the first to ReplyThis was an awesome stop in Red Hook.
We popped on the ferry from Manhattan and we're dropped off basically outside this BBQ joint. The dishes are great to order in a Group and share around country table style. We had the Beef Brisket and Pulled Pork Sandwich with a side of Mac and Cheeese.

Expect to wait minimum an hour to two hours, especially on the weekends. We got here at 6:40pm today and sat down with our food at 8:30pm! We ordered the brisket both fatty and lean- go for the fatty! It's hella soft and delicious. The corn bread was my fave item, go for a corner piece! Crispy, sweet, and buttery! A delicious accompaniment to the savory meat. Two words: honey butterWhen we got there they were sold out of a lot of items, so the earlier you go the better. A lot of people were turned away as we were eating as they sold out of food at around 8:50pm- which means you had to get on line about an hour and a half before that! The slaw was just okay and the Mac n cheese was nothing special.I got 1/2 a pound of brisket and it was plenty with enough to take home as leftovers. The staff are incredibly sweet and personable! Will I return? If I'm in the neighborhood and it's a random time during the weekday- I really don't believe on waiting for long lines but wanted to give this place a try, and I'm glad I did!

Food good but the service has really gone down!!!!Been on the line for over an hour at 11:30 noon and looks like they could have a way better system!!! The services don't seem to notice the line at all. Unfortunate.
Be the first to ReplySO GOOD.
always hits the spot! Their honey cornbread is sooooo good. And the brisket is to die for! Their catering services are amazing and the staff is extremely friendly and makes sure your needs are met! Great job guys!
Be the first to ReplyMy husband loves ribs of any kind.
I could really care less for ribs but after checking out the reviews for Hometown Bar-b-que I had to bring him here for the first time for his birthday. We live upstate NY and it rained most of the morning but we still made it to the restaurant about ten minutes after they opened. The skies had cleared and the line to order was just outside the door. Our line mate in front of us informed that the line would normally be around the block by now if it weren't for the weather so I guess we were lucky for the rain which "promised a shorter line" which reason he bribed his young daughter with the promise to visit Ample Hills Creamery for dessert after he got his fix here. It took about an hour to make it to the counter to order our food but it was worth the wait. As we got closer to ordering the more excited we got not just because of the food but because we saw how happy staff were, enjoying themselves doing their jobs to the rhythm of the music that filled the restaurant. It was delightful and refreshing to see the staff enjoying their jobs. Kudos to management for that. When we get to the counter our line mate inquired with the butcher as to price of the beef rib. The butcher responded $40 per pound and I jumped back slightly in surprise of the cost. The butcher openly laughed at my response and called me out on it. He then preceded to thoroughly educate me on the religious time and care given to the meat before it made it to the cutting board just for me to enjoy... The line mate in front of me took one rib and as the butcher cut it, it looked so good so... I did it. I got one too and it was love at first bite. I normally hate beef ribs because most places serve it so fatty. We came to eat so we also order half a rack of the char sui baby back ribs, an order of Korean pork ribs, Vietnamese hot wings, the brisket queso dip with tortilla chips, potato salad, collard greens, kosher dill pickles, cornbread and and a lamb bang mi sandwich wrapped to go for later. The beef rib is what will bring me back but I will also be ordering the cornbread, potato salad and collard greens again too. My son thoroughly enjoyed the brisket queso dip with tortilla chips as well. The wings were the only disappointment. The flavor was good but the skin was like chewing on a rubber band. My husband also agreed that the beef rib was his favorite but he didn't like the potato salad because he thought it was mashed potatoes.
Be the first to ReplyThought this place was a great place after I went based on
Thought this place was a great place after I went based on a friends recommendation. Low and behold the food is not that great and on top of that the food is so expensive. It isn't even worth it ! You can fly to Texas and back and get better food and pay less than you would at this place! Save your money and go somewhere else

This is the best BBQ in NYC! The brisket is unbelievable, the ribs were great and the cornbread is the best I've ever had. Very reasonable prices for the quality. Not to mention the staff and service were over the top friendly and attentive. They have an awesome bar and lots of outdoor seating. I can't wait to become a regular here. Don't change a thing!

Very expensive! Best way to order if your in a group is for the table and let everyone share $50+ for this food. Also I WAITED IN LINE FOR 1 HOUR AND 45 MINUTES

0/5.0Service 3.5/5.0Value 3.0/5.0Decor 3.0/5.0Overall 4.0/5.0Really good BBQ. Everything was done well -- importantly, including the brisket. The wings were interesting. Service at the counter. Everything felt like I was in TX, aside from the prices (I don't mind, just keep it going!). Curious about why the Asian/Korean-inspired items. Would come back.

One of those places that I consistently visit when meeting with friends or when spending time with family. I really like their food, also drinks, without further ado, just amazing! The atmosphere is also great, the service is also great, some compliments. But guys, I ask you, please do something with the price tag for some items, sometimes I look at them and feel that this is an overprice!
