Great food, friendly people, good cold beers - open spaces, but place to sit could be tough on certain days.
Be the first to ReplyHonestly, the best barbecue you're going to get in New York.
As soon as I walked in, the ambience made me feel like I was in the south, great customer service, great food. Probably going to be the best cornbread I'm ever gonna have in my entire life.

Honestly some of the bbq on the map !!! This place is the absolute truth the entire restaurant is like a wood smoker it doesn't get much better
Be the first to ReplyI've been meaning to come here for years.
Everyone tells me this is the best brisket in NY. Sadly mine was dry but flavor was good. Besides that everything else was super delicious. Pulled pork may have been the best ive had in NY. Also the pastrami sandwhich which is only served Friday Saturday and Sunday was even more tender than Katz. Ribs were amazing as well. I will definitely come back and give the brisket another shot.

An excellent (if oddly remote) barbecue spot that deserves positive attention; the brisket was excellent, but the gimmicky other dishes (particularly the pastrami bacon) were a tad overpriced. This is counter service. The meat is so good you do not need sauce. My friends enjoyed the sides, but I stuck to meat.

Have to say that I agree with some of the other reviews that the food was hit or miss. What we do ordered Mains: 1/2lb brisket, 1/2lb pulled pork, Italian sausage, and brisket sandwich Sides: pickles, cole slaw, and collared greens Wins: Brisket Sandwich: great sandwich that is worth the drive from anywhere in the metro area Brisket: probably the best brisket I've had in the metro area hands down. Would definitely pick this over Fette Sau for Brooklyn Good: Collard Greens: I actually liked them but not having vinegar anywhere around made this a slight miss for me. Pickles: they were good but not a standout. Bad: Pulled Pork: was so greasy that it was somewhere between a liquid and a solid. Tasted good texture was terrible Sausage: was undercooked so it felt more like sausage paste than meat. Flavor was unremarkable Cole Slaw: dry and not much flavor to it. Best I can say is that it has a caloric value TLDR: if you want good brisket, come here. If you want anything else, go to Fette Sau.
Be the first to ReplyI think this is as good as it gets in NYC.
Really. BBQ is just not something that New York does well. There are options, but they're limited. Hometown is by far the closest thing I've encountered to something comparable down south, but it just happens to be in Brooklyn and is *way* more expensive. (#1) It's been just over a decade since their hyped debut and I think they were onto something special from the start. There are so many places that have tried to get it right, but by choosing a location in Red Hook where they could take advantage of the space and pit smoking that couldn't be done in other parts of the city. I love the fact they smoke on oak wood. This alone gives some of their meats a robust flavor profile, which tastes complex and savory all the way through. The beef rib is perfectly charred with a good amount of tenderness and fat. I have always been thorough impressed with their brisket, which is both lean with a smidgin of moistness. I realize the ribs have been a big selling point, but I've had too many visits where they were too dry for my liking. The pulled pork sandwich has been a hit with many, but it's always fared a bit average on this end. Even if it feels a bit cheesy, I do prefer their belly but that's only been a special and is not a consistent offering. It should be pointed out that the place is massive. There is plenty of seating with indoor and outdoor options. On select weekends, they'll have live music and a good amount of drunk'ish folks crowding the bar. Overall, it's nice to have this option anywhere in NY, and they've certainly played a big role in the transformation of Red Hook as a neighborhood. ___________ (#1) Definitely not better than Texas BBQ, but it's fabulous for NY.

the food off the hook, great ambience !! the bar is super cozy and i'll be back a ton!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food is always came here with my cousins.
This is literally the best barbecue spot in all of New York taste just like Texas highly highly highly recommend. They also do catering, which is really cool that I might do for my family members birthday!
Be the first to ReplyGreat BBQ spot.
Everything was delish. Inside has tables and in the back room they have bigger tables. Seat yourselves. Two bars, the time we came only one was being used. Self service water stations which is sooo convenient! The line does get backed up as there is only person taking orders and the other is charging you. Whenever they run out of items they black it out on the menu. I'd def be back! Great food with great people!
Be the first to ReplyI want to save everyone 1 hour of their time.
This is absolutely not worth the wait. The queso is the consistency of cold oatmeal, Mac and cheese is lacking flavor, the corn bread is as dry as a triscuit, and the brisket is a huge piece of fat. I'm still not clear on why there is a long line when the food is already made ? John Taffer would throw things. There are two people actually working to get the orders out. Very similar to a construction site. One person digging the hole, 10 people watching or on their phones in this case.
Be the first to ReplyGood spot.
Just want brisket slices on the brisket sandwich not brisket 'ends'. Too pricey for that.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for lunch.
Ordered the brisket sandwich and mac n cheese. Brisket was good for NYC, can't compare to southern BBQ. The mac and cheese was not bad. Their BBQ sauce was good.
Be the first to ReplyI guess it has a lot to do when you're there, perhaps.
I love BBQ and have been to a lot of joints in NYC. Won't be back to this one. Came in the afternoon on a weekday. No burnt ends. Bummer. Brisket served cold (but roll was toasted), with other condiments I could have done without. Same with the pulled pork, except way too much fat. Corn bread was great. Mac & cheese avoid. Nice manager with beard and mustache, rest of staff quiet no personality. I live in NY and am used to high prices and here is no exception, but $5 for a bottled soda, in here, in this atmosphere? Better places to get higher quality BBQ,

Why is no one talking about the quality decline?? The food used to be so delicious, the Mac and cheese creamy. Now, the Mac and cheese is dry, the proportions are smaller, and the food overall doesn't taste that great. As a loyal customer over the past 7 years, I can say that the food is seriously in trouble. I'm not sure if they changed chefs or what. But something needs to change.
Be the first to ReplyTried them and loved them.
Delicious, fresh and great service. The only thing you need is the ocean view! But the food is to die for.
Be the first to ReplyThe best barbeques were so good and taste really amazing.
The service was good too, and staff were very attentive and friendly.Worth to stop here and enjoyed the BBQ food. I love the Beef Rib and Pulled Pork which taste. So many great options. The meat was so good and very tender. Well-seasoned and the sauce is so good too. Great customer service!
Be the first to ReplyMaybe it's because I'm 8 1/2 months pregnant but.
..the Korean bbq ribs are the best ribs I've had in a long time! Do not sleep on them.

Food is great! Waiters are very attentive and make sure to check in periodically. Very busy but never felt crowded

Popped in here before a trip to IKEA ( due to proximity) and it was WORTH IT. Sunday afternoon had a 1900s band playing. Walked up to the food counter service was fast. It's a take your own food to the table type of service. Brisket sandwhich is a must. The brisket here is so good soft melt in your mouth and it comes with a sweet onion sauce and pickles. Cole slaw was good and Mac and cheese ( spicy tho).
Be the first to ReplyI really lucked out and did not have a line at all.
Came around 1pm on a Friday and the restaurant was almost empty. I definitely think it's worth trying if you're in the area. I took a day trip on the ferry to explore the Redhook neighborhood and glad I stopped by here. The restaurant is EXTREMELY casual - what you'd expect from a barbecue joint, but it definitely has a lot of character. You wait in line and order your food at the front. There are some outdoor picnic tables and the indoor seating is really big. I also will say that for being so casual and not having actual waiters, the service is great. The food was tasty - their bbq sauces that are in bottles on the table are key though! I ordered:-Potato Salad: wasn't expecting it to be puréed, but it was good and has more of a vinegary acidic taste -Coleslaw: not too soggy or drenched in mayo, which was good. Has a dijon mustard taste. -Pulled Pork: very tender. My favorite out of the meats we ordered. -Cornbread: very good. So buttery and dense like a cake and has a honey sweetness to it. -Ribs: decent. -Brisket Sandwich: probably the least exciting to me-Queso: this was a funny addition and I definitely could of done without. But who doesn't love a thing of velveeta!
Be the first to ReplyQuite tasty! But ordering could be a challenge, long lines.
Get there early to have more of a selection.
Be the first to Reply1 hour wait in line and I am not complaining.
Go to the bar, order an adult beverage in a to-go cup, and stand in line for some excellently done bbque.Picnic tables under umbrellas outside complete the meal.Weekends are busy, busy.Get there early evening, items go fast. You do get what you pay for.
Be the first to ReplyLoved the food here.
. The menu it's limited but serves the purpose of BBQ in the area. Showing up early is a must. The wait line was a big longer than expected. It does have a bar indoors that allows you to purchase drinks while you wait. Lots of outdoor seating for a summer day.
