We finally tried this place after months of not remembering
We finally tried this place after months of not remembering to make a reservation. I think overall, I would give it a 5/5!Parking - we made our reservations at 10pm (lol) but there were plenty of street parking available at that time across the street. There's also valet out front for like $16 or parking garages two blocks away.Ambiance was great! Very on theme. The restaurant is huge but very nicely decorated throughout.Food - I actually think all the food was worth the price we paid. I ordered the house cut, which was around $58 - but this includes a tossed salad, bread, two sides, and the Yorkshire pudding. The salad was pretty unimpressive but the meat and the sides were delicious and really redeemed the meal. I ordered the mashed potatoes and the creamed spinach, my partner order the creamed corn. Both really good and complements the meal well. They also gave us a sweet treat for our anniversary!Recommend! Worth the hype and price.

Made a reservation here a few months in advance so definitely had high expectations coming in & the food did not disappoint! Meat was very flavorful and tender. Our party of 3 got the City Cut which is their smallest cut & were all very full afterwards. The different courses were all pretty good as well as we tried the corn, salad, mashed potatoes, and yorkshire pudding. Also ordered some cocktails & wine :) I got the Lemon Drop & they bring out the shaker as well! If you like sweet drinks, I highly recommend. Inside was pretty loud and crowded, which is fair for such a popular restaurant, but our waiter was very attentive and knowledgable. He provided good descriptions of each course before we ate

I loved the general vibes and history of house of prime rib! I've always been wanting to try this restaurant so I was happy to goOrdered the go-to salad+rib set? Menu which basically came with salad, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. The salad just tasted like a normal salad to me but they give you so much I only ate half to safe space. The prime rib it self was delicious and I got the English cut bc I prefer thinner slices of meet in general. Creamed spinach was delicious. Mashed potato was also there Our waiter was so friendly as well!!! I'm glad to have tried this restaurant given that it's a sf staple but idk if I would return given how hard it is to get a reservation. I would def recommend to give it a try at least once doe
😍
The servers were friendly and extremely attentive.
Old school charm and ambience with amazing food! No reservation, put your name in and wait at the bar. Will be worth the wait!

We made a reservation for house of prime rib over a year
We made a reservation for house of prime rib over a year ago, so expectation were quite high!Coming into the restaurant, it was absolutely packed, and you can also see the beef cutting stations at every corner of the place.Starting with the bread, it was served hot, with a pretty good side of butter. The outer layer was nice and crunchy, with a soft interior. The table side salad had a strong sour taste, and some of the lettuce leaves were soggy. Not the strongest point of the night. Finally, the beef came and it really did meet my expectations. I ordered it medium rare, as they recommended and it was very juicy and tender. The side of horseradish paired so well with it. The side of spinach and mash potatoes were also pretty whatever. All in all, the beef really carried the whole night, which is why I rated it as a 4. If it wasn't for the beef, the rest of the meals were pretty average

The prime here was fantastic! I made a reservation to take my family here which was about 2 months ahead. (7:30pm) It was a very late dinner for us. We usually eat by 6. Drove over a hour to have dinner here.. let me tell you service was absolutely amazing! A lot of people there on a Wednesday night. Overall it was a great experience worth the drive and late dinner.

As usual this place doesn't disappoint if you looking for a hearty prime rib meal. We arrived half hour before opening since we didn't have a reservation. They let everyone in so we can wait inside and or enjoy a cocktail! We ordered the House cut - one full meal and one a la carte style which was just minus the salad. Since I'm not a fan of their overly dressed and kinda soggy iceberg salads this was definitely the way to order from now on!! I believe it was a $9 saving. Who needs sappy salad??! We were fortunate to get two rib bones with our cut so had way too much to eat. Baked potatoes were huge. We enjoyed our leftovers for another meal so go if you're hungry or want a lot of food. $136 for two dinners and a two drinks.
😍
Absolutely amazing cocktails, meat, salad, and bread.
I love that they are willing to give you a doggy bag to take home and prevent food waste (also get your moneys worth)! Every server is obviously experienced and will help guide you through the food selection process. There was ample seating for people waiting & access to cocktails which was great since it was cold outside. Stunning and historic feel of San Francisco

Have been coming to House of Prime Rib for over 25 years,
Have been coming to House of Prime Rib for over 25 years, which speaks for itself - they are consistently good. Special occasion - 60th birthday - no brainer, House of Prime Rib - make a reservation months in advance for 8 guests - guest of honor and his best friends. We were sat at 5pm and not once, were able to enjoy each other's company or the food. It was obvious they needed to turn the table by a certain time. We each ordered martinis. Didn't even have time to enjoy the cocktail before our salads were set in front of us (not prepared tableside). The servers were CONSTANTLY circling us eyeing our plates and removing them once given the ok. Same thing happened with dinner - so awkward to remove some guest's plates, while some are still eating. It was absolutely horrible. No recognition of our birthday boy (besides the obligatory scoop of ice cream at the end). We all left saying the same thing - how rushed we were and unable to share any conversation. We would have had a much higher bill if we would have been given the time. Truly a bummer - worst experience we've had in 25 years. This evening would warrant one star, but all our other experiences are in the 4-5 category, hence the 3-star rating. Avoid if you have an early reservation or larger group.
😍
This place never fails to deliver.
We try to come here at least once a year. I am NOT a huge fan of red meat, but this place is an exception for me. My husband laughs because I dubbed HPR "the place with the buttery meat", it's that smooth and delicious. You need to book a reservation on open table way in advance, months! They are open late and also have an excellent bar staff. For two people, you won't leave spending less than $175. It's not super expensive and you get a lot of quality food for you dollar. It's a nice place with old school charm to celebrate a special occasion.

Food was great as expected but just had to do a shout out to our server Blue! A truly delightful human who made our night. 10/10 service, will definitely be back!

This place is worth the hype in my opinion as far as the food! But first you have to get in and that's the first issue. They're booked MONTHS in advance and all the available times are super late like 9pm. I was able to find an 8:30 reservation back in January so I swooped on it as it was the earliest I could find. Went in on a Wednesday night and this place was PACKED! Like there is NO slow evenings here. We arrived at 8:10 and checked in but weren't seated until close to 9pm for our 8:30 reservation so definitely an area to be improved especially when we were told our party was next to be seated and then 4 other parties got seated before we did. After that the experience was great, our server was amazing! It was all of our first time there so she explained the different cuts, and all the accompanying dishes that come with it and she checked in on us frequently and overall was a delight. I got the English cut which is 10-12oz but sliced into 3 pieces so you get a little more sauce with every bite. The prime rib was super tender and delicious! I got the creamed spinach with it which was SO good and the loaded baked potato. Instead of getting my second serving of prime rib I opted to save room for dessert and thank goodness I did. I got the pecan pie a la mode and it was SO delicious! A warm piece of pie with a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream and a big helping of whipped cream! Definitely did not leave hungry!
😍
Great food, great steakhouse vibe, great service.
Always a really fun place to have a special night with your friends and family. Drinks at the bar are actually cheaper than other bars - pregame at HOPR next weekend??
😍
I have been dreaming about this meal since I have had it.
House of Prime Rib serves exactly that, prime rib. You pick your cut, and sides. The options are minimal but I promise you its good. Each meal comes with a table side salad that is to die for. Whatever the dressing is set it apart. I decided to do the baked potato and creamed spinach both were delicious. The service was great. Our server was super friendly. He checked on us throughout the night. And even came and put hot au jus on our meat while we were eating. The atmosphere is nice and has an old school feel to it. If you ever find yourself in San Francisco and like meat, hit up House of Prime Rib.
🤮
Comparing my good experiences here and then our horrible
Comparing my good experiences here and then our horrible most recent visit is making us never come here again. The food I will say is somewhat consistent over the years but our salad was overdressed and the king Henry cut I was given was a ok sized slice with a bone from another prime rib just set on the side and not attached to the muscle. What we experienced with the service was something we haven't encountered in a long time. Originally we were going to sit in a nice corner booth (we had mad reservations ahead of time) and then i saw the server talk to the host to move us to a much smaller table on the side... we were hoping to get a booth but our server insisted to sit at a small table instead. Our server Jason seemed to not care for us; he may of judged us based on the way we look and provided subpar service than the people dressed in suits that were dining around us. He ignored us for quite some time during courses and also talked to us quite disrespectfully and giving one word responses and running away. The tone in his voice was very condescending and just wasn't the type of service we were expecting here or anywhere rather. We had seconds and i saw him with the chef and pointed at the smallest pieces to give us... the seconds were a sliver of beef, maybe 2oz tops. When asking for a to-go box he passively aggressively made comments to us and left us feeling like we didn't belong here. He said I'm not giving you that unless you eat more than half of your meal and then stormed off. We felt like we were in a bad position and being forced to do something... we ended up eating half and then he gave us the check without the Togo boxes. I asked again for the togo boxes and he sighed deeply but he returned with a box with a remark of "this is a serious big deal we aren't supposed to do this. don't do that next time."We walked out of the restaurant just thinking he had a bad day but realized we should complain. We came back and talked to the manager Evan which listened to our concerns but didn't offer anything to compensate for the horrible interactions with this server. We felt like he took our complaint and went in one ear then out the other... we left the restaurant disappointed because we have never been treated so poorly. Hoping this reaches out to someone who will consider going elsewhere.

Came here for the first time and it was a great experience.
From the service to the food, it was all around amazing. First, our server Hector was very professional and kind and kept us laughing throughout our time here. He came out with the different appetizers before the steak such as the salad, corn bread, and Yorkshire pudding and all of them tasted so good. I'd say the salad is the best one, it has cherry vinaigrette in it which gives it such good flavor. For the steak, I ordered the House of Prime Rib cut medium rare while my girlfriend ordered the same cut but medium well. The medium rare is the way to go 100%. Super tender, juicy, and you can eat it without sauce that's how good it was. For the medium well, it was also just as good but it was a little tough to chew. However, both were really good and the sides (cream spinach and mashed potatoes) were delicious. While we ate, the manager would come around and ask how everything was and I noticed he did it with every table around us which was nice of him. In the end, I would definitely come back again, the service is very professional and the food is phenomenal. I should've listened to Hector when he said "don't forget to save room for the steak" because I couldn't finish my plate at the end. Thank you House of Prime Rib for an unforgettable Birthday dinner!

I felt like the quality has gone down.
Hospitality remains the same though. Overall still a good experience. Fantasy cake is still very rich but not over the top heavy.

First time dining here and this place lived up to all the hype. Had the King Henry VIII cut. Just the best prime rib ever. Excellent service. Well worth the money. Can't wait to eat here again.

Of course great food and service BUT the women's bathrooms are so dirty and old, the grout around the tiled floors were black and should be white or cream NOT BLACK, they need to be bleached, they use a dirty mope to clean and that's gross!
😍
One of my all-time favorite restaurants in the world.
Everything here is perfect....from the salad, to the sides, to the prime rib, to the service. I have been here many times and I can honestly say this place is the BEST!

A must if you are in the city and looking for a piece of history! I believe it's been here since the 1940's and they do one thing and one thing right: prime rib! Portions are huge and the food is delicious! Love the creamed spinach. We even convinced our non-beef eating friends to join us- they had the fish of the day. They also had a great experience!
😍

Wow, my buddy Winton told me how good this place was and it did not disappoint. I love their menu, simple and to the point. We waited about an hour before getting seated. The waiter was so attentive. He did an amazing job. The star is clearly the Prime Rib. So flavorful. The creamed spinach was on point. The creamed corn was good too. Love the bread here and that salad was awesome.
😍
One of the best places to eat in San Francisco.
You will never go wrong. Historic and if you want to bring friends for an occasion you'll love it.

Overall, the experience was quite positive.
Our waitress was so nice. Never rushing us. Always enthusiastic and kept us feeling well attended. The vibe there is more than a casual place but so welcoming. Much bigger inside with a lot of sections that keep it feeling more intimate. The joy of the other customers added to our positive time outPicking the size of the prime rib cut sets the price for the meal. This also includes salad, masked or baked potato, Yorkshire pudding (a pastry top), and creamed corn (or spinach).Had the smaller cut of prime rib (med rare) which was almost like butter wonderful smoothness with was wonderful, great texture. Downside was it was not seasoned. The Yorkshire pudding was a nice touch to make it a bit more traditional, like the restaurant decor and menu use. The baked potato was loaded with toppings. The salad was good. For added expense (and totally worth it), I ordered the Chocolate mouse cheesecake. Delish! The overall look is aged and could use so repairs and updates. But this is clearly a popular place. Expensive but should be checked out from time to time.
😍
I really enjoy this place.
Reservations are so difficult to get!! We've been trying for months and finally decided to bite the bullet and just show up and wait. Totally worth it. We got there at 5 on a Friday. It was a 2 hour wait for two for a table but we put our name in for the bar as well. Ended up at the bar and loved it!! Love their dirty martinis and when we got seated ordered a bottle of Caymus and two order of the English cut! Happy full bellies. We split the bread pudding and a glass of tawny port
🙂
could not decide what to eat for a last min dinner.
drove towards oakland, and was a little sketch on going for a late night dinner so looked up random spots in SF. randomly thought HOPR, looked online for any openings and 9:30pm for 3 people was a success!!so this was our first time there, no one's ever been here- and we've lived in the bay our whole lives. got seated quickly, got curious about how to order and man.. it is definitely worth the price. Ordered City cut & Kings cut- both medium rare. However, I this was much much more rare than I thought. I was advised by my aunt (who is culinary trained) that our medium rare at home is different than a steak house medium rare lol. It comes with a salad, plus you have an option of mashed or baked potato (I got mine fully loaded), cream corn or creamed spinach and a piece of yorkshire pudding to dip in the au jou.I think the main star of the show was chef HECTOR! We sat right next to the carving station, and he made really great conversation. he really showed us a great dining experience, and even gave us some beef bones. oops.. not sure if I was supposed to mention lol. just very generous and knew how to crack a joke here and there. I think one thing I would change is definitely definitely the carpet or something. restaurant is a landmark staple, it's old school, and it's home to many memories... however.. it smells like a wet bar once you walk in. that was my only downside.other than that, I'd gladly return!
🙂

It was the first time I went to this place but it wasn't definitively the last time. One of my friends recommended it. I like this place. They prepare great meals, their menu is rich, and the chief seems to be a professional. Our server was gracious and funny and the best at recommending dishes. We will come back for sure.
😍
Amazing food, outstanding service, all around good
Amazing food, outstanding service, all around good experience. There is a long wait time but that's expected at an establishment like this. Nice ambience and dress code is a bit relaxed (not as stuffy as one would think at a place like this). It is quite loud but didn't ruin the experience.
😍
I was surprisingly able to get extremely last minute
I was surprisingly able to get extremely last minute reservations to HOPR like 30 minutes before the reservation. I rushed over there from Berkeley and was able to make it, but I did call them beforehand to let them know I'd be slightly late. Our service was amazing, extremely interactive and fun. My date & I shared the House of Prime Rib Cut. The price to share is $10, but it's totally worth it because the extra plate gets their own sides. The meal came with a salad made table side and Yorkshire pudding! The prime rib delicious and cooked to perfection. I also ordered the Lemon Drop and it was amazing, they leave the shaker at your table to refill your glass with the rest. My date got the Moscow Mule and it was refreshing. I'd definitely come back, although it's extremely difficult to get reservations.
😍
Worth all the hype, the prime rib is delicious and so full
Worth all the hype, the prime rib is delicious and so full of flavor. I asked for medium well but should of gotten medium-know for next time!If you order a martini they give you the full shaker, the salad is delicious and they serve it with a chilled fork. The sides are unreal-hard to choose we got them all and split. The baked potato and creamed corn are to die for!Very old school and classic. Great place for celebrations!
🤢
Prime Rib was OK, but nothing special.
More stringy, less flavorful than the good one's I've had. (Could get a similar one for $25 at a million other places.) Yorkshire Pudding was pretty good, but didn't knock my socks off. Mashed potatoes and creamed spinach were mediocre and bland. Salad was just mostly iceberg lettuce with nothing interesting and a "special recipe" dressing that tasted like a million I've had at cheap diners. Sourdough bread was warm and tasty. I'm not super into wine, so I asked the waiter to recommend a bottle of Cab under $70, perhaps just the most dry. (There were 5-10 in this price range on the list.) He refused and recommended a $90 bottle. Are you kidding me?In terms of food, service, and ambience, this place was several rungs down from Capital Grille.
🙂
good to be back in bay area and go to a fav place.
My wifes prime rib outstanding, service outstanding, and our group lingered a bit with the manager who later sent dessert over and said enjoy our food and nice time as long as we wanted to...was good to be welcomed back!...has a nice feel to it and always clean fyi!...

I don't come here often, but I have never had a single
I don't come here often, but I have never had a single complaint regarding my food and service. I went on a Saturday night w a group of 6 for a 9pm reservation. It does take 3 months to secure a reservation and this was the only time available, but that's how it is when you want quality! It gives you something to look forward to. They even call you a few days prior to confirm your reservation, as late cancellations do consist of a fee. Parking in the city is just as expected so def come earlier to account for that, unless you pay for lot parking or utilize their valet parking. Aira and William took care of our table and Aira was kind, informative, and made sure that my friend with food restrictions was well taken care of! Hats off to Aira providing us with such great service on a busy Saturday night at peak hours. I personally got a lemon drop and the king Henry cut with spinach and a loaded baked potato. I enjoyed everything that I consumed. Once the meats came out table stopped talking just so we could savor our food. I did not finish that monstrosity and now I have another meal to enjoy at home. All I can say is to make that reservation! If you don't think you have a reason for dining here now, I'm sure you will in 3 months.
