It was the first time I went to this place but it wasn't
It was the first time I went to this place but it wasn't definitively the last time. One of my friends recommended it. I like this place. They prepare great meals, their menu is rich, and the chief seems to be a professional. Our server was gracious and funny and the best at recommending dishes. We will come back for sure.
😍
Amazing food, outstanding service, all around good
Amazing food, outstanding service, all around good experience. There is a long wait time but that's expected at an establishment like this. Nice ambience and dress code is a bit relaxed (not as stuffy as one would think at a place like this). It is quite loud but didn't ruin the experience.
😍
I was surprisingly able to get extremely last minute
I was surprisingly able to get extremely last minute reservations to HOPR like 30 minutes before the reservation. I rushed over there from Berkeley and was able to make it, but I did call them beforehand to let them know I'd be slightly late. Our service was amazing, extremely interactive and fun. My date & I shared the House of Prime Rib Cut. The price to share is $10, but it's totally worth it because the extra plate gets their own sides. The meal came with a salad made table side and Yorkshire pudding! The prime rib delicious and cooked to perfection. I also ordered the Lemon Drop and it was amazing, they leave the shaker at your table to refill your glass with the rest. My date got the Moscow Mule and it was refreshing. I'd definitely come back, although it's extremely difficult to get reservations.
😍
Worth all the hype, the prime rib is delicious and so full
Worth all the hype, the prime rib is delicious and so full of flavor. I asked for medium well but should of gotten medium-know for next time!If you order a martini they give you the full shaker, the salad is delicious and they serve it with a chilled fork. The sides are unreal-hard to choose we got them all and split. The baked potato and creamed corn are to die for!Very old school and classic. Great place for celebrations!
🤢
Prime Rib was OK, but nothing special.
More stringy, less flavorful than the good one's I've had. (Could get a similar one for $25 at a million other places.) Yorkshire Pudding was pretty good, but didn't knock my socks off. Mashed potatoes and creamed spinach were mediocre and bland. Salad was just mostly iceberg lettuce with nothing interesting and a "special recipe" dressing that tasted like a million I've had at cheap diners. Sourdough bread was warm and tasty. I'm not super into wine, so I asked the waiter to recommend a bottle of Cab under $70, perhaps just the most dry. (There were 5-10 in this price range on the list.) He refused and recommended a $90 bottle. Are you kidding me?In terms of food, service, and ambience, this place was several rungs down from Capital Grille.
🙂
good to be back in bay area and go to a fav place.
My wifes prime rib outstanding, service outstanding, and our group lingered a bit with the manager who later sent dessert over and said enjoy our food and nice time as long as we wanted to...was good to be welcomed back!...has a nice feel to it and always clean fyi!...

I don't come here often, but I have never had a single
I don't come here often, but I have never had a single complaint regarding my food and service. I went on a Saturday night w a group of 6 for a 9pm reservation. It does take 3 months to secure a reservation and this was the only time available, but that's how it is when you want quality! It gives you something to look forward to. They even call you a few days prior to confirm your reservation, as late cancellations do consist of a fee. Parking in the city is just as expected so def come earlier to account for that, unless you pay for lot parking or utilize their valet parking. Aira and William took care of our table and Aira was kind, informative, and made sure that my friend with food restrictions was well taken care of! Hats off to Aira providing us with such great service on a busy Saturday night at peak hours. I personally got a lemon drop and the king Henry cut with spinach and a loaded baked potato. I enjoyed everything that I consumed. Once the meats came out table stopped talking just so we could savor our food. I did not finish that monstrosity and now I have another meal to enjoy at home. All I can say is to make that reservation! If you don't think you have a reason for dining here now, I'm sure you will in 3 months.
😍
Just realized last night that I've never reviewed this
Just realized last night that I've never reviewed this legendary restaurant that we've been too many times..Probably the hardest reservation to make in the city for good reasons...always consistently good Prime Rib and sides, excellent service and food served surprisingly fast for such a busy restaurant..A reservation is usually a couple or more months out so plan way ahead. I always get the King Henry cut done medium english style with the bone in, baked potato, creamed spinach and yorkshire pudding... perfect meal. The ambience is great...sat by the fireplace last night ..makes you feel like the holidays at home. I recently if you go to valet ..parking is tough in the neighborhood and parking garage is a few blocks away. Highly recommend!

I bring out of towners here a couple times a year and also do a dinner with my closest friends once a year here. Not sure what happened but we had the worst experience ever with a server named Brian (according to the receipt) in February. The food was fine but a majority of the experience is the wonderful wait staff who joke and put on a show. HoPR is like the Benihana of Prime Rib. This guy literally flung the yorkshire puddings onto our plates from a distance. We tried to crack a joke with him and there was zero acknowledgement. He poured out our shakers to the brim of our cups without asking. Maybe it was because we didn't look like we worked in the FiDi or something, but it really ruined the experience. He was giving other tables extensive time and service.I was gloating earlier that night to the friend that it was going to be a wonderful experience and it was the exact opposite. We still tipped the guy nicely because-- well we're not trash just because we didn't wear polos. But yeah, that was rough.

Love this spot, but, when a waiter gives you the 'bum's
Love this spot, but, when a waiter gives you the 'bum's rush' so he can get another seating, it is obvious. Salad before the cocktail, wrong! Main course just as soon as the salad plates are lifted. Not a minute in between. Not fooling anyone. He, white middle aged guy but probably all the servers do it???, most likely got another seating, but then again, we left him 15-18% rather than 22-25%. Maybe better for him financially, but it leaves a bad taste in one's mouth that he, and the restaurant have to live with. Gus, the maitre d' from forever, would have seriously disapproved.

Wow!! Definitely the best steakhouse
Wow!! Definitely the best steakhouse ever!!!
😍
Hands down the best steakhouse I've ever been to.
We were going to go right at opening but got there about 515, would highly recommend making a reservation. We sat at the bar and our bartender/server was so experienced and incredible. I ordered a lemon drop and the city cut. My boyfriend ordered the largest. Although we sat at the bar we had an incredible experience. The bartender hooked me up and essentially got 3 drinks for 1, unlimited water, unlimited life and drink advice. I felt completely underdressed being in business casual. The only thing I didn't like (don't come for me I have texture issues) is all the fat. I understand it's flavor but out of everything that was my ONLY complaint. My cut essentially I could cut with a fork. The salad was incredible. The horseradish, also incredible. So glad we got this experience! We will be back!

Sheesh, I searched the keyword "vegan" in the reviews and got nothing but a bunch of yelpers asking why vegans would even go to a steak house. I'm here in their defense!! I'm not full vegan. I do go streaks with no meat though when I feel like it. To answer those questions - there are MANY reasons why a vegan would go to a steakhouse. I looked for vegetarian/vegan options because I'm not eating meat right now, but my sister is moving and a going away dinner was planned for her. (Such a shocker I wouldn't ask the planner to change the WHOLE venue based off my current dietary restrictions..) and besides my sister LOVES steak. Let me tell you, this plate is huge. Just ask for the vegetarian plate (no mozzarella if you're vegan). It's not on the menu, but they have it. It's a plate filled with portobello mushroom, red peppers, asparagus, eggplant, zucchini, mozzarella and maybe a couple of other ingredients I might have missed, all in what seemed to be a tomato based bisque sauce. Excuse me if I butchered the foodie jargon. Both the meat and non meat plates come with side salad that they toss for you right next to your table, and I gotta say it's definitely one of my favorite salads. The steak is amazing also. Obviously. 5 stars for the vegetarian/vegan options AND the meat options *chefs kiss. The atmosphere is very intimate and a nice place to celebrate.

I took my wife and my family to dinner at the house of
I took my wife and my family to dinner at the house of prime rib tonight for my wife's special birthday. If I could give 10 stars I would. The owner Joe came by to our table to give us a special welcome and the waiter Markus was the best. From the beginning to the end of our dining experience the food was to die for. Everybody enjoyed the meal and how everything was served to us was also excellent. If your looking for a great restaurant in San Francisco, go no further than the house of prime rib. Once again thank you Joe and Marcus and the chef Tony who delivered our prime rib to our table, 10 stars! I am a native of San Francisco all my life, born and raised. And the people who live here know that the special restaurant in the City, is the house of prime rib.

Unfortunately Not the best prime rib I've had. I've had better prime rib that truly melts in your mouth and aged better elsewhere.

My first experience at House of Prime Rib was a good
My first experience at House of Prime Rib was a good experience. I came here to celebrate a friend's birthday, there was about 30 of us. My first impression here is that it is a pretty nice and bougie restaurant. Bread was served first, then salad. The salad tasted amazing and was mixed well with the salad dressing. Then, the main dish was served. I ordered the House of Prime Rib Cut, medium well. Everything on the plate was flavorful; the cream spinach, mashed potatoes, and prime rib.It was overall a great experience coming to House of Prime Rib and I would definitely come here again.
😒
I come here probably every other year in my 20s and 30s.
It's been a little harder in my 40s as I couldn't get early enough reservations to bring the kiddos. On my birthday my buddies got 8:30 reservations but it had to be a Wednesday. No problem for HOPR!What's still good (and my ratings)+ Ambience is amazing (5/5)+ Service is great (4/5)+ Salad is an acquired taste but consistent every time (4/5)+ Still hungry? Get seconds! (5/5)+ Valet parking for $15 (5/5)+ Bake potato has tons of fixings (5/5)+ Cream of spinach is a great meat compliment (4/5)+ Sourdough bread (4/5)+ Ask for extra Aus jois and it comes very hot (5/5)What could be better (and my ratings)- Prime rib temperature was lukewarm (2/5)- Prime rib aged taste is missing (2/5)- King Henry cut not consistent (3/5)I was excited to come here as it's been a long time. I did have a togo order last year, but it just wasn't the same. Overall I had a great meal thanks to my friends who distracted me from the main course. However, the main course was a bit of a disappointment this time around. At first I thought it was just me, but then I confirmed with my wife that she felt the same.I came here longing for the aged taste which I cannot duplicate at home no matter how great of a cut of meat I buy. This meal was missing that. My guess is that they cut off too much off the aged goodness. I usually can taste it when I get to the bone which is why I order the King Henry cut, but it was very mild tasting. Also, I felt that the meat could've been cut thicker as I noticed half of our table had thicker cuts. It was so noticeable that since it was my birthday my buddy Sherman gave me his much thicker cut. Finally, the meat was just barely warm which eventually became cold too soon. Fortunately, when we asked for more au jois, it came piping hot. That at least warmed up my remaining bits which I gladly devoured. All in all the dining experience was a good one. Our server was friendly, attentive, and laughed at all of our stupid jokes. The restaurant was packed with very little of the patrons masked up when walking between tables. That's ok since the mask mandate has been lifted. The staff remained mask as they should. It's always good to have valet parking in the city. HOPR had my non lux car ready out front when we finished dinner.

I was here in March 17, 2015 and had an amazing experience! The service was amazing and I liked the interior. I got the King Henry VIII Cut and just medium rare. The prime rib was soft and just melted in your mouth! The sides were just seasoned and on point.Overall, amazing experience and I would definitely love to go back here!

While visiting SF, I enjoyed a wonderful dinner with
While visiting SF, I enjoyed a wonderful dinner with friends that I hadn't seen in 3+ years. At first blush, the establishment seems unexpecting from the street; after stepping inside, I was immediately impressed with its classy decor, spacious interior , and professionalism of the staff. Many thanks to Amber (side note: compliments on her cosmetology skills, which easily rival those of LA/SoCal folks!) for providing stellar service and attending to our needs, and the chefs/cooks for a juicy King Henry cut of prime rib complemented by delicious sides.Walking in without a reservation, my colleagues and I had drinks at the bar while waiting for a table. My only criticism is that the Old Fashion cocktail has room for improvement: The glass seemed small/dainty and fit to be held by a child's hand, a single large ice cube would be preferable rather than small ice chips that melt quickly and dilute the drink, the orange peel garnish had thicker pith than peel which produced a bitter taste (seemed like someone literally peeled an orange and sliced up the peel rather than only using the exterior skin that has the aromatics and oils), and smokiness was clearly lacking. I thought that maybe it was a one-off, but the second drink arrived in the same manner, which was clearly the black eye for the evening.
😒

There's already thousands of reviews for this place so I'm
There's already thousands of reviews for this place so I'm just coming here to say that I really appreciate Jackie and Julie who served our table about a week ago on a Sunday evening. Both of them were warm, engaging, and quick. Julie was a champ - we had one slightly unruly group member who made some uncool remarks during dinner. Julie seemed to shrug it off and continued with her excellent service, but I know that might not have been easy. Every day, women face judgment and bear with unwanted remarks, especially in the service industry. Despite a swift kick under the table, this group member didn't stop with the jokes and for that we apologize!Thank you Julie for your patience and kindness despite the off-color remarks. The service was wonderful and the food was great, especially the salad (which is funny to say at a Prime Rib restaurant).
😍
Fantastic food and service! Everyone went above and beyond.
Must get there right when they open if you do not have a reservation though. We arrived one minute after opening and got the last two available seats!
🙂
Had the chance to finally visit HOPR after having it be on
Had the chance to finally visit HOPR after having it be on my list for a longggg time! This place is a traditional SF establishment - and if you want to go here, definitely make sure to make reservations if you want to go at a good time and not have to wait. We decided to go a few days before and ended up getting a 9:30 reservation on a Sunday night. After a long hike - we finally ended up in HOPR and were promptly seated.I ended up ordering the House of Prime Rib cut, and was lucky to get it with a bone! The meat was super tender and went well with the Au Jus. I got the creamed spinach and mashed potatoes and gravy as sides and this was delicious. The Yorkshire pudding came crispy and soft, and went well with the Au Jus - definitely a more eggy flavor though. I also tried the salad which was delicious. Once I finished the meat, they gave me another smaller round which was delicious as well. Definitely a great place to try - and an awesome SF staple you must check out if you love prime rib!
You'll being a cows thigh worth of meat, but definitely well cooked and high quality foods with great service. I'm not much of a meat person, but it definitely blew me away. Will be coming back every now and again!
As always, delivered a fantastic meal. The place was packed but we managed to get a booth again in Antonio's station. He was spot on and great as usual. Meat, potatoes, salad, sautéed spinach, all excellent. Dropping one star as the bread was different and not as good. But more importantly, very disappointed they put dining tables in the bar area so it's much tougher to find a place to sit and enjoy one of their speciality cocktails. Hope they rethink that and restore the charming bar area.
😍
Best dining experience our family ever had.
Make a reservation and go. You deserve it

Yeah I know this place has thousands of reviews and this review will probably be meaningless. The Hopper gives me so much anxiety. I only go for family birthdays but when I do Always order the King Henry the VIII cut. This cut is always widely different in size. It can very dramatically by 4-8oz which is a lot when we are talking about a $52 piece of prime rib. They also do this tricky swoop cut and scam you out of a full piece of prime rib. I have been here over a dozen times over the years and about 25% to 33% of the time you get ripped off. I rarely complain since it's always a family event and not my birthday so I suck it up. Managers are not responsive to this quantity and quality issues by email or phone. Long story short buyer beware. You can have a amazing dinner or it can be horrible and if you get the food to go your pretty much rolling the dice.
🤮
This one star goes to the bar.
The service at the bar was awful. Bartender was overworked and, ultimately, rude to the guests. The restaurant is crowded, but they need to improve their bar service.

I loved the place the only issue I had was this lady who was checking our I.D had the Ordasity to judge me on my appearance when I easily could've hurt her feelings but decided not to just lightly put her in check only because I was in a good mood food is amazing workers upstairs were ok a bit moody except this nice waitress it was very busy but she pulled it off and did great we had a chat and we understood eachother :)

Been coming here since a little kid for 20+ years whenever I get the chance to visit SF. Always a great experience, simply the best and one of my favorite places.
😍
FIRST TIME HERE and wow just wow.
check in was a breeze waited about 5 mins to get seated. one of the best services we ever received. Always wanted to try this place but you need to book months in advance. If you are looking for some bomb salad and prime rib this is your spot. Salad by itself was very big portions sheesh. I got the King henry cut and that thing was bigggg.... my kids got their kids menu and my wife had the light cut. together we had all the sides. Mash potatoes, spinach, cream corn and baked potato's everything was so freaking good. parking situation its pretty busy and if you are lucky you can find a parking garage a few blocks away for just pay for valet parking for 14 bucks.
😍
IF YOU LOVE YOUR MEATS.
... FIGURE OUT RESERVATIONS FOR HOPR ASAP.The notorious spot in the city for it's mouthwatering prime rib. (If you come here you HAVE to get a prime rib cut. Why else would you be here?) Finally got to cross this iconic spot off my MUST TRY B4 I DIE list on a Tuesday night, and even then the place was a full house. This place doesn't play for sure. Excellent service all around. From entry/check in, waiters, bartenders, the chef's, the drinks, food.... everything! I ordered the King Henry VIII Cut (medium rare) with cream of spinach and mashed potatoes... and of course extra Au Jus. It was the best decision I could have ever made that day. All of this in ONE bite is more than heaven in your mouth, especially with a long legged Cab Sauv to sip on after every bite. Every entrée includes: sourdough bread, salad, and Yorkshire pudding. Be careful not to go too hard with sourdough bread. It comes out warm and has the perfect crust and fluffiness inside. Slather the butter on it and you'll be full before the main entree comes out. The salad is tossed right in front of you and is served in a generous portion. Fresh and flavorful. The Yorkshire pudding was absolute chef's kiss. Beautifully crispy and flaky on the outside but delicate in the inside. Drooling just remembering it. Definitely am counting my days till I'm back!!
We have friends that booked a reservation months ahead for 4 people. We arrived on time. Waited for 12 mins and had drinks. The place was packed. Bring your vaccination card and ID (as of 030822).We sat in our booth by the bar and proceeded to enjoy the piping hot bread w butter. We ordered our desired cuts of meats. A glass of white wine (hana?) 2 gin (sapphire) martinis and an old fashion. (2 rounds total)The food arrived quickly, the chef was introduced and our desired cuts were served. I had the house cut, w creamed spinach and mash potato. The others had theirs (not sure about their cuts)Yorkshire pudding was served for everyone and we started to throw down!!This place was buzzing with delightful conversation, and people milling about.Definitely, doesn't look like there was a pandemic anymore. For desert, we had the apple crisp x 4 spoons. Sweet and decadent the crisp topping was nice and the warm apple along w the ice cream was awesome.I wish I ordered some coffee also (shucks) wldve been perfect.Anyways, the valet parking was $14 - well worth it, rather than parking your car on the street somewhere yourself. The service was nice. The bill came, it came out to be about $410. I generously left a tip. The server was Manolo and he was attentive, little late w the 2nd wine and forgot the creamed corn my friend ordered. Overall he was great.I really couldnt find a fault w the evening, I want to give them 4.5 star due to the small service snapfu and the fact that not everyone can afford this dinner...but, I definitely feel that overall it leaned more towards the 5th star. So, I gave it!!You shd try and go yourself, its worth it if you are a meat eater. Rumor has it that they also have real good fish dishes (Salmon and Bass)Great job House of Prime Rib!!
😍
Customer service is an absolutely great.
We requested to sit by the fireplace on a busy night, surprisingly they sat us down on a table of 4 for a birthday dinner. This is the best prime rib we ever had, so juicy and tender specially cooked in well done. Not like any other restaurants, a well done meat but you get a piece of dry, chewy meat. Also recommend to try with the cream spinach, sweet corn and bake potato. My family and friends came here for the last 20-26 years, House of Prime Rib never let them down!
🤢
In November of 2021 I went to the HOPR.
Party of 4. We were celebrating 3 birthdays. But I also had to oder 3 dinners to go because it was my nephew's birthday on October 30th and he couldn't come to the restaurant due to having to be fully vaccinated. I was so in the change of rules bamecause we had waited 9 months for his reservation and it had been 3 years since he had been here. Anyway, there were some mix ups about the food to go while in the restaurant. We receive the wrong $ pricing. Having gotten this straighten out. We left with the 3 orders to go and low and below, none of the 3 orders were correct. There were missing items, substitutions made . We were not given the correct items and the meat was not cooked as requested. My nephew and his girlfriend were so upset and sadden about their food. I called the restaurant and requested that a manager give me a call as I had spent $498 for 7 meals and I too was upset. It tool me this long to make this post because apparently I had a reservation for yesterday which I don't remember making. I canceled the reservation because I'm not certain that I want to ever eat here again. I usually make about 4 ton6 reservations per year. If you order food to go triple check it.
