A sensational spot for a big birthday party
Huerta's was end-to-end great. Jonah Miller (the chef) was attentive, courteous, and professional with arranging the booking. There were no surprises when it came to the bill. The private room is laid out well with a sense of still being a bit a part of the main restaurant. Above all, the food was nothing short of excellent. We did the Family Style with patas bravas, manchego, padrons, a shrimp and a sausage dish as mains. Getting food on the table for 35 people at once must be difficult, most of the time it isn't very good. These were all dishes clearly selected and prepared with care, and they really worked scaled up. Then I had a birthday cake for 20-25 brought in from outside, which the crew magically managed to cut into 35 (thanks for that!). I'd choose then again in a second!
Be the first to ReplyGood Spanish in East Village
Good Spanish cooking in this east village tapas style restaurant. The Serrano ham was lean and thinly sliced, the croquetta Jarmon, nice, though one croquetta was cold in the center, the steelhead trout, very good, as was the chorizo and winter greens. Service is good with a decent Spanish wine selection. Atmosphere is nice too.

I ate dinner here last Sunday with friends. The service was excellent and I liked the ambiance in the restaurant. I previously lived in Spain for a year, so I have a pretty good idea of what tapas I like. The gin and tonics were excellent and the tapas were overall great, but my favorites were the deliciously crispy patatas bravas and Galician style pulpo.
Be the first to ReplySuperb food and excellent service
We dined here the Friday following NYC's relaxing of mask rules and the whole city was jumping, including Huertas, which was packed full by the time we left. But the service was attentive and timely. And the great thing about tapas is the food comes out as it's ready, so we never waited too long for the next delicious morsel.
And delicious it was, all of it! I could go through the list of everything we ate, but will simply state that everything was a hit, so whatever suits your appetite, order away!!
The atmosphere is very European, with a number of tables outside, under cover. not sure how much longer the city will let them keep it up, but ask for a table outside if you can.
A wonderful dining experience!
Our family visited Huertas recently and loved it. Great food, excellent wine and our waitress, Katie, was fantastic. I appreciate how conscientious the staff is about mask wearing and social distancing. I also noticed that unlike many restaurants, Huertas has hot water in its men's restroom, which always makes me feel more confident that the restaurant sweats the details on cleanliness. Having has such a great experience, we will be coming back to Huertas soon!
Be the first to ReplyNice atmosphere, average food
Made a dinner reservation for the 7 of us at Huertas when we were in New York City in Jan 2020 as had read some good reviews about the restaurant. The atmosphere was nice and lively, the service so-so and the quality of the food just average. Also, we found it overpriced for a restaurant that serves tapas size dishes of average quality.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal. The hardest part was deciding what to order. We were not disappointed. The owner stopped by our table and was gracious to take the time and give us a little bit of the history of Huertas. This was a delightful experience and brought me back to the time I had spent in Spain. The wonderful thing about Tapas is the ability to experience many different dishes. I would most definitely go back.

I picked Huertas after reading a book called "Generation Chef". It is about chef Jonah Miller leaving another restaurant to open Huertas. The book follows the trials, tribulations and glories of surviving as a new restaurant in a very competitive market.
The restaurant is a Spanish/Basque theme and I made the reservation on Thursday for Friday dinner. When we walked in I mentioned to the host that I had read the book. He made no comment but lead us to a table. When my wine and my wife's Bees Knnes cocktail arrived, so did chef Jonah. He was very gracious and took a few minutes from working the line to chat.
Dinner for us was a collection of small tapas plates (they call them pinxtos) and each was better than the last. Tuna salad and their signature saffron fried rice were the best. Service was good and pacing of delivery was just right. Price is moderate
Disappointing Huertas
Huertas was a disappointment.
Let me start with the good part, the staff and service was very good and attentive.
The food is another story altogether.
Potato bravas among the simplest dishes was overly crispy as though they were triple fried, huevos rotos on the other hand were undercooked slivers of potatoes that had to be sent back(we have had this dish countless times in Spain and the only resemblance this dish had was the egg on top) we had the octopus and this was ok. The fried chicken was ok as well but nothing special. The croquetas were overly fried and tasted as though they were fried in oil that had not been hot enough. The tortilla espaรฑola was also not bad a 3 out of 5. The shishito peppers were overly fried. Saffron fried rice was passable but nothing special. Pan con tomate was covered in tomato and tasted ok but nothing like you would get in Spain. The salad with blue cheese was overly dressed and soggy.
Granted I will have to say that having lived in Spain and traveling there often I may be overly critical. But I will say that I can not recommend Huertas the food is sub par and overpriced. It might be worthwhile to have a chef who is from Spain and truly knows the cuisine!
Skeptical
Looked at the menu ahead of time and was not quite sure what to think of the place. What a mistake! Friends picked out a great selection and we love the food.

We, a party of 3. went to this restaurant on a Thursday. The restaurant is quite popular and it is good to have a reservation. We were seated right away. The restaurant has a large bar near the entrance and then some seat at the back. Further back, they have beautiful room for large parties.
This place is like most of the new places the food is to share. We had few beers and house olive and pickles and pan con tomate.
Then, we had clams. shisito peppers, roasted mushrooms, octopus and blue prawns.
The food is really outstanding. Service is very friendly and efficient. Can't wait to go back.
