Staff is very friendly and welcoming.
We had a very good waiter. The food lacked in salt and spices. We ordered the ceviche as an appetizer and the taste was good but definitely needed salt. When we got our main dish, they weren't really flavorful. I had the mahi and he had a steak. For a place like this I would except the food to be exceptional, but it was not.

Do NOT get the ceviche! I've never had dry ceviche in my life until this experience. Not good. At first I was blaming myself for getting ceviche in the middle of the country but it's a FISH bar. Don't get fooled like i did. The chocolate mousse cake, on the other hand is giant and delicious!
Be the first to ReplyWe came here on a Saturday night.
The place was packed. Full of mostly tourists and families. The atmosphere is very much a diner on steroids type of feel. Bright lights, really loud, cheesy old music playing in the background with huge plastic menus and strung out wait staff. We were seated right away. The service was friendly but down to business because they were clearly overworked. We started with the crab and avocado. The vinaigrette on top was super over powering and as wee the capers so a lot of the subtle flavors of the crab were lost. Then we had the Bookbinder fish stew. That was actually delicious, super rich, super complex, super unique. It was my favorite thing about this place. We shared the Chilean sea bass for dinner. It was good but sauce was a little too sweet and over powering for the gentle fish. Over all the food is mediocre, the service is fine but won't blow your mind, the ambiance is Cheesecake Factory meets Olive Garden in downtown Chicago---definitely not an intimate place to have a mind blowing meal.

Starting with the service that Josiah provided was phenomenal. The food was amazing. We did a tower which I failed to take a picture of. My Kids (14 & 17) and I tried frog legs and escargot which was absolutely delicious. We were recommended by family and friends and they did not disappoint.

Frog legs and the Spicy Tuna Roll were rhetorical best items on the menu for small dates when you aren't starving. I tried the calamari but had to send it back once since it was undercooked. The 2nd time around made the dish taste way better! Service was great, our waitress was understanding in managing our disappointment throughout the night. The ambiance was classic pub, quality wood furniture and nice nooks for date night.

Went for a birthday celebration, as usual everything was excellent! We had already decided we wanted a salad and the skirt steak with the lobster mac n cheese. Rene our server was very hospitable and helped us decide on our additional choices. We tried the mussels and salmon for the first time and they were both amazing. It was a great celebration down to the drinks and dessert! Rene is definitely a plus to your organization!

My mom and sister took me out for my birthday on 3/19 and of course they took me to my FAVORITE restaurant in the city...Hugo's Frog Bar! We had an amazing experience. From the food, to the service and the overall ambiance- we had a great time. Per usual, we started with a round of martinis. For an appetizer we chose the mussels. Great choice and a very generous amount of mussels. We all ordered salads and then we ordered multiple dishes to share. We love a girl dinner where we split various dishes while we sip martinis and catch up! The walleye was excellent! The girls also loved the crab Mac and cheese, do not skip this dish! The skirt steak never misses and was cooked to perfection. However, the best part of the experience was the top notch service. We always request Rene as our waiter because he provides exceptional service every time. At the end of the meal he brought out Key Lime Pie for my birthday and himself and Frank sang Happy Birthday. It was lovely! Such old school Chicago vibes. The overall atmosphere of Hugo's is what continues to bring us back time and time again. We ended the birthday dinner the best way possible- with a round of espresso martinis. Thanks for the GREAT birthday experience Hugo's!

Probably the best frog legs in Chicago served with a butter lemon sauce that is phenomenal. Made a reservation for happy hour but the bar had a decent wait the manager sat us in a table next to the bar and let the serve know. Great service and multiple people checked in on us. The server explained the menu well and made suggestions. For the oysters we mix and matched different kinds which allows you try east and west coast. Cocktails were strong and presented nice, overall great place to grab apps and drinks with friends or date night for dinner.

The food was amazing ! Frog legs weee thick and juicy, avocado crab was fantastic and super tasty! Oysters had 3 of each and they were all great but particularly liked the royal miyagi the most. Crab cake was good - can't go wrong there Wasn't too much of a fan of the escargot but everything else was delicious! Would highly recommend
Be the first to ReplyWe finally made it down to Hugo's.
It's located on Rush Street next door to its sister store Gibsons. This place stays busy. We arrived on time and had to wait a few minutes for our table to clear up. Overall the service was friendly, but a little too slow at the beginning. It took longer than usual time to place our order in. The food however, was fantastic. My wife ordered their Lake Superior Whitefish. It came with plenty of mash potatoes, grilled onions and tomatoes. The fish itself was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I ordered their Shrimp de Jonghe. You get eight lightly breaded in bread crumbs and garlic, served on top of basmati rice. This is one of my favorite dishes of all time and it definitely hit the spot. I would have preferred a little bit more breading, but overall great flavor. They also start you off with a soup or salad. We of course both chose their clam chowder soup. That also tasted phenomenal. Will definitely be returning.

Be the first to ReplyGreat food and service.
The escargot is great and the sushi is very fresh. It's a great place to go for people with a big group and would like a variety of options as it is connected to gibsons and you can get steak here as well.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a fantastic dinner experience Saturday night.
Our sever, Denice, was exceptional in every way. Not kidding, she was one of the best server's I have ever had. Our entire meal was outstanding. Hugo's, you knocked it out of the ballpark. Thank you. John Tex

It was packed during our 7:00 reservation; every seat was taken. The menu offered a number of appealing and somewhat interesting options -- yes, they do serve frog legs. We ordered a variety of appetizers, entrees and dessert. Everything was incredibly fresh and well executed. The wait staff was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Highly recommend.

Had an excellent meal here on a Monday evening seated at the bar. The bartender was great; attentive and friendly. Had a very good bowl of clam chowder before my 10 oz filet mignon. The steak was cooked perfect and was an excellent cut. Dessert was a huge slice of pecan pie. It was all a great dining experience highlighted by an excellent steak and great service.

If you want steak go to Bellevue, Gibson, any other restaurant. Just get the fish at Hugo. Ordered medium +. Got it rare, sent it back, came back well done. Spinach not sautéed. The manager said he'd take it off the bill! No kidding ....we couldn't eat it. It was our 35th anniversary and only my husband got a meal. We live in the neighborhood. This is typical of Hogo

Honestly I was apprehensive about this place because I wasn't sure if it was a tourist spot and also the pictures of the food didn't look the best but WOW I was pleasantly surprised. Service was phenomenal, Denice our waitress was amazing. I didn't feel rushed and I haven't experienced that good of service in Chicago anywhere else, she is amazing. The food was so good, I was so full after the dinner and I didn't make room for dessert, maybe next time. It was my first time eating frog legs and they were delicious. Cocktails were strong and good too. I'm shocked I haven't been to this place before, Gibsons knows what they're doing with these restaurants!

Went for the happy hour special and had a great time! We sat at the bar and got $1 oysters, half price wine bottles and some extras. Everything was delicious but most importantly our bartender Brant was so amazing! He was attentive, timely and polite. Highly recommend!

Be the first to ReplyLarge restaurant with lots of seating.
Our server was very nice and not pretentious compared to other high end restaurants we have visited. The sushi and calamari were very good. The lobster salad was small and comparable to a side salad with about 2 oz of lobster. The middle section where we were seated was by the bathrooms so there was constant people walking by the whole evening.
