An amazing space for the perfect evening
I had my retirement drinks at Humble Grape Canary Wharf. I wanted a space where I could celebrate with 120 friends and colleagues and everything about the place was just right. The venue is perfectly laid out for a big group of people. They spent time with me planning what I wanted and were so accommodating. The people that looked after us on the night were amazing, very friendly and attentive. The food and wine were spot-on and reasonably priced. Such a magical evening for all sorts of reasons, made perfect by such a great host venue. I couldn’t recommend the place higher. Thank you Humble Grape.

Popped in one Saturday afternoon for a quick few drinks. A decent selection of wines by the glass at good range of prices and it’s an ok place to spend an hour or so

Came here with some friends. Upon our arrival, I say “hi, we have a table for 8:30 under x”. The guy says “I’m sorry we don’t have a table for you!” And I reply “but I just called asking to postpone the time…” he insisted no table was booked. I got a feeling that he was trying to be funny which I didn’t appreciate at that moment. I share that if he’s joking it is not funny and I’m not in the mood for it. He tried to fix the situation. Didn’t work. Both my friend an I had octopus and it was very salty for both of us. The dish was so tiny that we had to order more, so we had some salmon that we shared. The salmon came out not cooked, so we had to send it back. The total bill was expensive. I personally paid 31.50 pound for 4 thin slices of octopus and half a dish of salmon that I shared with a friend. The salmon at the end was ok, but I just didn’t like the place overall so I won’t be going back.
Be the first to ReplyBAD ATTITUDE
Absolutely disgusting attitude from staff member when we were 10 minutes late after attempting to ring multiple times. We were refused our reservation after travelling such a long way. But the attitude of the staff member who spoke to my partner was most disappointing, 15 minute grace period is offered at most restaurants, but to then be refused and spoken to so rudely after our long journey and previous history of support was out of line. We have been before and spent £100s of pounds on just one bill. Least we could have expected was a positive and understanding attitude. You’ve lost our custom. I understand staff want to pack up and go home at the end of the night but there was no excuse for the tone in which my partner was spoken to.

Turned up 12 minutes late (exactly) to our table booking, after ringing the restaurant and attempting to inform them that we would be arriving slightly late, since my partner is disabled and we struggled to travel the long distance from the tube stop. I spoke to a staff member and told him that I have a reservation for 2. He just replied saying “yeah… That was at quarter to ten, not this time” I said “yes I’m very sorry we are late” and tried to explain the situation, but he cut me off and said the best he could do is offer me a quick drink. How can a dinner reservation turn into a quick drink in a matter of 12 minutes??? I said to him “it’s only been like what? 10 minutes?” And he just said “kitchens closed, you can have a quick drink”. They closed at 11pm, it was 9:57. I appreciate that the kitchen closes before the entire establishment, but WHY accept a booking for 9:45 if you are going to let people travel all the way to your restaurant and just turn them away for being 10 minutes late? People are late to bookings all day long, I’ve worked in hospitality for years and it is possibly one of the most likely things to ever happen in a restaurant, other than people eating food. We had made it a relationship tradition for us to come to humble grape every time we go to London, because we absolutely adored the food, and we have always had a fantastic experience. But thanks to the extremely rude and condescending member of staff, we won’t be coming back. I understand that the world doesn’t revolve around us and that you can’t wait forever for people, which is why we would have understood if the staff member we spoke to was even the slightest bit apologetic. When you work in hospitality, you apologise for any minor inconvenience, however small it may seem, it’s just a way of life for most people. But it was the sarcastic attitude and instant blame, without even giving me a chance to explain why we might have been late (or answer our calls to notify you prior to arriving late in the first place) and the condescending look on his face. You had two lifelong repeat customers right there, who have told everyone that would listen to us about how amazing your restaurant was on previous visits, and you ruined it with about 3 short sentences and a facial expression.

Loved this place. Menu is fantastic and good offers on Monday. I will definitely return. The burrata is good and so are the padron peppers.

The Humble Grape has completely ruined my Valentine's Day dinner with my partner. Clearly, from other customers reviews on Google, it wasn't just our Valentine's Day evening that was ruined, it has sadly happened to others as well. We arrived on time for our reservation. Firstly, the set menu does not cater to those who have a shellfish allergy, was told if I don't eat oysters, I can order from the ala carte menu which would cost more. Then we waited 45 minutes to be served one starter. From the time we finished our starter to when our mains arrived, it was a one hour wait. Tables nearby who arrived after us were already finishing their food. I asked if they have forgotten my order, but in my opinion I think they lied. If your excuse is that your kitchen is busy, then perhaps you shouldn't be so greedy and take more reservations than you can manage, charging customers a fortune for them to wait 2 hours for food on a special day like Valentine's Day. You would think after waiting 2 hours for our food, that was the end, but no! The chips arrived undercooked! If you can't even get chips cooked, I struggle to understand how this place operates a restaurant. We ended not eating our chips as I didn't have the time to wait for a further 1 hour for it to be replaced. We left the place frustrated and hungry and felt like a waste of our time. Will not come back ever again and will advise anyone I know not to go there.

Service is very slow indeed. One hour between starter and main on Valentine's Day. They said it was because the kitchen was backed up. This is a feeble excuse for a fixed menu when they know how many covers they were seating.
The fixed menu has a seafood starter, which couldn't be changed. They were not prepared to substitute. Their innovative solution was for us to pay the full price of the full menie and they would hold back the starters. Great Valentine's evening, it was not.
Apart from the appalling kitchen management, the waiting staff were good.
Just the place you want to visit !
From the begging to the end my birthday family dinner was just perfect ! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly , we’ve been looks after so so well . I couldn’t ask for more ! Alexandru made my birthday special, beyond welcoming helped us with wine recommendations and made sure we get the best. Started with his favourite sparkling cremant rose and a flight of Riesling then a superb chilled red to go with the delicious food. Definitely coming back.

Such a great selection of food, even better wine! Mauro helped guide us through the menu and ensure we were ever flowing with topped up glasses!

We were looked after by Alex (number 2) from Romania. Bubbly and happy and knowledgeable about wines - what better start to a quiet evening out with my wife? We are both Chardonnay lovers and it was our first experience of a German Chardonnay from Von Winner. Delicious!
A selection of small plates (mainly the veggie ones) but I couldn’t resist a lamb chop and was delighted.
I saw someone in a previous post complaining that they didn’t want to sit outside in the rain with their 60 year old parents. I somehow recall sitting outside at the HG last month, In the rain and in the freezing cold, but then we’re only in our 70’s!!
Not a lover of the purple potatoes- I had forgotten how mealy their texture. The asparagus salad, burrata and spicy cauliflower were however outstanding, as was the aforementioned lamb chop.
Great food, excellent wines.
We've been going to 'the grape" for well over a year now and unfailingly service has been outstanding. This time, it was freezing cold.......and raining, we had the thermals on and had superb evening.
Really sorry to see Romain leaving but Nikolas [ I hope I've spelled that right] will be there. looking forward to our next visit.
Terrible place and staff
I booked a table outside for my Mum’s birthday lunch. I rang in the morning to check my booking, to ask if the outside table had a covering and to ask if I could bring my Mum’s birthday cake to the restaurant. They told me we were one of three tables that would be under cover. Otherwise I would have booked another restaurant as my parents are in their late 60s. Turned up 15 mins early to humble grape to be told that our table would be in the rain. We tried to explain it was my mums birthday and I had rang in the morning. To be told by the Manager that they can’t promise undercover tables. This wasn’t what they told us on the phone and they’ve given our table away. We had to walk around Canary Wharf a group of 5 to find someone to take us and our birthday cake. Awful experience. Luckily Goodman Canary Wharf know true hospitality and how to treat customers.
