Excellent wine spot
Great spot to drop in for a guaranteed good glass of wine. Service offering as much info as you're looking for, but also know when to let you be. Another group were eating and it smelt great too!
Be the first to ReplyA Letdown at Humble Grape: Limited Selection and Lackluster Service
During a recent visit to Humble Grape in Islington, my friends and I encountered a series of disappointments that have led me to write this review . The menu selection, particularly the wine list, was surprisingly limited for a place that prides itself on its vino variety. Service was mediocre at best. An example of this? We got served with coffee saucers instead of proper plates... However, the most distressing part of the evening came at the end. We used their app to split the bill and left a discretionary tip, which we felt was appropriate given the service we received. To our astonishment, the tip did not contribute towards the service charge, and because we did not pay the full 12.5%, the manager confronted us. The insistence on paying the full service charge, despite the subpar service, was not only uncomfortable but also quite outrageous. It's unfortunate when a dining experience is marred by such issues, and it's even more regrettable when management fails to handle the situation with grace and understanding. It goes without saying, we won't be returning.

Lovely wine bar with a great selection of cheeses and hams etc. Met up with some people I didn’t know that well and picking between all the wines helped break the ice. We tried lots of wines in a chilled atmosphere and had a fantastic time. Think it would be a good first date place.
Be the first to ReplyPre theatre meal -spot on
I took my rural aunt who was ahead of a performance at Sadlers Wells. We had a lovely tasty and sophisticated start to our evening. We chose to share some small plates. Everything was delicious but the pork belly dish was fabulous. Service was super as ever. It only takes 10 mins to walk to the theatre so totally recommend for a pre theatre meal.
Be the first to ReplyLovely cote de boeuf
Lovely meal here after finishing at a conference. We chose steak (x3)and a bottle of red. The server recommended the cote de boeuf instead as a sharing plate. Then my colleague saw a bottle of Bartinney Cab Sauv on the shelf and asked for that instead. I had AF Brooklyn Hoppy Lager. The beef was great, a really good suggestion. The red by all accounts was also really good. Lovely venue and food with a passion (as you may expect) for wine.
Be the first to ReplySummer supper happiness
Another super supper at Humble Grape. I love the summer menu. We enjoyed sharing the asparagus, the burrata and the fish carpaccio dishes. All very light, fresh and tasty - just what I want to eat in this glorious weather! My husband then had the steak and chips which is always a winner here. Ambience and staff sophisticated but casual. Firm favourite and highly recommended.

What a lovely find. Booked online as small, what a treat this evening was. Super good and great wine choices. Attentive staff. The Padron peppers were excellent, as well as the burrata, cauliflower & the steak was great.

Great way to kick off the weekend with an early Friday dinner. We shared the March special Malay prawns (with delicious matching pinotage) and then both had the very reliable steak and chips. Super dog friendly.

Popped in for drinks before moving elsewhere for dinner. We were seated at the bar and order two glasses of Prosecco and some nibbles. Smoked almonds were fabulous and the olives were ok. I had a good look around the upstairs dining areas that looked reasonably full at 7:00 pm. Menu was interesting and the new bar staff was getting to spread after an hour of us interacting with him. The main host was on the ball with service of welcoming and making people at ease.

Return visit to this local treasure for Saturday lunch. We love the focus on seasonal ingredients and small producer wines. I really enjoyed the smoked salmon with kumquats and chilli, followed by the chicken, celeriac and barley dish. OH had the reliable steak and chips.
Be the first to Replytable way too small
My friend and I were booked to have a bottle of wine and some food We were sat on a tiny table and ordered 4/5 dishes, so 4/5 plates. the waiter brought them to us - saw no room on the table and looked at the floor - as if he was going to put them down there ! we asked to move to a larger table - but were told no - even although there was a bigger table next to us - which was empty. the atmosphere, food, and wine were all good - but please have appropriate tables for people ordering food.
Be the first to ReplyOne of my top places in Islington
We visited for an early early supper and I really enjoyed the slow cooked poussin with a tarragon jus and sautéed potatoes. My OH played it safe and had a steak with fab chips. The peppercorn sauce is the best.

With regret I cannot fault the service of this place and the bad faith of the staff. We make a reservation for 9.30pm using opentable and the reservation is accepted. We arrive at 21:36 and the manager tells us to wait, after 5 minutes she tells us to go to the bar for a drink while we wait for them to free our table. So we do. At 10 pm they make us sit down and when it comes to ordering they tell us that the kitchen closes at 9:40 pm. So we ask for the bill and they charge us 40 for 3 glasses of wine that they suggested to us. We leave very hungry and very sad for the treatment also received by the manager's colleague who treated us like criminals. I will certainly not return for bad faith and I advise you not to go to them. As soon as we arrived we were told that the kitchen was closed, the worst thing was to make us wait and then say that the kitchen was closed after selling us three glasses of wine to wait. Never go

Came to try a bit of everything; we ended up splitting some starters and a sharing platter, as well as getting the month wine flight. Food and wine were excellent; manager was very friendly and helpful with the wine. We'll be back.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible food, great atmosphere, brilliant service
Recently had food and drinks at humble grape with some work colleagues. Brilliant array of starters and the hake was lovely and fresh. We paired with the house white which was suggested by our waiter Kit who was very accommodating and it proved to be a perfect compliment.
Be the first to ReplyI am old so so ignore this review
Popped in for pre-theatre supper. It seems popular and it's certainly very friendly with a nice atmosphere. If I am less enthusiastic than others it might be my age which is not the restaurant's fault. My wife had 2 starters and enjoyed them both. I opted for 6 items of cheese /charcuterie at £24 which (in my view) were neither good nor bad. Was the cheese served at room temperature? Does that matter? Am I mistaken? Possibly. My view is that it is not difficult to get really great quality cheese and meats - so why bother eating the ordinary stuff. We are lucky enough to have a Neal's Yard Dairy in Islington which provides cheeses which, when served at room temperature, are a joy to eat. By the way, ignore the pre-theatre menu displayed on the outside of the restaurant. It is not available any more, we were told.
Be the first to ReplyBubbly place but average overpriced food and wine
One of the most appealing places in Islington as good atmosphere and great to be surrounded by hundreds of bottles. Popped in for a glass and a bite. Thought there would be more wines by the glass. The Viognier was pleasant but overpriced at over £8. The fish platter was pretty average at a very overpriced £33 with very poor goujons..

Love this place and the plaice dish on the new menu. Service is super, atmosphere is casually sophisticated and the wine selection is fab.
Be the first to ReplyGreat evening, even if you are a wine virgin
The staff are incredibly approachable, our party had a mixed knowledge of wine and yet the staff still picked out perfect options for us. Returning as soon as we can
Be the first to ReplyWine bar with great food!
Terrific Saturday lunch of flatiron steak and chunky chips with some beautifully dressed tenderstem broccoli. Peppercorn and chimichurri sauces both delicious. Service super and surrounded by racks of wonderful wine. Fab!
Be the first to ReplyGreat bottomless brunch
Had a bottomless brunch. Really great food..the bottomless was a fabulous idea that you could alternate between Prosecco, white or red. Our waiter Sean was fabulous, attentive and a perfect host.

Marchioness van de Kloipt
I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough. Make sure if you book a table here, that you get to meet the lovely Rashaun and Sean who are not just waiters, but also talented artists in their own right. If it were possible to give six stars, I would. A gorgeous little spot with a warm vibe. Thank you!
