Great decor, food...meh
Beautiful place, the decor is truly beautiful. But the food? Overpriced and VERY underwhelming. We went right before the New YEAR and perhaps that contributed to the experience but....please, do not serve grapefruit juice which is clearly fermented. Also burata should be liquid inside and should ooze and spread lovingly while cut in half. If it doesn't, if it has crumbles inside it means only one thing, it was frozen and defrosted. WHO does that? Well, I did once and that's how I know. After that orange juice and the burrata (in fact two of them, for my adult child and myself), you kind of lost me. The presentation of the food did not match the decor, the side dishes were just veggies piled on top of plate, no garnish, no beautiful. For $20 I expect my mushrooms to be nicely presented. And my burrata fresh. I am not sure who this place caters to but the servers were either very unengaged, or so reverent as to make me uncomfortable. It gave the whole experience a little weird vibe. If you like this kind of treatment and have big bucks o spare, do go there! As I said, the decor is great!

We visited H&F before a show and were very pleased across the board. Fantastic wine selection and the food was equally as good. We ordered the seafood salad to start and if we return, Iโd pass.. it was fresh, just not for us. The steaks were flavorful and cooked perfectly, The truffle tots were delicious - and huge! Would definitely recommend!
Be the first to ReplyPoor service for a fine dining restaurant.
I took 4 business associated to "Hunt & Fish Club" in NYC for a business dinner on a Saturday evening. The bar as you enter is dark and moody with an impressive selection of liquor. Moving into the dining room again the lighting and ambience was good. Once seated we were served drinks and then it was almost a full hour before anyone came to take a food order or to deliver the bread. This poor inattentive level of service continued for the duration of our meal from our server Aaron R. Regarding the food the Shrimp Cocktail I had was good (but I have had better at other fine dining restaurants) and my 16oz Ribeye Steak was very good, cooked perfectly, tender and tasty. In total our meal was over US$1,000 (for 2 courses) and honesty whilst the food was good the service let down the experience. For this reason I have rated my visit 'Average'.

Went to this place before seeing a show for dinner. Our waiter Jorge was beyond delightful! Pop overs with some herb butter is complementary and they are huge! The bone marrow appetizer was my favorite of the night. For my entree, I ordered the Gnocchi with lobster and caviar. Everything was melt in your mouth good. The only thing I would not have ordered was the truffle tater tots. They were good but they are made in house and were huge and dense and definitely not what I would call a tater tot. It was a fantastic way to start a trip in NY, absolutely recommend!

Before theater reservation, ate in no rush thanks to the attentive service. Ordinarily I am not comfortable sitting in the middle of a restaurant, but the mirrored pole next to our table made it feel more intimate. Our drinks were delivered after our soup, which was the only negative we encountered regarding the service. My wife's tuna was dry (overcooked) but the sauce was excellent. On the other hand, my scallops were perfect -- and again the sauce was excellent. Sounds like a small thing, but we never had to ask for more water -- excellent service!

On our annual holiday visit to NYC, my wife and I dined at the Hunt and Fish Club. The restaurant has a sleek city vibe with a full bar and bar seating and an elegant dining room. Service was very professional. We began with appetizers of a wedge salad and baked shrimp. The wedge was very fresh with tomato, bacon, avocado and blue cheese and the shrimp were savory in a vodka sauce with shallots. Entrees were the seared scallops over a sweet potato puree with Kale and bacon and the branzino in a lemon caper pesto sauce. Both were excellent. We shared an apple tart for dessert. The evening was very nice. For an elegant dinner try the Hunt and Fish Club.

Booked an anniversary dinner here and was not disappointed. A superb meal with attentive but not intrusive service through out. Good food, good wines and good service - what's not to like and appreciate.

Not quite we've expected, don't let the beautiful decor fool you as it stops there - staff needs to pay more attention to diners.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect elegant restaurant
Not a private club , but an excellent upscale meal. Elegant restaurant with excellent meals. Large broiled lobsters and excellent steaks . Everything we had was excellent ,delicious and served well. Extensive and fairly expensive wine list although some reasonable bottles . Certainly they could satisfy wine snobs with the selections. Nice rum selection also. Excellent ,attentive service , but not effusive. Great for a party or a special evening . Right in the heart of NYC theatre district.

One of my New York favorites! Excellent food and service, elegant but not stuffy, and they are acutely most everyone there is going to the theater and they make certain you have a pleasant experience but leave on time. Nicely done!

Except for our server (order taker) our food was excellent, large portions well prepared. A bit noisy so don't look for a special date dinner. They serve large hot popovers instead of the typical bread basket. Our dessert was excellent but disappointing in portion size for the price charged. We would certainly return again despite the lack of attitude by our server.
Be the first to ReplyThe Good, the Bad & The Ugly
We were travelling from the UK to NY.C to meet our daughter who lives in Toronto. We have wanted to go to Hunt and Fish since before COVID and managed to book a table weeks before when reservations opened. The Good - The restaurant looks great, has a fab ambience and the Food is excellent. The quality and cookery of the food is excellent! The Bad - we were shown to a table in an annexe of the restaurant by the Toilets with no atmosphere where there were 4 tables. There was no explanation other than the restaurant was full! The service was non existent and the diners on the 4 tables were ignored. We met a lot of other diners on there way to/from the WC! The red wine was corked but no staff to complain to. The Ugly - I showed my disapproval by not giving a tip on a $400 check where we ( 3 of us) were in/out of the restaurant on a Saturday night within 1 1/4 hours of arriving. The waitress told the manager that we didnโt tip and he came over. My wife explained the issue and he was non plused. As we left another one of the Managers asked for our feed back and she was a lot more apologetic but tried the explain the room had a nice chandelier and we should have complained! My advice to anyone visiting this restaurant is to challenge them if they show you to the annex and refuse to eat there! It is quite scandalous and a โRip offโ. If one is paying $150_$200 per head you want the whole experience! Russell Nathan

Food was delicious but our server was outstanding! Hubby got swordfish. It was a perfect sized portion and not overly flavorful, just right. I got the boneless rib eye it was what you would expect from a ribeye nothing special. Our sides were tater tots that were recommended however we didnโt care. The creamed spinach was to die for! We also indulged in the grilled bacon which was very fatty, good thing we added the beet salad. Star of the night was the popovers they served to start!

We made reservations here for our last night in NYC and it didn't disappoint! We arrived prior to the restaurant opening at 5 and were able to get a seat at the bar to enjoy a glass of wine. The bar and restaurant were both beautiful spaces and our waitress & waiter both were constantly checking on us to ensure a fantastic experience. We had the seafood salad, salmon, and scallops, which were all delicious. Really enjoyed that they offered Turnbull by the glass, as it's one I really enjoy! Expect to pay over $100pp, but it is well worth it!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Gem on Time Square
We are staying literally next door at AKA and thought we give this a try. Everything around Times Square is usualy of questionable quality but this is a gem. Very chic, multiple rooms , staging is stylish and. Modern . The service impeccable the food outstanding. We ordered a simple beet salad and tasting size of pasta and had salmon and branzino as main courses . Needless to say whoever cooks in there knows what they are doing. The dishes are tasty and inventive without being pretentious . Out little blueberry cheesecake deconstructed auf ice cream rounded this meal up beautifully. When in this area not to be missed
Be the first to ReplyGreat place to eat before heading to the theater
This restaurant was amazing! The atmosphere is wonderful. The staff was excellent. We had several servers working our table. The food? WOW! The baked stuff lobster was incredible. There is so much on the menu, it was difficult to choose one item!
Reservations are recommended. If you are going to have a great night on the town in NYC, this is the place to start!
Good place for theater dinner
This is an excellent location for a lot of the theatres on 44th Street. A little pricey, but they get you out on time for the show curtains.

Impeccable service, delicious food in an inviting atmosphere, the 3 essential components of a great restaurant experience. It was a spontaneous lunch choice that will become a future planned experience

We, a group of friends, had tickets to a show with an early curtain call of 7 pm. We made reservations for 5:30 and advised we would be pressed. We were never rushed and felt totally relaxed. Everything was served timely and well cooked.
We started at the bar with an espresso martini while we waited for the full party. The martinis were very good and just what we needed for a predinner drink to relax.
The wine list was extensive and we did enjoy both a red and white selection that was recommended. The appetizer and dinner choices were delicious and we all enjoyed our meals, almost too full for dessert, but we did manage to find room for a last sweet course. .
First Class Service, Great Ambiance, Good Food
We stopped for dinner after a long day of sight-seeing and chose the Hunt & Fish Club because it was near our hotel. We were not dressed well and once upon entering we realized that is was a very nice restaurant. The staff was very gracious and welcoming and assured us that we were fine and seated us promptly. After eating in so many restaurants in NY that are cramped, it was nice to have seating that was spaced out so nicely. The interior is lovely and the service throughout the meal was lovely.
The food was very good. 2 of us started with the lobster bisque. It was good, with large pieces of lobster - my only comment is I have a preference for a stronger flavor of sherry in my bisque and found this lacking somewhat. I then had the tasting portion of the wild mushroom pappardelle as my entree. It was very good. The pappardelle tasted homemade and the sauce was wonderful and very rich. The tasting portion was generous and very filling. The other meals were very good as well. One of our 13 year olds got the side of Mac & Cheese as her entree and declared it to be the best sheโd ever had and the side was so large, she did not even finish it.
As for value, our meal for 4 which included only 1 glass of wine was $180 before tip. Being from the Midwest, we found the price steep for the food. But the service matched the price. We should have read the menu posted outside more carefully.
Such a disappointment
Selected the restaurant based on location, great reviews, and availability. It was such a disappointment. A group of seven of us arrived at 5:30 for our reservation. The restaurant has the moody low light atmosphere decorated nicely. The waiter started off by asking us if we were going to a show. We appreciated him being attentive to our time constraints and recommendations for a smooth service. The show wasnโt until 8 and keep in mind we were seated at 5:30. That was the end of our food service. We barely saw our waiter after that. I asked for black napkin twice because he couldnโt be bothered. While clearing the table one of the attendants dropped silverware down by back. Our waiter was MIA during the meal. When we finally received dessert menus it was too late to order anything. Then we had to wait for check. It was now after 7:30. Our group had to split up leaving two people to finish with the check so we didnโt miss it.
The food was good and reasonably priced but no food memory (nothing Iโd come back for). The popovers were overcooked. Crab cake lackluster. I expected more from a place that specialized in meat and seafood. The gnocchi was good but not special.
I was so disappointed. We were celebrating a special occasion and the venue did not do it justice primarily because of the service. I wonโt be back
