Super fun restaurant with live music! There's almost always no wait as they have a large location. My only gripes about this place is that it can be very dark, extremely loud from the live music (to the point where you can't hear your friends talking), and it's quite pricey. I tried their fried noodle, fried rice, roasted chicken, salted egg yolk pumpkin jelly, braised eggplant, potato, and crispy shrimp. The stars were the fried rice, salted egg yolk pumpkin jelly, eggplant, and potato. They have large restrooms, so there's never a wait to use the bathroom. And they are conveniently located near Koreatown. The menu is extensive with meat, seafood, veggie, and carb items. I came here twice on my last NYC trip and both times were pretty good. Expect to pay about $40-50 per person depending on what/how much you order.
Be the first to ReplyA group of people came here and the place was interesting.
It had live music that was sung in English and Chinese. The food was good but the only bad part was they didn't give you serving spoons for each dish, which is family style. Cash is king and you'll get a discount if you pay that way. After 9pm they have happy hour for beer, which was sold for 6 at $42 or 12 at $78 and had about seven beers to pick from.

Very fond memories here because I met Henry Goulding when I came for my sisters bday! This is a great spot for large groups since there are long tables and family style portions. Their garlic eggplant was fire
Be the first to ReplyFun spot.
Great singing, ambiance, and decent food overall. The singers sing very well, and it's worth coming here just to listen to them alone.Alcohol is a bit more expensive, which is fine, but they did not have most sake in-stock so we had to order the expensive bottles over and over, without discount. That was a major miss.

The deco was fabulous. And the staff are attentive without being in to of you. Able to chill. Will be back

This is a cute spot for a birthday dinner with a large group of friends! They do have private rooms upstairs but there is a minimum spend if you do. If you reserve without specifying a room, I believe there is no minimum spend. The food was really good! We loved all the dishes we ordered- from the cabbage to the Mapo tofu to the roasted chicken. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The drink prices are what you'd expect in the city. I ordered the red wine sangria and the pina colada and enjoyed both. The service was a little slow though but the staff were all friendly and accommodating. They can even help bring the cake out with a light up birthday sign, which made the birthday person feel special. The restaurant's interior was also beautiful and open. They have live performances at night, which can get a little loud if you're sitting on the floor, but they're fun! Would definitely be an option I'd recommend for large group events near K-Town and Herald.
Be the first to Replyi really like this place.
it's large, really eclectically and nicely decorated inside, high ceilings, spacious, and has some cool ambience with the music and live singing. been twice now and i really like the food. was consistent both times. my favorite was the crispy spicy potato, spicier than it looks, but man i could house probably 2 by myself no issue. the diced chicken with chili/hot pepper is one of my favorite variations i've had; they add pineapple pieces and little rice crackers in for a change in texture. the cabbage dry pot and the okra with xo sauce is fantastic. the roasted chicken is very good. everyone loves the pumpkins pudding with salted egg; i think it's good but everyone loses their minds over it. definitely recommend this place.

-2 for the service they didn't care well for the order and forgot to bring the orderd food. Hospitality sucks not recommend you will get better hospitality in prison lol
Be the first to ReplyFood: mediocre at best and definitely not worth the price.
Way better and more authentic Sichuan food in nyc for 30%+ cheaper. Service: tea is $10 on the menu (already outrageous) and then we got charged $20 for 4 people cuz it came in a larger pot (without being told upfront), this is beyond outrageous lmfao. Idk how the owner sleep at night charging people this price. Ambiance: live performance is cool, I'll give it one additional star for this factor

To each his own, I suppose (there are some very positive reviews here). We, however, found the food to be mediocre at best. The chicken soup broth was tasty but the "chicken" was actually leg bones with barely any meat on them. The fish soup was way too "fishy" and the shrimp entree has three shrimp in it. The veal dish was OK. BUT THE GOOD NEWS - one of the most visually interest places around and the live music was quite nice.
Be the first to ReplyBeen looking forward to this restaurant.
But did not do homework right so I was not lucky with my menu selection. Seasoning was on the heavy side, either too salty or too sweet. The eggplant was too salty. Honey shrimp was too sweet (my fault since the menu said honey). The roasted chicken was bland.

Hutaoli is right by the Empire State and offers an elevated take on Szechuan cuisine. It gets pretty crowded at night so I'd recommend making a reservation online or call them. They were really accommodating to us changing our reservation and table size. The decor of the restaurant is really unique and it features live music and entertainment at night. The vibes skew towards a younger adult crowd I'd say.My group ordered a few dishes to share around the table. My favorites being Mapo Tofu ($19), Spicy Pork Belly with Crispy Garlic ($26) and the Fried Chopped Chicken ($22). The prices are on the higher side but considering it's midtown and you also get entertainment, I'd say the experience makes it worth it.TLDR: Come to Hutaoli if you're looking for a Szechuan restaurant to entertain a group.
Be the first to ReplyFrom all the reviews on Yelp, I did not have high
From all the reviews on Yelp, I did not have high expectations for Hutaoli. Contrary to my expectations and many reviews, my experience was very enjoyable. The first thing you will notice when walking in is all the decor. They have plenty of wine shelves, fake plants, real plants, and posters all over the restaraunt. Past 8pm you will also hear live music coming from the stage at the center of the restaurant. I highly suggest requesting for a table further away from the stage if you do not enjoy loud music or if you want to get more intimate. My party was seated right in front of the stage. The music was very loud but enjoyable. The decor combined with the music provided a very upbeat enviornment. I was very impressed with the food at Hutaoli. I suggest coming in a group of at least four people since their dishes seem to be served in a family style type of way. The dishes at first glance, are dishes you can find at other Chinese restaurants. However, Hutaoli adds their own unique twist to it and makes them taste delicious. I am not usually a fan of roast chicken, but the Hutaoli roast chicken was delicious. The skin was extremely crispy with very tender meat. The sauce that came with the chicken was sweet and really completed the dish. Another great dish was their spicy potato pot. Filled with sliced potatos and a variety of peppers, the dish really packed a kick and was very addictig. All the dishes that we ordered were unique and tasty. If you're ever in ktown and you want to try something new, definitely give Hutaoli a try. Overall a very positive experience with good vibes and good food.
Be the first to ReplyHutaoli is a consistent vibe -- great upscale Szechuan food
Hutaoli is a consistent vibe -- great upscale Szechuan food (they do not skimp on the peppercorn!), unreal decor, and live music at night. This is an ideal spot to bring tourist friends as a good time is guaranteed. If you're into dinnertime photoshoots, the restaurant is absolutely decked out w wall art, hanging plants, and just an absolute excess of interior decor. It's actually gorgeous.Food has always passed the test! Personal big fan of the eggplants, gluten and woodear mushrooms, fuqi feipian, and peanut cold chicken thing. They also have the silkiest mapo tofu dish you could even dream of. Drinks were a lil strong (except for my pina colada which barely tasted alcoholic.)
Be the first to ReplyTotal and utter sensory overload walking into this joint.
Lanterns and greenery hang from every inch of the ceiling, a full band plays the soundtrack for a duet singing ballady cover songs all night while patrons upload selfies of themselves that get projected onto a floor to ceiling screen behind the singers on stage. I'm not sure what to make of the entertainment, which consisted solely of this duo singing random old American cover songs by the likes of Phil Collins and Celine Dion. If you've ever taken part in karaoke in East Asia you'll know the vibe. Considering this place felt so much like a gimmick and tourist trap, I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed the food. Hutaoli fried noodles, scallion pancakes, seafood feast and some kind of lamb dish were all hits at my table. The prices were somewhat steep, but I considered the 'entertainment' built into the cost of the meal, which makes sense since they're going for a dinner + entertainment vibe. As others have noted, service was difficult to flag down but everyone was nice and helpful when we had questions.I'd love to see variations on the types of performances you can see here, like comedy, dance performances or original music. Otherwise it feels like a cheap facsimile of a dinner and show.
Be the first to ReplyAcceptable Chinese restaurant with overpriced food.
But we'll its in Ktown and you come here for the music and entertainment.
Be the first to ReplyI came here with my family because we wanted to try a new
I came here with my family because we wanted to try a new Chinese restaurant around this area, and this one immediately grabbed our attention! We were all mesmerized by the beautiful decor all throughout the interior. The space itself is huge - there is a beautiful bar area towards the front with some dining space - then past that, there is a whole section of dining space including a little stage where performers can provide entertainment for the customers dining. When we were dining, there were 2 different performers who were singers and they sang so beautifully! That ambience definitely sets the vibe of the restaurant. It was also not too loud that we were able to carry our conversations. It was a pretty busy night but we luckily we had reservations. Now on to the food! We ordered a bit of everything for the table to share. My family loves crab, so we had to get a crab dish - which was excellent with the sauce and had a kick of spice. I think it is perfect with a bowl of white rice. The presentation for all the dishes were also elegant. The chicken dish that we ordered came in a literally wooden cage (we saw someone else ordered it, and decided to order it ourselves because it looked really unique) The server unlocks the cage and used a tool to firmly press down on the chicken, and we could hear how crunchy the skin was. The soup was pretty tasty but I've also had better, it was perfect for the cold weather. We all love noodles but the shrimp noodles was the only one we had saw on the menu at that time - it was good but not great, it was also a little plain to me compared to other dishes we had. Overall, I think this restaurant was a great experience and there is endless potential with the concept of entertainment and dining - there's a lot they can do with that little stage to make the dining experience unique. The dishes are unique to their flavors and I hope they can continue to add more different dishes to the menu!

HuTaoLi is my go-to spot when I have friends or family in town. Perfect for a small or big group! The food is delicious and service is great! I've noticed that they changed the menu. But before the menu change my favorite thing was the salted duck egg coated ball with pumpkins filling! I love their live music performances and the ambience. The interior decoration is absolute fire. It's a beautifully decorated restaurant that feels very open with its high ceilings/modern decor while remaining true to its Chinese roots.

The servers loved playing the I see you but will not help or acknowledge you game here. So I ended up playing the I will get your attention as quick as possible when the loud music stops. Lydia was wonderful though. She was in charge of another section. We flagged her down to clear the table and get our check. We ordered six dishes where the outstanding dishes were the salted egg lobster and boneless pig trotters. There were chucks of salted egg and the lobsters were coated in them. The boneless pig trotters had numbing peppercorns but they weren't overly spicy nor overpowering. I do think their dishes are outpriced because I know I could get the same dishes cheaper elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyHutaoli is one of my favorite restaurants at home.
I haven't gone back in more than 2 years. Going into this restaurant reminded me of home and it was a bittersweet feeling. The decor is similar to the ones in China. The food, even though a bit different from the ones in China, was still very tasty and far exceeded expectations. I saw some comments about rude services. Don't know if it was because I came in a not so busy time, the service was excellent and the staff was very accommodating. I will definitely come back to this place when I come to New York the next time.

The restaurant's decor was absolutely beautiful and the ambience was great. My boyfriend loved the Pai Thai and I ordered the fried rice. The fusion style food was well done, but it was overloaded with oil. Live music was well done, but they only had live music in intervals. The music genre transitioned from Chinese to Shakira (interesting transition). My biggest complaint was the poor service. Majority of the waiters were INCREDIBLY timid and forgetful (I was ready to do their job for them). We ordered a beer 2x and it never arrived within 30 minutes. It became incredibly frustrating, because the waiters were nowhere to be found and they repeatedly forgot our orders. I'm not sure if it was every waiters first day on the job, but it was clear that management was lacking and/or disorganized. Overall, I would not come back again and I would also not recommend this place.
Be the first to ReplyThis sits closer to a 3.
5 for its unique atmosphere, live music, and KTV vibes. Also, I don't think you'll get Chinese food quite on par anywhere else in the immediate area, so there is some aspect of convenience; however, I've noticed a simplification of the menu and a slight downturn in quality in my 3 visits here over the past couple months. That being said, come here with a larger group so you can share family style as well as join in on the live music and interactive social media boards that I don't quite understand as a Korean.Food wise, you can get the chicken in a cage for visual effect and it is solid, but then again it is chicken. My favorite dish has to be the boneless trotter as well as seafood (ocean battle), but the prices are a tad high, so I'm hoping that ends up in the live entertainment pool as well as for the multitude of servers here.Unique KTV and food like experience, part of me felt like I was in Rush Hour at times. Food was decent, but a tad pricy. If I have a larger group to entertain, definitely a spot to check out for quite the experience and atmosphere to boot.
