Il Buco
An extremely authentic Italian dining experience. I felt I had teleported to a family run restaurant in the heart of Firenze or Bologna. Came here with mom as she was in town for the week. The only res was for outdoor and I was a bit skeptical, but it was a great overall experience. We both got a glass of Chianti and started with the Salumi platter and the Kale salad. Eating with mom is the best because she eats like a mouse, so I essentially get my entree and 93% of hers. I ordered the Bistecca and she got the Torchio. A perfect steak-pasta pairing like Kobe-Shaq, Bonnie and Clyde, Shrek and Donkey, Kobe-Pau, etc... Everything was fantastic and Il Buco has become a go-to Italian spot in the city for me. Slow service, fish dish that was tough and over cooked, artichoke appetizer that was burnt, crab and wild rice dish that was tasteles, and chairs that would be comfortable if you weighed 100 pounds or less ... need I say more?
Be the first to ReplyThe food was just OK, which unfortunately far exceeded the service
Overall, the food was good. Not great, but good. The ceviche was average, the calamari was very good, the risotto was good (yet quite lacking in seasoning), the ravioli was fine, as was the peach tart (though it tasted as if it might have been frozen at some point, which is not a great taste for what should be a fresh fruit dessert). Overall, the food was good, but not better than that. Unfortunately, our server was awful. When asked for recommendations, he said "it's a daily menu." (I guess meaning he had not tried the food? We were left to interpret, as that was his only response.) When we started to ask for wine recommendations, he just walked away before seeking any input and said "I'll go get the sommelier.") He was brusque and showed no indication of being interested in his job or our dining experience. Not once did he come by to see how we were doing or if everything tasted good. We won't return.

This is the real deal! High quality food, lovely knowledgable staff that do not treat you like a one timer when you are a regular like some places in NYC. It's nice to eat outside during pleasant weather and inside is equally lovely with a beautiful vibe. This is my go to place as it is consistently excellent!

Evening dinner at the terrace. Excellent food, amazing ambience and great service. Want to come again with the family.

The number of possibilities for food in New York City is endless. You could live there your entire life and not try all the great restaurants available. For a visitor, it can be overwhelming. Let me help a little. Put Il Buco on your โmust go toโ list. Absolutely amazing. Great restaurants start with great staff, and Mark was a fountain of knowledge, with great recommendations when someone was contemplating different options. Knows the menu and wine list inside out, and ready to help make your experience that much better. 5 guys on a trip, all with different wants, and everyone one of us thrilled with the end result. The Olive Oil tasting as a starter was a unique experience, and the cold fruit-based soup was exceptional. The ceviche was light and delicate and simply amazing. The pastas sampled were all fantastic. Highly recommend adding this stop to your next trip to NYC!

When you walk in, you feel like you are in an Italian farmhouse. Itโs like being in a movie set. The staff is professional and prompt. The food is wonderful. We started with an olive oil and bread tasting. Their bread is amazing. They bake it four times a day. You can tell. Itโs wonderful. We also had the prawns as an appetizer (huge delicious prawns served in the shell). My wife had the risotto and I had the grilled lamb with broccoli. We both loved our meals. When you combine this food with this service and this ambiance you have a winner. By the way, itโs been open 28 years in NYC, probably the most competitive Italian food scene in the country. If they can make it there, they can make it anywhere! BOOM!! We will be back when we visit again. Special thanks to manager Isabella. She was gracious enough to share some restaurant recommendations. She clearly knew what we liked. Thanks, Isabella. Love this place. The only reason I gave it five stars is because I couldnโt give it six.
Be the first to ReplyGood Italian place
Great food and service. Il Buco's burrata is clutch. Their bread and olive oil is also strangely addicting. Their pastas are decent as well.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing pizza
Il buco is very nice and a funky interior. Shared tables but nice distance between seats. Great wine selection. Pizza excellent
Be the first to ReplyCame for the Classics!
First time our kids have been here. Kale caesar is as good as we remember it being and we all enjoyed the olive oil tasting. Solid pastas and we got a terrific bottle of Rosso di Montalcino which admittedly made the pasta taste even better and bumped up the meal to 5 stars! The lemon infused risotto was very good. The skirt steak was cut too thick and oddly cut.

Very good food with traditionel Italien flavours. Lamb rack was very good. Bread and oils really nice. The atmosphere and service was also good
Be the first to ReplyThe food was excellent and the service too. It was very drafty.
Very good food with a diverse menu. The service was quite attentive. Unfortunately it was so drafty that we had to eat with our coats on.
Be the first to ReplyTruffle tagliatelle was overrated
Burrata was fire. Cherries and pine nuts were a thoroughly flavorful yet delicate compliment to the creamy spherical cheese. Would definitely order again, might be my favorite burrata ever. The truffle tagliatelle was disappointing -- essentially buttered noodles that costs $40 dollars. I would've preferred Kraft Mac n Cheese for more satisfying flavor. I couldn't taste the truffle at all. You're better off ordering a pasta with meat. Ambience outside was nice, but the wooden desk as a table felt awkward and my legs didn't fit underneath it.
Be the first to ReplyDinner in a rainstorm!
We ate outside in their covered seating area during a rainstorm and the staff served us well despite the storm. The outside eating area was actually a little uncomfortable, but you were able to observe the Soho Street scene and an early summer evening outside. Good if youโre worried about Covid. Lamb chops and duck sausage pasta were very good.
Be the first to Replydon't go here if u are a vegeterian
Very nice rustic ambience. little bit too loud. great service. But not enough of a selection if you are a vegeterian. the only thing they had was a fresh salad which was pretty good and a risotto. no other vegeterian dishes.
Be the first to ReplyCrushed it. Out if the Park!!!
In a town known for unloaded with find Italian restaurants, Y Buco hasta be near the very top. Small, intimate, a family like, old New York vibe cells you in for a lovely evening. Never rushed, every item on this menu is unusual and prepared with the upmost attention, with remarkable ingredients. Share a salad, share a pasta, share a couple appetizers, and then an entrรฉe. They wonโt hurry you along. Itโs a Family operation where they try just as hard today, as they did when they opened 25 years ago. A bit out of the way, but never fear. Top marks in our department.
Be the first to ReplyFarm to table in the City
One of the top-rated Italian restaurants in NYC, it is one of the original farm-to-table restaurants in the city. The place is small, rustic with a warm, laid-back atmosphere. It does not serve your usual run-of the-mill Italian classics but more complex offerings marked by high-quality ingredients and with some Spanish influences. Wine list is superb. Only niggle is that service can be slow particularly on a busy day. Now celebrating 28 years in this original location, it continues to enjoy a loyal following.
Be the first to ReplyOvercooked meat in a flashy sophisticated downtown place.
We have long been fans of il Buco. Excellent, simple, well made food.
But two times in a row, $130 worth of Florentine steak ordered rare has come out somewhere between medium and well done.
It is intolerable.
Go someplace better.

I have been coming to Il Buco since 1995 or 96. Apart from one bad experience in 2009 (and they were extremely apologetic and send me a coupon) it has been incredible, consistently so. I see a lot of negative reviews about price and noise. Hey this is NYC - it will be loud it will be pricy. However, here the food is excellent. Staff is wonderfully attentive. The last time I was there there were two separate tables with Hollywood stars - they did not pay us any less attention than those tables. What else can you ask for ?
Be the first to ReplyTIMELESS
How many can say to have been to the same restaurant in new york for 2 decades and have never had a bad experience? How many restaurants can claim such longevity and commitment to quality? It is hard to find a comparison Il Buco in Bond Street is one of a kind; open for over 25 years has been feeding guests of all social status: foodies and shy beginners, Hollywood stars, and complete anonymous tourists, loved by celebrity chefs and winemakers from all over the world, everyone leaves with the feeling to have had a special moment in a place that is making you fell in another dimension. it takes you to another place doing so with the unique ambiance and the power of great authentic food, extraordinary wines, and amiable service. Long Live IL BUCO NYC
Be the first to ReplyPrime service and setting for superb tapas
After COVID, the dining room had opened and there was a fun buzz in the indoor room and outdoor seating area on the cobblestone street. It was a beautiful setting for a weekend dining experience. The team approach to service should be emulated by more restaurants.
There are so many small plate options, and for us, these were the hits. The paella for two was good, but there was some spicing that was excessive, and I agree that more of something could be added to the lobster alone. Drinks were excellent with unique wine choices, and the strawberry dessert tart was a good top off for the meal.
There is a four top table in the front overlooking the street that should be your choice. On this weekend evening, shamefully, it was never seated while we were there in prime time hours. It was as if management was saving the table should some glitterati happen to call. Come on, allow use of this prime dining locale.
Favorite Italian restaurant in the city
I enjoyed the risotto with shrimp, which was the first course of the day that suited my macrobiotic diet. My wife loved the steak. We were also given an appetizer of asparagus with bottarga, which was great. It was complimentary, perhaps because our reservation was for the dining room but we were seated outside, a little late. We were happy being outside anyway; it was quieter, it felt safer, cars didn't pass by very often, and the weather was perfect.
Be the first to ReplyA TOTAL dining experience !
Our expectations for this dining outing were high...AND, they were met! It was the perfect evening for outdoor dining on the charming city street that has basically been closed off to traffic...YaaaaY...BUT, we'd reserved inside so other luckier ones enjoyed the evening light and atmosphere. The inside is dark but interesting for watching people to & fro without bother. We were offered and accepted a starter course through Resy...it was a sharable version of the kale salad on the menu and it was delicious...THX! A glass of fino sherry and a house martini with anchovy stuffed olives broke the ice and then the WINNER course of the night was shared also...pork sausage with perfectly cooked garlicky white beans and aioli to die for...we also ordered the bread which was excellent! The sommelier agreed with our choice of a dry basque rose to accompany the lobster paella (1/2 portion for 2) we'd ordered. Our entree was deeply brothed, perfectly crispy on the bottom and not overcooked. The dish was straining for an additional item or two as is traditional for paella in our experience...a scollop or mussel (or two) would have been nicer but who's complaining? Our dessert was a baked strawberry tart that was tasty, crisp & creamy! The timing of our food delivery was impeccable and the team service aspect really helps here...everyone from chef to busser is interested and proactive about what's going on at the table from an appropriate distance. Questions were answered and recommendations made in a very professional yet affable manner...Kudo's to all !
Be the first to ReplyYou should check your bill - they will steal from you.
Added $99 bottle of wine we did not order to the bill. Placed an extra hold on my Credit card and did not reverse the charge. Do not trust them they will steal from you. They are charlatans, dishonest, rude, untrustworthy and usury. They do not deserve too be in business.
