From the first moment at the table when you are swarmed
From the first moment at the table when you are swarmed with attention and food to the end of the meal, this is a top end dining experience. The tables are small and close together creating a lively atmosphere. The service is good, albeit filled with upsells. The pasta was the highlight with perfect al dente bucatelli and spot on rigatoni. Sauce was excellent. Wines were over priced, but quality. So much food that we didn't need dessert. This time we got a concert from Maximo and the whole restaurant sang in Italian with him which was....odd... but enjoyable
Be the first to ReplyWe were terribly disappointed in restaurant.
There's an odor which seems like exterminator or sewage problem.

All pasta made on premises daily so you know it will be fresh. Dining at a location where Obama and Clinton met deserves high expectations. Seafood linguini and veal parm was flavorful and quick to serve. Enjoy the tiramisu

I was excited to eat here but unfortunately it was very underwhelming. The food was bland and really nothing to write home about. I am on the hunt for my go to Italian restaurant in NYC and sadly this one is not it.Also, the restaurant workers sit and eat in the same dining room where patrons are served. This does not create the right dining experience, in my opinion.
Be the first to ReplyThis company is the worst of the worst.
They donated a voucher for dinner to the make a wish foundation. I bought this voucher. With covid the Il Mulino in my city never reopened so I called the NY office and spoke with Wayne the regional manager and he said no problem whenever you come to NY we will honor it. A year later I spoke with Mariana and then with Andrea and I clearly explain the voucher situation and he says no problem and books my reservation. We get there at 8:30 for dinner and at 9:30 they say they can't honor the gift certificate. They keep us waiting till 10:30 with no service. What kind of organization would take back a charitable donation and not serve you? Andrea was so rude and it was embarrassing for my son to see how terrible some people and companies can actually be. They ruined our last night in the city.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing on so many levels.
Noise level was ridiculous. Service while attentive seemed to want to rush us. Best part of the meal was the complimentary bruschetta. I ordered the pappardelle with sausage. Very strange dish. It was pasta in a very gloppy, tasteless red sauce with what appeared to be small sausage meatballs. "Homemade" tiramisu was nothing special. Limoncello, also apparently made in house, however, was one other bright spot. I was invited by friends who were in town who chose the restaurant and picked up the check. I truly feel bad for them. There are so many good dining options in the city. By all means, avoid this pricey and substandard one.
Be the first to ReplyCannot say enough good things.
I had to go off menu with their specials and so did my fiancé, but suffice it to say, everything they make is PERFECT. I could have used a few minutes alone to cool down after those figs and Gorgonzola. It was a special romantic bday dinner, and every single part of the evening was perfect. They are generous and thoughtful in their service, and they go out of their way to make your experience meaningful. Eat here. I'm serious.

I just had the most disappointing Restaurant Week lunch at Il Mulino Uptown. I have eaten at the Downtown location many times and it was wonderful. The meal today was so medicore that I was shocked. Ordering off of the Restaurant Week menu I ordered the ravioli which was frozen in the middle and when I sent it back they only gave me 2 because I ate half of the one that was cold. My friend and I both had the Veal Marsala it was OK but not the quality I would have expected from a restaurant of that caliber. The room is stuffy and pretentious but most importantly the food was not what I was expecting.
Be the first to ReplyMy first time at this location.
It Lived up to the Il Mulino tradition. Great place to spend an anniversary with my wife.

Had dinner here last night before a show, and all of us walked out with a terrible taste in our mouths - literally and figuratively. Can't say that it's not worth the price (which is ridiculous), because it's not worth going to at any price. The only pleasant person there was the hostess. Here are the highlights: When one of us (we were 4) asked the surly waiter to repeat the specials, the the waiter responded with "well what is it that you want to know," then he told us that he was going to bring us our "freebies" (not something you would have possibly heard in the real Il Mulino). When one of us asked for a little more of the bruschetta (a "freebie"), the answer was you'll have to pay for that. The wines (again overpriced at $30+ a non-generous pour) are a C+ at best. I ordered a Sancerre which I've never gone wrong with, and what came out was bland and watery. My husband was kind enough to take it off my hands. Having learned my lesson, I asked to taste a rose which also had practically no taste. Then I asked to try 2 other whites. Both were extremely disappointing and tasted like they came out of the same watered down bottle. I had everyone at the table taste them to make sure it wasn't just me, and we were all in agreement. After that the manager came over, sat close to me and rudely said "so you've tried all our whites, what is it that you want?!" I ended up ordering a red that a friend was having, which was passable. When I later (away from everyone) told the manager that he embarrassed me by making it seem like I wanted "free" wine, he became angry and almost aggressive. Finally the food - we were all disappointed, but mine was inedible (don't know if that was the manager's revenge). The clams were made of rubber and the porcini ravioli tasted like they've been in the freezer for at least a year.I hope the original Il Mulino downtown is still what it was!
Be the first to ReplyFood is ridiculously overpriced and subpar.
Ingredients weren't fresh, drenched in oil and overall gross. I had a stomach ache for hours after eating the food. Do not recommend.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is spectacular.
I have been here many times over the years and I've only had phenomenal experiences.
Be the first to ReplyThe restaurant and service was on point.
The food was excellent. Don't be fooled by the ratings on yelp. It deserves more stars. You definitely should try it. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of my food but Job Well Done

I have been a fan of this place since i visited the downtown one decades ago. The Uptown place misses. There is an odd smell in the restaurant that others have noted. The meal felt rushed and the decibel level for a three quarters full room had 3 of us yelling across the table to be heard. Do not get the chicken palliard. It is not prepared in the traditional French method and was very bland. Do get the veal parm. I am impressed with any dish that can have that level of shape transformation. The lobster and squid ink pasta was excellent. It the prices were not obnoxiously high, i would probably have leaned into a 4 star rating.

The food was absolutely delicious and the service was perfect. They start you with a plate of appetizers like bruschetta, focaccia, Parmesan Reggiano, etc. We had the Restaurant Week menu which was an excellent value. They asked if we were here for that and provided a menu with more choices than many other restaurants have for the promotion. Our waiter, Ricardo, was right on top of everything and made us feel very welcome. There was a very sweet woman from the bar who checked on us several times and gave us homemade limoncello. I didn't get her name but she was so nice. All the staff were and they helped me with some mobility issues. As for the food, the portions were plentiful (we had leftovers) and everything had a very clean, homemade taste. We both had veal (2 different dishes) and we both found it could be cut with the fork. It was that excellent quality, whiter veal that is flavorful and tender. Appetizers were burrata with watermelon and shrimp. Both were great. You choose how much olive oil and pepper is used. I really enjoyed the flavor of the perfectly ripe watermelon with the burrata which surprised me. I'm not overly adventurous with food. We ended with tiramisu and lemon sorbet. Great way to end a tasty meal. For both experience and food we would happily return, even without a promotion!

When I think of this place, the huge Parmesan wheel comes to mind. I like the experience they provide, old school Italians with a kick. They serve carved to the plate Parmesan cheese along with antipasti and fresh bread. Yummy, taste great. Calamari and marinara sauce were fantastic. My entree however not so much. The shrimp scampi had a weird taste to it. I would have to guess that the shrimp were farm raised. The corn meals they feed sea creatures at farms gives them a different flavor as opposed to wild caught. The garlic was strong but whatever the shrimp was made of was stronger. I would make the suggestion for wild caught and to source shrimp from South America, worlds' greatest. I tasted flourless chocolate cake, Tiramisu and ricotta cheesecake. They were all super good, delicious! My drink was nice and fused to perfection. Topped the night off with rare champagne, not prosseco, for those jokesters lol

I rarely do these type of reviews because I am in the industry but I feel like I have to let people know what they are possibly getting into. Last night I dined at Il Mulino to celebrate my birthday with my best friend. She is disabled in a wheelchair which I stated in the reservation. Upon arriving we were met with the manager who was rude from the start. He said the only place for us was the table in front of the door and window because her wheelchair was too large to sit at a table in the back. We knew that this was BS bc 1) we can see and 2) it would have been a state violation. He just did not want to make room for us. Faced with this type of discrimination before, to prove a point my friend asked to use the restroom which is located in the back of the restaurant. Shocker- we had no issues getting to the back. We noticed open two tops we were able to be seated there away from the cold and draft. Once seated, our waiter and other staff was nice and courteous. There were times during our dinner when we and other tables near us heard that same manager yelling at wait staff and being nasty to them. As for food- the only thing that we enjoyed was the Papardelle Bolognese. The other dishes we ordered (Lamb Osso Bucco, Pollo Crosta, Broccoli Rabe, Mushrooms) was lacking in flavor and/or really oily. For instance we got a side of Wild Mushrooms which turned out to be sliced white button & cremini mushrooms, re-hydrated shitake with onion and bell pepper doused in olive oil. Nothing wild about that and with a $17 price point you feel cheated. With all the hype and history attached to this place, they over sold and under delivered.

We have been to other locations of this restaurant and wanted to share a nice holiday dinner with another couple. We raved about it to them as they had never dined in one. We had a reservation for 4 people at 6pm. We got seated about 6:10. Picked out a wine. We were told it was not available and to pick another bottle so we did. That one also not available. Finally got a bottle for$150.00 which was more than we wanted to spend. It was ok until it ran out and they wanted us to get another bottle. We didn't want to order another and we didn't get dinner served until 8pm so we waited for almost 2 hours and with no more wine to drink with dinner. There was plenty of wait staff but none came to say that the kitchen was backed up (which I assume only because there were plenty of waiters). Staff kept walking by us but no service or apologies. We felt very ignored which for the prices is completely unacceptable. The food was very good once it came but the evening was very disappointing.
