Food was delicious.
Service was amazing. Roberto was my server and he was awesome. I don't speak much Italian and it was so helpful to have someone speak such good English. The tiramisu melts in your mouth. The pasta is everything you want in Italy. If you are visiting Milan and want authentic, tasty, upscale food, this place is a must.

. and it did not disappoint! We came here for dinner, family of 5 and showed up with no reservations.. apparently it's not as busy at night it's more of a popular spot for lunch being in the midst of the shopping area. The courtyard is so historic and classy.. service was super friendly and helped us customize plates for the kids.. we enjoyed every bit of our dinner here.. we ordered simple last dish and were delicious and the dessert was amazing too

Oddly substandard food made us wonder if we'd gotten the American Menu. My bottarga pasta was quite nice, but the veal which I thought would be the star of the show was strangely bland. The rest of our party was similarly unimpressed. The ambiance is beautiful and the drinks were nice. Like the previous reviewer said, maybe this place is best for cocktails. We were dressed well and spoke in low tones, but maybe something gave us away as those uncouth Yankees. Or maybe I'm just being paranoid.

This was my favorite restaurant during my one week visit in Milan. I would recommend it over both Niko Romito and Paper Moon which were both impressive. One thing that made this place so amazing was the historical house museum setting in the courtyard of Palazzo Bagatti Valsecch. The food is a bit pricey but portions are fair and the cuisine is fantastic, Wine and champagne options were also great. The service was spectacular as our waiter, Alan, was super attentive and had a great attitude that enhanced our dining experience. The tiramisu may be the best I ever had. Will definitely return when in Milan. Get reservations early as they were not easy to obtain.

Simple and high quality dishes and flavors. Great location too, in the heart of the city.

A great place for excellent food and people watching! Must reserve for a table outside unless you want to wait a while.
Be the first to ReplyA friend of ours recommended Il Salumaio as a great dinner
A friend of ours recommended Il Salumaio as a great dinner spot for our night in Milano. We did sundowners on a rooftop by the Duomo at Obicà and then had a pleasant walk over to the restaurant. While we had wanted to sit outside on the lovely patio, we opted for a/c and sat inside. Our waiter Luca was outstanding. He answered our questions and led us to some amazing dinner choices. We've never had risotto Milanese so split that for our primi piatti. It was divine. It's golden hue was beautiful and the risotto was perfectly al dente yet somehow still creamy. I ate every single perfect bite. We had Langhe bianco with the fish, which paired perfectly. From there, we had amazing main courses. Per Luca's enthusiastic recommendation, I had the crab tagliolini instead of the frutti di mare. I only had one piece of lump crab in the dish; the rest was strung throughout the process, adding flavor. This was very light, with yummy cherry tomatoes adding to the dish. The Mediterranean swordfish was a dish I will remember for the rest of my life. Definitely the best swordfish I've ever had. The filet was fork tender but still firm, with perfect swordfish flavor. But the sauce, that sauce!!!!!! Tomatoes, capers, olives, and parsley, combined in a chunky, delicious tomato based sauce. Loads of flavor yet still balanced. Bravo! The langhe biwnco also went well with these two dishes. Il Salumaio has excellent service. Luca did an outstanding job but I loved seeing dishes, such as the salt cod, prepared tableside with great care. Despite being in the very ritzy part of Milan, most of the other diners had shorts and T-shirt's on. Granted, they were probably designer duds but it's worth noting here. I wore a dress and sandals and hubby wore a jacket and no tie and there were others dressed like us. I will definitely dine here again if I ever find myself in Milano! Delicious!

Got profiled by this place the second my wife and I walked through the door in jeans and sneakers. The server who greeted us spent a minute at the hostess stand then directed us to the back of the seating area outside, by several smokers. He told us the 10+ empty tables we walked past, which were not by smokers near the front of the restaurant, were taken and we couldn't sit there. When we asked to sit at a table that wasn't by smokers he said no, this is your table. We said no thanks and went elsewhere. The food smelled incredible and we were excited to eat there but couldn't believe how we were treated.

Cool venue. Came here with a friend from Milan. He said it wasn't as good as it usually is, but it did taste delicious. Had the meat and cheese sample platter to start and the seafood pasta. Could have eaten another entree, but opted for the dessert - chocolate cake with raspberries. All around great experience. Do not be afraid to go and has English on their menu.Did 4 stars instead of five only because my friend remembered it being better. However, I didn't dislike anything.

Sitting outside by the lemon trees was lovely and the food was incredible. Highly recommend the burrata and the risotto, but based on the rest of our order you really can't go wrong!

Elegant setting, great service and classic Italian cuisine in the heart of Milan! We came here for an evening of authentic Italian food and was not disappointed. Octopus, caprese salad was all great but the best of the bunch was the sea urchin pasta (pictured).Creamy and fresh sea urchin mixed in with perfectly al dente pasta. Highly recommend this place for a special evening out.

Amazing fine dining experience in Milan. Food was absolutely delicious and overall experience was great. Host and staff were great. My server was amazing and made lot's of recommendations. Both indoor and outdoor dining settings are great. Nice intimate setting in the historic center of Milan just off the luxury shopping avenue of Via Montenapoleone. Food was delicious. Both Ravioli and Angel hair pasta were my favorites. Their desserts are also mouth watering. Definitely a nice trendy intimate spot ideal for a date night in Milan. Will definitely be back. Grazie!

5/10At the end of a rather ambitious itinerary for the Italy trip, my girlfriend and I ended up back in Milan where we started. We had one night before boarding a flight back to New York the next morning, but weren't really in the best shape to use that extra day productively. Not only were we exhausted by then, but we already did see most of the attractions in Milan, and we spent our last day in Italy just strolling around the Duomo and checking out the famed Montenapoleone shopping district (although there wasn't much to distinguish this expensive piece of land from the Fifth Avenue or SoHo in Manhattan). We were just about to call it a night after a quick dinner nearby the area, and found this pretty restaurant located inside a beautiful palazzo and courtyard inside. Unfortunately, the food was a bit underwhelming when compared to the charm of the dining space. The rather extensive menu at Il Salumaio seems to be focusing on the classic, mostly Milanese dishes. As you can see in my previous reviews of restaurants in Italy, I'm always a fan of straightforward, soulful Italian cooking that remains faithful to the rich culinary tradition of this wonderful country, if and only if such cooking focuses on consistency of execution. The level of execution in general at Il Salumaio had something to be desired. I've had fantastic caprese salads throughout restaurants in Italy during this trip, but the one here was the weakest, as I found the ingredients not in the freshest shape like I was getting used to. By the end of Italy trip, we haven't yet tried a ravioli dish, so went ahead and ordered the one with meat ragu. It was by no means a bad dish, but I felt that the ravioli wasn't as special as the other insanely good pasta dishes I've tried elsewhere. There was something missing that I couldn't quite pinpoint. Spaghetti that came with garlic, oil, chili pepper and sea urchin was the more successful of the two, and I enjoyed the spicy kick from the pepper; I just wished the dish came out with slightly less oil and the presence of sea urchin wasn't as prominent as I had hoped. We did really like the tiramisu that came at the end; it wasn't as magical as the one I had in Florence, but the overall delightful sweetness was there. We sat inside the dining room which has the décor that makes you feel like you're dining inside a museum. For a date night, visiting this dining space would be one fine idea. There is also a large wine selection from different Italian regions, so get some recommendations depending on your preference of flavor. Our last meal in Italy turned out to be less than ideal, as I felt Il Salumaio didn't have the soulfulness and consistency in execution I was looking for; perhaps it may be a viable option for a quick lunch if you're shopping around Montenapoleone. Anyways, I think my girlfriend and I can skip Italian food for the next month or so despite the proliferation of Italian restaurants in New York. It has been one amazing journey where I felt like I got a good grasp of the soul and tradition of Italian cooking.
