One of my favorite experiences and first time trying a Michelin star restaurant years ago. I am so sad they shut down during the pandemic. My recent visit to SFMOMA wasn't the same knowing In Situ was no longer there. I wish they could open again one day because it was such a special experience tasting Michelin dishes from across the world all in one spot.

This is a well thought out, well executed concept situated in the very appropriate SF Moma to showcase all the award winning renowned chefs' modern works of culinary art across the world. Really enjoyed the experience here. Went twice and both times we very much enjoyed the service and all the dishes. One of the highlights was the forest meal which When we went to France, we went to the original restaurant to compare the replica to original dish. It was great way to discover great chefs across the world.

The concept of this restaurant is really cool! However, everything just missed the mark slightly. Things were not so balanced, did not have enough flavour, or were just not what was expected. The cheese cake was very interesting, basically a soft ripened cheese so if you do not like that this will be gross. Overall, not really worth the price

Pre covid : in-Situ is popular among all walks of life: locals connoisseurs, museum members and visitors from Asia. It has an unique beautiful interior, a rotating world exhibition menu. The best part it has food inspired by the exhibitions upstairs!! Example Andy Warhol inspired canned soup. Mind bending. You can also get a taste of chefs from other corners of the world and the United States: for example David Chang's fish fragrant rice cake (mochi) bites. Definitely try the cheese cake. It's amazing. The exterior is made of praline. The entire thing is edible
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely one of the more unique meals I've had in a while.
Try to make reservations and plan to visit the museum on the same day - makes for a great itinerary :)Came here twice within two months and have tried just about everything on their menu except for the salad.Lots of mixed reviews likely because this place is pricey with small portions. Here are my favorites/MUST-orders:- carrot soup- cuttlefish and squid ink- tapioca and cheese fritters- wasabi lobster - Farro Piccolo Risotto- cheesecake: oh my goodness, best in my lifeDon't order the jokbal ssam (very simple, common korean food and flavors).

In Situ is known for its carefully procured dishes from Michelin star places all around the world. We came here back in January for SF Restaurant Week for their dinner prix fixe menu for $65.65. They have an open kitchen area, so you can watch them put together each dish.Notable dishes included the caramelized carrot soup and the sea bream stuffed with shrimp. The honey custard tart and the burnt sage brownie were also unlike anything I have had before. The satsuma cream on top of the honey custard tart and the freshly burnt sage of the burnt sage brownie gave each desert a unique, interesting flavor profile. They also have some unique cocktail drinks, including the White Out - a mix of jasmine whiskey, oolong tea, milk, grapefruit, and vodka.Service was excellent. The staff explained each dish prior to serving, kept our waters refilled, and changed out dishware accordingly. The dishes by themselves were pricey ($20-30 per entree), but I love the concept of bringing together notable Michelin star dishes and putting it all out on display for diners to enjoy. Definitely worth checking out!

1.Food is decent but might not justify the price.2. There's a 20% mandatory service fee added and expect you to pay extra tips if you're not pay attention. The service is okay but not that 20%+ kind of good.3. The food amount is very "Michelin style". Be ready if you're still hungry when leaving. 4. I'm impressed by the hand towel paper in the bathroom. Very nice.

Got a chance to try this new michelin star restaurant , the restaurant looks really nice and modern as it inside the museum. The host (white lady)was really nice and professional but the other one (Asian girl) not really .. look into the menu and you will find it has 3 parts from small medium and large. And also dessert. I would recommend all the small and medium but wasn't impress from the large menu at all.We ordered - carrot soup- oyster chawanmushi- shrimp cake- potato- rice cake with sausage - fish stuffed with shrimp - cheese cake- marshmallow The hilight of the meNu today was the potato dish and the cheese cake were the only 2 stand outService was good some of the staffs was notExpect more from the Michelin star restaurant That's why take out 1 star, I would be back to try the new menu.

I don't understand the sub-4 star rating for this place!Came here with a friend for restaurant week and loved it!We had the prix-fixe menu and got one of everything to share.Everything was honestly wonderful. The service is also great, waters were filled very proactively, we were explained every dish when they were presented to us. They have a coat and bag check.Interior has a modern-upscale feel to it and feels fancy. Great for a nice date or business meeting. It was also pretty quiet.Caramelized Carrot soup - For someone who hates carrots, I didn't think i'd like this, but it was delicious!Dadinhos de Tapioca - Crispy and lightly flavored outside, not mushy or overcooked on the inside at all.Country bread and brown butter - solid, good bread. But i'm generally not a big fan of butter so I got nothing else for ya.Buttermilk Fried Chicken - great! not overly breaded, crispy and perfectly seasoned. also super tender. They aren't super heavy, but there is an ample amount.Yellow Chive and basil pancake - good. If you grew up with chive pancakes, you'll likely not notice much difference than the ones you ate at home but they aren't as greasy here which is a huge plus.Rice bowl and pickles - came with an excessive amount of rice, I could have passed on the bowl, but the pickles were great. They varied from sweet to acidic and was a cool little flight to explore your favs.Sea Bream - even with he skin on, they were great! Light and crispy, not fishy at all.Honey Custard Tart - Not into citrus curds, so I didn't love this but my friend loved it, and ate it quickly.Sage Smoked Brownie - Super rich, but very good. It comes still smoking!Would definitely return here for an upscale, healthy meal!

Situated next to SF MOMA, In Situ rotates through "exhibits" of dishes from celebrity chefs around the world -- David Chang, Mei Lin, Dominique Ansel. Super cool concept -- if food is art, then going to a restaurant can be like going to a museum and give you a new perspective. In situ achieves this well.Oliver J. and I made reservations 3 weeks ahead for Valentine's Day '20. We were seated early after ordering the beautifully colored Soft Power cocktail ($14). The dishes came out in bunched waves: all the small plates came out together, medium together, etc. with silver and dishware changes in between.X Chawamushi: a single small oyster positioned in a sea of fresh, savory custard. The first bite immediately transported Oliver and I back to our trip to Japan. Clean, distinct glutamate forward flavors that paired perfectly with the perched oyster.X Yellow Chive and Basil Pancake ($12): a straightforward take on a scallion pancake: crisp, light, and well seasoned. Having just been to Mr. Jius in chinatown, chowing down on Brandon Jius deliciously deconstructed, puffball of a scallion pancake, Oliver and I were a little disappointed by the lack of originality on this dish. X Bread & brown butter ($2): a must! This brown butter will blow you away-- crisp encounters of dehydrated butter sprinkled throughout that give the perfect textured contrast to the airy sourdough slices. X "Potato & Roe" ($18): liked the presentation more than the flavors here. Beurre blanc really brought the dish together. I wished the potato was a centimeter smaller, the ratio felt slightly off with the starch dominating.X Shrimp toast ($18): our favorite dish of the evening! The shrimp were minced fine into the consistency of a fish cake, topped on a firm bread then presumably deep fried and placed atop a pond of delicious curry. We were licking the bowl clean of the curry!! The pastel pink bowl was a familiar Nightshade color that looked beautiful with the mustard yellow curry. X Spicy Pork Sausage & Rice Cakes ($24): sadly disappointed by this dish, that we were looking the most forward to! All the rave reviews really hyped us up! But Oliver and I were searching for a flavor or texture that never delivered. The dish would have tasted much better if it had a sauce or stew. With the massive amounts of fried scallions, and rice cakes that tasted deep fried, my mouth was left bone-dry after each bite. I liked the creativity of frying the rice cakes to make a crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside texture. But I wished it had a ddeukbokki gochujang sauce (at least on the side) to balance it out.X Jasper Hill Farm Cheesecake ($22): the star of the night. Encouraged to eat it like cheese and crackers, this hazelnut encrusted cheese-forward-cheesecake was an absolute delight to spread on the sweet sugar cookies. Incredibly inventive, fun and delicious. They include a 20% service fee as tip for the waitstaff. Our bill came to $160 for 2 or $80 per person in total. I thought this was well-priced for a 6 course meal+drinks. Will definitely be back!
