Delectable
Had lunch here with some friends while we were in town and everything we had was delectable! My chirashi-down was superb! It was loaded with tons of quality and high-end ingredients. Truly *chef's kiss*! We also had the tempura which usually isn't my thing but this was divine! I'm not into heavy battered fried products but their tempura was so light and airy, with the right amount of seasoning. I'm taking away 1 star due to the service. We had to wait a long time for our food, and even longer for one person's dish, which arrived almost half an hour after everyone else's :(
Be the first to ReplyMagically delicious and actually a good value for the price.
I absolutely loved the food and wine. I will go back at first opportunity. My husband got ramen. I got wild Alaskan black cod with exotic mushrooms and roe. We shared the autumn salad with Asian pears and persimmon. Everything was gorgeous and delicious. The wine was perfect temp and in perfect glasses. Altogether a lovely lunch. Do make reservations.

Excellent Japanese food, service, and space. The food was delicious. Everything was great though the vegetable tempura was my personal fave โ light and tasty.
Be the first to ReplyHorrible restaurant and even worse service/management
We went there with the kids for my son's birthday for dinner. Ordered two soups , sushi and an appetizer. The food was not tasty, soups were overly salty and sushi was dry. But that was not the worse of it. We ALL (even my 6 year old daughter and 14 year old son) came back home with horrible stomach upset. It took us more than a day to recover from this experience. Needless to say, the birthday evening was ruined. I called the restaurant to let them know of this incident hoping they would take it seriously. Instead, the manager only wanted to mention how many people were there last night and how they had a city inspection that went well??? Not sure what does that have to do with anything and why the manager was disregarding our complaint. Basically, all the manager was like a tape recorded on repeat and never even responded to anything I had to say. This is probably the worse experience I ever had in a restaurant not only because of food but also because of the service. Sad to see an establishment caring so little about their customers after they messed up an entire family for a day and ruined their evening.

The fried chicken and fried tofu were insanely delicious. We all got the tasty ramen -- bit too many sprouts for my taste though.
Be the first to Replyi gave up being a regular at this restaurant. The staff told me i had more reservations than anyone
i ate here 2-3 times a week. I asked to return an inexpensive dish for the first time in months. They refused. There is an end to the arrogant abuse diners can be put to while supporting robustly expensive restaurants. Apparently, the restaurant is asking Trip Advisor to take down my review, as it disappeared. This is a "take it or leave it space", regardless of diner loyalty or support. i would go to kinder restaurants, like Ippuku, Soba Mochi, Fish and Bird.
Be the first to ReplyGood Service, Some innovative dishes and a lovely patio.
A fun take on Japanese food. Loved the miso with beautiful tofu & tiny Nameko mushrooms. The Agadashi Tofu & NASA is nothing like the traditional but is like traditional Japanese dishes in its beautiful mix of vegetables & presentation in a light sauce. Iyasare is nice because you can go more Japanese it stick to the Tempura safety zone making it possible to dine with friends & family. I have only sat in their patio at lunchtime every visit - but find it really private and enjoyable. Great service. I will be back!
Be the first to ReplyKiller Kakiage Tempura with Shrimp
p4.5 Iyasare
Berkeley
Japanese
Expensive
Need reservations; very popular; indoor and outdoor seating
Free parking in the back lot
Shiro was a great food server
Ordered several delicious appetizers; one with burdock root
The kakiage tempura with shrimp was awesome
Hamachi donburi was good
The mochi with bacon with tasty
Minus: needed an extra bowl and our waiter was unavailable on the other side of the room. Asked the blue-eyed, non-Japanese waiter who was literally at my elbow for a bowl. He rudely replied that he was not our server and was too busy. My companion and I were shocked. Never experienced that at a restaurant, especially a Japanese one.
A Different Way
We were pleasantly surprised at a different way of presenting Japanese food, which we welcome. The quality and taste of foodand the service did not disappoint either. We had a great time her and would definitelt come back. If and when we have out of town visitors, this would be one of the suggestions!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Japanese cuisine
Six of us were well taken care of very well by waiter who knew some of the dishes new to us very well. Somewhat pricey partly because of the wine list. 2 bottles of an ordinary Italian white plus food, tax and tip totaled around $75 each but food like no other I have had.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service, amazing food! Cute little restaurant
Wow the ramen here is fantastic! Not to hate on the Ramen Shop in Berkeley, but this is my new favorite place. We also had the bacon mochi and that was also fantastic. Our waiter was super nice and there was great service all around.
Very cute little restaurant, they have outdoor dining with sun umbrellas as well.
Highly recommend. Itโs also a nice stop if youโre shopping around on 4th street and need to refuel.
Excellent Take-out Japanese fusion lunch
We had a gift certificate which we used to enjoy an excellent take-out lunch: Iyasare kakiage tempura, suzuki yaki and sashimi mori. Portions were plentiful, enough for two lunches for the two of us. We would definitely order the same thing the next time. We know that if we had eaten the tempura, it would have been over-the-top excellent but by the time we got the dish home, it had lost some of the crispiness. The sashimi mori had a wonderful collection, but our most favorite plate was the grilled suzuki yaki (grilled sea bass). A wonderful treat in the time of Covid!!! Highly recommended. A big shout-out to Dan for helping us with our order.

This review is long overdue. We had an amazing celebratory dinner for my sonโs wedding at Iyasare. There were 12 of us and Daniel did a great job of separating the tables on the front patio to ensure safety. He and the chef created an incredible menu for us. I mean really incredible!!! The food and service was outstanding. It made our celebration so memorable, especially in these difficult times. His wine and sake suggestions were perfect. Simply an outstanding evening. I heartily recommend this restaurant. Daniel and team - if you see this, THANKS!
Be the first to Replybeyond the usual Japanese restaurant
creative style, ingenious combinations - sushi joints are boring in comparison. Evolved from an outstanding Japanese fusion restaurant with new management and even better now
Be the first to ReplyInnovative Cuisine
I met friends here last night for dinner and was very impressed. Drinks were tasty and creative. Excellent sake. Veg tempura was really tasty. Seaweed salad was outstanding. Ramen noodles are not to be missed.
Be the first to ReplyConsistently great
Japanese cuisine with Californian ingredients blend at this quaint but busy Berkeley restaurant. The small plates included a wonderful smoky eggplant with miso a delight for the senses. SAKE YAKI a
cedar plank grilled, tamari-konbu cured scottish salmon served on shimeji mushroom and baby bok choy. I had the yam dessert which not too sweet and perfect for my palate-perhaps a crunchy element with it would have been great
I will be back !
