Great brunch for weekdays
I have been hearing about this place since I moved to Vancouver in 2017, but due to the long line ups, I postponed to try this place... However, on my last birthday, it was a Wednesday, and I was off work with my husband, I decided to have a brunch there! No regrets at all! There was no line up...yeyyyy our food choices were fantastic and the portions big to satisfy someone very hungry! I didn't save room for a waffle... definitely I will come back soon for it! Prices were average and the service good.

Really can't say enough about this place from the HUGE inventive menu to the friendliness of the servers. It took me a while to decide on my dish but I settled on the "Gravy coop" which was a huge biscuit (like 6 inches across!) with two pieces of fried chicken (also available with pork belly), topped with two sunny side eggs, green onions, sausage (or mushroom) gravy, with an enormous side of decadent hash browns. The cafe is known for their selection of "bennys" which my friend ordered and said was delicious. If you look around, you will see other patrons watch what is being delivered to the other tables and more times than not, they will strike up a friendly conversation about what was ordered. We had the pleasure of striking up a conversation with the young man who sat next to us as we asked him what he was having. His cinnamon bun pancake had to be 9" across and he told us he only ordered one as it is normally a 3 stack. Can't even imagine! I don't recall the other dish he ordered but it also looked amazing. We conversed with him throughout the meal which made the morning even more enjoyable. To our new friend if you are reading this; we THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts. The cafe is smallish so there is often a line outside. Please don't let this dissuade you, it is truly worth the wait.

The lineup wasn't too long even though it was a weekday and mid morning. I ordered the smoke salmon and avocado benny and it was the last to come. I was so hungry that I didn't notice that they had forgot to add the avocado until I got home with my leftover. The food and service was good that I would still go back there but take more notice that my order had everything.

Stumbled across a line up for Jam Cafe. Googled it to see what the hype is about, excellent reviews. Went back the next day to stand in line with my tea/coffee, chatted with others inline. Waitress came out to give us updates on the wait time and offered us menus to look at. 30 minutes (not bad) we walked into an adorable cafe. All staff were friendly and very efficient. The food is hands down amazing! Yes, potions are big, but it will fill your belly for most of that day! Great experience all around!
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyable experience and good food
We have been to Jam a number of times but have never gotten around to reviewing it. We went on Labour Day so the line was long but moved quickly. The hostess managed the process well and everyone was friendly and having a good time. We chose to take bar seats when they were available and were handled well by the staff there. Everyone we dealt with was pleasant and seemed to really be engaged with customers. Avocado Benny was excellent and blueberry pancakes were very well done--specifically there were lots of blueberries inside the pancakes, not just on top. Yes the servings are large but they are made for sharing and we have done this in the past without any problem. All in all a very pleasant experience and since we live fairly close we will continue visiting (but maybe during the week when it's a bit les crowded.
Be the first to ReplyWhy so many people lining up there.I am very surprise.
A waste of food. Too big a serving, too much ingredients in one dish.I don't see any one in the room can finish their food.No one! They should cut down the volume and improve their quality instead. Will never go back.
Be the first to ReplyNo thanks.
Not worth lining up for. My breakfast was cold (benny), potatoes were greasy and soggy. Also, overheard the staff talking about customers (how tacky). Expensive and disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyFun place, come hungry
There are plenty of reviews, so I'll just do some highlights. The portions are huge. You may be able to finish their chicken waffle if you are really hungry. I don't think there's a person in their right mind that can finish the pancakes alone. These are huge. You'll see people walking out with leftovers. No shame in that. Despite the portion sizes, the quality is good. The Brioche for French toast is fresh, the pancakes batter is not oversweetened. There are good reasons this place is so popular. Being popular, there's usually a line outside. If there are just the two of you, you may be seated pretty quickly. We waited about 10 minutes. But if you are a larger group, you may need some patience. Come in a good mood. Come hungry. This place is really worth it.

Daughter and I had breakfast on a holiday during a YVR layover. We saw the que and decided that if the wait was too long, we'd plan to eat at Sophie's right next door. A wait was expected and happily accepted bar seating to bypass 3-4 other parties (and waiting 5+ minutes). Being a bit full from airline breaky, we decided to share a benny dish and a single pancake! Great staff (and seemed so much more personable because we were sitting so close to them/action)!! Excellent service, ambiance, and food! We loved it but my husband wouldn't (because the chatter and music would be on the louder side for him). I totally recommend you try Jam Cafe!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, terrible service
Came for breakfast on Thursday before 9am. The music was blasting to the point that conversation was difficult. We were seated at the community table, even though there were tables available and we were obviously a family. Hot water we ordered was never delivered, cold water was never refilled. Food was as good as always, and presented nicely, but the fact that their lowest expected tip is set at 18%…. Made me cringe.
Be the first to ReplyGreat brunch
We had a very brunch here last weekend. The food here was absolutely delicious and the staff are super nice. Definitely recommend coming early as the line gets long! The service was amazing and the fried chicken Benedict was my favourite. Can't wait to come back again soon.
Be the first to ReplyGreat breakfast
I was surprised only a 15 minutes wait when we got there 12:45pm on Monday. I was prepared to wait longer. Once in the food comes out quick. We enjoyed the Buffalo blue benny and the pulled pork Later Gator bowl. The portions are a good size so one plate should suffice, just focus on the great taste and don't think about calories.
Be the first to ReplyWorth the wait
We waited for close to 30 mins but the food, service staff and ambiance inside made it all worth while. Ordered veggie bowl, too much for me and i had to bring it back to the hotel.
Be the first to ReplyKicked out five minutes after we paid
The food was good and we were having a nice time up until we paid. We sat at our table a few minutes after paid, (there were also empty tables available), and were told by a staff member that we had been there too long and had to leave. We had been there for only an hour and on a Monday morning (so not exactly busy)... And had only just finished eating.

Jam Café first established itself as a breakfast heavyweight in Victoria (2012). Following a segment on the popular Food Network series “You Gotta Eat Here,” the line-ups increased tenfold and have yet to subside nearly a decade later. Indeed, given the success of Jam Café, you’d expect it to expand – open more locations – and it did just that. In 2016, Jam Café opened a location in Vancouver on Beatty Street. Another location in the Kitsilano neighbourhood soon followed in 2018. This review will focus on the Kits restaurant, which I attended earlier this summer with the dear family.
Those who follow me on this site know I’m not really much of a breakfast person but, when I’ve got a craving, I’m darn sure going to get it! That’s what happened when I was visiting Vancouver with the folks. They’re pretty big on breakfast, so it wasn’t hard to convince them to come out and try Jam Café. We arrived to the Kits location at mid-morning, on a weekday. As expected, there was a bit of a line; however, it was fairly small in comparison to what I’ve seen at the Victoria location. We ended up waiting for about 20 minutes before getting a table . . . that’s not a bad wait time!
The Kitsilano location maintains the rustic, eclectic vibe of the other two Jam Cafés, though it is certainly much more subdued. The giant moose head and light fixtures in wire cages make up the brunt of “weird” and “Canadiana” here. I suspect this “toning down” was strategic and intentional; after all, we are in trendy Kitsilano – not near Chinatown in Victoria or Vancouver. As such, the restaurant is tailored to the neighbourhood and that makes perfect sense.
Dining capacity has no doubt been limited by COVID, but Jam Café seems to be handling it in stride. All of the necessary safety protocols are being followed: Hand-sanitizer is readily available, servers wear masks, and diners are separated by plexiglass barriers. Given the eclectic nature of Jam Café, the barriers don’t actually detract from the dining experience, which is a definite plus.
In any event, after consulting the diverse menu, we ordered the Blackstone Benny, Old Town Breakfast (x2), and the Apple Cinnamon Waffle. I won’t bother describing each item in detail, but will say the Kits location continues the tradition of offering large – high quality portions – at very fair prices. My grandmother thoroughly enjoyed the Benny, noting that the poached eggs were “perfect.” Likewise, my aunt and grandfather enjoyed their more traditional “Old Town Breakfast.” My Apple Cinnamon Waffle was good (crisp exterior, soft interior), but I do think they went a little heavy with the maple butter – parts of the waffle were awfully sweet. Still, everyone enjoyed their respective breakfasts.
FOOD: 5/5
SERVICE: 5/5
VALUE: 5/5
RECOMMENDATION: Jam Café is a fun place. The décor, while downplayed at the Kits location, hints at the eclectic but tasty menu. If you want savory, you can have it. If you want sweet, there’s plenty of that, too. In that regard, I’d agree with Vancouver Foodster and say Jam Café is indeed “breakfast central.” Whether you visit the Victoria or Vancouver locations, you’re sure to have a good meal. Highly recommended!

WOW! DELICIOUS!! YUM!!!
After reading the YVR dining reviews, we were curious about the Jam Cafe. Sure glad we did, what a wonderful way to start yr day!!!
We were seated promptly, the service was friendly, a great selection of breakfast items. We highly recommend the Blackstone Benny & the Later Tater Bowl; great portion size, absolutely delicious!
Highly recommend!
Really?...an auto gratuity of 18% for a group 6 people?..irregardless of service??
The food was pretty good but I am just upset at these restaurants that demand an 18% auto gratuity for groups of 6 or more. First of all, why are you penalizizing people for being a group of 6 or more? And how can you demand for 18% service when you have not even provided the service? I just don;t get it. Serving one table for 6 people is equal or even less work than serving 2 separate tables of 3's. Where is the logic?
Be the first to Replyvery busy and popular place
Very busy with long line ups for lunch. We had small side orders at the counter, which were okay but nothing extraordinary.. Very popular and chic. Don’t quite understand what the hype is about.
Be the first to ReplyI’m new to biscuits but these totally took the biscuit
I’d heard about Jam and did intend to go the the Beatty street location but had chance to head out to Kitsilano so made sense to go there. short wait but it was Monday at 1pm. great service and food was something else. As i’m english biscuits are a little aliens to me, but these ‘scones’ with green eggs and and ham were great. i love to try something different and this was no exception. Would certainly revisit on my next trip to the Vancouver area
