Jamavar London Reviews from The Last Year
7 years since my first visit and still excellent!
What a lovely place to lunch. Superb service and atmosphere with amazing food - my dining partner and I were very very pleased with the while thing. Best butter chicken I have ever eaten and the potatoes were off the charts too! Highly highly recommended.
Horrible customer service
Unfortunately Jamavar did not live up to the standards whatsoever after attempting to amend my booking due to an emergency. I was spoken to very rudely on the phone by the so-called manager who informed me that I was not able to amend so close to the booking, although that is not the issue. The issue was her rude tone and terrible and unwelcoming attitude while explaining it. After telling her that her tone was rude, she disregarded that and continued to speak in the same manner. I was once a loyal customer to Jamavar, but after this disappointing experience I would choose a restaurant where the staff are kinder and value customer service.
Dangerously delicious!!
Great Saturday lunch! We went for 4-courses and every course was dangerously delicious! I consumed more food than I neededā¦ butter chicken being my favourite! The warm gulab jamun was just the perfect finish!
Disappointing
As part of a surprise birthday trip to London my partner booked this restaurant for one of our evening meals. As it holds a Michelin star, we were expecting something special. Unfortunately, this was not the case. We started off sharing two dishes from the small plates menu; the scallops were very nice and the sauce didnāt mask the scallopsā delicate flavour. The lobster dish was unexceptional, with the lobster flavour completely overwhelmed by the sauce. For mains, we ordered the Dum Nalli Biryani, which was basically pieces of lamb, lots of rice, and a boiled egg, all hidden under a pastry crust which was theatrically removed by the waiter. It was served with a raita. There were supposed to be crispy onions included in the main dish but I donāt remember seeing any vegetables at all. The flavour was rather bland. The other main was butter chicken ā chicken pieces swimming in a pleasant sauce, but again, nothing outstanding. Based on these mediocre tasting dishes, we decided not to bother with dessert. We'd had expectations of exciting, spice filled dishes but ended up feeling disappointed. Weāve enjoyed better meals at our local curry restaurant for a fraction of the price.
One of my favourite restaurants in London- & the best & most gracious service
I came here solo to try the set game menu which formally expired at the end of January. It was a week before the formal end date but it rapidly became apparent that - on that day at least - the chef simply didnāt have enough of the ingredients to make it worthwhile. I explained that Iād come especially for the set game menu - and mused that perhaps I should leave. The waiter look like he was about to cry. One of the managers came over to persuade me to have the regular set menu. He was so charming that I agreed - and took the wine flight as well. The food was as delicious as ever. When I asked for the bill at the end, the waiter explained that the 2 managers (1 English & 1 Indian) had agreed that I should not be charged for the six course set menu, circa Ā£100 !! I paid for the wine flight so the restaurant washed its face. Rarely have I encountered such a stylish and generous gesture - thank you- I just wish I knew the two managersā names ! I am now a loyal customer for life.
Great value for money
Had a fabulous lunch with my friends. The food was really good and of generous quantity. The ambience and service were great too.
Great value for money!
I went for the tasting menu and it was so overwhelming. Each course was a treat and the the portions were so generous. I couldn't finish my main course and they were even kind enough to pack the left over food for me. Overall it was money spend well.
A night to remember
Together with five other business friends, we took part in a congress in London. As a "London" connoisseur, I was responsible for the supporting programme. As the group consisted of vegetarians and carnivores, I suggested Indian food in a sophisticated setting for the first evening. All the participants raved about the food and drinks and everyone took a business card for their next visit with their partner. The evening was a complete success and the fellow travellers are still raving about it. In 2024, the travelling group will use the congress as an alibi and focus solely on the gastronomic experience. This restaurant has already been finalised as a destination.
Best Indian food ever !

Incredible food! Delicious drinks! Great service! We are from California - had high expectations of Indian food in London. This place exceeded our expectations in every way.

Top notch Indian food in London that will not disappoint.
Service is impeccable. Only thing is the music is a bit dance club like for dinner. Otherwise, will return another time.

Service was awesome and the meal from start to finish was amazing including the drink & wine. Our top favorites were the milk pistachio cake, the morels dish, truffle kicchadi, and the paneer. Pulao & jamavar dhal were also cooked nicely. Can tell they use good ingredients and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. The restaurant is more upscale, so dress appropriately.
Not sure how they earned and maintain a Michelin star.
We went there with high expectations, and had the tasting menu. Overall, the first several courses were amazing. They were absolutely perfect - though the lamb chops could have done with a little more spice. The last course of Butter chicken, daal makhani and saag paneer, with an assortment of naans were a bit of a disappointment. They were on the blander side, and the naans were cold and rubbery - not something one would expect in a tasting menu. The desserts were good, but not great. So, food good, but not 1-star worthy. Presentation - non-existent! At most 2 of the courses were 'pretty', but the rest of them were quite unimpressively laid out - again, not 1-star worthy. Service - this is where this restaurant completely lost us. We arrived on time, and despite making the reservation months ago, were given a small table right at the back of the restaurant next to the billing station. it was crammed and lacked any privacy. Service was unattentive, and we literally had to keep asking them for it. After the 1st course arrived, we still hadn't gotten our drinks. Upon reminding them of that, the waiter returned to our table and had to retake our drinks order. Ever heard of that in a Michelin starred restaurant??? They had been informed that I was allergic to shellfish - and so brought me a substitute for my 1st course. However, that simple fact was forgotten in the 2nd course serving. Luckily I asked - otherwise, I would have been in serious trouble. Bottomline is that this is by far the worst service we've ever had a restaurant of this caliber. I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't able to retain it next go round.

Still scratching our heads as to how this restaurant has a Michelin star. Most of the food was very good, but then there were several things that were lacking - that you never encounter in a restaurant of such rating. The first thing we noticed as we entered was that all the brown people were seated towards the back of the restaurant...... many of the "brown people" were from the US - today's big spenders, but I figure these guys never got the message. Service was absolutely lousy. We had to constantly call out to the staff for service. Our drinks required a reminder and arrived after our first course. I'm allergic to shellfish, and one of the courses they apparently forgot that..... a BIG no-no in my books - especially when I am extremely allergic to shellfish. The first several courses of the tasting menu (we seemed to be the only people there doing the tasting menu) were amazing! However, the courses towards the end were just so-so. The butter chicken was a bit strange, the accompaniments - daal makhani and saag paneer were just about OK. The naans not great - in fact not even good - they were on the harder side and barely warm. The desserts while good, were just OK - and poorly presented. In fact all the dishes were presented rather poorly - with may be 1 of them being photo worthy. SO, overall, lousy service. Not-so-good presentation of the dishes. Most food items were excellent - though lacking towards the end - so inconsistent quality. Given that ratings are generally based on the tasting menu, I won't be surprised if these guys lose their 1 star rating in the near future.

We had tickets to a show at the West End so wanted to have a fancy dinner out. We made reservations and as soon as we arrived we were seated. They were attentive throughout dinner and very polite. The restaurant was elegantly decorated, a nice date place. So to the important part, the food. I ordered the Old Delhi Butter Chicken and my husband ordered the biryani. We also had mixed breads for the table. For drinks, I got the lassi and my husband got the Spring Garden. The presentation was beautiful. The lassi had a small flower floating in it. It cut through the spice nicely. The Spring Garden was a refreshing fruit drink. I really enjoyed the butter chicken. The sauce was great over rice or on the naan. The biryani came covered by a pastry cap that they cut off revealing a steamy bowl of well seasoned rice and meat. It was all very good but at twice the cost of average Indian food. However, average Indian food is still pretty good at arguably a better value. So ultimately, this is a special occasion place.
We made a reservation for Jamavar months in advance.
I asked the dress code and was told casual. When we arrived with our two teenaged boys, we were turned away at the door. The boys had on a button down collared shirt with khaki shorts. Apparently, casual didn't mean shorts no matter how nicely dressed they were. They then charged us $100 the next day for not making our reservation. We not only had to scramble for another dinner, but were charged for breaking our reservation. So disappointing.

Yes it's fine dining and it lives up to to the standard.
Great food and ambiance, ok service, CTM was good as was the garlic naan and rich, butter chicken was fine, lamb chops were undercooked and a rip off for the price, would go again minus the chops.

I paid for a reservation to Golden Steer. I looked at the details. The confirmation screenshot was to another restaurant in Miami.
