Javier's Gourmet Mexicano Dallas Reviews from The Last Year

This was our family's first time at Javier's and we had an overall great experience - I was I could give 4.5 stars. We had family come in from out of town and we wanted to take them to a place well-known in Dallas for great experiences and wonderful food. I always appreciate when you can make a reservation, although we had to call the restaurant as opposed to being able to do it online. We were seated as soon as we got there and I was pleased that we (there were 7 of us) were put at a round table which always makes for great conversation where no one feels left out. The ambiance inside is wonderful and they even have spots where you can tuck away for a more quiet and secluded experience. The food and drinks did not disappoint! They don't have a kid's menu, but if you ask they can make something special and much simpler for them. My daughter ordered the beef/steak and thought it was absolutely delicious - she is a very picky eater. The only miss with our experience was that there was cheese on our beans and it wasn't indicated on the menu. Seems small, but as someone who doesn't enjoy cheese on their food I am always careful to read what's in my food and I'm sure to order it without cheese. Both my daughter and I received the beans with cheese on them so we had to ask them to remake it without it. Not overall terrible, and they fixed the issue quickly, but something to note if you're like us and you don't want cheese on your food.
Javier's is a place to be seen in Dallas.
Unfortunately, that means you don't really go here for the food and service anymore. Dining area is loud and cramped. Food was average and service was slow.

We have loved Javiers for 30 years! We moved from Dallas several years ago and never return for a visit with a meal at Javier's. the filet Cantiflas, green salsa and Cafe Pierre are our favorites. Five stars!

I do not understand the reviewers that said the staff is only friendly to their regular patrons. We moved from Dallas to NY in 1999, but I always loved Javier's. This weekend we were in Dallas for a wedding and decided to stay over Sunday evening. We made a reservation at Javier's and from the moment we arrived, from the valet, to the receptionist, to the manager, to the servers everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We were greeted and served by no less than a half dozen people, and everyone was wonderful. There was no cigar smoking either, as some reviewers have mentioned. I love the atmosphere here, and the decor. The food was great. I highly recommend this place to everyone.
The cigar bar is one of the best around.
The drinks and servers make it even better. Great after work place to unwind.
Big fan of Javier's.
Fajitas are some of the better quality fajitas I've had in Dallas. We tried the ceviche and the nachos to start, and both are really good. The drinks are strong. Oh, and they have a cigar bar for post dinner hang out.

We've lived in Dallas our whole lives and had never been to Javier's. We finally secured reservations this past Sunday. We were surprised to find a fairly limited menu... definitely more wine/beer/cocktail options than food. The menu is not the typical Tex-Mex entrees one sees in Dallas. It is true Mexican cuisine. We found the complimentary salsas rather bland, the red salsa tasting more like tomato soup with the same consistency of soup. Our entrees were fine. I had a grilled shrimp dish and Halotus had a steak with a molé sauce. The service was fine... much better than what has been mentioned in other reviews. I gave four stars as the food is overpriced, even with current inflation. Additionally, parking is cramped with valet or Uber being the only real options.
Javier's Gourmet Mexicano in Dallas, Texas, never
Javier's Gourmet Mexicano in Dallas, Texas, never disappoints. The ambiance is warm and inviting with just the right touch of Mexico, making it a perfect setting for any occasion. The skinny margaritas are divine--not tart, full of flavor, and hand-made, not from a mix. The menu goes beyond typical Tex-Mex offerings, but those familiar items are there for those who crave them. A must-try is the Filete Durango--wow! Our server was perfect, giving us ample time to visit without being pushy about ordering, yet always attentive to our needs. My friend and I shared the Filete Durango, complemented by broccoli with Béarnaise sauce. The portion size was just right after we devoured the small guacamole, which at other places would be considered a large portion. Our waiter split the meal beautifully, presenting it so well that it looked like individual servings. We concluded our meal with a huge slice of key lime pie--again, not your typical Tex-Mex dessert--and an Americano coffee. The coffee not only smelled amazing but was also delicious, making it a perfect end to the meal. There are many amazing Tex-Mex restaurants in Dallas, but Javier's is a locals' favorite and a must-try for visitors. Make sure to map it, as it's a hidden gem. The restaurant has plenty of private areas, beautiful artwork, and seems to go on and on. Once dinner is complete, hop over to the Knox-Henderson area for a little shopping--one of the highlights of Dallas. There are no malls, but you'll find stores you recognize and quaint little shops you won't, so wear good walking shoes.
I've been going to Javier's, off and on, for the past two
I've been going to Javier's, off and on, for the past two decades and have gotten consistently good service and food. Do know that it lies directly adjacent to Highland Park and is definitely a "see and be seen" spot for that neighborhood. Don't be surprised to see entire families show up "en masse" in their $120,000 Cadillac Escalade. If that sort of wealth bothers you than you might want to consider another venue. That said, no one bothers you or even looks at you twice. My favorite part of the restaurant is their cigar bar which is one of only a small handful left in Dallas. Although super cool, it has gotten increasingly more stringent over the years. More and more tables are reserved for large parties who are obviously regulars. Service isn't rude per se, but don't expect a great deal of attention if you're a party of two who only wants to have a beer / wine and smoke a cigar. Technically, you're not supposed to bring in your own cigars. But they've always tolerated my CAO cigarillos since it's just my fiancee and I. And of course, remember that it's a hot spot for the Dallas elite. It's not uncommon to see parties of famous peeps come in. Just sit back, relax and enjoy yourself and everything will be fine. Oh yeah...they will make you take your baseball cap off inside the cigar bar!
Javier's is our Mexican go to in the Knox Henderson area.
Service is always impeccable and the food outstanding! Dying to try the cigar bar, but have not had an opportunity to do so yet! Valet parking a must, especially for dinner.
Five star service at reasonable prices.
I've never had a bad meal at Javier's and they are always able to accommodate various dietary restrictions. The staff is always courteous and accommodating.
Have been here many times.
Food has always been solid until recently. And if you are trying to go the the cigar bar, forget it!! I called to see if we could reserve a table and the said no, we arrived and found an empty table. We approached the table and was told they it was reserved. I guess unless you are some big shot you can't reserve a table. Their loss!! Would not waste your time!! Go somewhere else!!! Will never try to come here again!!

Well I typically don't give to bad of reviews but I will say for this place it's a no for me and the crew the food was just not at it's best definitely not fresh at all i know good food The host we had was very distracted by the t.v just us asking him simple questions was what it seemed like we where irritating him we had to ask for plates silverware pretty much everything. It was probably one of the most uncomfortable places/experiences I've ever encountered in dallas so that's my reason for the 2 star to each its own but I will not be going back.
What real authentic Mexican owner would serve flour
What real authentic Mexican owner would serve flour tortillas with queso fundido¿ It's a rhetorical question of course. His staff is amazing though with the exception of unfortunately THE OWNER! Yes !! I said it. A bit stuffy for my liking, but then again as my grandmother ( may she rest in peace) would say "no soy monedita de oro para caerle bien a todos" His smoke lounge is amazing though !!! Oh and his quail is Devine. Chefs kiss

While the food and atmosphere were amazing, the differentiator is the level of personalized service! We enjoyed queso panella and cheese stuffed butterflied filets.
Overpriced food for mediocre service.
Asked for grilled veggies instead of boiled veggies..broccoli/carrots ppl, nothing fancy and they were unable to substitute. That's disappointing for a $30 entree!! Bump! Take your business elsewhere.

Dallas classic Javier's has been serving the margaritas & texmex, a long time. This place is old school, with fish and game lining the walls, the only cigar bar inside a restaurant in DFW, and plenty of waiters, bringing the food & drinks. It is usually crowded as it was on this Tuesday night in February. My son, in his last semester at nearby SMU, said how about Javier's dad? As usual it was on point. We both had the quail and we both recommend it. Love the chips y salsa here. Valet and some free street parking.
Incredible food and service! Highly recommend--can't wait
Incredible food and service! Highly recommend--can't wait to go back. Butter and salsa is my new thing!
Husband and I stopped a few minutes before they opened.
Asked if we had reservation, no which is why we are here at 456 pm. Our waiter was a nice polite gentleman great customer service. Coming from Houston we were not impressed. It is pricey but guess that is due to location and locals having the $$$$ to pay for okay food with great service at local establishment. No reason to come back. No happy hour, regular margaritas $13.95. Modelo beer $7.95
Loyal customers for years. Disappointed
Refused to serve my fiancé a drink saying he was too intoxicated when he had one drink. Been very loyal customers there for over 20 years. Extremely disappointed at the service and that situation.
