FLUCTUATING PRICES11
Strange pricing on items especially specials: Chicken soup "caldo de pollo" which consisted of simple chicken broth, some pieces of chicken and vegetables was priced at $49.00!!! What Mexican restaurant charges $49.00 for a simple bowl of chicken soup, JAVIERS! It was $25.00 the week before! Daniel the manager must have been hit with the "greed streak" that day! With the exception of the price gouging, the atmosphere is 3.5 could be better but it gets loud! Restaurant seating indoors is pretty much on the "dimly lit/dark side; not really pleasant on a beautiful day; seating outdoors is just that; sitting outdoors. Service varies from waiter to waiter; most are disinterested and just "work as usual" especially for "gringos! Diner beware; better to go for good food; decent prices and better service than location!
Be the first to ReplyPOOR MANAGER!
Been here several times. This one was a surprise! INFLATION ALA KEVIN? Ordered an "off the menu but simple chicken soup aka caldo de poll0"; minimal ingredients, maybe 6 at most including the broth. Requested this as on a previous stop the soup was good and affordable @ $20.00 although more than what one would pay at a typical Mexican restaurant ($14-16.00) that includes rice, salsa, lime/lemon, cabbage, etc. This time around, the waiter stated he would ask if the soup could be made, if it wasn't too busy . . . got the soup; it was good, small but good. Then the charge: $34.00! Got charged for the "Pollo Asado" because according to KEVIN the manager, it was "very busy"!! NOTE: it wasn't busy when we arrived and "wasn't busy when we left" lots of vacant tables throughout. ¡pobrecito! Kevin! Guess he needs a pay raise? Mexican food with an "up-town locale" doesn't justify over-charging! Enough! Diners who don't know real Mexican food might want to pass this place, especially when Kevin is around!
Be the first to ReplySacrilegious Place
A sacrilegious place with utter disrespect to the Catholic church and Catholics altogether. They build the restaurant in a shape of a church with a fount in the middle and the bathrooms are the exact replica of the confession box. Candles and altar with skulls and bones. I don't know how many have come and gone without an uproar.
Be the first to ReplyMy favorite place to eat!
Javier’s is my favorite restaurant! It doesn’t matter if I’m at the one in San Diego, Cabo or Las Vegas. It’s great every single time!! Service is great and the ambiance there is always so nice. Although we had reservations, we still had to wait like 20-30 minutes to be seated, but we went on a Saturday night and everyone was out the night! Waiting didn’t bother me because I knew my Chile Negro and Black mamba was waiting for me. So good!!

The place was amazing it had a great vibe and wonderful atmosphere. I had the Enchiladas de Mariscos they were delicious and very flavorful. When I’m town again will definitely will return.
Be the first to ReplyHorrible
Absolutely horrible! Our waiter could not have been ruder. He came to our table and without a smile or pleasant tone said “I’ll be your waiter any questions ?”. We smiled and asked a few questions he then very rudely said that’s what I just said … really? The night went from bad to worse . We waited for everything water , chips salsa The food was average and over priced. I will never go back.

Great for a nice night out! Beautiful inside- perfect for a date-night or great girls night. Food and service was equally as good. We went out on a night a table was celebrating a tequila birthday- so it was kinda loud... would go back or probably be asked to be moved in the event we came across something similar. We were not on the same party-vibe as them that night. lol.
Be the first to ReplyTrendy restaurant that was a lot of fun.
Went to Javier’s for the first time. Loved it. Food was great. Ambiance was great. Very trendy, especially at night. Service was fine. Lots of young people and energy. I share this not to be negative, but to give you realistic expectations. It was a little loud, but that’s common for a trendy place. Is it expensive, yes. Is it busy/packed, yes. Is it family friendly, at night, not really. Highly recommend making reservations in advance. And yes, I would definitely go again.
Be the first to ReplyToo expensive for the cost.
Very expensive for lunch. Drinks are highly overpriced. Have never walked away from an expensive meal like this feeling extremely disappointed. Food wasn’t impressive. Fajitas had more giant vegetables and onions than meat. Meat was tender but not worth what was charged. We don’t plan to return.
Be the first to ReplyFamily unfriendly, don’t eat there!
Go if you want to be pushed out the door and told that children don’t eat and drink alcohol by the manager Gonzalo. Very bad service. We waited 45 minutes for our family to go to car to drop off the stroller so that we can hold baby all night during dinner. Then manager Gonzalo had the nerve to tell me not yo complain or else he will ask us yo leave. Unbelievable. Go elsewhere in this shopping center, plenty of family friendly options.
Be the first to ReplySuch a bummer to get bad food and terrible service
Horrendous service and bad food! Parents went there Sunday night for dinner while on vacation with 6pm dinner reservations. Waited a extremely long time to Valet the car which made them 5 minutes late for dinner reservations. Since they were late for dinner reservations that had to wait an additional 25 minutes for table. When seated they were placed upfront behind hostess stand. When their order came of the special white shrimp and Chile Relleno meal it was not even Luke warm. Wanting to exit quickly after the cold meal (waitress never came by to check on food) and had to wait a long time for the bill, they paid cash with 20 percent tip , they jammed outside to start 10 minute wait for valet car. While waiting the waitress came running up to them accusing them of not paying bill!!! She opened black bill slip in front of them and saw cash and said "oh my mistake, thanks". When I called Junior the manager to explain what happened to him, he explained that they trade out waitresses often and that it could have been anyone. He then asked what did I want from him and what was my point in calling to tell him!!!! What a bummer that now we can never go back to what was our favorite restaurant. I let the restaurant manager know I would be writing this review....he did not seem to care.
Be the first to ReplyTacos Dorados - Okay, but Barely any Taco Sauce
I ordered two beef tacos dorados, and they were flavorful, although overpriced for something as simple as a shredded beef taco. However, to be honest, I was well aware my meal would be expensive at Javier's before I even ordered the meal. But, hey ... I was driving along the Coast Highway, and became ravenous for some Mexican food. So, the high prices at Javier's were no big surprise to me, although I can easily make the same shredded beef tacos in my own home, and for a fraction of the cost. For this reason, I deducted one star from this review. As usual, the restaurant itself was crowded, with people everywhere, and many people were still wearing their beach attire, so the atmopshere was casual and informal. It was very noisy and hard to converse with the waitstaff inside. I didn't stay long, just long enough to pay for my two tacos, and return to my scenic drive along the Coast Highway. The tacos were good, but not extraordinary. Just two crispy beef tacos, with beef, lettuce and cheese, and NOT enough taco sauce - barely any taco sauce! Seriously, tacos are all about taco sauce. Where was the taco sauce??? So, I deducted two more stars due to the lack of taco sauce.

Have been to Javier's many time. The parking feels a bit chaotic however it is definitely worth it. Make sure to call ahead of time to reserve your seats. It makes it easier on everyone. The food is incredibly fresh. From the chile verde porc that just melts in your mouth, to the trio ceviche, steak... delicious. The women's restroom sucks though. Only 3 cabins, often there is a waiting line. Make sure you go pee before arriving to make it easier on yourself lol. Otherwise just wait & make sure to bring tip for the worker in the restroom who hands out the soap and napkins, etc. I would share photos of the food.. However, i always eat it all and forget to take a photo prior😭😭😭 Your water glass is always filled up, without asking The servers work really hard, great team. It's a really nice restaurant. By far some of the best ceviche I have ever had Also they are soooo sweet. They gave me a desert for my birthday. The servers are amazing 💗💗💗💗

Lunch is Javier’s is the perfect way to spend a Friday afternoon and start the weekend. The food is creative and delicious. As a vegetarian I was thrilled to find inventive creations-the Spinach Enchiladas were stuffed with corn and spinach, topped with a flavorful pepper sauce. My husband enjoyed the chicken fajitas. The chips delivered to the table were crispy with a spicy red salsa. Service at Javier’s is attentive and friendly. Do sit outside-the view is spectacular and the breeze is lovely.
Be the first to ReplyFood is still good
We used to come here really often, however, it now feels over expanded. We turned up at 6pm on a Tuesday and valet parking was full. We had booked a table and still had to wait 30 min to be seated. I feel this restaurant has become too big (large outdoor seating area) and everyone seemed super stressed. Staff was friendly but rushed. Food was great but $40 for the enchilada trio did not feel justified. Overall it was very loud.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect early evening date
While visiting Newport Beach, my husband and I decided to grab a bite and drink here. We didn't have reservations so just asked to sit in the bar area and were seated in a perfect booth. We started with the ceviche, Javier's margarita and a spicy jalepeno margarita and were blown away. It was all so great! We'd planned to just have a drink and an appetizer but stayed for dinner. Service was fantastic as well. It was getting pretty busy by the time we left (around 7:30) so I'd recommend going earlier if you don't have reservations.
Be the first to ReplyNO Parking
Greeted with ABSOLUTELY NO PARKING. Valet closed and zero parking within .5 miles. Witness a fight over a parking space. Police were called. Then we were sat in a back room that was cooled to the temp of a walk in refrigerator. Mgr was asked by SEVERAL to turn it down. I don’t believe they did. Margaritas USED to be the best in the business, and I didn’t mind terribly, spending $15 for one. NOW, they are $21 with most likely no more than 4oz of liquid, total. Ice was PACKED into a highball glass, with little room fir anything else. Drink tasted like watery lemonade. I was very disappointed. Food however, was exceptional, and definitely up to the standards we are used to. We had never been to THIS Javier’s. We have been to Irvine and Las Vegas. We will never go back to this Newport location, primarily due to the parking. I will be anxious to see if all the restaurants have ruined their margaritas or if it’s only this one. For $21 I expect to be able to taste the tequila. 😔
Be the first to ReplyHostesses disappoint
The hostesses always seem to have a predjudice disposition. They are not friendly or welcoming. Which is too bad because the food, service and ambiance is A1.
Be the first to ReplyToo LOUD! Food is good but overpriced. Too long time for check and payment. We couldn’t wait to leave, so LOUD.
We asked for outside seating and were placed into a metal roof tube with glass walls. No sound dampening in the ceiling or elsewhere. We wanted to move but we had a large party of 16. Could not hear the person next to you let alone across or the waiter. Wait staff excellent but I’d never go back no matter how good the food or service was. Too LOUD. We couldn’t wait to get out of there. It ended with waiting a long time for someone to come by so we could ask for the check and to pay.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place!
Exceptional Mexican fine dining. The food and service was superb. The waiters were very attentive and the food was both authentic while being sophisticated. I love good chips and salsa and this place had some of the best. I would come back here in heart beat. Well done Sr. Javier.
Be the first to ReplyThe good, the bad and the ugly
The Good: The fashion show is a hoot. The service is attentive. The food is good. The Bad; VERY trendy. VERY crowded. Too expensive for what you get. The Ugly: Way too loud. Parking is ridiculous.
Be the first to ReplyPaloma made our night!
We just had such a lovely night with my friend. First time in Newport Beach and it didn’t disappoint. Paloma gave us the best recommendations for food and cocktails. The setting was exactly what we were looking for, food and cocktails were fantastic and the service was outstanding. Thanks for a great night Paloma you are always welcome in Scotland!
Be the first to ReplyGorgeous location but mediocre food
Came here for lunch today. The restaurant is gorgeous. Every room was nicely decorated and had a slightly different vibe. As I walked through I kept picturing hosting my birthday dinner there. The room we got was on the darker side but it was kind of windy outside so we embraced the cozy room we had. Service was great. Very attentive. I wouldn't expect any less from an establishment such as this. Unfortunately when it came to the food, it was lackluster. Ceviche | Probably the best thing we ordered. Nicely flavored and seasoned. Perfectly "cooked" and tart. Was mostly shrimp, and this may sound odd but we actually wanted some more onions or tomatoes or herbs. Mole Poblano | The mole was a little salty and the chicken dry. Enchiladas de Cangrejo | Tasty but very decadent. Nothing mind blowing. Enchiladas, Chile Relleno, & Taco Combination | It's a hard taco but the shell was more tough and chewy than crispy. The enchiladas and Relleno were fine. Carnitas | The carnitas was cooked well and tasted good. The flower tortillas was a table favorite. We all agreed this was the most tasty dish of the table. Drinks were good. Both the Tamarindo and Guava Margarita were tasty.
Be the first to Replyfood was very good but seating and service horrible
The tables had tops with almost the same size metal base underneath...this made it IMPOSSIBLE to eat at the table unless you sat sideways, spread your legs to try to straddle the base OR just reached 2 feet to get to your plate...table and chairs looked great, but not meant for humans to sit at...food was good, and service was a bit marginal , maybe because of size of restaurant not as attentive as you might want
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Mexican Food!!
A great Mexican food experience for the entire family. My wife and our two 21+ kids absolutely loved this place. The authentic ambiance matched the food and drinks. I had the Taquito appetizers, the Chicken Enchilada + Beef Taco and the Churros!!! You have to have the Javier Margarita if you come. Also, our waiter Kevin gave us great attention!!! Overall, a great experience had by all!!
