My favorite spot to go for authentic Mexican food is definitely Javier's in La Jolla or Newport Beach. Both locations have great service, with vibes that are poppin, & definitely classy! Love everything about Javier's, I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for a high end Mexican spot.
Be the first to ReplyService wasn't good.
My friend and I got there and our server goes on his 30 minute break with no one to really cover so there was a long wait times, no refills and what should have been max an hour was much longer.

Javier's is the trendiest Mexican food place that I've been to in my entire life. I get Miami vibes from this place with its classy interior and people dressed up nicely for an evening out. They even have their own valet service specifically for this restaurant and not for the rest of the mall. I came for a work holiday party last year, and we had a corner area reserved for our group. We had staff members specifically working our group, us in and serving us nonstop sparkling rose wine throughout the night. I had their steak and lobster enchilada for my entree which was so good, but very pricey! Appetizers and dessert selections were very delicious. They were very accommodating with any dietary restrictions / allergies here. One of the downsides was that even though we were a private party, we had a corner of the restaurant for us which made it a little hard to hear each other across the dining table. Overall, it was a great place for a work gathering to celebrate the end of the year.
Be the first to ReplyOk ok I finally made it to Javier's.
Have heard many great things about this restaurant and it's been highly recommended by many people and at last I've made the trip up north a few miles to see what the deal is. Let's start with the entrance. Very grand and white yet the dim lighting made it feel very intimate. Had reservations at 6:30pm and the place was practically full on a Thursday. There is valet up front which is totally a plus but plenty of parking near the mall that is covered for 2 hours for no charge. The waiter was amazing. Very helpful and kind and made several recommendations to try. We shared an aguachile that was deliciously spicy yet enjoyable. Ordered a sangria that was ok. Nothing special but the food made up for the alcohol. The taste is genuinely authentic and makes me think of some of my cultures greatest dishes. Please enjoy the pictures I took. All dishes were amazing! I'd hands down recommend the tomahawk pork. The bathroom attendant was also very lovely and kind and overall I'd come back here over and over again. Thank you for the great experience and savory food.

First the good: incredible carne asada tacos with guacamole! I love their salsa! Great service! Now the not-so-good: First, no draft beers at all!!!!! Second, my wife ordered their $17 salad which was a small plate of lettuce, one skinny slice of red onion, one cherry tomato cut in half, and a teaspoon of tasteless salad dressing. What a rip!
Be the first to ReplyThe hostess was rude.
The manager was rude. My table was ok after I made a reservation a week ahead. It's extremely loud and difficult to talk. My food was fair. The waitress was good.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic as usual.
Really busy night. Lobster, crab and shrimp enchiladas were delicious. Chicken mole is a party in your mouth. The fried ice cream is out of this world!!
Be the first to ReplyWow, Javier's.
This is a spectacular place!!! We went on a Saturday night, the place was hoppin'. Loud and trendy music (with an amazing sound system!) and stunning interior design and structure are what immediately stand out. The bar area is nothing short of amazing, it truly is the centerpiece of the restaurant. The service was excellent! Our waters were refilled frequently, plates were cleared at appropriate times, waiters were attentive, helpful, and friendly. The food runners reorganize the food on the table well and all the food came out fresh and nicely paced. Now the food and drinks... wow! We tried both the Pepino and the Granada, I really liked the cucumber and lime of the Pepino. The drinks weren't too sweet which I enjoyed. The house salsa was yummy! The queso fundido was good, a bit too stringy for my taste but a fork separates it fine. Soft, fresh, and wrapped warm corn tortillas. The enchiladas were delightful, the tomatillo was yummy and so was the cheese. The meat was soooo tender and juicy, they did a really good job on cooking it to perfection. Bathrooms were tidy and fresh, they have an attendant like some nice places in Mexico. The only thing I would warn people about is the music was pretty loud, so this place is not very conducive for conversation.

We have recreated the carne asada salad at home many times since having it here! We did not realize the portions were so big, or we would have shared just the salad. The salad was that good . Margaritas were on point as well.

Everything was absolutely amazing! Had the best waiter and the service was just so great! My favorite location so far! The food was delicious, however, it did take a little long to come out! Nonetheless, the music and everything was great!
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely could have been better.
Let's start with the good:Ambiance and service. Ambiance is excellent. The decor and design is excellent. Even with all the open windows, it was not cold inside. The service was very friendly and attentive.Food:Where do we start? Queso fundido was lacking chorizo - it was all queso. And the flour tortillas that came with the dish was, no lie, equivalent to cold Mission tortillas. No fresh flour tortillas?! If not fresh, do better than Mission. Seriously, I was floored when I saw these tortillas in this establishment. This is certainly not what Javier had in mind when opening up a HIGH END restaurant. The entrees weren't any better: trio de enchiladas del mar, carne tampiquena, 2 orders of pollo asado. There were no kids menus so the kids got pollo asado. The enchiladas all tasted the same to me. There were different sauces and different protein but the same flavor throughout the dish. The taquito was the star of the carne tampiquena dish. That's not a good thing. The kids enjoyed their grilled chicken breast. The portion was perfect for a 6yo and 8yo. They served chips and salsa as you sit down. Our drinks took a while to get there. The unsweetened iced tea was fragrant and light. Guava margarita was very good. Bottled Mexican sodas were served instead of fountain drinks.I would not return for the food but I'd come back for drinks only.
Be the first to ReplyYou come here for the vibes and ambience and this place
You come here for the vibes and ambience and this place really delivers in both! It's a really stunning restaurant in UTC. I came by for dinner on a Friday night and it was packed. Definitely make a reservation online. They offer excellent chips and salsa. The salsa is really spicy! I had 2 amazing cocktails during my meals, the jalapeño margarita and an espresso martini. Both were so good! One of the best margaritas I've had in a while and the espresso martini was the same. For our food we started off with the queso fundido and I split the tablita with steak and carnitas. The queso was really good and the tablita was worth the $90! The steak was so tender and flavorful and they give you huge chunks of carnitas with the bone in. Service was good and attentive. This is probably the most expensive Mexican food I have ever had, I dropped over $100 a person but you're paying for the atmosphere.

Sooo tried this spot for a late night bite, ordered some drinks. My drink was not to my expectations, I asked it to be remade, and was told that the bar has strict policy's-and no drinks are to be remade. I said fine but bring me another drink made to my liking. So I sit with an unwanted drink and paid for it. Where on earth does a restaurant/bar have such policies about a cocktail? Only at this place I guess!!! I've bartending for years and know my way around a cocktail so I knew at first sip it was not the accurate ingredients. They put butters in a Moscow mule. So the food came it lacked flavor and I wasn't impressed. We were rushed out by staff to leave and frankly after spending $250 for a dining experience I won't be back to this place. Sorry Javier's you truly missed the prime opportunity to have me a customer for life along with my network of friends.

Wow I am amazed at the quality of service I received tonight by our waitress Emily she did amazing at recommendations on the menu the food was delicious I will be definitely returning back again !!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food and service.
We had the Chorizo dip and oh my I'm still dreaming about it.
Be the first to ReplySuper fancy restaurant.
I guess you could call it mexican, but it's not the kind of place you should go if you're craving mexican food. Damn expensive and full of people who look like they have just enough money to be concerned with presenting an image that tells people they have money. I got a salad with steak and it was basically the same salad they have at El Torito, but with much better steak. (Full disclosure: not an El Torito fan either) A couple dudes I went with got the crab and/or lobster enchiladas. They said they were very good, but again, what could you get for the $50 price tag somewhere else? A better plate of food is my answer. Credit where credit is due, the staff was very nice and the rope tapestry thing they got going on at the bar is pretty awesome. Chips, salsa, and guacamole were on point, but again, $16 guac, SMH. Anyway, if you're trying to score some chick who is into ambiance and name dropping restaurants more than she is into good food, this might be your place.
Be the first to ReplyAhhhhh, Javier's, where the beautiful people go to be seen
Ahhhhh, Javier's, where the beautiful people go to be seen and heard & directly across the street is Red O Mexican Restaurant. Both very large and cater to the behemoth banks in the area, plus The Westfield Mall and UCSD locations. No matter, bring a load of cash, your Black American Express card or any card you can load up on.This restaurant is beautiful, I had no idea! I am so glad we had the opportunity to go here, have drinks and share a dinner. After My friend and I had eaten a basket of chips and salsa (very good salsa) we shared the beef fajitas. It was presented beautifully, and not overloaded with food. Pretty tasty!! I would like to go back and try other dishes on the menu. By the way, we sat at the bar, and service was good!

Never order fijitas there, they give you cold veggies on a plate... fijitas are suppose to be on a hot skillet smelling great... I won't go back based upon this
Be the first to ReplyGreat great quality food, fast pace restaurant.
It gets super busy, so book your reservation. 4 stars just because the servers sometimes can just rush too much.
Be the first to ReplyIt's loud that's the real only downside.
I'd say the food is good, it's not to die for, and the price point in respect to the potion size was a bit unsatisfactory but nonetheless enjoyable. The drinks, delish. Guava Marg, delish, Espresso Martini, delish, Modelo, smooth.
Be the first to ReplyNice place to sit and relax with some high end Mexican food
Nice place to sit and relax with some high end Mexican food and drinks in Westfield UTC Ambiance is nice too
Be the first to ReplyLet's talk chips and salsa.
They have the best on the planet. Its so good!! I could live on the chips and salsa and margaritas alone. For an entree I got the carnitas which was pretty good. Not the best in the world. But good. The three stars are because the lhostess was beyond rude. She acted as though it was the last place in the world she wanted to be. She didn't seat us right away because everyone in our party wasn't present. However when my friend arrived with a cast on her foot...the hostess could not have cared less. In other words she stood there in pain for awhile. :-( I don't think I will be back to Javier's. Customer service means everything to me.
Be the first to ReplyJavier's why does this keep happening? Yesterday Sunday 8/7
Javier's why does this keep happening? Yesterday Sunday 8/7 we ordered two meals to-go and I found this black melted plastic within my crab enchilada. For me, it's now 50% of the time I get food from here there is something gross hiding in the enchilada. Makes my stomach turn. Upside to my experience was the friendly host Tessa. Great phone etiquette and professional. However, the last time I picked up food a different hostess looked at me and immediately said "Din Tai Fung is THAT way." Wasn't in a nice helpful tone with room for interpretation. Just overall racist. Completely caught me beyond off guard.
Be the first to ReplyIt was ok.
A little pricey. Just really busy. Honestly would probably rather just go somewhere a little further out of the way to get some good Mexican food so as to avoid the crowds. We had kids with us too which didn't help. It's not a very kid tolerant place, or at least probably wasn't the best atmosphere. It's very pretty though inside. Overall I would have just expected better service.
