We save this restaurant for VERY special occasions mainly because it IS quite expensive! This one was my birthday. First, let's get THIS out there...there IS value in an experience like ours. Half-way through I told my husband I think we would still have enjoyed this meal at twice the price (not to give J-G any ideas...there's only S000 much even we can afford)! The cucumber-mint Hendrick's gin martini was as refreshing as an early evening breeze wafting through the BVI without the airfare and beachfront accommodations. The preferred of the amuse bouches was the scallop sushi presented on crispy rice...the layers of flavor and their time-released impact was genius and other worldly. We ordered the six-course omnivore menu and couldn't have ingested more food than that quite frankly. I won't say each course was "better" than the previous. ALL the courses were outstanding and some were "standout". In my experience, there is no dish that cannot be enhanced with morel mushrooms. When I fall asleep at night I dream of a morel menu meal presenting the fungi in various delicious formats with the "main" being nothing more than sautéed morels in butter, garlic and thyme or chervil...hold the salt & hold the pepper. J-G's asparagus with morels drenched & draped in sauce hollandaise was a delight to remember this special day for me. The black sea bass with ramp puree was insanely perfect. Even though the lamb took a L-0-0-0-ng time to arrive allowing a small amount of fret to slip into the meal, when it DID strut on stage it did so with aplomb. It was daring and rustic in a way but also delicate. Our dessert choice was made for us so if I have a small issue it's that I wish I could have chosen from a selection including cheeses (especially because their bread is among the best) and yet... it was quite good if VERY sweet. One last wine note - - we almost didn't even think of actually ordering our primary choice of wine which was a 2020 muscadet from, of course, the Loire Valley. With my eyes down in consultation with the sommelier my choice became known and he sang it's praises as if to say, "Sir, with your meal this evening there is NO better choice!" Of course, there certainly were other, better bottles/vintages but he let me have my way and didn't compromise his wine knowledge integrity. At $44. it was the cheapest bottle on their extensive menu. We could have paid a lot more but so very glad we didn't because it's exactly the wine we wanted to sip through our meal.
