Jeffrey's Austin Reviews from The Last Year
💯
I recently had the pleasure of dining at a restaurant that truly knows how to take care of their customers.
💯
Not only did they get every order right, but they also made sure that we didn't have to wait any longer than necessary.
Awesome atmosphere
I was blown away. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with an awesome atmosphere and exquisite interiors that set the perfect tone for the evening. The attention to detail in the decor and ambiance was truly impressive.
Posh fine dining since 1975
Yes, Virginia, you can find something besides Texas-style barbecue restaurants in Austin. For fine dining and an upscale cuisine of dry-aged prime beef and French American classics, reserve a table in one of the three distinct dining rooms at Jeffrey's, a legendary culinary icon since 1975. Located at 1204 West Lynn Street, west of downtown Austin, in the Clarksville neighborhood, it offers a posh setting with complementary valet parking and a lively bar that features ice-cold martinis. Open from 4:30 to 11 daily, Jeffrey's is the epitome of fine dining in the Old West. For starters, my wife and I had truffled deviled eggs, lobster bisque, Nantucket Bay scallops and Little Gem Caesar Salad with white anchovy, parmigiano reggiano and sourdough bread crumbs. For an entree, my wife chose Dover Sole with scallop mousseline, leeks, sorrel caper leaves, meyer lemon and dulce butter sauce with creamed spinach gratin. I flipped coin. Which steak do I prefer? I finally settled on a 12-ounce Nieman Ranch USDA prime New York strip with the house's steak sauce, Yukon Gold pommes puree and seared mushrooms with garlic and white wine. For dessert, we shared a chocolate souffle with rose caramel and coffee ice cream and a buttermilk creme caramel with strawberries, lemon cotton cake and pink peppercorns. Proof that there is always room for a first-class steakhouse, no matter where you are in this world.
Great service.
Very lively ambiance although the tables are a bit close together. Food:Truffle deviled eggs - delicious Foie gras candy bites - ok; couldn't taste much of the foie gras8oz steak - very goodLamb chops - a little gamey but very goodDulce de leche Soufflé - a bit too sweet for me.
First time at Jeffrey's, and I'm very impressed.
From the minute you walk in the door you know you are in a fine dining establishment. Food was amazing. One of the best steaks I've ever had. Very extensive wine list. Service was also excellent. Easily in my top 3 of all restaurants in Austin.
Decided to finally give Jeffrey's a visit.
Truffled Deviled eggs: fine, think the truffle does kind of over power the egg but still solid.King crab avocado toast: I liked the crab and avocado mixture, didn't like the toast as it was really hard. Lobster bisque: needed salt, wasn't heavy but felt it lacked seasoning. Steak fries: most forgettable item we ordered. Brussel sprouts- amazing, very good flavor and liked the sauce underneath. Popovers with Ricotta- the best thing we ate during our visit. The bread was soft and the ricotta was sweet but accompanied the popover so well. Bone in Dry Aged Ribeye: good but really fatty and super expensive for what it was. Overall, I definitely don't think you get your money's worth as any big chain steakhouse like Perry's or Flemings will give you just as good of a meal for probably half of what I paid here. Nothing was bad by any means but these prices are high and when I remember the bread and brussel sprouts more than the steak that's an issue for me. The seating can also be hit or miss as one side of the restaurant is super loud and was fortunate we didn't get placed there. Don't want to forget about the service. The service was outstanding, took care of us the entire night. Decent experience but a solid one and done for me.
Very elegant upscale restaurant in a residential
Very elegant upscale restaurant in a residential neighborhood in Austin. Sophisticated and lively vibe. Elegant trendy crowd. Food exceeded expectations. I ordered the surf and turf. It was veal and lobster. I ordered dessert. The barmaid steered me toward the chocolate dessert which was very rich. I wish I ordered differently because it was too filling after the rich entree. Good wine by the glass. Expensive.
Great visit, great food, incredible service
Very good food and incredible service. Devils eggs, Carpaccio, Caesar Salad, Beef Short Rob, Brussels sprouts, Yukon potatoes, and mushrooms - all recommended by the waiter, all great. Wine list is 55 pages of the top of the line but expensive.
Food: everything was delicious.
Overall serving sizes were ample for an upscale restaurant. We both left stuffed!! Service: service was amazing. We came to Jeffrey's to celebrate our anniversary and everyone from the host to our server made a point of congratulating us. They had a card at the table and complimentary champagne. There were 2 servers that were really on top of it and treated us well. Ambiance: it's what you'd expect from a fine restaurant. Tables were spaced so you didn't feel on top of each other. Pretty, fresh flowers arrangements everywhere.

Their 25% off bar menu on Mondays was what drew me in! I realize the deal used to be sweeter at 50% off but it is what it is. This deal is for seats booked for their bar/lounge area and calling in seems to be the only way to book this area. I can see myself returning over and over again for this!My husband and I booked for our anniversary and had superb experience. The lounge, despite being at first visibly cramped and dimly lit, is intimate and cozy once seated. Our waitress brought us complimentary mocktails (per our preference) to celebrate. We ordered the deviled eggs, fried oysters, hamachi, bar steak, wagyu, souffle, dessert. We requested popovers as well, which they did not charge for. Our tab came out to be $140 before tip which I thought was on par for the incredible food and service, attention to detail, and atmosphere. Parking: There's plenty of parking within walking distance in the surrounding neighborhoods. Complimentary (with tip) valet is available as well. I've also had the pleasure of attending their New Year's day brunch BUFFET. For $175, we were treated to all you can eat shucked oysters, giant shrimp, rock crab claws, their famous truffled deviled eggs, prime rib carving station, and lots of other classic goodies. Notable food mentions:Dulche de leche souffle, $16: It ate like a soup, with sparse bits of structure where it was cooked more. Our waitress kindly offered to have another one baked to our liking, but we declined as the flavor was good and the batter was cooked. I wouldn't get this again though. Bar steak, reg $42: Soft and flavorful! One of my favorite steaks ever. Served with pomme puree and fresh greens.Crispy fried oysters, reg price $23: 5 fried oysters on a bed of creamy leeks, dressed with an apple cider sauce. So balanced and tasty.

Went for a birthday celebration, and although the food was very well made, It would have been nice if some kind of complimantry desert/coffee was offered, especially considering the high price point of the meal. None was offered but a small note saying "happy birthday".
First time eating here.
Made a reservation on a Thursday 3 hours before we decided to eat here. If you've a chance to make a reservation, I highly recommend it. Reservation was at 8:30p. Seated us within 6 mins. Wrote a nice card with "Congratulations" on it. (Celebrated being pregnant with our 3rd child) Table next to us were celebrating a birthday. Restaurant gave them one dessert on the house (restaurant chose the dessert). Left side of restaurant is noisier than right side of restaurant. Was happy to be placed on the right side where I could have a quiet conversation with my husband that we don't always get to have with our kids being around. Attentive service by all staff. They give you popovers (on the house) -- warm, soft, delicious bread. My sister told me about the popovers... about 15 mins after being seated I asked about them and server said they take about 20 mins.. she brought them out a minute later and then the table next to us received theirs quickly after they placed their order... hmmm.Highlights: popovers, Brussels sprouts, lobster (that came with the veal), short rib was cooked very well although I'm not sure what the rolled bread (not crispy/crunchy) filled with I think cheese covered in a white sauce was doing on the plate... it didn't really add anything to the short rib; definitely a filler. Caesar salad was good, but they could go lighter on the dressing. Deviled eggs were good. Husband can eat half a dz of them. I was fine with just one. Creamy with salt and a truffle on top. Mocktail with ginger syrup warmed the tummy and perfect amount of sweet. Delicious.Date night for two with drinks, apps, entrees and two sides came out to $240; with tip, $300. We would come again.
Look, I know that part of the problem is me.
I'm allergic to shellfish; I don't eat raw fish, veal, caviar, or escargot. I don't like mushrooms or truffles or duck, and I'm not a huge red meat fan. I don't care for pork restaurant dishes. I do eat lots of varied vegetables and grains, salads, and soups, and I love many fish preparations. So, that being said, I take responsibility for my pickiness, some of it health-related, some strictly personal preference. On the other hand, my husband loves red meat, and that's why we ended up celebrating his birthday at Jeffrey's the other night. A number of years ago we had eaten there, where he had "the best steak he had ever tasted." He was particularly enthusiastic about the bark, as well as the evenness of the interior of the steak. As we recall, this meal happened before Jeffrey's added Wagyu beef to the menu. So, I made reservations well in advance for his birthday and asked for a quiet romantic table (knowing the restaurant's limitations in that regard -- it's a pretty small place). We ordered the Truffled Deviled Eggs as an hors d'oeuvre. (I gave my husband my slice of the truffle.) It was fine. I could ignore the truffle flavor -- it was at least not as bad as the flavor of "truffle oil" -- ick. Note that you receive one egg (two halves). $14. Let's move on.The husband went in pretty much knowing he would order the ribeye -- the regular one, not the Wagyu. We told our server that I was allergic to shellfish (I carry an Epi-pen, to be on the safe side), and asked if the two fish preparations could be made without shellfish, or with shellfish on the side. She confirmed they could. One option was the Gulf Snapper en Papillote (lump crab, baby turnips, chanterelle mushrooms,Thai basil & lemongrass-infused carrot broth). The other option was a Sole dish with scallop mousseline, leeks and I forget what else. I decided to go with the snapper. The presentation is dramatic -- an opened puffy layer of parchment that encases the colorful dish. And the fish was cooked well (though it is quite wet since it has basically steamed, I suppose) and tasted fresh. And for the first few bites, I found it to be complex in flavor. But over time, the carrot broth (and whatever vegetable was under the fish -- fennel, perhaps?) and its ensuing sweetness just overpowered everything else. (I gave the mushrooms to my husband -- he did not like the sweetness that permeated them.) The turnips were a little crunchy. So, I suppose I should have ordered the filet, or just the Caesar salad (ugh, had an anchovy) and the crispy Brussels sprouts. Now, on to the ribeye. It had the epic bark again. But the trouble was in the quality of the meat itself, or the cut of the meat. Lots of fat, lots of gristle, and he couldn't see where the fat was on the meat to enable him to remove it. Yuck.Popovers and ricotta spread before dinner were good. Cocktails (Airmail and Piggybank) were good.Creamed spinach gratin was good, though the proportions seemed a little off -- it was INTENSELY green, but the topping was so crunchy and yummy. We looked at the dessert menu but did not want a souffle. There were only 3 other desserts, I believe, and a cheese plate. None of those really appealed to us, so we just ordered two B&Bs. They did bring us two small slices of an ice cream cake with sprinkles, which was a sweet touch. And of course, the mignardises after dinner are always a delight. The other thing about the restaurant: the dining room where we were seated (also where we were seated before) is the dining room that looks out onto West Lynn. We had probably the best table in the room -- a small round table nearest the window. It was certainly the quietest table since the others are arranged in a line next to each other. But there is something very stark and disquieting and sterile about the ambiance. One feels as if one is on display to the other diners because of the arrangement of the tables. We noticed when walking through the restaurant that the other dining rooms have nooks and twists and turns that afforded a more nuanced and convivial atmosphere. But all in all, sometimes it is best, it seems, to let great memories remain exactly that, rather than spoil them with present reality. It's not bad -- it's just not what it was.
Been here twice now with different experiences with one
Been here twice now with different experiences with one thing in common -- the meal was one of the best I've had in Austin. Any steak on the menu might be the best steak you've ever had. There was not one item we ordered that was less than a 4/5. It's also a beautiful, dimly lit, romantic interior that combines both older fine dining vibes with modern look.Of our two visits, the only complaint we had the second time, our server wasn't great. He was often non attentive and didn't really engage with us. But since everything else was amazing, I'll look past that especially since our first time, the server was awesome.
Don't get the hype
Service was fine. Food was disappointing. We ended up boxing our meals and skipping dessert. First and last time there. They seem to be resting on their laurels. The steak for 2 was a joke price wise for the quality of meat.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Appointment
I was waiting on the transfer for name but it hasn’t happened yet and my reservation is tonight , will it be an issue that is hasn’t changed into my name yet
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Just got scammed!
Thats unfortunate but you can always get your money back if they cancel the reservation.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome
to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
