Coming for an exhibition from Europe to New York I wanted to indulge in some movie setting good old fashion New York fare.Unfortunately I never got toorder anything since the guy at the entrance was the rudest person I ever encountered anywhere I have ever been....Shame on you!
You wait 2 years to come back to eat somewhere in New York City only to be made to feel like a alien. If you don't have a vaccine card they stick you outside in the freezing cold when that mandate is over with! They're keeping the vaccination mandate. Horrible for business and NY not progressive. Waste of time & GAS driving here to be turned down! You lost a loyal customer! Not even getting the take out
I absolutely love this place, although its very hard to get a reservation/seating here. The burgers are delicious, as well as the french fries. Its even good for picky eater. You could order a plain cheese burger with some french fries, and with out a doubt, your kid will love it. Just make sure to cut the burger in half if you get that exact order, (mainly for the picky eaters) since the burgers are huge. But dont worry, theres also a thin turkey burger which my mom normally gets when we go out together. Overall, I highly reccomend if you dont mind waiting a little!Side note: It is very VERY hard to get a table after around 5:30 pm. So, that leads to an early dinner.
Truly the secret lies in the beef patty blend and cooked to a perfect medium. Caramelized/ grilled onions is a must. Cottage fries are pricey, but worth the try and complement your burger nicely. The chili must so delicious, super flavorful and a good old school recipe. Will be back for the burgers. Old NY environment and decorations. Most likely there will be a wait.
This is a no-frills, cash-only restaurant that takes no reservations. In any place like this, you know the food *has* to be amazing. My friends and I came here after doing some shopping in the UES around 7pm on a Saturday. We waited for about 30 minutes for a table. They don't take phone numbers for their waitlist, so be sure to stay around the area in case you miss your slot. I got the cheeseburger while my friends got the bacon cheeseburger. The burger was cooked to my preferences. One thing to know is the only toppings the burger includes is pickles and onions-- make sure to explicitly ask for tomatoes and lettuce if you want it! As others have mentioned, the burger patty is quite thick but smaller than the bun so it was a little hard to assemble the burger. Once you get past that, the burger is delightful and a great cure for a long day. The fries are different, but they're very crispy. They're cut into folded pieces so the extra surface area gives you more crunch. Would recommend! Overall: this is not the spot if you're looking for fine dining, but if you're looking for a quick and delicious burger then this is a great choice.
I happened to walk past with my two daughters last week and told them it was (or used to be really good). Well, that was not the case. The grilled cheese or whatever that sandwich was, was awful. The salad was embarrasing. One sliver of red pepper, 2 slices of cucumber. I think one lettuce leaf that was torn into small pieces. My chili was okay but the unmelted chunks of american cheese was unappetizing, it wasn't hot, the burger was small and disappointing. We walked away wishing we'd gone almost anywhere else.
We used to come all the time prior to Covid. We Just came back for the first time since and had by far the worst dining experience we have ever had. A classic New York establishment that is famous for its burger, we ordered a medium Burger that when dropped at our table looked more like a hockey puck and was delivered by someone other than our waitress. We waited patiently for her to come and ask us how our meal was, but she never returned. After 30 minutes we flagged down a bus boy who said he would replace the burger. Another 10 minutes went by and we were brought back a half a burger on a full bun. Quite the message. We again flagged down the bus boy as our waitress was nowhere to be seen, and asked to speak to the manager. He said there was no manager, but the hostess walked over to say he was sorry. Another 15 minutes and our waitress walked over with the full bill, seemingly unaware of our dining experience. We informed her about the burger, and she was kind enough to remove it from the bill. As someone who worked in hospitality for a decade, I am beyond shocked and disappointed in this experience and will never be returning.
We stumbled across this place looking for some good food after a long days travelling. I would 100% recommend. The burger was honestly one of the best I’ve had, we had a gorgeous little cubby to ourselves outside and the service was so friendly, genuine and helpful. Will be back again when in New York next!
