I had a lovely vacation in Miami.
Jia was a part of what made this an amazing vacation!I was searching for last minute dinner options and was able to get a reservation on a Thursday evening. The vibe and ambiance of this place is perfect for date night or a place for drinks. The service was also on point. Our server was super attentive, especially making sure our glasses were full with the bottle of delicious sake we ordered. Now on to the food. The peking duck is a MUST. The skin is nice and crispy and the duck is juicy and delicious. I like that it came with the authentic flour wrapper rather than the bao buns that we are used to in the US. I also like the beets and golden beets that it came with on the side which kept the dish nice and light. This dish was the star of the show and definitely satisfied my Chinese food craving. I also ordered the braised sichuan eggplant. This this was tasty and delicious. However, I think it was missing some steps in the preparation such as flash frying the eggplant before stir-frying as well as added some corn starch slurry to thicken up the sauce so it wraps around and glazes the eggplants better. There is a good selection of cocktails, wines, and sake. We got a nigori sake which paired well with our dishes. Our server also brought over a shot of Chinese wine (baiju) at the end which sealed the deal!
Be the first to ReplyA bit too salty but good environment and service.
A good place after a long day.Pretty authentic Chinese food and above-average select cocktail.

Jia upset me because I really wanted to love it or at least like it but - wow was it disappointing. The restaurant is inviting with a friendly staff and a welcoming vibe. Prices are not bad, especially when compared to their neighboring restaurants.Jia also has a broad menu with a good Dim Sum selection of dumplings and that's what brought me in. It's also what made me leave. The restaurant is nicely designed but not over the top flashy like other Miami Beach Asian or Asian-fusion restaurants and because of that I thought the focus would not be the scene or vibe but just the food. My Dim Sum was not fresh, and the dough was all wrong. Dumplings need to be made when ordered, but I think these were pre-made and perhaps - very pre-made. The shrimp in the Shrimp Shui Mei were not good, nor were the vegetables, and the same goes for the short ribs.Jia has a large menu so perhaps Dumplings aren't their thing - and maybe their other Asian offerings are the way to go. I did notice a recurring reviewer criticism of the Dim Sum so perhaps we just ordered the wrong items.

This is not a Chinese restaurant, I bet you the chef is not even from Asia. It's a gimmicky place. The noodles tasted like that of a 2$ ramen noodle you buy from a 7/11 store. We ordered a chicken in a clay. We got a boiled chicken in a red watery soupy sauce, that tasted like nothing. The amount of salt they put in their dishes is not normal. Everything tasted so so so extremely salty. We kept on drinking water to dilute the salt. My plan is to contact the health department and file a complaint. They have to send someone to measure the amount of salt in the food, and give them a fine. Super waste of time. Do not go there...PLEASE..

The food there is super good and I am in love with their panda cups! Our waiter was super funny and loved him! Gave the super positive vibes the whole time! Definitely recommend this place!

Absolutely phenomenal place in south beach! Fantastic service and some of the best dim sum in the state. We were in Miami for the food network's wine and food festival....and still ended up here twice!

If you're browsing Yelp thinking "should I go to Jia" - the answer is yes. Make a reservation now. 1. Service- probably the best I've had in like a year. 2. The food- order the noodles and some different kinds of dumplings. All dumplings are made in house. Do you need any more of a reason to try them? Delicious. 3 The vibe- because everything in Miami is about the vibe. Red lighting makes dinner feel more intimate. 4. The drinks- Never do all of my friends agree that the drinks are good- except at Jia
Be the first to ReplyWOW! What an experience I had at Jia.
Located in south beach, south of fifth. We walked in and we're astonished at the decor of the restaurant. We also noticed the disco ball drink the table was having! It was such a vibe. We sat down at our tables tucked away in a cozy corner and were immediately welcomed with a shot of something I can't remember.... Sorry! It was such a cute gesture. The servers are dressed to match the ambiance of the restaurant. We started off with some dumplings and martinis. The dumplings are all made in house - so naturally we ordered 3 different kinds. Prawn, mushroom and shrimp. The mushroom were my favorite as they tasted so fresh and the dumplings was like a warm pillow in my mouth. They were all so amazing I would go back and have a dumpling tasting! As for the main courses, we ordered the pecking duck, black garlic cod, mushrooms, eggplant, noodles, truffle fried rice and the cucumbers. The pecking duck was the favorite of the table. The truffle fried rice is similar to risotto and very truffle-y so beware if you don't like that (idk why you wouldn't cause I'm a truffle addict). The cod came out a little cold, It was still good but it would've been better served hot. As for the eggplant and mushrooms - they were very tasty. I wish I could make vegetables taste like that at home! I would totally go back to Jia. It's a new upcoming restaurant and I did Shazam the entire playlist!
Be the first to ReplyThe service is very nice and environment is excellent.
But the food is terrible, nothing but salty. I would not say it is the Chinese style food.
Be the first to ReplyHonestly the food and ambiance was good.
Our waiter Noah was great. However we were pretty furious that we made an 830 reservation and they did not seat us for an hour. They overbooked themselves and just made many people wait at the bar for their table. When approaching them after 30 minutes, then 40, then finally got pissed at 50 minutes they said "some people won't finish paying their bill and leave, what can we do?" Like what? That is not our problem to figure out for you. Why do you even have reservations available? Chinese New Year and all... still should have planned better.
Be the first to ReplyA few out of the park hits, a few not so great.
The atmosphere is hip and the total bill comes out quite pricy if you're experimenting like we were, so choose wisely.I'm between a 3 and 4 but landed on 4 because It seems like they're still working out their menu items seeing the pictures change, so in the end I'd still go again- looking forward to seeing what comes out!First order of business - if you care, the best pronunciation of the name is Ja, with a hard J. (Actually closer to jya in one short syllable) Loves:- the cod is perfectly cooked and the black garlic is stellar- the veggie sides, Gailan and mushrooms were great- sofi martini is so delicate and refreshing! (All the cocktails we tried were balanced and delicious really) ok: The sticky rice is very truffle heavy, if that's your speed, and you can never go wrong with pork belly. In my skip list : I was not a fan of the short rib dumplings, the profile was too sweet and had lumpy tough bits in it, and the lobster was tough and rubbery, though the veggies that came with it were delicious. The place was rather quiet when we went and it seemed like they were also figuring out the service, training new folks, so hopefully as they get all the kinks worked out, it'll keep getting better!

I was very excited that a new, what I thought would be, high end Chinese restaurant opened on the beach. We ordered it take out. Unfortunately we were disappointed. I write this note so you can understand our reasons why.We began our meal with the Pork Bao and various types of dim sum. The short rib dim sum was raw, and the sui mai was undercooked. After taking two bites and realizing this, we threw it out. The northern shrimp dumplings were too salty. The normal shrimp dumplings were decent as were the mushroom dumpling and egg rolls. We threw out over 1/2 the pork bao as we could not muscle through the rest. We then ordered glass noodles with crab. It was not made with glass noodles, we each had one bite and threw it in the garbage. The ribs were too salty and otherwise had no flavor. The eggplant was decent. We ate the Truffle rice which was far more like a risotto and also too salty. We will not go back unless we hear from others that the restaurant has improved immensely. It is a shame because it would be nice to have another good Chinese restaurant on the beach besides Hakkasan.
Be the first to ReplyI feel like I'm stroking out reading these reviews.
I ordered Jia via takeout, which is the worst way to experience a restaurant. With that being said...it's really really good! Obnoxiously so. With truffle gold leave gelatinous rice you want to hate this place but you can't. It appears douchey but really it's good cooking with its pulse on the culture. I thought the food was spot on, not 5 stars, but definitely not 2.
Be the first to ReplyWhere to begin? The food is salty.
The dim sums tasted like previously frozen, the dough is so think and mushy. The sauces that come with it were pure salt.My negroni cocktail tasted watered down. The presentation is weak, but whatever, give me a good tasting food! How come this Chinese restaurant has such weak choice of noodles ?! Noodles that looked like spaghetti... Waiters are nice and quite attentive but the service is sloow . Waited for cod 2 cocktails long! Oh, the Paloma cocktail is decent but tasted like a fresh spicy grapefruit juice - no mezcal. The tables by the toilet must go. No one wants to sit there! Every couple they put at that table wanted to switch right away. Oh, the toilet.. it is like walking into a club toilet- sticky floor, used paper on the floor, so dark inside and the huge trash can in the middle steals the show. The decor.. they tried.
