A bit deflated
Having heard wonderful things about teh restaurant we booked for lunch It was vegetraian menu which caught us by surprise The menu looked interesting though the East African specialisms seemed to be missing. many items are run of the mill in Mediterranean and fusion restuarants We started with cocktails - which were good A dish of pickled vegetables was acidy and uninterseting The chickpea chips are now a pub regular only saved from boringness with a nice dip The beetroot handvo was dense and underspiced. The soy keema bun was OK The main courses were better - the crispy aubergine Sichuan caramel was really enjoyable. The butternut squash moilee was good The accompanying green bean and cashewnut thoran was overpowered by lemon juice We asked for beers which were not on the menu and we have no idea what brand we were served as the beer was served up pre-paured For pudding we had banana cake with a little pot of Ovaltine kulfi, bringing about memories of childhood pre-bedtime drinks. We alos had a pineapple and limeleaf cake which was OK Overall the food was not that impressive. Not sure I would return

I have the cookbook which is excellent. So I was interested in visiting. I avoided January as it was a vegetarian month. So I eventually got there in March. Had a lunch which to my surprise was vegetarian. That’s all well and good. I should have checked. The lunch menu is £28 which I think is quite substantial, unlike the meal. Beetroot marinated in soy on whipped feta as a starter. This was nice. The main was basically a small pot of feta and greens with Kataifi pastry. It was in my opinion another starter. And the kataifi was very dry. Not a great experience and wish I had gone in the evening for the proper menu. Probably won’t rush back as there is a lot of variety in london. The staff were great though.

Took my partner for a special meal and it was rubbish. Service was good, food was just average at best. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Be the first to ReplySomething a bit different but could have been better!
We went for breakfast which is probably quite different to if you visit for lunch. This place is Something a bit different and the food quality was high. The menu was very limited - only 3 options for breakfast. The sweetcorn pancakes were easily the best. I have to say I also think the portions are too small to warrant £18.50. Excellent Bloody Mary. Probably wouldn’t go again for breakfast but would try for lunch or dinner next time.

The ambiance was relaxed , the staff were excellent and the food sublime. Had a variety of dishes and the best aubergine we have every had .
Be the first to ReplyNice Atmosphere.. Food Very So-So
I was more than a little intrigued to see how this place would work out. It's in such a pretty location and the atmosphere is really lovely - you can feel it the moment you step in. Un-pretentious and yet flair in decor; a white palette with pops of colour that reflect the regions they bring into their menu; India, Africa. It is really lovely. Everyone seems happy to be out in this restaurant and their is a feeling of "bon viveur" which is always nice to see. The menu isn't big, but it is VERY expensive - which is fine we're not strangers to high price tags we live in London and like eating out. The problem is, it didn't feel worth it. We had various dishes on the table - my husband had a chicken curry which although quite "nice" we all agreed, it was shy of well judged seasoning. For what was ostensibly a slow cooked leg in a sauce that was under-seasoned - £26 seemed excessive. My macaroni cheese with goachang and kimchi was also sadly under-whelming. Considering the ingredients high-lighted, it was anything but exciting. It was also served so rustically in a a bowl in which it had been baked I felt I could have been at home - and yet I was paying £24. It's my feeling that this place has a bit of an identity crisis - drawing on many different culinary tastes from around the world but not actually executing any of them very well. The under-seasoning point also seemed to be a common theme throughout all of our dishes. So, a bit of a miss for me I'm afraid. So many great options in London that deliver exciting food and expertise in the kitchen. This isn't one of them. If you're not so bothered about hitting those high foodie notes, have deep pockets and just want a bit of atmosphere go ahead...

We stumbled across Jikoni and although the restaurant was busy front of house were so accommodating . The food was amazing . We loved the celeriac and omg the banana cake ! Something of a delightful tour of cuisines from North Africa through the Levant onto South Asia. The chef has a great grip on spices and ingredients, and the originality to create new and seemingly unlikely combinations that surprised and delighted us. Unpretentious, warm service and ambiance. Will definitely return. Two starters, two mains, one desert, two cocktails and 500 ml carafe of rose was £171 (include. 12,5% service charge); not cheap but fair.

Amazing service. Amazing food. Lovely ambiance. Would definitely recommend although very pricy. The desserts are a must have..
Be the first to ReplyMenu too pretentious
It was only halfway thru the meal that I realised this was trying to be a hybrid fine- dining and Indian restaurant. The flavours were far too subtle and the meals were a bit pretentious. The staff were excellent but for a much less expensive Indian experience just go to a regular curry house.

What a great meal. Delicate, well balanced and so flavourful. We left full and well satisfied! The service was excellent and a beautiful , cozy room. I travel well and this was one of my all time top meals.

Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant - now one of my favourites
What a fabulous place. I arrived quite early and was seated at the bar and got to enjoy one the Jikoni's excellent cocktails - perfect start. Really great selection of food with too many choices. Wine list was full and varied and priced at an affordable level. All the food we selected was full of great flavours and so well presented. Decent portions too. Service was absolutely top notch and even though we were last to leave we never felt rushed. I will definitely be back because there is so much more to try.
Be the first to ReplyInnovative fusions of flavours from the Mediterranean to the East with lovely dishes to share
The ambiance is cosy but with plenty of space , with homely decor that’s bright and welcoming . Food is innovative and tasty with ample portions to share and a feast for your eyes . Snacks like the prawn toast scotch egg are good to start and a beetroot and burata added spices for a beautifully presented and tasting starter that 4 of us shared with grilled broccoli and feta with spices . Just s as couple of some very good veggie choices The curried fish had a rich coconut sauce and crispy aubergines had more of s spicy Asian / Korean twist . This is well flavoured food with interesting textures decently priced especially for . Overall this was a very good Sunday lunch , we’ll be back for the dinner menu

Be the first to ReplyA Very Special Restaurant
London has far more than its fair share of excellent restaurants to choose from. Very few though have that extra ingredient which makes them stand out in the crowd. Jikoni has everything going for it, together with that BUZZ which diners experience when a restaurant is not like any other they have been to.
The fusion style works so well, delivering exceptionally tasty dishes, with combinations of ingredients you will never have tried before. Apart from the wonderful food, every member of staff provides a warm and attentive service. They are all fully knowledgeable about how each dish is put together, plus which wines etc. to pair with the food..
This is a very relaxed and informal restaurant. I took a minute to sit back and observe the other diners. There was a real mix of ages, cultures and wealth. It is truly a restaurant, that provides affordable quality dining, for everyone. Can't wait to return.
Truly a delightful restaurant 😍
We almost missed dining at Jikoni… and I am so glad we didn’t 😊we had an absolutely wonderful Sunday lunch at Jikoni. The food and drinks were superb, every thing we ordered was an explosion of flavor without being overwhelming. The service and hospitality was beyond good… thanks to Neil and the gang, who consistently did everything to make our lunch a flawless experience. We loved our chickpea fries and crispy okra, and the lobster moilee was so delish😍… but what a fine finish with the banana cake! Thank you and we can not wait to be back again, for dinner next time 😊

We absolutely loved this restaurant. From the food, drink, ambiance, service and background music. I wouldn’t hesitate to come back. Everything was perfection. A really special night, thank you!
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best meals I’ve had in a long time
We went here for brunch and got the prawn toast scotch egg, okra fries, Kuku paka, lobster moilee and the banana cake to finish. Everything was genuinely amazing, we were amazed one dish after another. The service was also outstanding, everyone was so friendly and the decor in the restaurant is very pretty. I will definitely be back for dinner soon. Would 100% recommend this to anyone!!
Be the first to ReplyFabulous dining experience
The food was superb especially the lobster moilee (definitely have whole option) with delicately flavoured lemon rice and the crispy aubergine with robust garlic flavoured rice to match the aubergine. Service was friendly and very informative. Was surprised the restaurant had been there for 5 years and we hadn't heard of it until today. Definitely return especially to try the Tasting Menu
