Take-out food was overly desert-type sweet.
This was our first take-out from the UWS Jin Fong since the start of the pandemic. ((We live on the UWS within walking distance. We ate at the Chinatown one on numerous occasions over the years when we were living in the Village and could walk to Jing Fong.) Three of the dishes we ordered today were so sweet as to be unpalatable: Peking Pork Chops; Grand Marnier Shrimp; BBQ Roast Pork Buns. I mean CANDY-SWEET, such as we never ate in a Chinese restaurant. I understand that some Chinese restaurants tend to serve everything in a sweet sauce to non-Chinese people and with a more authentic taste to Chinese visitors. But we never has such an experience with Jin Fong. Has anyone had any similar experience with over-sweetend food at this UWS place?

The worst service Iโve ever had the misfortune of experiencing. The food is bland the staff are the rudest people who bully you into the amount of tips you can leave. In the UK it is custom to reward good service and food - if it is bad you donโt. Once the staff had finished throwing the food on our table and we left most of it - they brought the bill which had an option to tip we wrote 5 dollars even though she didnโt deserve a cent. 3 of them came over called me cheap, asked why the service was so bad and one of them gave me the dirtiest look. She said that she is paid a low wage (take that up with the owner). The food is so expensive also. I would of taken the tip off the bill only they wouldnโt return the credit card and we wanted to get out of the intimidating situation. Avoid this restaurant unless you are after an authentic Karenโs diner experience.
Be the first to Replytmosphere: typical Chinese restaurant decor. Service: excellent. Food: very good.
My friend and I came here for Dim Sum on a Monday morning around 11:30 a.m., before we started our walk to the Brooklyn Bridge. Perfect timing was as it is a small place. The restaurant seemed very clean, the cart servers all in uniform and were very nice. Hot tea, hot sauce and water placed down right away. The carts had limited selections and I suppose that is because it was a Monday. We had the Har Gow, Shui Mai, Steamed Char Siu Bao, Fried Spring Rolls and Tripe. All the steamed items were very hot, fried spring rolls could have been hot (just room temperature) but all tasted delicious. Atmosphere: typical Chinese restaurant decor. Service: excellent. Food: very good.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a moment at the dumplings bar!
I went with a cousin for a late lunch. It was busy so we decided to join the kitchem bar. Friendly people, and Tony, the waiter, delivered a very good service. We asked for a variety of dumplings and a glass of sparkling wine. Everything was simply delicious. For sure we are going to be back.

The food is basic ... nothing worth mentioning and 3 or 4 waiters gang up on you and force you to pay 15-20 % tip and they do not let you pay 10%. Tips are not to be decided by the waiters , I think .

Feed a demanding family of Professionals, engineers, and a lawyer.
This staff accommodated me and my family for my mother birthday. They were so flexible, friendly, and efficient. We arrived at 1 pm, and had to leave by 5 pm. We only had two tables, but had a family style dinner during the "dim sum" hours. They were able to feed us, and too keep the food coming! We haven't been to their Upper West Side branch, yet. We made reservations for this meal.

Visited the upper west side version of this restaurant. Food was very good but even better was their attention to me and my food allergies. Soy does not sit well with me and they were more than respectful of that dilemma. Explaining foods to avoid and recommending those that would taste just as good with a white wine sauce alternative. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal with no significant after affects. Hard to find that sort of experience these days.

During our visit to New York, we was looking forward to trying a meal in Chinatown. Based on reviews this places seemed OK. When we ordered I asked if the chicken was boneless to which they replied yes so I ordered half of the garlic chicken (which did not look like the photos) and the beef noodles. We my food came out the chicken was on the bone which I thought I could deal with, however the middle of the chicken was filled with blood, this made me physically and luckily I had not had any. I sent this item back and said we are going to leave but will pay for the rest of the meal. The waiters seemed very stand offish when I told them I didnt want this they could not understand why. When we was given the bill the chicken had been voided and then added again I had to ask for it to be removed as they had tried to add it on again without us noticing.
I would not recommend going here.
Great experience
15 minute wait for 3 of us on a sunday around 2pm. Lots of activity in a huge busy room. Lots of choices. Enjoyed entire experience. Best was lots of food for 3 dim sum and the total cost $51.00. Seemed like great value. Food was good

This restaurant was on several lists as the best dim sum in NYCs Chinatown. It is so very clearly not. The food was bland. There was a very limited variety. The waitress was very adamant that we try items that we had already declined. We were not offered water or soy sauce. It was passably clean, but the menus were quite dirty with the pages stuck together.
Be the first to ReplyGOOD TO VERY GOOD FOOD
A very popular place in Chinatown. The evening 7 of us visited, we had reservations but there were a lot of people waiting. Ride up the escalator to an extremely dining area which was actually divided and only half in use. All food items we ordered were good to very good. Service was spotty, sometimes difficult to communicate with servers. Bar service was okay but do not expect great cocktails. Stick with wine and simple alcohol beverages. The evening was enjoyable because of the activity in the dining area. Servers carving Peking Duck tableside, constant service of dumplings and all other entrees. We would return, but there are restaurants that have better food and service.
