Katsuei - Buy Reservations

Got seated right away. I didn't have reservations but was given a table to sit at. Restaurant was pretty empty when I came. We got the omakase but nothing really stood out to me. I felt very rushed by the waiter who I felt was watching me the whole time waiting for me to finish so he could take our plates away. They also gave very rushed and unclear descriptions of each fish. The fish did taste fresh but really was nothing outstanding. I have had much better omakase elsewhere. Probably would not come back but was glad I got to try it.

Came here with family and friends on our NY trip for our first omakase experience. The atmosphere was pleasant but the seating was a bit tight. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating.We started with the kinoko, gyoza and shrimp tempura appetizers. The mushroom-soy appetizer was the standout of the group. Very tasty and left me wanting more. The gyoza was similar to others I've tried. The shrimp tempura was perfectly made with a nice light batter.But in the end we were here for the sushi omakase. This came in 4 rounds with 3 pieces the first 3 rounds and and a hand roll to finish it off. The wasabi in the yellow fin tuna roll was a bit strong for me but the other pieces were delicate and tasted great. My standout favorites were the yellowtail, fatty tuna, trout and mackerel. I was very surprised by the Spanish mackerel since I normally find mackerel too fishy but this was really good as well. My least favorite was the uni but this was the first time I had it and it's just not my thing. The fatty tuna roll at the end was a great way to finish the meal.The sushi presentation was impressive and the freshness of the fish was notable. For a first-time omakase experience, this place comes highly recommended.

Probably best oysters I've EVER eaten. Staff is kind. Sake selection is great. I would literally marry the oysters. Nice ambiance. Good omakase options. Still thinking about the oysters omg.

There are so many sushi spots in this part of Brooklyn.So, so many to choose from, we landed on this one after reading some recent reviews. During the pandemic, it seems like nobody is getting authentic in front of the sushi chef omakase experiences. Nevertheless, we had a wait after our reservation time slot and were seated shortly after in the back of the restaurant and there were so many dividers. The servers (we had like TWO of them for some reason), were confusing us left and right because they were both taking our orders and clearly English was not their primary language so there was an awkward moment here and there when they were taking our orders. The omakase here was memorable - not TOO memorable because of the environment we were in, felt a little weird. Perhaps it's the PS area that's rampant with high prices but we did not feel like we ate our money's worth. The food here was good regardless, wouldn't come back however.

Came here after researching quality sushi in Park Slope/Crown Heights. We both selected the open omakase. Overall was quite disappointed for the quality at the price point. Here are some notes from the experience:o toro - meh quality, unnecessary sauce. Our pieces were cut to completely different sizeskamasu (trout) and monkfish - Both of these pieces were blow torched and let to sit before arriving to us. The result was lukewarm and congealed fatking salmon with seaweed - salmon was creamy and paired nice with the toasted seaweed, probably the highlightbaby snapper - good quality, ruined by a dollop of lemon sauce on top that overpowered the subtle taste of the fish. Again our pieces were cut to different sizesstriped jack - quality was good, too much ponzo and green onionHokaido uni - no way this couldn't be goodchu toro - again, why slather such a quality piece of fish in sauceW one hot sake, tea, one beer, edamame, and gyoza, it came out to $370 with tip. The open style omakase was $110 for 12 or 13 pieces and the standard omakase was 9 pieces + a hand roll and almost half the price. Sure we got a couple of additional premium pieces, but I can't rationalize this price difference. A per piece omakase is supposed to feel special. Our chef was either cranking out pieces for us seemingly as fast as he could or taking long stretches away to prepare orders for the dining room. I understand this is a busy restaurant serving a full dining room, but at these prices I would have expected better.Getting quality sushi for a decent price in New York is difficult, and I was hoping this would be it. Sadly I was mistaken. Either shell out more for better or a lot less for 20% worse.

First time here, but definitely not my first rodeo on the omakase train. Very value-for-money and I appreciate the chef who served me. I did the sashimi + sushi omakase set and did some add-on's that were curated from the full omakase menu. Total came to $150 for me, which frankly is still considerably affordable compared to many many omakase restaurants in Manhattan or LA. Fish was fresh, there was good variety, the only piece I did not really enjoy was the Californian uni (I am very particular with uni anyway and tend to prefer Hokkaido). Would recommend for individuals looking for an affordable mid-to-high tier omakase option.

I came here for my 1st ever omakase and was so impressed!! The sushi was amazing - so fresh and delicious. They seated us at a regular table so we didn't get the "full" experience as I heard that being able to watch the chefs make your sushi is really cool. We got the Sashimi & Sushi Omakase and it came with quite a good amount. I felt perfectly satisfies at the end - not hungry, but not overstuffed. My friend and I also shared the Tori KaraAge for the appetizer which was good but could've used a little more flavor or sauce. Overall, the omakase was great!

It is usually fully booked but we were luck to get a table on walk-in. Got the regular omakase which was decent for the price. The only complaint is the overuse of sauce and dressing which made it difficult to taste the sushi.

Was looking for some good sushi in Brooklyn, and came across this place with good reviews. I personally don't think the price is up to the quality of their sushi at all, have eaten better sushi for less, will not be eating here again. The reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because their Miso Cod was on point , only thing that was worth it.

After hearing so much about Sushi Katsuei, I finally stopped in. I was in the area and had reason to celebrate so I treated myself to the $55 sushi omakase.It was four rounds - the first three were 9 pieces of sushi, and the final was a hand roll.I'm not going to remember everything I had - but the highlights were the bluefin tuna, uni, Spanish mackarel, and red snapper. All very fresh, carefully crafted, and beautifully presented.They've got both sidewalk seating, and also an atrium-ish section. Definitely lives up to the hype!

Fresh and delicious yet affordable omakase options? Sounds FISHY, but ROLL on up to Sushi Katsuei and you will find it. I usually go for the Sashimi and Sushi Omakase, which comes with chef's choice of 5 kinds sashimi (1-2 pieces of each), 6 kinds sushi, and a tuna based hand roll. I am not one to dine GINGERLY, so I will order sashimi a la carte of anything that was particularly good. The sushi is served on a bed of slightly sweet sushi rice; I appreciate that it is not uber sticky and cloying like other places. The staff also makes great recommendations, and if you give them an idea of what you like, they can SHOYU what to order!
